Life Changing

This book was truly life changing for me. When I find myself sweating the little things in life (i.e bills, pregnancy woes, hot weather)I remember Immaculee holed up in this tiny bathroom just praying and pleading for her life. She painted such a horrific picture I simply cannot forget. The killers were calling her name! What a humbling and amazing story she has to tell I literally could not put this book down..at the same time I was educated about how the Rwandan Holocaust all came to be..I had no idea what these poor people went through, the Hutus and the Tutsis became real to me. Who would have thought something like this still happens but this was just the 90's. In the beginning of her book, I smiled through tears as she described the tight knit Catholic family she was reared in--how strong and wise her daddy was, how much she loved her brothers with everything in her being, and how her mother was there until the end to protect her "babies". I was fortunate a few weeks after reading her book to see Immaculee speak at a local venue in Dallas. She was beautiful in person and her joy could light up an entire room. She was filled with the Holy Spirit and it was obvious how humbled she has been. I just kept thinking this woman has lost her entire extended family and she even had the grace to forgive those who killed her own. Forgiveness is the message I took from the book. Life is too short to carry the burden of not forgiving others who we think have wronged us. Excellent read with a message that will keep you thinking long after you read the book!!

I started reading this book before bed, big mistake on my part. I stayed up entranced by this book and continued reading until I couldn't stay awake. The first thing I did the next morning was pick this book back up and finished it. (Which only took a half hour)

I am absolutely amazed at Immaculee's ability to maintain her connection with God while surrounded by such hate. Immaculee shares her story of how she not only survived the Rwandan Holocaust, but how she forgave the killers of her family. This is an inspiring book which confirms how great humans really can be.

It was difficult for me to put the book down and I finished it quickly even though I had already seen the author interviewed on three different EWTN TV shows. What an inspiration to overcome evil with good! It reminded me of some of the miracle stories of prisoners of war in Vietnam. Her descriptions of the country and the events left me feeling like I had visited the country in person and gave me a much clearer understanding of the situation in Rwanda. Most important of all it is continuing to help me to forgive others (with God's help) in every circumstance.

This book was recommended by my doctor who is an avid reader. I was afraid to read it at first. I thought it might really make me sad because it is about the Rwandan Holocaust. It was totally amazing! The story is true and is one of the most inspiring I have ever encountered. Immaculee's faithfulness and her trust in God during the most painful of experiences gave my spiritual life a giant shot in the arm!
I could not put the book down-read it and grow in grace!

This book is an essential Daily Reference. The chapters are broken down into concise explanations with Action points to improve a particular aspect of your own Success Formula. Each section has a Specific goal to prepare you for Success. Fundamentals, Transformation, Team, Relationships, Money and more. This book does not read like a self-help tome that you have to read all the way through to get anything out of it. Rather, the five page chapters can be reread while you're drinking coffee, waiting in line during an errand, etc, In that way, you can integrate these elements into your daily routine to give greater power to your efforts.

A Comprehensive Success Masterpiece

Review Date: 2008-07-09
This comprehensive book is an encyclopedia of success principles unfolded in a logical sequence that will give anyone willing to put in the effort a blueprint for success. Canfield guides you through the 64 principles with plenty of examples, exercises, and real-life success stories that he is so good at telling.

The formula he uses is an effective teaching method. A success principle is presented, then a story about how someone applied the principle, or an example of an application, and then an instruction for applying the principle by the reader.

Many of the ideas I have read before but Canfield puts them altogether in one volume. He credits much of the material to his mentor, W. Clement Stone, as well as his coaches, including Dan Sullivan. And he quotes many famous successful people throughout the book.

Some of the book's principles that really resonate with me are "Take 100% responsibility for your life", "Reject rejection", "Ask for what you want", "Transcend your limiting beliefs", and "Make a 100% commitment".

I think the material in this book is as valuable for the CEO of a big corporation as it is for a mother with a home-based business. Reading and applying the principles is like taking a course in self-development, success fundamentals, team building, money management, and motivational therapy, all rolled into one. My recommendation is to not only read and study the book, but also keep it on hand as a reference book, especially for the times when you feel stuck or challenged. It will pull you through the down times.

And it wouldn't hurt to use this book as a textbook for high-school seniors. If they read this before embarking on their life journey, it would be a lot easier and more fun.

I'm 48, and about 20 years ago, I first read "I AM GOD" in a book by Shirley MacLaine. It was revolutionary then - and NO ONE talked about it. Now, when Bishop Jordan writes it -I KNOW IT. I AM GOD. YOU ARE GOD. WE ARE GOD. Imagine if the whole world finally came to that realization. Whether your God is black, white, Hindu, Catholic, whatever. That God put you here for a reason - and Bishop Jordan helps you remember that. I HIGHLY recommend this book. Thank you Bishop Jordan. Blessings everyone.

Bishop E. Bernard Jordan's book brings three words immediately to mind: BRILLIANT, POWERFUL, AND INSPIRING. This wonderful book is all three of those things and I should actually add, eye opening and insightful, to that list of adjectives. This book is a MUST READ for anyone wanting to manifest prosperity into his or her life. I can't urge you enough to read this book AND to seek out other books/videos by Bishop E. Bernard Jordan. His teachings are influencing huge corporations and world leaders and after you read this book I'm sure you will understand why. Stop wasting time reading the reviews and get the book. Your return on investment from absorbing the principles in this book will pay for itself many, many times over! In "The Laws of Thinking" Bishop Jordan teaches 20 secrets to manifest prosperity in your life. If you're a Christian the book will renew your spirit and bring you closer to God as well. If you're not a Christian then this book will give you some valuable deeper insights and may open your eyes to some important things that you hadn't considered or experienced before. Really, it doesn't cost much and what you will surely gain from absorbing the principles taught in "The Laws of Thinking" make it an easy choice - GET THE BOOK AND READ IT TWICE!

This is the kind of book that you can't put down. As a matter of fact, I read it twice can plan to read it many more. The authors conveyed the go-giving principle in a most excellent way. I have personally given this book out to several people and will continue to do so. The principles outlined in this book apply to both business and personal living. The whole concept of giving is sound and does reap great rewards. I personally have experiences massive success from using what Bob Burg and John David Mann teaches in this book. Would I recommned it? With no question! As a matter of fact, order serveral copies and practice the Go-Giving principle. If more people practiced the 5-Laws to Stratopheric Success; this would be a different world. The good thing is that YOU can change your world by practicing to be a Go-Giver.

This little book packs a big punch!

After reading The Go-Giver I shared it with ten colleagues for our next business book club meeting - share it with your friends - they will be grateful you did.

The Go-Giver: A Little Story About a Powerful Business Idea came to me through a strong recommendation from a good friend. The title plays off the Go-Getter attitude normally associated with reaching success in business and in one's personal life, but flips the true measure of success from the act of getting to the art of giving.

A thin book of 126 easy-reading pages, I read this powerful parable in one relatively short sitting outside on the deck of my favourite Starbucks on the planet (the chuckwagon-shaped former-Arby's Starby's on Rt. 66 in Albuquerque, New Mexico USA).

As the book explains, the go-getter is often going in the opposite direction of the Go-Giver. Working harder doesn't lead to success. Win-Win is not the solution. Going Fifty-Fifty is not enough. Rather, conscious and full 100% sharing with others leads to the greatest and happiest success. When on the teeter-totter of life, choose the Giving way.

The book is organized into short storied chapters describing the awakening of Joe, the protagonist. Joe viscerally experiences the Trade Secret and the Five Laws of Stratospheric Success through the kind tutelage of a cast of interconnected successful Go-Givers led by the enigmatic sage Pindar.

The Five Laws of Stratospheric Success shared in The Go-Giver are:

The Law of Value: Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.

The Law of Compensation: Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.

The Law of Influence: Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people's interests first.

The Law of Authenticity: The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.

The Law of Receptivity: The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.

You will want to capture the missing depth to each law as told through this fresh and accessible book by adding it to your reading list. Unlike most books, you will be able to finish this book quickly with important value received for your effort.

As Martin Luther King is quoted on the book, "Everybody can be great because anybody can serve." Or, as the book rephrases Dr. King, "Everybody can be successful because anybody can give."

Review Date: 2008-07-24
One of the few motivational books I have ever sat down and read cover to cover, let alone doing it three times. And each time I do, I seem to find new inspiration from it, a new angle I hadn't noticed was there before. Trus me, you can take my word for it. Reading an inspiration book once is a biggie for me since I need to be entertained when I read. Most times you'll find me with a good mystery in my hands or some other type of suspensful drama. That's why I write fiction Beauty Enslaved Yet, I can tell you that each chapter is a gem, well organized in little compartments that are retrieved with ease whenever memory needs them.
I love the seven Universal Laws of Success. I can almost rattle them off by heart. But my favorite chapter is the one that deals with The Three Unseen Assistants to Success. I have finally found someone who thinks as I do, who believes in that special intervention.
I'm not going to say anymore. I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone browsing. But if you're out there looking for the one book that will change your life, THIS IS THE ONE.

I have read a lot of similar books recently - I was in the middle of another one and dropped it to completely read this one. While the information is not totally new, the way the author lays out the information and gives practical advice was helpful. The book is very easy to read, keeps you engaged and does not get involved with a lot of the "woo-woo" that other books like this do - which in turn can deter more skeptical readers from continuing on. I enjoyed reading this and know I will turn to it again for future reference.

I originally bought this book three years ago. I had read the Game of Life by Florence Shinn and I was looking for more info about prosperity. WE have used the laws, specifically the law of vaccuum- giving things away freely, writing things down, visualization, affirmations and the most powerful law- tithing. I can't begin to tell you how using these laws have changed my family's life. It is like clockwork, everytime we use these laws wonderful things come about in unexpected ways. Actually, I have a list of things I wanted in life from three years ago when I bought the book and even though they seemed a bit unnattainable at the time, I can say that as of today, every single thing on that list (and more) have miraculuously came true. Now I stock up on copies of this and the Game of Life and give them to people who need and want to learn the laws.

This is the first Catherine Ponder book I have read and, while I normally read a lot of motivational material, I likely will not read any more Catherine Ponder anytime soon. Her message is certainly worthwhile: making affirmations in your own life will help you to draw upon God's assistance to achieve your goals. She is also a minister, which explains why she draws her approach from a sprirtual angle. While this effort is certainly worthwhile for a reader, her supporting examples are not specific enough to satisfy my need for "proof". In Ponder's book, her examples are full of "a woman I know...", "a businessman...", and other such vague statements. Contrast that with Napolean Hill's book "Think and Grow Rich." Hill's examples are specific and precise: "Thomas Edison tried over 10,000 times...". Napolean Hill and Catherine Ponder both have a similar message in their books. But while Catherine Ponder's message is meaningful and worthwhile, her examples are not down to earth enough to suit my tastes.

If I had known Catherine Ponder was a minister, I would never have bought (and returned) this book. If you believe prayer and positive thinking will bring you prosperity, I suppose this book will be fine for you. If you aren't a devout Christian, however, you might find this book hard to deal with.

The only book I bring everywhere

I was first given 'The Game of Life' when I was 15. I had trouble with it at first; although I understood the principles were sound, the use of 'God Language' and the Bible references put me off. At the time I was in the process of breaking all ties to the church I'd been brought up in.

I came back to Florence Scovel Shinn when I was about 19, when someone gave me this, the four books in one. The word 'god' still grated on me at that point, so I was advised by a friend that whenever Shinn used it in the book, I mentally insert the word 'Universe' in its place. It worked, and this book became the one book I bring absolutely everywhere. For me, it works much the same way that the Bible did for my grandmother: if I have a question, I think of the question, open the book, and invariably that page gives me the answer, or a strong clue to the answer.

Eight years on, and I'm past my issues with the semantics, knowing that god / the universe / love / divine intelligence are all one. And I still refer to this book at least a few times a week. It's lovingly written, always with light humour interspersed with sound and profound wisdom, and I recommend it to anyone - whether or not you believe in 'God' :)

I was very hesitant in buying another book. For some reason, I thought this was just another one of those "self-help" books and who needs more of those? Well, this book is quite different. It's a necessity...it's life changing. Once you begin to read it, you can't put it down. I am not a big reader, but I read it in 1 week. I immediately started applying the things that I learned and I am telling you, this stuff works. I would challenge anyone who is going through a difficult time and who needs a wake-up call in life to read Florence Scovel. One you begin to change your words and your thoughts, your entire world begins to change...and IMMEDIATELY!

If there is ever one word to describe this book, its powerful. What a concept...that suffering is never meaningless, but a vehicle of purposeful intent and that we, as eternal souls, planned to use certain challenges to foster growth not only for our own souls but for the sake of our soul group and the universe at large. Putting it into a context like this, suffering has a whole different meaning.

According to the book, those around us also plan our lives intertwined with ours and all decisions are made out of love, no exception. I now think about my own challenges and those who have played a key role in my own personal growth and look upon them with gratitude and not judgment, including the "villains" in my story, because they fostered the most growth out of me. I am only now beginning to see the perfection of life. Aside from clarity, this book will bring healing and infinite comfort to those going through extreme suffering in their lives by learning there are no victims in this world.

Part of me picked up this book to find comfort for my own inner wounds. I cried when I read the words "Only the courageous plan fear" for I knew, that was what I intended to heal and have been working on it for years, having them dissipate one by one.

It has been a long time since I closed a book and felt warm, comforted and knowledgeable. The author takes you by the hand and guides you through this information with compassion, grace and great wisdom. I just cannot fully express how wonderful this book is. It is absolute perfection and if I could, I'd give it more stars. If there is ever a book I'd recommend, it would be this one!

So interesting!

I absolutely love this book! I knew that we had pre-planned our lives before reading it, but it explains it so well with people's stories to show you examples. I really hope I can get my friend to read it as I think it will help her to understand the reasons for some of her challenges in her childhood and now. EXCELLENT BOOK!

Everything always makes sense when you can see the big picture. This book provides a glimpse into why events we perceive as "bad" happen, through a varied collection of individual cases.

Our lives in this "reality" are just learning experiences, to expand our awareness of ourselves, we agreed to before we arrived on the planet.

I first read Florence's book "The Game of Life" many years ago and fell in love with her timeless philosophy and outlook on life. Since that time I have purchased numerous copies as gifts for friends & family.

An Informal Didatic

I was first informed of the works of 19th Century writer/teacher,Florence Scovel Shinn in 2007 and had planned to read The Florence Scovel Shinn Reader immediately. However, overwhelmed with the incidentals of writing, I again put off study time needed to devote to another metaphysical text. What a mistake! What a rewarding book!!

As an author, I am aware of the arduous task of demystifying New Age Thought. What an artist. Ms.Shinn is indeed a skilled and creative instructor of universal laws. This book is a valuable guide for raising the consciousness of all who wish to learn how to change their life and affairs in a positive life affirming manner.

Ms. Shinn makes it easy for the novice to move toward empowerment by recounting numerous life altering manifestations experienced by both her clients and students. The Shinn reader is an excellent transformational key. Doors are truly unlocked and many spiritual truths are revealed. The Florence Scovel Shinn Reader is a informal treasury of metaphysical teachings that has stood the test of time. As a student and teacher of positive thought, I highly recommend The Florence Scovel Shinn Reader.

I first read this book (The Game of Life and How To Play It) over 20 years ago. I have purchased more than a dozen copies of the book and given them to friends. I have returned to the simplicity of her writings on so many occasions. Mrs Shinn was a metaphysical teacher in the 20's. Her metaphysical Christian approach (my words, not hers) opened my eyes to greater metaphors within the Bible; teachings that I never learned in Sunday School.

Don't let her simple approach to spiritual living or her 'easy to read' writing style fool you. She speaks to 'truths' that are at work in our lives, and 'how to' align yourself with those principles.

In all, she wrote 4 books on spiritual living. The Florence Scovel Shinn Reader contains all her works in one place for easy reference.

This is an easily read book which you will enjoy over and over again.
