Small town gal - Big time book!Review Date: 2000-04-11
By her own admission, what sets this book apart is its simplicity. Genealogy Basics Online does gently guide the reader through the Internet and provides all the tools necessary for helping anyone succeed in finding family history information on the Internet.
I have been doing family history for twenty years and have used the Internet for the better part of the last ten years, yet I found something I could use the very first time I opened the book.
Cherri suggests "Keep this book by your computerand and refer to it often." How true. What she could have said was, "This may be the only "how-to" book you will ever need while working on Genealogy Online.
A wonderful book.

some good ideasReview Date: 2008-06-14
The gift ideas for the various anniversaries are good (and easier for me to find than sifting through a bunch of internet sites trying to sell items when you perform an 'anniversary gift' search). I also like the book as a quick reference for 'what anniversary gift options go with what anniversary'...wood, iron, rock, paper, scissors, etc). The book does a nice job of describing the 'traditional' vs. 'modern' gift selections with some nice suggestions. I reference the book a few times a year for various reasons...overall pleased with the purchase.

An Informative and Delightful ReadReview Date: 2000-10-22
I was immediately taken with the effortless and engaging writing and found the book a joy to read. A particularly interesting aspect of the book was the explanations of anniversary traditions and etiquette. Ms. Kring offers the reader numerous creative and charming ideas for planning clever theme parties that are bound to be the backdrop to cherished memories.
Thanks to Happy Anniversary! I was able to give my grandparents a token of my love without cluttering their closets. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a thoughtful, imaginative, and memorable way to celebrate any momentous occasion.

A Priceless PearlReview Date: 2003-04-15
A masterpieceReview Date: 2006-11-14
You cannot help but catch the spark by reading these pages. I recommend it to all whose hearts long for the indescribable bliss of union with the One Being.
The one qualm I have with the book is the first sentence of the dust jacket's inner flap, which reads: "Sufism is the mystical dimension of Islam, and represents both a vision and a spiritual path that exists on the periphery of the main religion, yet at the same time embodies its deepest truth." This statement is strikingly at odds with the teachings of Hazrat Inayat Khan, Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan's father and teacher, who described Sufism as the essence of all religions, yet belonging to none. Khan argues Sufism is to Islam as green is to Ireland -- the color has become associated with the country, yet it would be silly to suggest that there was no green before there was Ireland.
What masterpiece could exist that does not contain one exquisite flaw?

An excellent book for all lovers of the Light! & a primer for seekers of Truth
Challenging, Profound and ElectricReview Date: 2006-06-22
The reader is placed in a timeless setting (ie. the imaginal plane) with the great Islamic and Sufi figures throughout time.
While sitting in the presence of these great sages, timeless, practical truths, strange utterances and sweet devotion all strike the reader's heart as if a bell is sounded.
I suggest reading this book as a form of contemplation. Any student of spirituality will find benefit in its pages.

You need thisReview Date: 2008-03-27
My advice is to start here if you are serious about getting into grad school. Or, take a look at the APA's book, "Getting In", which is on the same topic. I don't care for the APA books as much as the insider's guide, but your mileage may vary. Also, you can probably get a copy of the 2006/07 guide for almost nothing. The earlier version contains good general information and *almost* up to date info.
And if you want your life as a grad student to go well at at the Big U, then make sure to consult the following classics: (Do this even if you aren't considering an academic career)
David Sternberg's "How to Complete and Survive a Dissertation."
Robert Sternberg's "Psychology 101 1/2: The Unspoken Rules for Success in Academia"
Another must read, for future academics:
Darley et al's "The Compleat Academic: A Career Guide"
And for future clinical and counseling psychologists:
Yalom's "The Gift of Therapy: An Open Letter to a New Generation of Therapists and Their Patients"
Get these other books. Do it. This stuff is worth its weight in gold.
An Insider's guideReview Date: 2008-02-25
If you're choosing between Insider's Guide and Graduate Study in Psychology, the Graduate Study in Psychology is the better book. Both books are handy and having both at hand is a plus.
