The fifth grade radio show is a disaster.Review Date: 1999-01-26
No one really listens to his show any way.Review Date: 1999-01-26
There once was a teacher called Ms.Gucci then she was gone because she hit the jackpot. She won the lottery!! She left,of course then there was a new teacher called Ms.Panagopoulos. She gave really hard and WEIRD homework. She said that she wanted the questions to be answered creative. Well she sure got creative from Benjy. Benjy got creative by creating a game quiz show on his radio show and uses his homework questions as the questions on the game show. Then all he and his friends have to do is keep his new teacher from finding out. Then Benjy has this Mascot of the Week to go on his show and this week it's a parrot called Winston Churchill he and won't talk so Winston ends up on the show for 4 weeks until it's not a very good line to repeat...!
This story takes place in Cenntenial Park School with a pet shop accross the street.
I liked Go Jump in the Pool the best because almost every part in it was funny. It was funny when "The fish" won a jack-in-the-box and when he opened it and it sprang up and punched him in the face! I thought that was the funniest part in the book! I give this book 5 stars too.
I recommend Gordon Korman books to almost everyone I know!!!!! Britney Sears

A refreshing new voiceReview Date: 2008-01-31
Jarpe has a nice way with character, especially in his dialogue/stream of consciousness riffs; you hear what the character actually says out loud AND what he would say if his internal censor wasn't in control, an interesting technique in a book that is ultimately about trying to keep information -- and people -- free. Ultimately even the censored thoughts get expression -- everybody's censored thoughts, even those of the straw-man villain's, to entertaining and satisfying effect.
A lot of people, and I'm thinking of some dear personal friends here, who have complained that, e.g. _Neuromancer_ was too inaccessible or Neal Stephenson's _Snow Crash_ too complex might find in _Radio Freefall_ a nice primer to cyberpunk, written as it is in more of a man-in-the-street voice. It's not gorgeous prose, but it's readable, and unlike Gibson's smooth, detached glide, his poetry, Jarpe's is truly punk, simple, to-the-point, occasionally ungrammatical but doesn't get in the way of the story. Does he have a 'zine background, maybe?
As I finished the book I immediately wanted to pick up a sequel. Will there be an AquaLuna? Here's one reader who hopes so.
Great first novelReview Date: 2007-11-26
Jarpe's engaging style makes this a fun and easy read, yet his social commentary is thought-provoking. He paints a world that is at once beautifully futuristic and laden with all-too-human foibles. Data sprays and artificial intelligence aside, humans are still emotional beings, naked apes acting on base instinct. This helps "Radio Freefall" accomplish that other goal of good science fiction: that of being believable.
Clever. Witty. Imaginative. Relevant. Way cool.Review Date: 2007-11-20
Artificial Intelligence and Rock 'n RollReview Date: 2007-10-29
You will like it because I said so and, if not, have only yourself to blame!Review Date: 2007-09-19
And there you have the gist and non-spoilerage of Matthew Jarpe's debut novel, Radio Freefall, providing readers a well-paced, witty, and quirky look into a near future filled with well-rounded AI characters, a megalomaniac, computer geeks, hard-partying rock-and-rollers, one-worlders (see aforementioned megalomaniac), Nationalists, and . . . one enigmatic protagonist calling himself Aqualung who's hell on a guitar, laid back to beat the band, and an all around slippery dude to catch if you're antagonizing him.
You will know people like Aqualung. The socially awkward (but for GOOD reasons) Quin Taber is a deserving underdog while the evil overlord, Walter Cheeseman, deserves something not far removed from a few swift kicks to the groin.
Revel in the Snake Vendors, an upstart band of kids who find an apt mentor in ol' boy Aqualung. It's here that I'll pause and recommend your tripping over to Mr. Jarpe's site, http://mattjarpe.com/. You might also want to navigate to Meet the Snake Vendors (http://www.snakevendors.com/snakevendors.php) and check out "Mojo Motorbike," a fun video and crunchy, catchy song straight from the novel.
And look out for the uber-virus Digital Carnivore because everyone else in the novel is.
Overall, with Matthew Jarpe's firm control of Radio Freefall's plot and keen eye for building memorable characters and a sharper ear for dialogue, it's hard to set this freshman effort aside. It might not keep you up at night, but it will bring you back frequently until you`re done. It would be fun to trip back through the universe Jarpe's created in Radio Freefall, and you can tell he had stellar time writing it because it oozes, simply, FUN READ.

Must have reference for building a Titanic ModelReview Date: 2006-03-19
Over the years, I have made a couple of attempts at capturing her in miniature, but was not satisfied the results. One core problem has been the lack of reference material. The discovery of the ship and the subsequent James Cameron film has sparked massive amounts of interest in her, and a result has been the publication of many books, plans and websites on all things Titanic. The amount of research that has been done in the last decade has finally allowed highly accurate models of this ship to be built. This book documents a very impressive feat of the model shipwrights craft, a 1/48 scale Titanic that is some 18 feet in length.
Starting with a brief summary of the prototypes story, and quickly progressing into research and building, Peter Davies-Garner has written a no nonsense documentation of the model. The author touches on every area of the build, but some more thoroughly than others - a necessary compromise to control the size no doubt, but I was left wanting more. The many photographs are really the core of the book, and the model is covered thoroughly in black and white with a central color section. If you see a high resolution scan of the cover, this is a classic case of not judging the book by it's cover - for some reason, it is a poorly reproduced digital image, whereas the photographs in the body are higher quality.
This is an important work to scholars of the Titanic. What I particularly appreciated was the author's clear differentiation of which areas are factual and which are educated conjectures. As he states, there will never be a totally accurate model of the ship built, but his must surely be the closest to that goal yet made. I highly recommend the book, and, if you are visiting Orlando, seeing the model in person.

The All-Time BEST Sherlock Holmes Audiobook Stories...Review Date: 2008-03-07
So I was more than thrilled to see this, the Baker Street Dozen stories on CD, and separated into chapters, at that! There are websites that have copies of these stories, but they are in terrible quality, or chopped up. For stories that were first recorded in 1953, they sound like they were recorded yesterday. I have a bunch of old radio broadcasts on CD, ranging from THE SHADOW to MURDER AT MIDNIGHT and THE GREEN HORNET, and their quality ranges from horrible to fair. But THIS, my friends, is British radio at its finest; fully dramatized, with music and sound effects that fit right into the story, characters that come to life, and stories that will keep you listening over and over again.
It seems everyone in America can't look past the Sherlock Holmes ideal with Basil Rathbone and his rendition of the great detective... nobody really bothers to look or listen to other actors' versions of the character. Sir John Gielgud is, in my opinion, the greatest portrayer of Holmes. EVER.
To wrap this up... if you're a Sherlock Holmes fan, GET THIS. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. The acting is superb, the quality is astounding for something that's over 50 years old, and the replay value is higher than high, because these stories are timeless. The game is afoot, and you should come along...

The addition of Orson Welles as Prof Moriarty in the story The Final problem is the icing on the cake. That penetrating voice is chilling and truly Holmes/Geilgud meets his match in Welles/Moriarty. Any Sherlock Holmes fan should get these historic recordings - you really don't know what you are missing.

Tales Of Mystery And SuspenseReview Date: 2004-02-10
Going on a trip? Put them in the tape player, cruise on down the road, and you'll be surprised how the time flies!
A Great Collection From Radio's Famous Suspense SeriesReview Date: 2002-07-25
1. A Little Piece of Rope: This is one of the shows where Lucille Ball proves her talent in drama. She plays a young criminal whose latest victim will turn out to be one she, herself, will be terrified of.
2. Too Perfect Alibi: Danny Kaye stars in this story about a murder and an alibi that turned out to be too 'perfect'.
3. The Earth is Made of Glass: Joseph Cotton stars in this episode... Expect a twist ending.
4. The Name of the Beast: Vincent Price stars as a painter who is determined to do anything to finish his painting 'The Name of the Beast'. Sadly, his model Beast turns out to be quite murderous.
5. Deep into Darkness: This is a story, starring Douglas Fairbanks Jr., about a man who finds out that he has suffered in the past for something he never actually did. And he wants revenge.
6. Death Has a Shadow: Bob Hope stars in this episode as a business-man who is frightened of a blackmailer.
7. Ghost Hunt: An immensely creepy story concerning a radio host who decides to spend the night in a haunted house, recording his every move. Listen to this one in the dark.
8. Murder Through the Looking Glass: Gregory Peck stars in this tale concerning split personalities.
Over all, the collection is excellent, you can skip the commercials if you want, and I'd definitely recommend this to anyone interested in old-time radio.
Tales For a Dark and Stormy NightReview Date: 2008-06-02
While radio will never rule the airwaves as it once did, these shows are an opportunity to revisit this fabulous medium once again and discover its greatness. Big stars appeared often and eagerly on "Suspense" because of its quality. It was nice exposure between films and a chance to stretch their acting skills. The scripts and productions were all topflight. "Suspense" was one show which never disappointed the listener.
Included in this collection is "Ghost Hunt" with Ralph Edwards. It ranks right up there with "The House on Cyprus Canyon," "The Hitchhiker," and "A Thing of Beauty" as one of the finest episodes of "Suspense" ever aired. A man spends the night in a lonely house on a ghost hunt, recording what happens. It is tense and exciting and a little eerie. Though there are other excellent shows included here, it alone makes this one worth owning.
"A Little Piece of Rope" stars Lucille Ball. "Too Perfect Alibi" stars Danny Kaye. "The Name of the Beast" stars Vincent Price. "Deep into Darkness" stars Douglas Fairbanks Jr. "Death Has a Shadow" stars Bob Hope. "Ghost Hunt" stars Ralph Edwards. "Murder Through the Looking Glass" features Gregory Peck.
The catch-phrase, "Roma wine presents" or "Autolite presents" voiced over those famous and ominous chimes are recognizable to anyone who loves old radio. Radio ruled the airwaves for decades and "Suspense" was one of the finest and most popular shows ever produced. These eight gems will have you using your imagination as no television show or feature film can.
Radio was a theatre of the imagination, stretching the mind into shadowed corners and crimes with a twist. An excellent introduction to old radio, and especially "Suspense." Those curious about this now nearly forgotten medium which once ruled the nation can discover why with this sterling collection of stories guaranteed to keep you in, Suspense!
An Awesome Collection!Review Date: 2004-04-01
