You will enjoy this book as much as candy. Benjy and his great friends from school are radio broadcasters. Benjy's class are going to have an exremly hard history test. They get the questions from the teacher's desk and ask them on the radio to prepare for the test. They give weird prizes like turtle food. So read this book because it truly is as good as candy.

Benjy Driver is the star on a radio station called 'Kidsveiw'. When he and his friends get a new teacher who gives out HARD homework, Benjy decides to ask the homework questions on the radio and get the answers. He needs to be careful that his teacher doesn`t listen and find out, though. So Benjy and his faithful friends try to keep their teacher from listening to her radio. Lots more happens. I really liked this book, because it is VERY funny. If you are looking for a funny book, this is a great recomendation. It is one of my favourite books, and if you read it, it will most likely be your favourite, too.

The fifth grade radio show is a disaster.

The author of my book,Radio Fifth Grade, is Gordon Korman. His books do not tell the meaning of life. The main character of this book is Benjy Driver. He is the star of the fifth grade radio show called Kidsview. He is funny and very impatient. He has short, curly, dark brown hair. The fifth grade radio show's new Mascot of The Week,Winston Churchill the parrot, won't talk. Benjy's teacher,Mrs. Gucci, wins $8,300,000.00 and moves to Honolulu leaving Benjy and his class with a new teacher called Ms. Panagapoulos.Last but not least, the school bully, Brad Jaworski, keeps writing stories about two kittens named Fuzzy and Puffy and thinks everybody likes his stories when he reads them on the radio. This story takes place at Centennial Park School. I thought this book was funny because Winston Churchill kept saying wierd things. I really liked this book and would like to read more books by Gordon Korman. I have some questions about Gordon Korman and his books: I wonder how much books Gordon Korman has made? I wonder if Gordon Korman is going to make more books? What does Gordon Korman do in his spare time? Will Gordon Korman ever make books about himself? When is Gordon Korman's birthday? Gordon Korman has made books about two boys named Bruno and Boots, but I wonder if he will ever make a new book about them with a new character? Will Gordon Korman ever make a book about a retold fairy tale? How much copies of each book does Gordon Korman make? Does Gordon Korman make books about his friends or enemies? Does he have a book all about an animal or will he make one? Has Gordon Korman ever made a book all in another language? That is the end of my book report on Radio Fifth Grade. I hope you liked it and I recommend this book,Radio Fifth Grade.

No one really listens to his show any way.

The author of my book Radio Fifth Grade is Gordon Korman. Gordon Korman lives in New York and likes to explore Canada. Gordon writes books full time. In this book,Radio Fifth Grade the main character is Benjamin Driver. Benjamin's nickname is Benjy. Benjy has brown hair and brown eyes and is the co-producer. Benjy owns a Radio program on station 95.5fm. No one at school listens to Benjy's program except the pit and people at home.

There once was a teacher called Ms.Gucci then she was gone because she hit the jackpot. She won the lottery!! She left,of course then there was a new teacher called Ms.Panagopoulos. She gave really hard and WEIRD homework. She said that she wanted the questions to be answered creative. Well she sure got creative from Benjy. Benjy got creative by creating a game quiz show on his radio show and uses his homework questions as the questions on the game show. Then all he and his friends have to do is keep his new teacher from finding out. Then Benjy has this Mascot of the Week to go on his show and this week it's a parrot called Winston Churchill he and won't talk so Winston ends up on the show for 4 weeks until it's not a very good line to repeat...!

This story takes place in Cenntenial Park School with a pet shop accross the street.

I liked Go Jump in the Pool the best because almost every part in it was funny. It was funny when "The fish" won a jack-in-the-box and when he opened it and it sprang up and punched him in the face! I thought that was the funniest part in the book! I give this book 5 stars too.

I recommend Gordon Korman books to almost everyone I know!!!!! Britney Sears

I met Gordon Korman when I was 11 years old in Germany. He had achieved everything I wanted: to write a book by 7th grade. And Radio Fifth Grade was my favorite. These kids were funny, smart, had initiative, and always figuring out how to get the things that they needed in an adult world that wasn't too sensitive. Today I actually work in radio, and I still remember this book, what it was like to be inspired at a young age, and remembering all of the oppressive details of childhood. A witty, insightful, and hilarious portrayal of kids.

A refreshing new voice

Comparisons to sprawl-era William Gibson really don't prepare the casual book browser for what's in store here. Jarpe took some of WG's more famous tropes -- rogue AIs, shadowrunning attacks against nearly-omnipotent corporations, the new data-driven world we've created as an overlay to the physical world, corporate-owned space stations -- and did them his own way. And that way is pretty darned good, and nothing at all like Gibson (and I say this as a great fan of Gibson's).

Jarpe has a nice way with character, especially in his dialogue/stream of consciousness riffs; you hear what the character actually says out loud AND what he would say if his internal censor wasn't in control, an interesting technique in a book that is ultimately about trying to keep information -- and people -- free. Ultimately even the censored thoughts get expression -- everybody's censored thoughts, even those of the straw-man villain's, to entertaining and satisfying effect.

A lot of people, and I'm thinking of some dear personal friends here, who have complained that, e.g. _Neuromancer_ was too inaccessible or Neal Stephenson's _Snow Crash_ too complex might find in _Radio Freefall_ a nice primer to cyberpunk, written as it is in more of a man-in-the-street voice. It's not gorgeous prose, but it's readable, and unlike Gibson's smooth, detached glide, his poetry, Jarpe's is truly punk, simple, to-the-point, occasionally ungrammatical but doesn't get in the way of the story. Does he have a 'zine background, maybe?

As I finished the book I immediately wanted to pick up a sequel. Will there be an AquaLuna? Here's one reader who hopes so.

At its best, science fiction uses exotic settings and technical marvels to give insight into the compelling issues of the current time. In "Radio Freefall", Matt Jarpe uses the sensitive issues of our day--control of access to information, the immense power of global corporations, and the value of diversity to take the reader on a wild ride through the near future.

Jarpe's engaging style makes this a fun and easy read, yet his social commentary is thought-provoking. He paints a world that is at once beautifully futuristic and laden with all-too-human foibles. Data sprays and artificial intelligence aside, humans are still emotional beings, naked apes acting on base instinct. This helps "Radio Freefall" accomplish that other goal of good science fiction: that of being believable.

Clever. Witty. Imaginative. Relevant. Way cool.

I like technoScFi. This first work by Matthew Jarpe extrapolates twenty five years into the future using the WWW, evolutionary AI technobabble, space colonies, RockNRoll, mind manipulation, Cheneyesque evil guys, Gatesian smart guys and all with a bit of Carl Haaisen style humor. This book is one happy discovery for me, a fun read. Chuckles, thoughtful situations and very memorable and zany characters. The time line is a bit strained and the ending is maybe caramelish but the plot is plausible and the interleaving of the geek stuff and music threads is brilliant. Particularly cute is flashback references to the present music scene. I would have liked some Orwellian political zingers too. They would fit right in.

How can you stay on the run and hidden in a world where no one's anonymous anymore and you like rocking out in front of an audience to boot? Oh, and some folks don't like you. Really, they want stuff in your head out of it. You like your head and all the stuff in it. And it's all because you . . .

And there you have the gist and non-spoilerage of Matthew Jarpe's debut novel, Radio Freefall, providing readers a well-paced, witty, and quirky look into a near future filled with well-rounded AI characters, a megalomaniac, computer geeks, hard-partying rock-and-rollers, one-worlders (see aforementioned megalomaniac), Nationalists, and . . . one enigmatic protagonist calling himself Aqualung who's hell on a guitar, laid back to beat the band, and an all around slippery dude to catch if you're antagonizing him.

You will know people like Aqualung. The socially awkward (but for GOOD reasons) Quin Taber is a deserving underdog while the evil overlord, Walter Cheeseman, deserves something not far removed from a few swift kicks to the groin.

Revel in the Snake Vendors, an upstart band of kids who find an apt mentor in ol' boy Aqualung. It's here that I'll pause and recommend your tripping over to Mr. Jarpe's site, http://mattjarpe.com/. You might also want to navigate to Meet the Snake Vendors (http://www.snakevendors.com/snakevendors.php) and check out "Mojo Motorbike," a fun video and crunchy, catchy song straight from the novel.

And look out for the uber-virus Digital Carnivore because everyone else in the novel is.

Overall, with Matthew Jarpe's firm control of Radio Freefall's plot and keen eye for building memorable characters and a sharper ear for dialogue, it's hard to set this freshman effort aside. It might not keep you up at night, but it will bring you back frequently until you`re done. It would be fun to trip back through the universe Jarpe's created in Radio Freefall, and you can tell he had stellar time writing it because it oozes, simply, FUN READ.

I read the Spanish version of this book, which I am still trying to find. It is very moving and interesting as it gives the reader who lacks knowledge of the atrocities that occurred in El Salvador a vivid and real insight from the individuals that experienced it. As an educator in a very diverse area in California, I would defenitely recommend this book to any of my students interested in learning about the history of their people. It is a very simple yet moving book which will make you think about how people struggle to survive yet are determined to do so against all odds.

This book's story is a little example of how cruel power could be against a people. El salvador gave the world some decades ago one of the most gallards fights in order to preserve freedom, justice, wealth, independence, work. Power, land and money inside a fisk and in the other hand a defendless people, armed only with reason. The resulting damages of salvadoran pro- USA death squads are horrendous: massacres, sexual violations, catholic nuns, union leaders, peasants, teachers, children killed. And the School of the Americas is still open :)... And still current El Salvador government refuses to cooperate with justice.... ... A great homage for those killed.

"Rebel Radio" is inspiring, moving, and impossible to put down, and not just for radio fans. It's the story of how a small band of young rebels put a guerrilla station (like a pirate station) on the air and kept it there for years against all odds, told in their own voices. We see them develop as journalists, as artists, and as revolutionaries. The Salvadorans are resourceful, creative, and audacious beyond belief. They tear down the station at a moment's notice and carry it off on their backs, staying just ahead of the government forces who want to destroy them, then taunting the generals on the air, like Wily Coyote and the Roadrunner. You'll fall in love with these people; they're fearsomely brave and committed, yet they have their funny and deeply human moments too. You'll want to run off to El Salvador immediately to see the museum that honors Radio Venceremos.

I bought this book in El Salvador in one of the few visits that I have made to my natal land, the strugles that all the fighters have to go thru to keep the radio waves opened for all the listeners was horrendous. The book tell the story of the freedom fighters moving all the equipment from site to site and hiding it from the attacks of the salvadorean army. The heroism displayed or let's say described in the book is to be admired. I am not a former guerrilla member nor do I like comunism in any form, but being salvadorean myself I could not hold some tears after reading some of the chapters in the book.

Cripps has a solid reputation for his books on power amplifier design, but I wondered whether a revision would contain sufficient new material to be worthwhile. I was pleasantly surprized by the expanded material, and the new insight into high efficiency designs in particular. Cripps has a special talent for tackling difficult topics and providing a thorough but understandable treatment. Most of all, he seems to always tie the analysis to a unique physical insight.

I highly recommend this book.

An excellent source of information. Mr Cripps very articulatly reviews at all classes of RF power amplification, and explains theoretical design principles and suggests improvements. His 'Load-pull' technique method is already widely used in design of PA's and serves as a good design aid. Although I would have liked him to go deeper into 'high-efficiciency PA techniques, spending more time on 'Chierix, Khan and Doherty methods. His book is the best reference on PA's I have seen in the last decade, I could not put it down. I look forward to his next book

I gained a lot of insights from this book. It methodically treats RF power amplifier in a way that develops understanding of the fundamentals. I particulary like the explanation on the Load-Pull Countours/Theory (Ch 2), Matching Network Design for Reduced Conduction Angle PAs(Ch 3), and the Two-Tone Envelope Analysis (Ch 7). In short, thanks to this book, the way I look at PAs has been transformed: from nebulous beliefs and assumptions to insights and better understanding. I believe this book is a must have for Engineers working on RF PAs. Sincerely, ATS

This RMS Titanic Book,(RMS Titanic -A Model Makers' Manual)is, without a doubt, one of the best pieces of detailed information I have ever read regarding a Ship Model. I am going to build what I hope will be the most accurate ship model I have ever produced, using the information in the publication

This great informative book will allow me to do just that. I heartily recommend it to all ship Modelers everywhere who might wish to reproduce the RMS Titanic as a model.

My Wife, who is the account holder, purchased the book for me.

Having watched via the internet this model come together over the past couple of years, I often thought how great it would be to have a literary offering detailing a step by step illustrated procedure on how to build the definitive Titanic model. Over the years, there have been offerings to help the modeler build a comprehensive rendering of Titanic, from this writer included. Peter goes above and beyond and delivers in a way like nothing put out there before. The plans and photos will help the more visually-oriented person, while the text-packed pages will greatly benefit the model-maker who works better with worded descriptions.

The curious and the die-hard rivet counter, I believe, will find this book a valued addition to their collection.

I purchased this book after searching and searching the internet for a detailed model guide for building my own. The book is based on the building of most complete and acturate Titanic model built todate. The book breaks the model down to perfect detail. Even though the one that I am building is quite a bit smaller. The color photos are great, wish there was more. Each chapter takes you up one desk at a time, leaving no detail or explanation left out. He even includes little known history of the ship. If you are building, getting ready to build, or just want to learn, in detail more about the famous Titanic. Then check this book out well worth it.

Review Date: 2006-03-19
Like many ship modelers, I have always had a fascination with the three Olympic class liners, and particularly that most famous of the three, the Titanic. Of course, many are drawn to her story and tragically short life, but I have always been fascinated by her appearance - in my estimation, she was one of the most beautiful ocean liners ever built.

Over the years, I have made a couple of attempts at capturing her in miniature, but was not satisfied the results. One core problem has been the lack of reference material. The discovery of the ship and the subsequent James Cameron film has sparked massive amounts of interest in her, and a result has been the publication of many books, plans and websites on all things Titanic. The amount of research that has been done in the last decade has finally allowed highly accurate models of this ship to be built. This book documents a very impressive feat of the model shipwrights craft, a 1/48 scale Titanic that is some 18 feet in length.

Starting with a brief summary of the prototypes story, and quickly progressing into research and building, Peter Davies-Garner has written a no nonsense documentation of the model. The author touches on every area of the build, but some more thoroughly than others - a necessary compromise to control the size no doubt, but I was left wanting more. The many photographs are really the core of the book, and the model is covered thoroughly in black and white with a central color section. If you see a high resolution scan of the cover, this is a classic case of not judging the book by it's cover - for some reason, it is a poorly reproduced digital image, whereas the photographs in the body are higher quality.

This is an important work to scholars of the Titanic. What I particularly appreciated was the author's clear differentiation of which areas are factual and which are educated conjectures. As he states, there will never be a totally accurate model of the ship built, but his must surely be the closest to that goal yet made. I highly recommend the book, and, if you are visiting Orlando, seeing the model in person.

I pick this audiobook up recently and have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Gielgud and Richardson were simply amazing in their respective roles as Holmes & Watson, and I believe the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle himself would have approved.

Worth mentioning is another item I read recently, The Crime Doctor. This book depicts EW Horung's sleuth, Dr. John Dollar, in his exploits in England and throughout Europe.

Both products recieve 5 stars from me.

The All-Time BEST Sherlock Holmes Audiobook Stories...

I'm 25. I first heard Gielgud and Richardson's "The Speckled Band" back when I was in 6th grade. I found copies of the Baker Street Dozen stories at my local library, and would constantly check them out, over and over again. Around 8 or 9 years ago, I bought my own copies in a cassette boxed set, which have since worn out.

So I was more than thrilled to see this, the Baker Street Dozen stories on CD, and separated into chapters, at that! There are websites that have copies of these stories, but they are in terrible quality, or chopped up. For stories that were first recorded in 1953, they sound like they were recorded yesterday. I have a bunch of old radio broadcasts on CD, ranging from THE SHADOW to MURDER AT MIDNIGHT and THE GREEN HORNET, and their quality ranges from horrible to fair. But THIS, my friends, is British radio at its finest; fully dramatized, with music and sound effects that fit right into the story, characters that come to life, and stories that will keep you listening over and over again.

It seems everyone in America can't look past the Sherlock Holmes ideal with Basil Rathbone and his rendition of the great detective... nobody really bothers to look or listen to other actors' versions of the character. Sir John Gielgud is, in my opinion, the greatest portrayer of Holmes. EVER.

To wrap this up... if you're a Sherlock Holmes fan, GET THIS. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. The acting is superb, the quality is astounding for something that's over 50 years old, and the replay value is higher than high, because these stories are timeless. The game is afoot, and you should come along...

These great recordings were made for the BBC in 1954 and were first aired in the UK that year and in the US in early 1955. The casting is perfect John Gielgud as Holmes and Ralph Richardson as Watson could not be beaten for a radio broadcast, and this probably still holds true to this day 53 years later. Although I think Jeremy Brett would push Gielgud close even without the visual aspect.

The addition of Orson Welles as Prof Moriarty in the story The Final problem is the icing on the cake. That penetrating voice is chilling and truly Holmes/Geilgud meets his match in Welles/Moriarty. Any Sherlock Holmes fan should get these historic recordings - you really don't know what you are missing.

Three kinds of customers will appreciate this well-remastered collection: (1) Sherlockians, who love all things Doyle; (2) lovers of classic radio drama; (3) afficionados of two of England's finest actors of the modern stage, Sir John Gielgud (playing Holmes) and Sir Ralph Richardson (Watson). Since both actors also possessed two of the twentieth century's most mellifluous stage voices, these dramatizations are a feast for the ear. If you're at least two of these three customers in one, this reasonably priced set may be an irresistible buy. Get it now, before it goes out of print.

I'm thirteen years old and I have been watching Dawson's Creek since it started. I thought this book gave tons of information about the show, what was going on in it, and all about the people who star as the main characters. This book would be great for people who want to learn more about Dawson's Creek because it is filled with so much information. I love it! :)

Calling Hilary Rice by such a nickname may seem to indicate familiarity but the fact is that after reading this incredible book, I feel as if I know Ms. Rice as personally as I would know, say, my best friend. As a big Dawson's Creek fan, I must say that Ms. Rice does the show, the characters, and the actors, a great service. If there is one book that will make people appreciate this wonderful show, it would be this one. And I would hesitate to call anyone a fan who has not purchased this book. Ms. Rice's wonderful appreciation for the show, and delightful sense of humor make this book a joy to read. I would read it again and again, if I did not have classes to attend.

This is a great collection of eight half-hour 'Suspense' episodes, unabridged! The acting is excellent, and the stories themselves are very suspenseful. Below is a list of the eight shows:

1. A Little Piece of Rope: This is one of the shows where Lucille Ball proves her talent in drama. She plays a young criminal whose latest victim will turn out to be one she, herself, will be terrified of.

2. Too Perfect Alibi: Danny Kaye stars in this story about a murder and an alibi that turned out to be too 'perfect'.

3. The Earth is Made of Glass: Joseph Cotton stars in this episode... Expect a twist ending.

4. The Name of the Beast: Vincent Price stars as a painter who is determined to do anything to finish his painting 'The Name of the Beast'. Sadly, his model Beast turns out to be quite murderous.

5. Deep into Darkness: This is a story, starring Douglas Fairbanks Jr., about a man who finds out that he has suffered in the past for something he never actually did. And he wants revenge.

6. Death Has a Shadow: Bob Hope stars in this episode as a business-man who is frightened of a blackmailer.

7. Ghost Hunt: An immensely creepy story concerning a radio host who decides to spend the night in a haunted house, recording his every move. Listen to this one in the dark.

8. Murder Through the Looking Glass: Gregory Peck stars in this tale concerning split personalities.

Over all, the collection is excellent, you can skip the commercials if you want, and I'd definitely recommend this to anyone interested in old-time radio.

Tales For a Dark and Stormy Night

"Suspense" set the bar for all other shows of mystery and suspense. Old radio was a theatre of the imagination and perhaps no show had our imaginations so enthralled each week as did "Suspense." We were led into dark corners of murder and crime, and sometimes even the supernatural. Listeners around the country were glued to their chairs and stools as families huddled around the radio for entertainment.

While radio will never rule the airwaves as it once did, these shows are an opportunity to revisit this fabulous medium once again and discover its greatness. Big stars appeared often and eagerly on "Suspense" because of its quality. It was nice exposure between films and a chance to stretch their acting skills. The scripts and productions were all topflight. "Suspense" was one show which never disappointed the listener.

Included in this collection is "Ghost Hunt" with Ralph Edwards. It ranks right up there with "The House on Cyprus Canyon," "The Hitchhiker," and "A Thing of Beauty" as one of the finest episodes of "Suspense" ever aired. A man spends the night in a lonely house on a ghost hunt, recording what happens. It is tense and exciting and a little eerie. Though there are other excellent shows included here, it alone makes this one worth owning.

"A Little Piece of Rope" stars Lucille Ball. "Too Perfect Alibi" stars Danny Kaye. "The Name of the Beast" stars Vincent Price. "Deep into Darkness" stars Douglas Fairbanks Jr. "Death Has a Shadow" stars Bob Hope. "Ghost Hunt" stars Ralph Edwards. "Murder Through the Looking Glass" features Gregory Peck.

The catch-phrase, "Roma wine presents" or "Autolite presents" voiced over those famous and ominous chimes are recognizable to anyone who loves old radio. Radio ruled the airwaves for decades and "Suspense" was one of the finest and most popular shows ever produced. These eight gems will have you using your imagination as no television show or feature film can.

Radio was a theatre of the imagination, stretching the mind into shadowed corners and crimes with a twist. An excellent introduction to old radio, and especially "Suspense." Those curious about this now nearly forgotten medium which once ruled the nation can discover why with this sterling collection of stories guaranteed to keep you in, Suspense!

An Awesome Collection!
