West's Time Machine

Being a children's author and teacher, I often enjoy reading Charlotte's Web as a child and now I enjoy reading the book to my son and my students. I think part of the reason this book has remained one of my favorites is because of the classic friendship between Wilbur and Charlotte. Both characters demonstrate an unselfish kind of love that is demonstrated from the time they meet. As a mother I want to teach my children the valuable life lesson of being a good friend and I think this story teaches that lesson in a non-didactic fashion. Charlotte's Web will forever be a classic in my heart.

My daughter loves these boys! Anything they print, she will read. Keep them coming! She loves this show!

While this book deals with opposites (i.e. high/low), the story and pictures are really cute. I laughed out loud when I read it in the store. I bought it for that reason alone. As an adult, I need more laughter in my life and this book does the trick.

This enchanting Christmas picturebook for young readers, written by Deanna Luke entirely in rhyming verse, emphasizes the joys of sharing and celebration. Chris Mouse goes on an adventure through the Christmas House, and learns important lessons of love and holiday spirit to take home with him. Engagingly illustrated by JoAnn A. Woytek, the Christmas colors of red, green, and white abound on each page of this heartwarming journey.

In this simple, rhymed story, mice joyfully bounce through their holiday preparations, decorating their house, wrapping presents, trimming their tree, baking cookies, and singing "Jingle Bells." Suddenly they see footprints- their old enemy, the cat, is lurking nearby! But all ends well in this story of peace and brotherhood.

The fun, colorful illustrations are full of delightful details, such as a postage stamp decorating the wall of the mouse home, and a thimble tree stand for the tiny twig Christmas tree. Even Santa makes an appearance, with his wish for "Peace to all!"

This book would be a great Christmas gift, and is quickly becoming a new Christmas tradition in our home.

Okay, maybe it's a bit passé to review my own book, but as the illustrator, I have to admit that I loved this story. Christmas is my favorite time of year. When I was working on the illustrations for this book I brought a little brown mouse that I named Nuss ("nut" in German) into my home. Having owned pet mice in the past I didn't really need an excuse. I find them to be charming little companions. Unfortunately Nuss is no longer with us here in the studio, but I am happy that she lives on in this charming story. I highly recommend this book as a sweet and warm way to share the true meaning of the season and settle those restless heads on Christmas eve.

Christmas Without a Tree is a must read for families with young children. It's a touching story that reveals the true meaning of Christmas and you will want to read it over and over again with your young ones. One young pig's attempts to bring Christmas to another provides a poignant lesson for adults and children alike. My husband and I cried the first time we read it and plan to give it as a gift to family and friends so that they may enjoy it with their children also.

Highly recommended for beginning readers too.

And this picture book, written and illustrated by Ruth Ohi, is full of them. Or rather, I should say, it's full of anthropomorphized guinea pig characters.

"Clara and the Bossy" is the story of a little guinea pig girl named Clara --- a very unique little guinea pig. Clara has several bedtime friends and some very specific favorite things --- triangles, sandwiches and the color purple.

At school, Clara meets another guinea pig named Madison. Madison and Clara become best friends, but Clara discovers something about her new best friend --- she seems to be very bossy and criticizes the things that Clara does and wears. What will Clara do?

This book features soft, pleasing illustrations and a nice story. It's probably one best read aloud to younger readers, as it's a bit complex. Still, a nice picture book with good ideas and a great moral.
