This book is wonderful. Lots of information, but a little pricy. Overall, it's a good deal for you if you love horses like me. One problem I had was I didn't know how many pages were in the book. All I know is it has more than 17 pages because there are 17 sample pages. I enjoyed looking at the sample pages. Thank you.

This book is truly a complete guide to horse breeds. Unfortunately the quality of the book material was a disappointment. It was filled with photos; but only a few were color photos. The pages were not much better than the quality of a comic book, thin and yellow. I expected much more for the price. 4 stars solely on the detail and depth of it's information.

Bonnie Hendricks has gone far beyond what any other horse breed researcher has done...she has contacted every breed association she possibly could. She has written with far more detail, greater accuracy, and on many more breeds than any other horse book I have seen. Her intelligent ideas inserted into some breed descriptions are well worth noting. This is a MUST-HAVE for the serious equine enthusiast! It has definitely spoiled my appetite for any other horse book that attempts to describe the breeds. Thanks Bonnie, we needed this book!

Jurassic Fishes is an apt title because most of the covered fish or their immediate ancestors were residents of the periods of the dinosaurs. This book will appeal to aquarists interested in the primitive fish, most notably the Polypterus, Arrowana, Knifes, and oddballs like the African Butterfly. It's also not a bad volume for the evolutionary biologist with a casual interest in fish. You won't find phylogentic trees or cladograms here, but an overview of the evolution and geographical distribution of ancient fish - particularly those of African origin.
Of course, like all the TFH books, the pictures are excellent and printed with their special glossy method that makes the pages stick together, but is well worth the effort once you pry them apart! The "glossiness" of TFH books often accompanies a banal text or downright misinformative writing. That is NOT the case here. These guys know their stuff and present it in an intelligent way. This will be a respected volume in your natural history collection.

This is a definite must buy for lovers of aquarium oddballs. There is also a section on the freshwater stingray. The name of the book is of course misleading as it is neither about fossils nor even the evolution of fishes. The only relevance of such a title is the fact that some of the featured species such as the birchir and the lungfish are two of the most ancient group of living fishes.

An excellent resource and reference tome for keepers of many species of primitive fishes, with excellent photography throughout. I keep and raise many specimens of Polypteridae and knife fish, and would not be without this volume in my library....it is the essential cornerstone of any reference collection on primitive fishes.

After months of looking for information on the genus Polypterus I chanced upon this book. It contains more data than all the other books I had read combined (and there were over ten). And the pictures! Absolutely stunning! A must buy for anyone who is interested in the older and more interesting species of aquarium fish.

In this book Garzooka, Odious, Starlena, Abnermal, and Compooky find them selves in another adventure to save the universe. This is the third book in the seris and the best. I liked the Pet Force books because they are exciting and funny. Vetvix, the pet force's archenemy creats a brain boosting device and increeses a dovermen's intellagence and strength. Then went around the universe increeseing dogs intellagence and strength. K-Niner gives the dogs collars to put on their owners. The colars make the owners act like dogs. If you liked this book you should read other Garfield books by Jim Davis

I think kniner dog of doom is by, far the best book in the series. In this book Vetvix creates a brain bosting machine and increeses a dovermen's intellagence. I really liked this book because it's exciting and funny. K-niner went to kennel (a planet with a lot of dogs), used the brain bosting machine and bosted all the dogs intelagence so they could walk and talk. Then he starts going to other planets and bosting dogs brains. If you liked this book you should read other books by Jim Davis.

I really liked this book. It is without a doubt the best book of the series. In this book Vetvix has created K-niner and tries to brainwash all dogs everywhere. This book was very funny as well as action packed. I would highly recommend it for any Garfield fan or for anyone who likes an adventure with a little bit of humor as well.

I'm in 5th grade and I liked this book because it makes me laugh. When I read Garfield's PET FORCE, Garfield and his friends had super powers. They transformed into big masled dogs. This made them stronger. Then they go fight K-niner and the other villans. They fought K-niner,a big dog, because K-niner put collors on humans to make them act like dogs. I would recommend this book to people of all ages, especially if they like Garfield and PET FORCE books. In the real world there would not be animals that have super powers and can fly. Also, there is no such thing as dogs that can think, talk and walk on two feet, like Garfield and the other super heros. The PET FORCE real names are Garzooka,a cat,Odious,a dog,Starlena,a cat,Abnermal,a cat, and compooky is a teddy bear. There's a bad person and his name is K-niner: Dog of Boom. His master is Vetvix's. There's also a wizard who has very strong powers;evil powers that can destroy people. I liked this book because there were animals with super powers who could go in space. Animals are qreat, like Rosco and Soloman,my cats. I wonder what it would be like if my cats had super powers.

Has other health complications listed that can cause lameness and syptoms of lameness. I refer to it often. Layed out in section eg: hoof, lower leg, upper leg etc etc so you can go straight to the chapter you wish to look at. Well set out and easy to read. I highly recommend it!

The book "Lameness: Recognizing and Treating the Horse's Most Common Ailment", is a well-written and informative book. The knowledge presented is accessible to the average horse person, and very extensive, covering just about every possible cause of equine lameness in the legs, hooves, and other parts of a horse's anatomy.
The book also covers methods of identifying different types of lameness, recognizing gait abnormalities, managing diseases, treating wounds, hoof care, shoeing, and available therapies, medications, and veterinary care. Veterinary therapies and surgical procedures are discussed, such as joint lavage, arthroscopic surgery, and the application of casts.

Raised on a Wisconsin dairy farm about 15-20 years later than author Ben Logan, I have long since concluded that for me it was the Right Time - Right Place. Logan's living history of family values, relationships and life lessons, told in the context or rural farm life, lets me relive my life through his, and glean our mutual past for the source of our values. I just read The Land Remembers for the second time. I think I'll read it every year.

I'm biased, because I'm from Gays Mills, WI (I used to mow Leita Slayton's lawn!) - but I recently re-read it, and was surprised at how many of the anecdotes and images I remembered were actually from The Land Remembers, and not from Steinbeck or anyone else better-known. Parts of this book will stay with you for years and years. It's like going home again every time I pick it up.

This is one of those books I will always remember. My children were young when I read it and I felt that it contained many lessons on how to be a good parent. And all in the context of very enjoyable reading. The story about learning to use the horse drawn cultivator shows how a parents help their child develop self-confidence, which is something I see so many people lacking. I can't say enough good things about this gem of a book.

This book is full of humor and spends wonderful time on how a farm is run, explaining the land, the chores, the wonder of living on a farm. Ben's antics with his brothers are delightful, and his account of his evenings with his family are memorable. I read this anytime I need a lift, and share its richness with anyone who will listen.

One room school house, the changing of the seasons and the farm chores for each one...a memior of one man's boyhood experiences. I liked this book and my husband liked it even more than I did. He was born and raised in rural WI, picking rocks, milking, and going sledding with his brothers. This book is well written and reads like a time capsule...the people & chores on a family farm. I would have given it a perfect 5 stars, but there is too much about bees. Less bee watching and the author would have a classic here. Great that his story goes full circle. We learn what happens to the people we've read and cared about...which is always gratifying to us readers.

With "Larry: The King of Rock and Roll," Iris Rainer Dart and Joyce Brotman have created a moral tale that is at once wildly fun, totally absorbing, and quite touching. As we follow the sky-rocketing career (and ego) of Larry, a talented and talkative Maltese, we learn that even the most famous fido has his day and ultimately needs his friends. In Larry's case, these are Tom and Cathy, the father and daughter who are, respectively, Larry's musical partner and his best friend. Rainer Dart and Brotman give extra zip to the story of Larry's rise, fall, and return to grace by alternating the chapters between Cathy's narration of events and Larry's, creating a conflict of perspective that will keep children and adults eagerly flipping the pages. A great story--even for cat people!

LIFE IS SHORT; EAT BISCUITS is beautifully illustrated, and through the eyes of a puppy, reinvents so many of life's "words of wisdom"...sayings we've repeatedly heard, but unfortunately seldom apply. This book is truly Puppy Chow for the soul; especially for those of us that have experienced the unconditional love bestowed on us by our own "Calvin" puppy. Life is indeed short, so take the time, and share a biscuit with someone you love while enjoying this book. Kudos to the author and illustrator!!!

This is a wonderful book! The photographs are simply stunning and the layout of the book is great. This is an excellent sample of Lanting's work.

Having followed Lanting's photo career since the origin of Nature Photographers of North America, we anxiously awaited his Life book and were not disappointed. Here is represented the beginnings of earth, after the Big Bang, and the geological results.

cool book, the only problem is it's a quick read, and $5 is kinda pricy or 30 min. of reading.

I love this book, especially when I want a pet meself. My parents are the same as Abby's, they won't let you do anything! I love the part where Abby sneak T-Jeff in to the house,(Her cat.) I was sooooooo excited that I didn't even heard my mother calling me for dinner!
I'm the biggest fan of Abby and Anne Mazer. When I saw one of Abby's books that I haven't got, I'll beg my parents for it! Anne Mazer's books is like collecting the whole world's idea then make it in to a book. And this one has the most of it.

I thought this book was fun to read. I enjoyed it.
Abby Hayes is this cute red-haired girl/ In this story she made me laugh alot. She finished school in June, and during the summer vacation Abby was bored and she was thinking about asking her parents to get her a pet. She was thinking of getting a bunch of weird pets like an elephant, a frog, a horse, a cow, a rabbit and other animals. She finally decided on a pet,and went to her parents to ask if they could buy her a pet. Her parents didn't feel she was responsible, so she had to prove herself to them. She baby-sat for her twin brothers, and did lots of chores around the house. Finally, her parents decided she proved herself and got her a kitten.

This book was another one of my favorites in the series and once you read it, it will be yours, too. Abby desperataly wants a pet, and her neighbor, Heather, has a cat named Marshmallow who is just adorable! Plus, she had kittens and Heather doesn't know what to do with them. After Abby takes care of Marshmallow as a favor to Heather, she gets one of Marshmallow's kittens! She uses all of her money to take care of it and finally, Abby's parents say that she can keep it, with the help of one of her SuperSibs (to find out which one, read the book). Plus, while all of this is going on, there is a big diving contest at the pool. Who will win the contest and what will happen to the kitten, now that Abby gets to keep it? To find out, get a copy of this great book!

I read Love Heels over a period of several days and was particularly impressed with the heart warming stories of the dog and human teams. One of the stories was about a little boy, whose short life was made bearable by the grace of his beloved service dog. None of us likes to think that our dogs will outlive our children, but some dogs have the great privilege of being there for people in a way that is unique and healing. The whole book is moving really, with stories about people from all walks of life who have survived and thrived in part because of the spirit of their canine companions.
If you already love dogs, or are involved in a service profession, you won't regret having this book on your coffee-table or in your study.
And as a physician who has a great interest in service and therapy dogs [...], I heartily recommend this book.
Be well,

What a wonderful organization...stories to touch hearts of all ages. We are currently raising a puppy for CCI and the experiences of the authors are especially meaningful.

This book makes a great gift. It is a very nice looking book at a good price. The pictures are as touching as the stories. If you love dogs or just want to read stories about love and courage this is a "must have" book.

Oh, wow! I highly recommend this book. I have been a puppy raiser for CCI since 1988, and this book absolutely captures the heart and soul of this wonderful organization. I have lived the puppy-raising part twelve times, so I especially appreciate the breeder-caretaker and graduate stories. The book not only reinforces the specialness of the bond between humans and dogs, but also gives you insight into how the lives of those who receive these awesome animals are forever changed. Buy it!

This is a most wonderful book that captures that magical and intangible thing that makes the relationship between humans and dogs so deep. My partner lost her service dog this past year and we don't know when she will be able to get another. This book reminded us that other people know what that special connection is, too. I recommend it with complete enthusiasm.

One thing I would like to say about the reviews on this book. The book is exactly as described by Amazon and the University of Oklahoma Press and I want to debunk the few odd reviews stating that this book consists of ten yellowed pages. I have no idea why anyone would state such a thing but can assure you that it is untrue and completely ridiculous.
Thanks,
Bonnie Hendricks
