Loosing a tooth, in particular, the first tooth, is quite a big deal for the little ones. Even I, now slowly sinking into my dotage, can remember that event in my life quite clearly. It is both exciting and, to a certain extent, traumatic. This little book is helpful. It uses a puppy and more or less projects the anxiety and excitement from the child to the dog. Most kids can identify with their pet dog and feel comfortable in doing so. The author has used some very nice watercolors here which are well executed and quite eye cathing in a soothing way. This is a wonderful book to read to and with your child as they approach the first tooth loss time of their life. It is also a very good read to a class full of this age children. A quick read of this one can bring on well over an hour of discussion with the kids as they tell their personal stories. Recommend this one highly.

I bought this book in 1988 - and I still have it on my shelf fifteen years later! It's the authors own personal story about her weight loss and in the end she tells you there is no magic cure - you just have to find your own path. BUT DO IT!

great, very honest and motaving. The author comes from an obesce family and talks about the supr dangers of being overweight. by being chronically obese they were prone to many illnesses they might have avoided otherwise. diets don,t work. must learn new eating habits. no forbidden foods only inapporiate amounts of food. you don't have to eat breakfast, learn to rely on your stomach to tell you when to eat. people respond to food like laboatory rats;when the food is laced in front of them they eat it whether they are hungry or not. gives actual guidelines and steps to be successful. very positive book.

Pain Relief for Pennies
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-07-01
I'm a nutritionist, and this quickly became one of the most important books in my library! I've used the recipes in the book to help friends and family members who are in pain, along with using it on myself, and it works *fabulously* well!!!

The problem with over-the-counter NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) like aspirin, Naproxen (Aleve) and Ibuprofen (Advil) is that with regular use, they often cause gastrointestinal bleeding, ulcerations, and/or perforations (with or without pain). If you were able to apply the above NSAIDs topically, you could totally avoid that problem ... which is exactly what I did when I made the pain-relief recipes in this book ... for just pennies!!!

I often tell my clients that whethere it's their nutrition or diet, "one size does not fit all." The same holds true for pain relief. What's incredibly cool about this book is that there are a *number* of approaches/solutions/recipes that can be tried. So if one recipe doesn't work to your liking, either try a different one or try adjusting the ingredient amounts. As an example, I found I got better (faster) pain relief when I increased the amount of Naproxen in the recipe.

Analgesic (pain relief) formulas are only one part of what is covered in the book. There are also some excellent recipes for men (and WOMEN!) suffering from hair loss, cold sores, and genital herpes.

The book is only about 38 pages long, but don't let that fool you. At 30 bucks, it's a steal!!!

When you're making pain relief formulas for yourself, please consider making extra and passing it out to friends and family who suffer from chronic pain. I can think of no greater gift or act of humanity. And if you find value in this book, consider supporting the site and man responsible for writing the book ... Stephen Martin and [...]

Dr. Martin shares his experience as a research scientist using natural approaches in dealing with pain and relieving degenerative diseases. This is a unique approach that really works. I've successfully applied the pain formulation and topical applications are very powerful, but it also makes logical sence, at least in my mind. I would recommend the book!

In Search of a Yatz: A Love Story

Review Date: 2001-07-10
We come across so many books in our lifetime - some good, some not. "In Search of a Yatz" is a book that I would wish to the world!

We have all experienced painful times in our relationships - in love, and sometimes even friendship. This book gives you the courage to make it thru the times you wonder if you can and the belief that it will be worth it. Being true to yourself may be one of the most arduous paths in life to take, but having faith in the end result as well as the journey itself is what it's all about. Even the most painful experiences can teach us something, and thru that growth we end up stronger and richer - even though we may struggle to believe it at the time.

Toni has a beautiful way of combining our rational side with our spiritual. And, while what she writes is amazingly thought provoking, her writing style allows you to so comfortably sink in and enjoy the experience -- I haven't found many books that I just did not want to end, and this was certainly one of them.

Very touching, down to earth love story!

In the Library of Silences, Poems of Loss

Poetic Comfort

Review Date: 2004-05-06
Mary Sue Koeppel is a poet who is able to share intimacy without discomfort and to express compassion without qualification. She demonstrates the value of poetry upon the individual, and she achieves this within the context of superbly crafted verse. In the Library of Silences is a wonderful selection of poems for anyone experiencing grief as well as for anyone who appreciates the healing potential of poetry. Simply stated, this thin volume is an artistic value by any definition.

Poems That Go To The Heart of These Hard Times
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2002-01-26
Loss is perhaps the most universal of all griefs. Mary Sue Koeppel explores its many layers and dimensions in this book. Her poems are both personal and universal. She takes the reader into the heart of loss, its emotional impact, its psychological damages, its strict refusal to play favorites. But there is much to hope for, even in the pit of loss.
In this age of death, violent death everywhere -- when death has come home in thousands of instances simultaneously, right here at home -- Koeppel's renditions of how loss feels and how it leads to acceptance and even a sort of wisdom are the strengths of these poems. This is the type of poetry that taps into our deepest fears while helping us to face what can't be changed.
Auden called his time "the age of anxiety." Koeppel gives us ample reason to call our time "the age of loss and what follows."
A book like this helps me to understand how grief and loss can be very private; however, both often spill over into public passions and common sorrows. Koeppel is a fine poet who has spent a long apprenticeship as editor, teacher, and writer. Her poems are spare and unswerving. She puts a great deal of passion into a few deceptively simple lines. IN THE LIBRARY OF SILENCES: POEMS OF LOSS is a true library, and it is appropriate to call it one of silences, because that is how loss is handled, ultimately. Silence can be healing. Most of us deal with our losses in silence.

Jeff is absolutely right. This book is a comprehensive understanding of different types of grief. It helped me realize and come to terms with my own grief, a large portion I hadn't actualized at the time. I would actually recommend this book to anybody, especially my colleagues in the healthcare field.

Grief Work and Ministry

This is a very comprehensive book about grief and understanding the issues facing those who are experiencing grief. It deals with every kind of bereavement issue that you can think of including when death comes unannounced, when death is anticipated, the death of a spouse, child, infant and friend, sibling and parent. I found the chapters on dealing with those on the death of a child or infant and unexpected death to be particularly helpful in trying to help ministry to those who are experiencing these types of loss. Very comprehensive. Dorothy Becvar covers the issues from every angle.

Wonderful book for overcoming obsessive eating
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-29
This book was incredibly helpful to me when I was being compulsive and perfectionistic about my eating in my 20's (and as a result only gaining weight and hurting myself). It is wise without being too heavy, soothing, has a friendly tone. Instead of being dictatorial like so many self-help books can be, Ms. Billigmeier instead provides helpful graphs and examples about how to contain eating episodes, give yourself parameters, etc. I lent my copy out to someone who never returned it, and I am SO GLAD to see that it is still in print and available, as it is not widely known. It should be, it is a great tool and well worth having.

Harvey is the master. I was his client for a half-year and lost 50 pounds. I now know how to keep it off. I have personally seen men under his guidance lose over 200 pounds. He teaches real value and it works.

It's simple and it works.

At 244 pounds, I met Harvey Brooker in Toronto in August 2006. With his guidance and food plan I was able to shed 37 of those pounds and keep them off. I am now living in Tucson and can no longer see Harvey in person, but his plan is still working for me, and it can for you too.

What is in this book is the "meat and potatos" of what Harvey taught me at his men's weight loss sessions on Sunday mornings. This book is about a new, maintainable lifestyle, not a diet scheme to try, fail and forget.

I have met the men pictured in this book. The inspiration they gave me was golden. Seeing the results of this sensible program walk in the room every Sunday morning proved to me that what Harvey has to teach is valuable and it works.

For those of you who want to change your life, buy this book. It has everything that you need to obtain a healthier lifestyle, it's easy to follow and will bring you the results that you desire.

When I lost my dog, I really felt like no one would understand. It was so hard to want to pick up and move on, but this book has helped me more than words can really say. It not only provides some heartfelt reading, but also gives ample space to write, from the heart, all the memories about your pet. It has helped me start to heal. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has gone through such a profound, deep loss as losing a furry best friend! I wish I could meet the author and thank her in person for helping me pay tribute to my best friend!

Longtime Friend

Review Date: 2006-03-09
I bought this journal and three self-help books for my husband just before we put down my husband's dog, Granger of 16+ years. My spouse and Granger were true best friends. Me and the other dogs came later in life. So Granger was a large part. This journal is the only book that I bought that he liked and that has helped him in the grieving process. This book helped when nothing else could. So I recommend it highly.
