When I read "Spirit of the Intimacy" I was really amazed. Such a wisdom, so vibrant... such an ancient knowledge. Ideas totally new for me, but I could feel the Truth in them.
The Dagara village, that place so special... that wonderful community.
I was fortunate of learning about these things.
I can understand that so many people put so much expectations on you.
Then, the fall. After all you are a human being, no more no less.
That is why I bow at you. At the great bravery behind your sincerity.
No pretend to be what others would like you to be, just sincerity, just humanity.
That is wisdom also.
Thanks for your book

Once again, Some has tapped into the wisdom that comes from the Motherland of Black folks. Falling Out of Grace, offers meditations and reflections for the times during one's life journey when we need to be reconnected to the deep, inner core of our being. Mankind is truly more than flesh and blood.

One of the most beautiful and genuinely helpful books I've ever read. Every page had something that I wanted to absorb into my life, and it's written in such a way that it is so easily absorbed into your consciousness. In Sobonfu's books, everything goes back to a connection or lack of connection with Spirit. Everything. And the way she describes Spirit is so elegant and accessible. Highly recommended to anyone who wants guidance on how to view their "failures" and difficulties in a positive light and turn them into opportunities for growth.

The right book at the right time. It is sad that the message of Sobonfu E. Some does not reach more people. Her message is the true message of living a purpose-driven life. Her message is deeply spiritual that does not dabble into the dogma that plague traditional western religions. Her message is about empowerment by knowing and accepting one's purpose, even if that purpose is one that you flat out deny. It is about embracing failure and using it as a stepping stone to move forward in one's life. It is about how we as a community can help one another when we fall, instead of running from and turning away those that have fallen. It's about not being stuck. It's about practicing humility and going home even when home is the last place you want to be. It is about accepting responsibility with choices we've made and even the choice we made to either stay stuck or move forward.
This is a book that you keep nearby because you will refer to it when you slip along your spiritual path. Despite what is taught in our western culture, it is sometimes necessary to slip or, as the author puts it, fall out of grace so that we can acheive our true purpose.
This is a book that you want to give to everyone you know that have fallen out of grace or to put in lay terms, is going through a bad time. After reading some of the meditations I had to simply pause and reflect because her message hit home with experiences that were very real to me.
There are self help books that are twice the size as this book whose message gets lost in the verbiage and whose message is not one of empowerment but of guilt and oppression and how to honor a higher power that keeps you in fear and oppressed. This is simply a powerful little book and probably one of the most powerful books you'd ever read.

This book really helped to change my life. Dino offers such wonderful advice and encouragement on how to loose weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. It is not about a diet or eliminating a food group. It is about a lifestyle change. SO much of what I learned when reading this more than a year ago, I use on a weekly basis. This book teaches that we don't have to be a slave to diets or fads and we can have the foods that we want when we factor them into balanced eating.
The book was very informative and insightful.

I found this book so appealing and refreshing, candid and inspiring. Mr. Nowak tells the truth that diet pill companies do not. He also hits on how the spiritual connects with the physical and how to balance them out in proper perspective. A great book for anyone wanting to have true weight loss at any age along with so many exercises you can do at home. Definitely a must read for anyone out there who has tried everything else and it hasn't worked. Let this book take you step by step on a 40 day journey to true weight loss while teaching you to love yourself at the same time. Definitely a keeper!

Clear explaination. Kind encouragement. At 62 and very overweight and under exercised and after many attempts to loose and get fit, I happended to hear an interview with the author and believed that he was genuine and that he had a real plan that might work. The book did not disappoint. It is not just for "beautiful" people or the young. Mind, body, and spirit are all addressed. I'm daring to hope again.

Finally a book on health and fitness that makes sense has been published. As a person who has struggled with overweight since childhood, I am rejoicing in a resource that not only makes sense but one that deals with the issue right where I live. At 54 years of age, I have probably lost and gained hundreds of pounds in my lifetime. As a fat teen and young adult I followed every diet that came along ... fad and legitimate ... always to the ultimate end of failure and discouragement. After years of one new diet or exercise regiem after another, I finally reconciled myself to the idea that I was pretty much going to be overweight for life.
Finding THE FINAL MAKEOVER by Dino Nowak, changed all of that for me. For the first time in my life I am following a program that a real person can follow and actually see results. Dino makes no claims in his book that cannot be proven out by simply following them and applying. There are no "silver bullets" in this program. It is simply one of commitment to discipline and hard work. Following the program outlined in FINAL MAKEOVER probably won't turn me into a magazine cover model. After following Dino's program for two months now I can say that I feel healthier and more energized than I have ever felt in my life. I am rarely if ever hungry. Following his simple instructions I simply eat when I am hungry, and do so in quantities that are appropriate to my fitness goals. My blood pressure has lowered sufficiently so that my physician has reduced my HBP meds for the first time in 10 years.
I have lost 20 pounds and have lost two pants sizes. I am seeing fat being replaced by solid muscle mass. In short, every day is bringing changes that encourage and inspire me to look toward a better day of fitness tomorrow.
Finally as a Christian, I am thrilled to have found someone who makes fitness a process through which the God I love is proclaimed and glorified.
It's not ALL about me, but the better I am for me, the greater I can function for Him! Fortunately God has blessed me with better health than I deserve, and certainly better than I have earned. Finding a Christian fitness professional who FIRST gives God all the glory and then shows me honestly how I can make my physical body the tool that God designed it to be, thrills my heart and motivates me to be my best. If in the process I can feel and look better than I ever have in my life, SO MUCH THE BETTER!!!!!
And as I joked with by best friend, "Maybe I'll never have a six-pack. BUT, maybe I will! Wouldn't that be a hoot!"
Kudos and thanks eternally to Dino for what he has done!

A manual on grieving

This is a practical, well-written, inclusive manual on how to grieve after the loss of a spouse. It divides the grieving process into five parts: shock, denial, anger, depression, and adjustment. It describes each stage, tells the reader what to expect at that stage, and makes suggestions for moving through that stage and onto the next. Each chapter begins with narration by Gloria Lintermans in which she describes the feelings she experienced as she went through the grieving process. The authors stress that each person is different and each will go through grieving in a different way and in a different time span, but there are some components that are common to most people's experience. There are suggestions not only for the one who has lost a spouse, but also for their friends and families. There is a "Mourner's Bill of Rights" and a workbook which helps to express grief through the written word. The suggestions for helping to heal are psychologically sound and the authors do not consider any topic out of bounds in this book. It is one that I will recommend to friends and will refer to when I am next in the grieving process. I wish that I had had the book many years ago when my father died because much of the impact of the book comes from finding out that abnormal becomes normal during grieving, and strange behavior by the mourner does not indicate impending insanity. I congratulate the authors on writing an important and helpful book.

It is a fact of life for everyone that, at one time or another, we will lose someone close to us. We cannot bypass this experience nor can someone take the pain from us, but we can learn more through the author's personal story of how we can make this heart-wrenching journey a little less confusing and how we can come to terms with this reality of life...namely death.
Author Gloria Lintermans opens her heart and her story of the death of her husband Rick within this book, and it is the story of 24 months of healing she experienced, that brings to the reader, a new insight into losing a loved one and how to go on living without them. Though loosely based on the "stages of grief" by Elizabeth Kubler Ross, this book takes us in a new direction with grief. It explains through the author's personal experience, how there are five "time sequences of death" and how each of these fit within the timeframe of healing. Shock, Denial, Anger, Depression, and Integration-Adjustment-Transition are all addressed within this book with questions, suggestions and "do's and don'ts" within each sequence, well thought out and written in a manner that is easily read and understood. The simple, down-to-earth language and the experiences of the author, make this a book that reaches readers from all walks of life and a wide range of ages as well. From teens on up, this book could easily fill a need within many persons, needing help to deal with loss.
As I have gotten older, I have had to face the deaths of many close to me, as most my age have. Not having any idea of what was to come, I was often lost in a sea of my own grief, wishing someone would throw me a lifeline. I didn't have such a book as "The Healing Power of Grief," but I can see how it would have been exactly what I needed to get me through those confusing, grief-filled days. The honesty, the personal insight and the workbook included within this book, are amazing and exactly what is needed for many who are grieving. Not only does it address issues we may not realize were there, but "The Healing Power of Grief" helps the reader through the long process to growth and insight into our grief. It helps us see where we were and where we have come, and through this journey we see hope and comfort through the healing that eventually comes as time goes on. The mere writing of one's thoughts and feelings is not only a healing process but a way to remember our loss in a positive way. Through the simple process of writing, we can begin the long, solitary process of living without our loved one as well as living with our grief. I would sincerely recommend this book to anyone dealing with grief in their lives and wanting to learn how to grow through their grief. It is a wonderful book and one I intend to keep should that time again arise that I need the advice within its covers.
I would highly recommend "The Healing Power of Grief" to anyone who is experiencing the death of someone dear. It is a straightforward, simply-put book that puts into clear perspective, the time process of grief and how the heart can heal despite our loss. It is one I would not only use myself should the time arise, but one that I would readily purchase for a friend in need as well. It is a book that is worth reading and worth using as well.

Gloria Lintermans tells her story of losing her deeply beloved husband and dealing with the inevitably intense feelings of grief and loneliness that come with losing a spouse. By sharing her own very personal journey, she helps readers who have experienced similar loss to go on to lead fulfilled lives, and for this she is to be applauded.

My wife passed away almost nineteen years ago. She was 42. I was 45. There are no words to describe the pain, devastation, and despair of such a loss. Friends urged me to attend a grief support group. There were seveal available in my area. I chose the H.O.P.E. Foundation, run by a Dr. Marilyn Stolzman. It was this program that helped me get my life together. It did not eliminate the pain and devastation, but it made it a little bit easier to cope. Today, Dr. Stolzman, in collaboration with Gloria Lintermans, has written a book, The Healing Power of Grief. I strongly urge those who have suffered a recent loss to read this book. It lays down in easy to follow steps everything that was part of the original program. The program made life a little more bearable for me. Hopefully the book will do the same for others.

The Healing Power of Grief and The Healing Power of Love don't just help you recover from the loss of a loved one, but show you how to go on from there to find new love. Unlike some other books, which may be written in an academic style or expect you to subscribe to a certain faith, these books are written in an understandable language and have practical tools you can use on your own to help you through this difficult period in your life. I particularly liked the positive, affirming manner in which they're written. The authors don't preach to you or commiserate. As you work through the program, you'll gain a better understanding of what's going on inside you and become better each day at dealing with it. Reading about how others have handled similar losses makes you feel less alone. I recommend these books to anyone who is experiencing grief, not just after a loved one has died, but also after the break-up of a relationship.

In my opinion, this book is not nearly as good as the companion book, "The Healing Power of Grief". It tells the story of 12 couples who found love after the death of a spouse, but I don't feel that the information contained in these stories would be that helpful to a widow or widower since everyone's situation is so different. Most of the couples in the book are living together and don't seem motivated to marry and that was a disappointment to me. There are times when I was reading about the physical intimacy between the couples that I wanted to shout "Too much information". The book seems to imply that the only way to recover from the death of a spouse is to begin a relationship with someone else and I believe that to be patently false. I do recommend the companion book, "The Healing Power of Grief" which includes a lot of solid information and advice.

One of the many steps to recovery after the death of a spouse is recognizing some of the positives the future may hold. For some, this may include the possibility of one day forming a new love relationship. This book takes the reader through twelve real-life stories of people who did just that. Each story includes the perspectives of the two partners and that of the authors, and deals with issues of fear, accommodating ongoing love and grief for the deceased spouse, creating a working format for a new relationship, and coming to enjoy a new phase of life. There's no panacea for the pain of losing a spouse, but perhaps the most important message in this book is that, when it becomes possible again, it's wise to live in the present and to be open to new sources of fulfillment.

Co-authored by Gloria Lintermans and Marilyn Stolzman, The Healing Power Of Love: Transcending The Loss Of A Spouse To New Love is a sensitive guide through difficulties often associated with losing one love and eventually gaining another. Deftly compiling twelve inspirational stories about new and loving relationships following the loss of a beloved spouse or partner, The Healing Power Of Love provides readers with the power of transition and a gentle guidance to finding and fully loving another as illustrated by heartwarming intimacy, situational assessment, and life-affirming truths helping to realize our emotional self-fulfillment. The Healing Power Of Love is very strongly recommended for its intimate and exemplary stories illustrating how a new love can heal the painful loss of an old one. Also very highly recommended from Gloria Lintermans and Marilyn Stolzman is The Healing Power Of Grief (1932783-482, $16.00, Champion Press).

Through the effective use of a she said/he said format, Lintermans and Stolzman provide anecdotal evidence that there is life after the death of a spouse or life partner. They investigate the connection and rebirth of twelve couples, each of whom had gone through the loss of a spouse or life partner, and show how each person found their way back to life and healing through the power of new love.

"The Healing Power of Love" was written to help widows and widowers to move on from their grief into whole, loving relationships. The book is written in a way that imparts warmth and compassion. Each chapter is written about a couple and how either one or both of them transcended the loss of a spouse and entered into the new relationship. In some cases, the couples already knew each other and in others they met after the losses. Each person in the relationship tells their stories from their points of view. For the most part, each partner tells what it is like to transcend the devastating grief that comes with losing a spouse of many years. In other parts, the new spouse tells what it is like to marry into a family and have to learn to be accepted by the children; even if they are adults, it is not easy. Both offer advice on how to cope. Then the counselor reflects on the couple as a whole and writes about the advice that is offered.
Many couples also discuss issues with sex. For the spouses who had spent more than half their life with one person, it is not easy to be intimate in this way with another person. It seems like the couples that openly discussed their fears and concerns were able to overcome their concerns easier. I really appreciated that the people who shared their stories were so open about discussing this issue. For many people who are uncomfortable about discussing sex with others, this is a great place to learn about other people's experiences. It is a very personal, yet important issue because your sexuality and need for intimacy does not die with your spouse.
Bereavement support groups were also beneficial for many. For some people, it was a way to connect with others and be able to share the devastating grief that you go through when you have lost someone. It is also important to allow yourself time to grieve and to heal. Some people mentioned in the book tried to start dating before they were ready. It is okay to take time to heal. Some of the people who shared their stories acknowledged that they still continued to grieve for their spouses after the new relationships started. Having a new love helped them with their healing.
This is an incredibly powerful book for helping someone who has lost a spouse to move on. If you have lost a spouse and are at the point where you would like to start dating again, this is the book for you. It will fill you with hope that there can be another healthy relationship for you. One of the common themes that I saw mentioned by many of the widowed people was that they had to get over feeling guilty about moving on. They discovered that having a new love did not take away from the love of their deceased.
I highly recommend "The Healing Power of Love" to people who have been widowed. I think that the adult children of widowed parents should also read this book to gain perspective on what their parent is going through. It also would be a great book to discuss in bereavement support groups.

My friend Ben, thank you so much for this wonderful tool to take on my journey. It has been a blessing to read with my six year old grandaughter, she is reading some and she noticed tonight that Melissa was not gray toward the end of the book, she understands what she was going thru. All three of the books have been a wonder addition to our
home.
I just purchased a set as a gift for someone who is going into private practice and I think this would be a wonder addition to his library.

This is the third book we've bought in the Express Yourself series and we continue to be blown away by how fantastic these books are in helping people work through all of the feelings that come upon us during times of loss and death. We have shared all of them with friends who have experienced the grieving process and I would agree with other reviews that they are helpful for children and adults alike. The artistry and imagery really bring the stories to life. What a well done series!!

School Administrators: As a retired school administrator I highly recommend this book as being an appropriate selection for your school's resource center. The manifestation of grief often comes unexpectedly. This would be a wonderful resource book to have on hand to share with a student who needs reassurance that the feelings they are experiencing are 'normal'. The book is also an appropriate selection for adults.
If you are wishing to express your appreciation to a teacher, administrator, or school, this would be an appropriate end-of-the-school-year gift.

My nine year old daughter has had to learn first hand how it feels to lose a sister. She has read "Incredibly Lonley, That's Me" and has shared the book with her friends, probably in hopes that they will understand how she feels about the loss of her loved one. We have had open and honest discussions about her feelings and how she understands some of the feelings that the girl in the story talks about. I would recommend this book to be read and shared with children who have experienced a significant loss.

I found this book to have valuable insights into some ways that friends and acquaintances can show their love and support to parents who have lost a child. It's sometimes hard to know what to say or do when we want so much to show that we really care. Cathy and Frank James tell readers some of the things that friends did that gave them comfort as they share their very personal story of grief and unimaginable loss. It's been several months since I read this book but those things have stayed with me. I'm thankful that they had the courage to share their story.

As the older brother of an 18 year old fatal automobile accident victim several years ago, I was interested in reading about how another family in a similar situation dealt with this type of grief. The authors had an interesting method of delivering their message and sharing their feelings. Instead of telling a fluid, chronological story, they opted to share their perspectives by writing their own sections in alternating fashion. Most of the book focuses on the life of their daughter as opposed to the grief they felt after losing her, keeping the tone as uplifting as possible. I wish them well in their ongoing recovery.

Cathy and Frank James are good friends of mine. I watched their son and daughter grow up and was privileged to share with them their children's accomplishments.
Unfortunately, the price of friendship came due all too soon when their daughter was taken tragically in her youth. If I had the benefit of reading such a book at the time of her death, I, in a small way, would have been better able to help them. I now see that by their writing of this, they want to, as much as is humanly possible, to help others who have such a tragedy befall them - truly one of the most Christian acts I've witnessed in my lifetime as they lay bare their very souls attempting to do so.
I'm far from being a religious man but, this being said, I see that a force larger than them moved them to write this book.

I was fortunate enough to meet Frank & Cathy at a national TCF (The Compassionate Friends) conference and they told me that they had written a book about their daughter. I feel this is a great book for almost any breaved parent. Although you do not need to be a Christian to appreciate their story, that would only make it better for you. No one can tell the story of loss and extreme grief better than a breaved parent. Very moving story with some very good ideas on how to cope with the loss of a child. (Personal opinion, not an indorsement by TCF)

I was moved to buy his story of this debilitating disease that has stolen his life and career. It is very much worth reading, and i applause Dr. Grabys for his honesty and willingness to share with everyone how this devastating disease has affected his life.

First hand information and experiences are far above all the doctors input and other books. Thanks to Dr.Graboys for taking the time to help others while in the midst of his own debilitation.

This story parallels my own experience with Parkinson's Disease in several ways. My journey with PD began about the same time as the author's. In addition, we are the same age. I appreciated his candor and honesty in expressing his thoughts and feelings about the disease. I intend to use several portions he wrote to communicate my feelings to my own family. Often it is difficult to express myself in ways that they can understand. I feel fortunate not to have Lewy Body Disease as well as PD. His life is much more challenging than mine because of that factor.I am also thankful that my faith in God assures me of my final destination in heaven where there will be no more disease or pain. The author is a top cardiologist, famed in the medical field. Suddenly he finds himself displaying symptoms of an unknown disease. Like many of us, his first step is denial. When he starts exhibiting a worsening of his symptoms, he can no longer ignore the disease. For those not in the profession, this is an eye-opener. Somehow, we feel that doctors are super-humans. This story shows us the opposite. Parkinson's is progressive and unrelenting; knowing how it will end us heartbreaking. Having this man write about it reveals the depths of his personality and soul. I recommend this book to all; none of us is immune to death!

This is a delightful and uplifting book about the author's beautiful dog, Bunny, who suffered from Addison's disease but was very loved. The author shares lessons she learned from her special dog and matches them up with wise sayings or scripture. Each chapter is a new lesson and is followed by cute advice from Bunny as well as some checklists to help the reader apply the lesson (which I plan to go back and review). It's a cool book. Helpful information about Addison's disease and general dog care is given in Appendix 1 and 2 at the end of the book.

Sofia Steryo-Bartmus' "Paws of Wisdom" is both witty and sentimental as she explores not only the bond between pet and master, but the silent wisdom which can be attained from our pets if we dare to pay attention. Sofia's dog and main character, Bunny overcomes many health obstacles, and is still able to maintain her childish curiosity and zest for life, in addition to her compassion. It is clear that this unlikely hero of a dog is dearly loved. Bunny's impact on her masters is too obvious to be overlooked.
This book is meant to be read slowly in order to truly appreciate what we can learn from other creatures if we take a moment to stop and see our lives through the clarity which comes from a pure heart.

I don't have any pets. Except for a gorilla--George--who is cuddly and stuffed. So I read Sofia's book with a bit of trepidation. But I've got to tell you, this is a book you'll fall in love with. And you'll fall in love with Bunny, too. After the first chapter I wanted to know more about Bunny. As I read the book, I felt I knew her. She became part of my family. The book is almost like a daily devotional. The chapters are short and to the point, each of them pointing out a challenge or word of inspiration we can use for that day--opportunities, empathy, consistency, forgiveness, fear, laughter, patience, listening, loving. Sofia has written her book from her point of view, looking at the world through the eyes of her pet. It's a great reminder how therapeutic a pet can be and how a pet can forge strong bonds of affection and wisdom with us humans. Even for a non-pet person, I found this a good book to curl up with and learn from.

An immensely enjoyable book w/ wonderful quotes & thought provoking wisdom from Bunny.
