A narrowed environmental focus on forest bats

BATS IN FORESTS: CONSERVATION AND MANAGEMENT is a pick for any college-level library strong in natural history and conservation
issues and offers a narrowed environmental focus on forest bats. Bats in caves are the common focus, but more than half of
bat species in North America depend upon and uses forests for roosting, so forest health is essential to bat conservation,
and this in-depth coverage of both will prove a key reference for any collection strong in ecology issues in general and bat
conservation in particular.

a British readers, others will find much they can use.

Bats of Florida is the book I have been looking for. The general discussion on bats is the best I have ever read. It covers
the latest science in a balanced and easily readable style. Much of the information should be useful to anyone interested
in bats. The species discussions of the bats found in Florida are the most up to date and complete information available.

I have found this book very useful both in the field and in the museum. It represents an excellent feat of practical scholarship
by Bonaccorso, with good keys, locality information (with maps), reference to specific museum specimens, and external measurements
for all species from PNG, including the provinces in the Bismarcks and northern Solomons. It is not only a terrific synthesis
of what is known of bat biology in the country, but also offers a large store of new information. Also extremely handy are
the comprehensive gazetteer at the end with lat/long coordinates and the good bibliography. Fiona Reid's excellent color
illustrations round out the guide.

Enhanced with both color photographs and drawings, as well as b/w sketches and illustrations, Peter Taylor's Bats Of Southern
Africa showcases 78 species of bats native to southern Africa. The reader is provided with clear descriptions and accurate
diagnostic features, as well as a wealth of information on the bat's habitat, social and roosting habits, diet, reproduction,
echolocation call, distribution, and conservation status. A superb introduction and reference, Bats Of Southern Africa is
a welcome and highly recommended addition to wildlife reference collections in general, and the Bat in particular.

This book has lots of great information about bats. It includes details on several species of bats of the USA. The back
pages list other books about bats and the contact information for the Bat Conservation International group & the US Fish &
Wildlife services. A great book for a bat lover. The extra information allows a bat devotee to dig further to learn more
and more.

The Marching Bat Band parades down the Grand Promenade to the tune of "Stars and Stripes." From two times two to ten times
ten, the bats demonstrate multiplication. This book has 385 bats strutting their stuff and is a great follow up to Bat Jamboree
by the same author and illustrator. Full of colorful, active illustrations with the right number of bats on each page (to
help in counting), this is a wonderful book.

Virus-infected bats are in a laboratory being experimented on. But, after an arguement between a lecherous doctor and his
cheated girlfriend, the glass of their tank is broken and they escape into the city.
An excellent story with all the strong characters, genuine suspence, well-thought-out writing and touches of humour that make Guy N.Smith books a must.

I purchased this book for my first grade classroom. We do a unit of study on the elements of a non-fiction text. The Time
for Kids books are wonderful for this unit. They have terrific pictures (which the kids love), and many elements of a non-fiction
text, such as labeling, comparisions, captions, glossary, types of print, etc. I would highly recommend this book - really
all of the time for kids books - to those looking for appropriate non-fiction books for a first grade classroom. The level
1 and 2 books are most appropriate.
