This no-holds-barred expose from the roaring twenties was written by a family court judge from Colorado, back when Americans first started facing up to the consequences of young people carrying on in the rumble seats of their roadsters ... Judge Lindsey's commentary covers the problems of financial support for unwed mothers, the unavoidability of sexual awakening in young people, his approach to avoiding sexual harassment charges, and much more. This book is more relevant than ever-- I suspect it's been forgotten because it it was too darn frank for grandma to discuss with us young folks!

Jordan Shane - he lives in Florida where he has his computer chip company. He comes to Aspen to ask his estranged wife for a divorce. She agrees. Then he wakes up to icy quiet in her mansion to find her dead. He hates the Colorado cold.
Of course, the police don't look any closer than him for the killer and he is in chains waiting to be transported to a new venue. Ah but Deputy Frank Kreiger takes his chains off. Opportunity presents itself and Jordan takes off with only a small wound.

Emily Foster - has moved from the ER in Denver to the small town of Cascadia. She wants the solitude and peace of the Colorado mountains where she works for Search and Rescue along with Dr. Spence Cannon. Her peace and quiet is invaded by a wounded man who decides to take her with him into the mountains. Oh yes, they take Pookie, a golden retriever, Emily's pup in training. Pookie has no trouble making up to Jordan.

Lynette Afton-Shane - is a jet-setter and owner of two ski lodges and darnd rich. Who would want her dead?
Brian Afton, her half brother inherits the bulk of her estates when she dies.

Sean Madigan - A professional skier lives in Lynette's guest house as they were having a very torrid affair. Nasty temper!

Deputy Ed Collins - he is tracking the trail that Emily leaves and tries to ambush them from Mammoth Rock only to be distracted by Emily's shout and Jordan escapes. Now Emily must take care of the deputy. Does he think he is a sniper?

Ah, the hunt is on and it keeps getting better. Jordan shows some real ability in hot-wiring cars and keeping one step ahead of the law.
But he has to involve Dr. Cannon along with Emily and finally gets their help.

Great characters - great plot - excellent pace - intrigue, suspense, romance.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED --m -- a duo worth keeping -- #2 is WEDDING CAPTIVES, where we get Dr. Spence Cannon's story.

This is a great book. I spent two years bumming in Steamboat and this book brings back many happy memories. It goes into great detail about the founders and development of the ski area in the 60's. Local legends are profiled and sidebars include photos and stories about cowboys and ski bums. The photos are breathtaking and the writing is evocative and reverential. The book seems to focus on the 60's-80's era of development, but if you're looking for an enjoyable reminder of your visit to the Boat, this book is well worth it and will look great on your coffee table.

This is an excellent book ! The work and results are very important not just for Mayanists, for whom it is revolutionary, but also for the rest of us archaeologists who consistently fail to think of anything other than surface sites and anything related to ritual locations. There is a section of papers dealing with the burials and sacrifices. One highlight in a stellar collection is the chapter by Brady on the economic importance of producing goods for cave rituals. You'll want to read the companion volume as well: In the Maw of the Earth Lord.

Susan Goodman is a very creative lady. The way she writes about the long journey of the Hannibal Leap kids is very realistic. When I read this book, I felt like I was on the journey with the children.

If you're looking for a "names and dates" academic history, don't buy this book. But if you'd like to be treated to some very weird events from the past, then you should find this book chock full of entertainment value. I went looking for the book when the book editor guy from the Boulder Daily Camera wrote something about it being "...the perfect bathroom book." It's true-- The stories, over 100 of 'em, are short and come with surprise endings. And there were nearly as many companion pen & ink drawings, which for me gave the book a magical feel.

What I especially loved and vital about this map was downtown Denver which is a triangle. I never have had this good of a map of downtown.
Downtown is very difficult if you do not travel downtown much.
It's just Denver and easy to read and find your way. It has a limited overview of Boulder and the general Denver area. I found areas on it listed that I have not found on other maps. It consise, small, laminated and excellent if just focused on Denver. Excellent map. An anyone's map who travels in Denver or even lives there and still gets lost I do.
And again, for visitors to Denver, I strongly recommend it, as well.

This map, like all the skyterrain maps I've seen, is simply outstanding. It *so* clearly presents the big picture for roads and overall terrain, as well as the "important details" on topography, hiking trails, and water-ways. And the map is amazingly readable - even for those of us in our forties with failing near vision. Extras include various charts, overhead views and selected trail details. The waterproof material is quite handy too. No CO mountain hiker should be without one.

I really liked this story. The author did an incredible job developing the characters. The main chaacter is an ex-military sniper and is now a deputy sheriff who must track down another sniper in a small Colorado town. The mystery keeps you guessing and is loaded with western flair and sniper strategy. I just bought the author's second book to see if I like it as well.
