The Knowledge of the Holy, a Must Read for Every Christian

The Knowledge of the Holy by Tozer is a must read for every Christian. He seems to see into the heart of God and knows, as we all should, that God wants us to know Him and in knowing Him worship and serve Him. The book has short chapters each on something "True about God" and the essential first chapters explain why we need to think rightly about God, anything short is idolatry. As I said, the book is essential reading with an open Bible next to it for all Christians, young and old.

This is a book about the attributes of God. Tozer does an outstanding job of pointing us to God by recalling those things which the Bible says are true of God Almighty.
A few ideas Tozer repeats throughout the book. These ideas are:
1) Modern man has lost the vision of the majesty of our God, and the first step to aquiring it is to determine to "Aquaint ourselves with God".
2) In attempting to see God the way that He truly is, we must believe in order that we may understand, not the other way around.
3) That God is unitary in His being and that all of His attributes work together perfectly without conflict with each other. Also, since God is infinite then all of His attributes are infinite as well.
I read a chapter from this book daily, and my hunger for His presence has certainly increased as a result. This book has helped me to see how futile I am in myself and how pride and worldliness are my biggest hinderences to drawing near to the Lord. This book will help you to see that nothing else in life really matters in comparison to our Almighty God.

AW Tozer is the best at anthropomorshism, which is the abilit to explain the unexplainable in terms understandable. This concept is almost beyond reason but after reading "The Knowlege of the Holy" I have experienced it.
This is the best book for those wanting to better understand God. It's also perfect for those who are struggling with their spiritual life. Tozer' gift is the ability to explain God's attributes in very simple terms.
It's a timeless book. I keep several copies on hand and use them for spontaneous gifts.

some have marked Tozer as a writer and theologian who took a rather "mystical" look at God and the things of God, but this book's beautiful prose serves not to mystify God but to make Him more understandable to the human mind. It helped me in seeing what it meant that He is lovely.

I have been keeping a marine tank for less than 1 year. I got tired of just using the internet for all my knowledge-base of marine aquariums; spending many hours digging through all the forums for whatever current problem/issue i had, reading so many conflicting opinions and answers from 'experts', and often ending up at least as confused as when i began.
So I bought this book, read it, and feel much better equipped for the hobby. I still refer heavily to internet sources for more granular knowledge, but at least I now have a solid, reliable source for a foundation on which to build.
This book gave me more confidence, and left me eager to learn and do more in this hobby. It is beautifully illustrated, well composed, and the author conveys his own passion of the hobby and eagerness to educate responsible marine hobbyists.

This book provides a great overview of the hobby. This is really where most people should start off reading in the hobby to determine if they're going to create a reef in their living room. Perhaps some should start with Paletta's The New Marine Aquarium first as a quick 1 day read, but really those who plan on enjoying the hobby would be well served by skipping the superbasic and getting into this book. That's not to say this is the only book you'll ever need - but this is enough book for most people to be quite content with. (For those of you who are 'bitten' by the hobby, The Reef Aquarium series by Delbeek & Sprung is an excellent resource, but there are others.) Enjoy,

I have used this book for years. I found it easy enough to read and help me through my first few years of dealing with marine tanks. And unlike a lot of my books from the beginning this one did have enough "meat" in it to still be relevant as I progressed through the hobby. Overall the content is great and it covers the gambit of marine life. On a different note, the paper and print is of a really great quality as well. This book takes a lot of use and abuse at my house and it really is still in suprisingly good condition. I only mentions this because some of the "cheaper" aquarium books I have picked up throught the years are all falling to pieces. Hope this helped!

...the sweeter the juice! T.Styles pens a tale that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. This book was a quick, action packed, page turning read. It tells the story of four friends and their trials and tribulations. Will they remain friends? Will they turn on each other as they go thru growing pains? Will the lessons that life teach them allow them to see the growth that is evident of the lesson? Or will it all be for naught? Take this trot with the friends who may or may not learn that you reap what you sow!

Helaine and Score travel to the nightmare planet of Zarathan, in search of their kidnapped friend Pixel. It's a place where a person's nightmares and fears become reality, and to fall asleep means certain death. John Peel adds some new twists into this installment in the Diadem series by adding some elements of horror with a little science fiction thrown in. Very well done.

This whole series was a hit, it kept me reading and since it abruptly ends at this book (#6) I've been reading the 6 books over and over again, hoping for a change in heart by the author and a real ending, mind you that not rushing an ending in one book would be nice. Yes it is good for us, the readers, to use our imaginations a bit, but this was a complete cliff-hanger. The imagination/creativity is breath taking, never a cheezy moment. Mainly this book takes the story more towards an fantasy/horror story plot. Pixel is in trouble and of course Score/matt and renald/heliene jump right in to save him.... there seems to be little chance for sucsess.... what will happen?

The Diadem series has been my favorite book since I was ten years old. I am now fifteen and still remember almost every little detail. To bad he finished the series so abruptly, right?
Then again, he didn't. John Peel has written the seventh book and is still working on book eight. The only reason why the series is not sold in stores is because the publishing companies refuse to publish the new books, saying that it did not sell well enough to make more, and they discontinued the already published ones.
I found a website that has a petition that you can sign to put the books back on the market as well as the seventh and eighth. The site is:

Eleanor Payson has written a groundbreaking book on the dynamic, dysfunctional dance of codependency and narcissism. The information in this book has helped me reclaim myself and also start the process of going much deeper in healing my wounded child. I would highly recommend this book to anyone questioning their relationship with family, spouse, friends, boss, therapist, medical professional, etc...

I am a little over halfway through this book but I cannot believe how squarely the author has hit the nail on the head with this book. It's like looking in a mirror when I read through the scenarios, thoughts, feelings, and actions. I feel like someone wrote this book about me, only they've never met me. I hope to use this book to become less co-dependent and work through my relationship with a narcissistic husband.

I bought this book with a friend in mind. While I enjoyed the book, it was a life-changing read for her. Wow! This book is succinctly written and well organized. I found more information in it than in the last two books I read on the subject. I read it once straight through, and then a second time making many notes in the margins and highlighting passages to refer to again later. I found it very, very helpful in helping me to understand -- and cope -- with the narcissists in my life. I have sent copies to several friends and family members.

This book is new, but I already have it heavily dog eared and highlighted and underlined. ( yes, I deface my books) SO many books have been written on the topic of dealing with the NPD person in your life, but somehow this one delves the deepest, in my opinion. makes me sigh with relief that I am not crazy.....that I have had a longterm largely destructive relationship with a man whom I could NOT figure out from day to day until I started reading books like this one. I highly recommend it. VERY well written, on a painful and easily misunderstood topic.

Those familiar with this series already know that this book will be an outstanding research tool for radio stations and music collectors. The 8th Edition, written by Joel Whitburn, is another "must have" for anyone serious about music chart performance. Joel's reputation for compiling and publishing chart data in an interesting and useful format is well recognized, and this edition covers the entire time span of 1955-2003. Whitburn's books can get so much use as valuable reference tools, that it's easy to wear out the binders. Can't wait for the 9th edition!

I highly recommend this book. Very helpful, especially for those parents that fail to be consistent and "go with the flow", failing to create strong rules and a loving, solid discipline.
This books acts a self-confidence booster for parents, offers very empathetic advice when it comes to parental anger, and actually gives very practical tips and hints to deal with misbehavior.
I love the humor and the bright, positive thinking that fills up the book, and I really appreciate the fact that Pantley also addresses other side issues like marriage skills and parental self-esteem.

I rather find that she comes across as "a good friend in the same boat". It works fine to read just a little at a time of this book if you are a busy parent with little time to spare for reading. I actually found myself reading it as slow as I could because I wanted it to last, and I would give myself a few days of reading other books between each chapter to reflect on what I'd learned before I moved on to the next part. I will most certainly refer to it again later.
I am a mother of three children and have used this with my 1st grader and my toddler/preschooler. And as the baby gets into toddlerhood I am sure that I will continue to use the advice from this book with all three.

Useful and entertaining stats books are hard to come by but this one has hit the mark! Comprehensive and clear explanations of statistical theory are provided as well as of SPSS output. Love the examples and icons. Who would have thought a stats text could make me laugh out loud?!

dr. field has done an excellent job of making stats understandable and spss user friendly. as a social psychology grad student, i enjoy the ease of use found with the index. if i forget the differences in rotation methods for factor analysis, i can quickly find clear explanations in the book. i suggest to all grad students and advanced undergrads using spss to get a copy of this text!
A super useful book for me!

When I study my MBA classes, this book helps me a lot. The book provides essential review of all Statistic knowledge in the beginning of each chaper, and then lead readers use SPSS step by step.
Especially the practical examples and funny illustration, I will say the book is the only one interesting and powerful Statistic book I can find. I highly recommand it for readers work for Marketing, Medical , Engineering , Finance, and MBA classes. The book can lead you to resolve many "real" problems.

This book contains very comprehensive explanations and descriptions with practical examples which are sometimes not so familiar with me (I'm a physician.). overall, this is an excellent book and I regret not being able to meet such a book in a way more focussing on medical fields. But this has a critical shortcoming in book-binding. you should not read this book so many times to keep the original shape. that's a reason why I gave 4 stars.

I love this book. It covers everything from the most basic t-tests and ANOVAs to factor analysis. It tells you the basics of what the test is meant to do, what sort of data is appropriate for it and it tells you how to actually run and read the test in SPSS.
It isn't the best book for someone who wants a detailed explaination of how to calculate a statistical test by hand and it doesn't give extensive detail on the assummptions required for each test. Nonetheless, it's a great quick reference book, particularly if you've already had a statistics course and you just need a refresher. Graduate students will find it useful.

I just ordered the book, but have spent the last couple of days reading everything I can on his website. I know a lot of what is on his website is in the book, and just even what is on his website deserves 5 stars.
I have been in severe depresson for 4 days from another 'denigrating incident' with my abuser. He just feels a need to bring me down when I am doing well. So much of what I have read is exactly (what) I am living with, only I think my husband is a psychopath as well as a narcissist. Just reading Vaknins writings, and having some understanding of the N disorder gives me some hope of coping. I have been in this for 32 years. As soon as we got married he showed his true colors, and 2 weeks later I asked for a divorce, cause I knew there was 'no hope'. His answer was to lock me in the house, remove the phone, disable my car, and put all the money in an account in his name only. After 8 months he felt he 'broke me' so I got some freedoms, but after he beat me in the stomach and caused me to lose my baby (for objecting to his 'messing' with my friend, who he had allowed me to see for the first time since we married) - well, after that I 'was' broken, and from then on my health went downhill fast. What really destroyed me was the hopelessness of not being able to get out. Things got much worse. He has, at times killed my pets, and done every vile thing you could possibly think of, and then some. He cost me my daughter, cause when she excaped she never looked back. He cost me my mental health, and by the time I was 37 I was in heart failure from the long term, severe stress. According to the doctors I only have a few years to live, if that. I feel he took my whole life from me; he took my soul, and over the years I have become much like him: I am full of anger, I no longer trust anyone (cause people react negatively to me because I am often moody and overwhelmed emotionally by what I am going through, and, because all these years he has smeared my name in the community to gain sympathy and attention for himself)(abuse by proxy). I now have a hair trigger to criticism, and easily feel rage. My spirit often feels dead, and I am just plain wore out and exhausted from dealing with this. I still see 'no way out'.
I have used Vaknins website to give me some ideas, and hope, for this situation. I am setting firm boundaries and consequences. I hope through the book I can learn to get more of my life back. All I can say to others is, "if you can get out, run as fast as you can", cause if you don't get out they will destroy you. I know a couple other women in town who have been in long term marriages to guys like this. One seems to have survived quite well, but she is 'very shut down - emotionless'. The other became a total recluse, and is dying of cancer. I also knew one other, but she died in her 40's from cancer. She was glad to die. Her spirit died long before her. I don't want that for myself. I want to let go of the feelings that my abuser has (poisoned) me with, and I want to, once again, find joy in however long I have left to live.
I researched a lot of books on Narcissism before I chose Vatkins. Compared to Vatkins all the others seemed like "just skimming the surface".

and i consider my little world to be my garden. if i've pulled you up like a weed, thrown you in the discards and you can't get your mind around the fact that you're a weed, and devastated that you couldn't play me like you play everyone else then this book will give you the rationalization that you require.
i highly recommend it.

This book is the equivelent to earning a doctorate in Narcissim.
Vakin is brilliant, and the book is written in such a way, you learn the concepts, I mean really know them. Very few people can teach, Vakin is in that select minority. He just states the facts, and mindset of the Narcissis in every conceavable presentation. By the middle of the book, you get the answer N's live to make you hurt, and miserable, they think it's funny when you are in pain. Noone could read this book without a life changing epiphany. Thankfully by the end you know your N has pulled your dress over your head, in private and public, he is sadistically gleeful and you can no longer live in the illussion that a relationship could work. Bravo

this book,I found fascinating, the book is"it"as far as this disorder, and many people, after reading it,in retrospect, will definately have the"eureka"moment and start to see things"as they are"and better be able to understand the behaviour of the narcissist, and the narcissist themselves, self awareness.
The book equips the reader with manyy useful"tools"and a lot of enlightenment,as regards dealing with self/other,bringing true understanding of such perceptual "distortions"the book,I found a fascinating read, that left no stone unturned, the Authour (obviously) an authority on this!

This book helped me understand a number of incidents in my life in which I'd been mistreated by others and led to believe the problem was with me. It was affirming simply to know that I wasn't confused, but abused. It sounds like sour grapes, but I even found myself grateful for the ones who got away, who I suspect didn't find a wiseass like me to be codependent material.
The one criticism I'd have of the book is that in my experience narcissism may be more common among women than the author suggests. I've known a number of women who've been diagnosed as depressed or obsessive-compulsive who exhibited "queen bee" personalities around other women. Because narcissistic traits are less culturally acceptable in women, I suspect female narcissists are better at concealing them.
Having experienced abusive behavior in my dealings with a few fundamentalist Christians, I especially appreciate the author's coverage of narcissism in the context of religion. Not only can religious leaders be narcissists, but I think there's a codependency that seems prevalent in members of abusive churches. It really is contagious.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Had never heard of the author until I saw him on the Glenn Beck TV program. I liked the testimony he had, so I decided to read this book, along with "The Gift" and "The Christmas Box". They were all well written and enjoyable to read.

Reading Finding Noel is truly a gift. The stories give one a sense of pleasure as well as serenity. This is the tenth book of Richard Paul Evan's literature that I have read. I look forward to reading The Gift next. My husband used to give me Evan's new book each year for Christmas. After his death, I sort of forgot about getting one as a gift. Recently, I went and purchased Finding Noel and The Gift to add to my collection. The covers are exquisite and the paper with the ragged edge makes it a reminder of past days. These books would make a wonderful gift for a birthday, Hannukkah or for Christmas or even for no reason at all. I highly recommend them.

The irony of fictional writing is that it works best when it comes from a real place. According to author Richard Paul Evans, the background story of his novel "Finding Noel," is drawn from the real-life story of Celeste Edmunds, a woman with whom he used to work.
As with his previous books, this is a personal work for Evans; he uses family names, origins, religion, illness and little slice-of-life things like recipes, traditions and tips to give a homey feel to his characters and story.
"Finding Noel" is also the first book of fiction that features a character diagnosed with eye cancer. Through the character Joette, Evans exposes millions of readers to this rare disease - only 2,000 adults are diagnosed each year - in a way that mainstream media and the inaccessible medical literature have not. For that alone, Evans and his fictional work are the real deal.

I came across this book after doing a search on choriadal melanoma. My dad was diagnosed 5 days before Christmas. I am happy to say he was treated with Radioactive Plaque Therapy in NYC just this past week and the doctor tells us the tumor is dead - gone!! I believe I will have to wait a while until my emotions settle a bit to read it though!

It is short and still covers many attributes of God.
What's so good about this book, is authors ability to give comprehensive and interconnected view of divine attributes; to show how they are connected and do not oppose each other.
I would recommend this book for everybody.
It's easy to read and will cause you to rethink your relationship with God for better.
