This book gave me a mixture of the shivers and hope. Love is, after all, a fickle thing at best. But this eloquently told story of "twin souls" finding each other under the challenging eye of reality, kept me glued. Vigil is a talented weaver of the heart and disturbingly, of the dark. HIGHLY RECOMMENED.

Attention holding, suspense novel, a great book!!!

I just recently read this book. It is very well written. The story flowed all the way to the end.
I was very impressed the way the book kept me interested all the way though. I just couldn't put it down. I learned a lot about obsession and how it can consume you and send your life into a downward spiral. Plus how it can effect other peoples lives. Great reading I highly recommend it.

Sarah- caught my attention when she reviewed my own memoir Forbidden Love With a Married Man; E-Mail Diaries, which prompted me to support my fellow author friends. The Divine Plan led me on a journey through the unspoiled reaches of my subconscious and imagination to provide much insight into our twin soul. This is a novel I highly recommend for anyone who is interested in understanding destiny.

The Divine Plan: A Novel of Obsession is a dark, suspenseful about the ramifications of possessing too much knowledge about one's "twin soul." A man who has searched his whole life for his twin soul finds his other half in an unfulfilling yet comfortable marriage. As her tenuous marriage erodes, he struggles to push her onto a path that reunites their destiny and let go of everything she strives to keep. Yet too much pressure can have brutal consequences upon one caught in the middle, and The Divine Plan reveals that free will and the joy of life are among the first ready casualties when plagued with too much foreknowledge about one's supposed destiny. Highly recommended.

First, this book is beautiful to look at... great photos, full of colours, very Caribbean.
Then the recipes are very appealing and mouth watering and they don't come accross as too difficult to execute.
And most off all, so far all the recipes I have tried turned out to taste great and also look good.
I live in the Caribbean and the recipes in that book really seem to represent the islands.
The best cookery book I have bought in a long time.

As an Executive Chef who specializes in Caribbean Style product development I found it very refreshing to see such a wonderful example of a Caribbean Cookbook. I found the recipes to be clear, easy to follow and in some respects very creative. The photography is truly stunning and for once doesn't focus on sandy beaches and palm trees. The only thing I would like to have seen were some more modern recipes, maybe next time Virginia.

I went through my cookbooks, to see if I could weed some out, because I have too many to mention. It's hard getting rid of a cookbook, especially one with a few recipes in it that you've come to love. But I've scanned the recipes I need to keep forever into my MacBook. However, there were an even dozen I couldn't part with. These are books I turn to time and time again, even though I consider myself somewhat of a gourmet chef.

Ms. Burke's EAT CARIBBEAN is, in my opinion, absolutely indispensable. Her Jerk Chicken is delicious, and coming from me, someone who's had her own recipe for Jerk Chicken published, that is really saying something. You won't go wrong with this book. Ms. Burke is the marketing director for Walkerswood Caribbean Foods and they're the people who make the jerk seasoning that I, and so many others use, so it's not surprising that she really knows her stuff and if you get ahold of this book, you'll be cooking like you do to.

I actually stubbled across this book at the Sangster Airport in Montego Bay Jamaica. After reading about Virginia Burke at the back of the book I realized that she also grew up in the same district as I did in Walkerswood JA. Now that I have a personal connection to this book I was more than eager to begin to try some of the recipes.

The recipes are easy to follow and came out great. This is saying a lot for me since I just started cooking on a regular basis a year ago. What will instantly catch your eye about this book are the vibrant colors and the accruacy of the photos used.

I highly recommend this book for anyone who is either a novice or pro in the kitchen, or for anyone interested in trying their hand at cooking Carribean cuisine.

The colorful cover caught my eye, but it's the creative and easy-to-prepare recipes inside that keep me coming back to this book regularly. This cookbook goes way beyond jerk, or adding a little pineapple or coconut to a dish. Author Virginia Burke is true to the cultural origins of dishes and the recipes are presented in an easy-to-understand and unpretentious manner. To my surprise, finding the ingredients in the U.S. has been quite managable. I have seen this author on TV once, and think she deserves a cooking show of her own. How fun it would be to take a weekly culinary trip through the islands with Virginia Burke.

A Great Book for Christian Women

I loved this book. It is a powerful study about what it means to be a godly wife. It changed how I look at 1 Peter 3:1-6 and having a gentle and quiet spirit -- I now see it as appealing and powerful. This is the revised edition. (I've read both.) The only difference I noticed is the revised is a little better flow than the first book, but basically the same content. Both really impacted me. I will probably read it again next year. This is NOT just a once-in-your-life-time study if you are married!

This is a very powerful book. I was not able to read it all at one time, becuase the lessons are so big and powerful that I have needed time between chapters at times to work thru the issues they have brought up, which is exactly what you want in a spiritual lesson book. There have been many nights when my husband comes home and I have a list of apoligies for him on how I am not fullfilling my role as a wife and how that has hurt or hindered him. This is a fantastic book that every christian woman should read.

What an amazing book! It was as if Virgina had been in my marriage since day one! She was able to touch on fears and desires of the average woman and was then able to calm our anxious hearts and help us move on, not only through her words, but through the scriptures. I have to confess that at times it was hard to read, because I was convicted by my attitudes and my behavior toward my husband. But I kept going back to the book, it drew me in. I am forever thankful for Ms Lefler and her wisdom. I am sure that my husband and family are grateful as well.

My husband raves about this incredible book, even though he's never read it! He has commented several times on the obvious changes in my character as a result of the principals in this book. Virginia Lefler is not only spiritual and biblical in this incredible breakdown of a wife's role and worth to God, but she's practical.
There are clear examples of what to do and how to do it, in order to follow God's plan in your marriage. My life is now less stressful and confusing as I am following the scriptures and Virginia's down to earth advice based on 34 years of her own successful marriage.
Upon meeting her recently, I realized that she practices what she preaches and enjoys the peace that comes along with being a Gentle Quiet Spirit.
If you want to be a peaceful and happy wife, get this book!

I highly recommend this book because it has greatly helped me to gain deeper convictions on what it really means to respect and submit to my husband and it truly has helped me feel so much closer to him. I am more in touch with my fears and the reasons that I disrespect. The author not only uses so many real-life and relatable examples, but also scriptures that that are very helpful for women to hold on to and put into practice daily. I usually don't refer back to books, but this book is outstanding, and I often refer to it and read it over and over again, to remind me of the biblical principles.

I really enjoyed reading this book again after Sister Hinkley's recent passing. It was a fun and enjoyable way to get a peek into her life. She truly had an inspiring spirit, and a magical sense of humor that put everyone around her at ease instantly.

This is a book to be read at times of happiness, or in times of trouble. It is a great gift for any LDS household, and even for those who are not of this faith. There are so many wonderful insights about living and loving in this book.

It is such a great book. She told a story aout when her and President Hinckley were about to get married. He talked to her and wanted her to know that he only had $25 to his name. She said the first thing she thought of how lucky she was. She always wanted a husband and now she got $25 too!! Remarkable woman and a wonderful read.

Sister Hinkley is a model of practicality, faith in Christ, and a loving and supportive mother, companion, and grandmother. When you need a boost-- look at this remarkable women's example and you will be inspired to "carry on," as you are reminded of the most important things in life. This book is also a great example of a record of one's personal history.

I have never before seen anything so incredibly chock-full of history of the roots of bluegrass, mountain and old timey music before! The author knows his stuff. The two narrative cd's with music samples are worth way more than the price for the book itself! This is a highly collectable book - you will never come across anything so interesting and enlightning on the roots of music in this great land!

Give them as gifts. "Heritage tourism" is very popular and this is one fantastic road trip! The Blue Ridge Mountains -- you can toss a stone in any direction and hit a musician. I have only one word of advise should you follow the Crooked Road... Please do not just go from town to town looking to hear music. You will miss it entirely. The countryside, the fresh air, the people - that is The Crooked Road.

I also recommend you start the trail in Rocky Mount Virginia - there is a lovely Bed adn breakfast just one block from the Depot where they have Footlights of the Blue Ridge music every other Friday night.

My younger son (7) and I as well as the rest of the family love the music and intros on the CDs. There is so much good info on the Road and all the places to go, you better go soon, before everyone gets there ahead of you and you can't see / hear the good stuff! The only problem I have is that the volume / equalization of the intros vs. the selections make the narrator difficult to hear when the selections are at a good level. I am looking forward to our next trip so we can have a better idea of where to go with the little bit of time we will have. FYI: the Floyd Country Store has been remodeled, and even though it is more "touristy" now it is so much more comfortable than it was before - it seems to have A/C. I know for a fact that MANY of the locals attend shows there regularly (we have family there). I have also seen some of the people there that are in the photo on the cover of the book.

I found this guide to be delightful. Besides being enjoyably readable, it contained great historical "tidbits" to give it context. The information about the sites was practical and usable. The two CD's that were included in the book had a fun variety of old time and roots music. I have listened to them over and over again in both my car and my home. I received this book as a gift and I absolutely love, love, love it! I regret that I was not fortunate enough to actually purchase any of their candies when their stores where open. I'm a truffle lover and the truffles in this book, while few are absolutely excellent and extremely easy to make. We made caramel apples recently and used the caramel recipe in the book and I won't say how many of the apples I ate but I enjoyed each and every one of them. Buy this book; you will love all the recipes in it.

I never heard of Hazel's Candies, and I bought this book along with several others as I launched into home candymaking. This book contains kitchen-tested recipes -- very important -- that are easy enough and well-explained enough for the novice. Forget microwave fudge. This is the real deal. I just made a batch of the best fudge in the universe from this cookbook. It's enough to make me think of switching careers, or gaining 500 pounds, or both.

Some recipes call for items not usually found in a home cook's kitchen -- such as hard butter. I found everything I needed on-line at www.kitchenkrafts.com.

I am an amateur cook and love to make candy. I remember buying candy at Hazel's Candies when they had stores in the malls in Washington and Oregon. I was really excited to see that they had written a candy cookbook using their original recipes that they scaled down for home use. My favorites are the Victorian creams and the fudge recipes. This book tells you exactly what ingredients you will need and a step by step recipe. If you do have a problem it walks you through a list of questions and what you might have done that caused the problem. I would recommend this candy cookbook as a gift to ones self and also a gift for others for any occasion.

Izzy's Fire: Finding Humanity In The Holocaust is the triumphant true story of a holocaust survivor and members of her family escaped the Kovno Ghetto in Lithuania, survived trials and successfully hid until the war's end in a hiding places granted them by a Catholic farmer. She, her husband, and other refugees dug a hole between two potato cellars, and with the unselfish aid of that selfless, risk taking Catholic family, miraculously survived the Holocaust. Afterward she and her husband emigrated to America and encountered a joyful reunion decades later. Izzy's Fire gives voice to those who survived the Holocaust in hiding, and is a welcome addition to Holocaust studies shelves.

Rebeccasreads highly recommends IZZY'S FIRE as a compelling account of how a Lithuanian Jewish couple & their son survived the Nazi occupation, & hide for 3 years in a Catholic farmer's root cellar. & then surviving the Communist "liberation" of their homeland.

Beasley draws from personal interviews, research & numerous memoirs, including those from Israel "Izzy" Ipson, who helped his family escape from Kovno Ghetto, one of the most notorious killing fields for Jews in Lithuania. The Ipps, as they were known then, relocated to Richmond following their liberation and later changed their name to Ipson. Their story has been re-created at the Virginia Holocaust Museum in Richmond, Virginia.

IZZY'S FIRE is Eta's answer to those who say the Holocaust never happened, & is a tribute to personal bravery & the unquenchable resources of compassion, quick-wittedness & sheer determination to live, with a lot of luck thrown in.

Complete with maps & photos, IZZY'S FIRE is a story for all time.

There are many people today that feel "entitled" due to race, relegion or the condition of the home in which they were born. This is a story about a family who's life was turned upside down by war; who lived in barns, potato holes and lived in fear of being murdered as was the fate of many of their family members. Through perserverance and a strong faith in God, they were able to get to America and lived the "american story" of pulling themselves up from poverty to owning a successful business. All young people need to read this story.

In all honesty, I had never read a book about holocaust survivors. Sure, I learned about the brutal, senseless mass murder of millions of Jews and seen those horrid, deplorable images of dead bodies of Jews lying around strewn while German soldiers looked on in glee in History class. But NEVER have I read a personal account, and it was far more devastating to my sense of humanity than I could ever imagine.
From the first pages of Izzy's Fire, by Nancy Wright Beasley, I was enthralled with Izzy Ipson and his family's story as well as those of their friends and family. Ms. Beasley did an awesome job of bringing their story to life for me, but more so making their story, their journey through hell, mine. I connected with these people because I am a wife and mother. I thought and later asked myself after I had read the story, would we have survived something like this? Would my husband have risked his life day in and day out, like Izzy, to save my son, and me and to provide safety and food for us? Would my son have endured as Jay did?

Edna lost two babies, one during the roundup in Lithuania and one after their escape to the United States. How did she keep her sanity? Was she made of steel? No! Ms. Beasley brilliantly displayed Edna's moments of fear, happiness, and extreme stress, like when her step-father, mother, her sister Minnie and their sons Fievel and Chaim were put on board the truck heading for certain death. It was only the knowing that Izzy would surely not live without them that made Edna not board that train with her son, and of course, Jay's stubborn desire to live to see his father. No one was without pain in this story; not even the reader.
I left the reading knowing the Ipson's persevered because of their faith and strength in God and one another. Even when faced with the knowledge that their families were executed, they still had one another to get them through, and that's what they needed. Not even hiding out in a make-shift shelter in a potato patch with 7 other people could break their spirit and resolve.
I cannot tell you exactly how many heroes are in this story. From the German and Jewish Ghetto soldiers who risked their lives to give information and ways to escape to not only Izzy but to others as well to the Gentiles (non-Jews) who risked their lives to hide their fellow human beings. In short, Ms. Beasley is by far one of the most powerful and genuine storytellers whose best gift, I believe, is letting the voice of the characters tell their own story. In no way does her voice intrude upon the essence of Izzy's story.
I recommend Izzy's Fire without abandon to anyone who wants to read about real people, real life, and real issues. It should be required reading in the public schools across America to help not only put a face and name to the horror's of the evil that man can do, but to also demonstrate the resilience of man to overcome when the odds are stacked against him. This book sent me running to the Holocaust Museum; it brought History alive for me, and it will do the same to you.

I have never been too crazy about or never been good at economics, but after reading this book, I feel I understand the real-world economics better. For a novice like me, it is relatively easy to follow the contents because it's full of examples from real business world. I assume this book will be satisfactory to more "academic" readers too because the book still doesn't fail to cover real economic materials like graphs and theories.

It's nice, simple reading for all. As one of the only autobiographies by a person with JRA, Nicole's Story is a nice resource for understanding, sympathizing, and empathizing if you have JRA. My daughter has JRA and I'm sure she'll be glad to have this book so she can see that she is not alone. I think I'll share it with her teachers and classmates too.

A Must Have for any family with a child with arthritis

This pictorial book of a real life story of Nicole, a little girl with arthritis kept my children's attention. My daughter has juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and this book helped her to see she is not alone in her struggles. She can easily relate to Nicole. I also gave this book to both my children's teachers for their classroom collection. It explains alot about JRA as well as making it 'acceptable'. They found it to be informative as well as touching.

Great Job Nicole. A great gift for any child or parent.

Great book! I recommend this book for parents as well as teachers and medical professionals who work with patients suffering from JRA. I've had JRA for 17 years and was finally diagnosed at age 16, after two years of symptoms and suffering from the crippling RA pain.

The list of resources in this book will help any parent or patient work out problems they may encounter living with this disease. As an author it's great to see, and use a book that takes JRA seriously from a child's point of view. I've resourced many books written by medical professionals that lecture patients on how to cope. But Nicole's Story goes the the heart of what all of us living, coping, and surviving with RA and JRA experience on a daily basis. And I plan to use it in all my support groups for kids and teen living with JRA.

Nicole's Story will help discard the myth that Arthritis is just "an old person's disease." Kids coping with JRA have now found a voice. I hope more people will take the time to listen. Bravo Nicole!

This book sends out a great message to young people stricken down with this painful disease. I was diagnosed with JRA when I was fourteen, and I'm 15 now. Thing is, we aren't stricken down. With the help of medical science and power of God, we'll always find a way to live through yet another day that drags on to feel like an eternity. This is a book every JRA-RA patient should read, young or adult. My love and prayers go out to Nicole and her family, plus all the rest of us with this formerly "crippling" disease. But there's hope if you catch it soon enough. I had it for months before we got a diagnosis.

Goodbye and God Bless
