As a gay traveller it isn't always easy for two men to check in and have to fight to get a double bed. This guide is a good starting point for those in the same situation.

I have bought every version of this book since 2001 and have stayed in perhaps 30 of the B and Bs recommended in the book. With only two exceptions, all have been excellent. I wrote to the publisher about a problem with one and it was noted in the next edition. This guide is not only dependable, it is well-organized. Once you know what region you want to stay in, it is easy to use the guide maps and descriptions to find the right place.

I got this for a gift for my mom, with whom I share a long history of travels both on and to the sea including some terrific lighthouses on the North Carolina coast. Her health and age plus my role as mommy do not allow us to do much travelling anymore, so this gift was meant to be of special significance, standing in for those dream trips we always say we are going to take someday even though we both know that day may never come. She just loved this book, especially the beautiful photographs. Neither one of us had ever heard of lighthouses that were now available for tourist lodging. Now we are planning that next trip in earnest because we have something concrete to look at along with helpful info and contact details. We still may never get to go, but our fantasizing has become more fun and exciting. For that gift to both of us, I am deeply grateful.

Stilwell's Britain Bed & Breakfast 2000 is a very impressive guidebook listing more than 8000 B&Bs whose price ranges is from $25 to #35 per person per night. A "Official Tourist Authority" grade is provided for each B&B. Stilwell's Britain Bed & Breakfast 2000 is organized county-by-county. Enhanced with maps, identification of which B&Bs serve evening meals, and a very handy size for glove compartment or backpack, this is the most complete and "traveler friendly" compendium available for British B&Bs today.

I liked it better than the Automobile Association's. Blurbs are very short. maps are great- only show places where b&b's are listed. some email addresses, but no web addresses.

This wonderful book has thankfully been saved from obscurity and repinted. It is a treasure trove of Chalet architectual detailing. Craftsman's art that has long since died out, it has many pictures showing how the construction was done. Floor plans large and small you could build from today. They also delve into how this vernacular developed over time. Explains the rocks on the roof and the purpose of the wedged shaped eves (avalanche protection). If you have a Chalet project or a curiosity about how these were made, this is the book for you.

We have used the book several times and have not been disappointed. We discovered one place that is a real treasure. Would like to see the places rated for cleanliness though.
