This pamphlet-size book is a fast-paced survey of tools and techniques for capturing the voice of the customer and using that voice to design products and services.

Some familiarity with TQM and quality techniques will be necessary to use this book effectively. The main focus of the book is quality function deployment (QFD), and this book serves as an introduction to this technique in its simplest form. For advanced practitioners this material may be too basic, but it does serve as a memory jogger. For someone new to QDF this is a great introduction, but the presentation is too brisk to discover the nuances and the true power of QFD.

The appendices contained brief overviews of the 7 quality control tools (from TQM), the 7 management tools, and 7 creativity tools, which, are memory joggers as are the other material in this book.

If you want a quick introduction to some powerful tools and are willing to dig deeper into them using other books and resources, or you are familiar with them and want a sourcebook of ideas this book is an invaluable aid. It's small enough to fit in a purse or briefcase, and valuable enough to have nearby at all times.

An extrememly helpful picture of new product development at the time of the growing globalization of world markets. Many U.S companies were afraid to embrace this new concpt--particuarly in new product development International had always been treated as a separate department--something isolated in a sense from the domestic operation. Today most forward U.S. companies are completely global in their outlook all the way from the way they are orgnaized down to the way they devlope products for world markets.At the time this study was done, the U.S. was behind other countries in recognizing globaliztion and in many ways this had an adverse effect on our abilty to compete globally. This book gives me an in depth picture of this point in time for new product development.

I recommend this book to parents of toddlers everywhere. My son loves for us to read to him, but he has a short attention span. The pictures are bright and colorful, and the stories are fairly short and are about Disney characters that he can easily identify. So, even though he cannot read he loves to look at the pictures. You can read it over and over without getting too bored and since it is one book, you don't have a lot of books to carry around. For older children, it is easy to read, and involves several different characters.

The many little stories in this book have very good authors. Each story is very well written and interesting. We share stories of our canine friends as we share stories of our children. Pets mean so much in our daily lives and this books shares some the lives of dogs that have touch humans so deeply. Dog Tales for the Soul is fun to read, interesting and stories are short for the times you only have time to read one or two stories at a time.

The DC-9 family is an inspired choice for the first volume of the Squadron/Signal "At The Gate" series. Millions of people have flown on the DC-9 series aircraft over the years, and it introduced jet travel to innumerable cities. This book is a well-illustrated historical overview of the DC-9 (and subsequent MD-80 and MD-90) family of aircraft. It is profusely illustrated with photographs, paintings, and line drawings.

The book would be ideal for scale modelers, but is equally useful as an introduction to the aircraft from a historical point of view. The book is strong on photographs of the aircraft in numerous paint schemes, and contains a lot of useful information on the program. Most of the photographs are in color, which is in wonderful contrast to most of the earlier Squadron/Signal "In Action" series. The book could have used more cockpit illustrations (the MD-80 and MD-90 EFIS cockpits are ignored) and information on systems, but aside from those critiques it is a well-rounded volume.

The DC-9 was the first jet airliner I learned to fly. Two decades since I first checked out in the DC-9, it is still a favorite. This book is accurate (if general) but should be in the library of any DC-9 enthusiast.
