My Korean War Tank Bible
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2004-02-04
I've had this book for several years, and I've turned to it so often that the poor paperback binding finally gave up the ghost and the cover and several pages came off. This book has so much information not only about armored fighting vehicles but about the war itself, that it wasn't until more recently that I realized the text does gloss over a good amount of detail. Jim Mesko's writing is very narrative, with a decidedly pro-American bent; looking past his obvious disgust with North Korean atrocities, he tells an often compelling tale of the major battles during the first year of the war.

The real gems of this book are the photographs, of which this book has no shortage. These photos cover almost every major vehicle and weapon used by the United Nations forces, even British and Australian carriers and softskins; however, every photo of an M26 Pershing tank happens to be Marine! No Army Pershings made the cut, and with the M46 Pattons appearing much later in the book (which is strange as they were there from September 1950 on), the casual reader may get the impression that only Marines had the heavy tanks and the Army used only Shermans and Chaffees until 1951.

Also included in the photos are M19 "Flak Wagons", M16 Quad Fifty halftracks, M39 utility vehicles, self-propelled artillery of all sorts, Jeeps and other trucks, British, Canadian, Australian, Turkish, and South Korean armor, captured North Korean vehicles, mine rollers, telephone line layers, flamethrower and bridgelayer tanks, armored cars, searchlights, even ambulance buses and a donut kitchen truck! The only thing I found missing was the M75 armored infantry carrier used late in the war, and precious little organizational information on the units that deployed and when they upgraded their tanks. Overall, I found this book very useful, with many photos I have not seen in any other source.

I have found that the Arne Jacobsen- Compact Design Portfolio is an excellent introduction to the many accomplishments of this legendary Danish Architect and Designer. This book features many of the products that he designed back in the 1950's and 60's, most of which are still in production today. This book also includes many of his Architectural achievments such as the SAS Royal Hotel, Copenhagen. I highly recommend it for anyone studying Design and Architecture. He was "The man" and way ahead of his time.

Excellent addition to your curriculum!

This is a really wonderful book. It helps you plan a virtual field trip with your kids to the seven continents. In the beginning, they make their own "passport" and even a suitcase (from cereal box) to start their trip. The first stop is North America, where they will learn and craft about Native people from Canada and USA (making a Totem Pole), Mexico (making Papel picado), USA (making a statue of Liberty, a replica of Spirit of St. Louis plane), and other projects. Then, the next step is The Pacific Islands and Australia where kids will learn and craft about animals and art in the region. In Asia, kids will make a Japanese doll, a Chinese paper fan and an Indian elephant just to mention some things. In Africa, projects include a desert sand dune, a striped zebra and the Great Pyramid among others. In Europe, they will learn and craft about Eiffel Tower, Russian matryoshkas, castles, windmills, etc. In Central and South America, kids will learn and craft about music instruments, animals and folk crafts. In Antarctica, kids will learn about icebergs, penguins, whales.

This book is not only fun for kids, but it offers many opportunities to learn. For every project, it includes a map and location of the topic studied, and it contains other useful information to share, such as scientific facts about what the kids are crafting (like in the case of animals), some easy science experiments related, suggestions of books to read around that topic, and curious facts that will amaze everyone.

This book works great for Social Studies in the lower elementary grades, but it can also be used to teach science or to take ideas for reading response projects.

Very good practical advice for business growth

I appreciate the format of the book, which provides perspectives from many different types of retailers and of many different sizes. Very interesting to see the different problems confronting each, as well as which issues confront all. Even better, though, is the approach each takes to common problems. Only history will show which ones are most most successful, but all in all a good book for people looking for ideas on how to grow their own retail operations.

Stop Referring to Older Tables

Review Date: 2006-06-29
As always ASME leads by providing the world with the latest available data for steam. This book contains steam properties based on the latest available data i.e Industrial Formulation 97. Some of the industry still continues to use older standards that may lead to
incorrect designs and specifications. This book should be an essential acquisition by any industry dealing with steam equipment as well as steam driven thermal power plants. However, engineers in the field as well as mechanical engineering students are likely to find the present tables far too detailed for ready reference. They should then go for the compact and cheaper 'Engineering Steam Tables' by Ashok Malhotra also based on IF-97 and also available at Amazon.co.uk

THE bible when it comes to the Attorney-Client Privilege and the Work-Product Doctrine. EVERY attorney should have a copy!
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-12

I loved this "book." I say book in quotes because it is really a two-volume 1474-page legal treatise on the subject matter its title clearly indicates it covers. The book's Table of Contents reads as follows:

I. The Attorney-Client Privilege (ACP) [1-9]
II. The Work-Product Doctrine (WPD) [10-16]
III. Factor Common to both ACP & WPD [17-24]

1. Purpose & scope of the ACP
2. Standing
3. Elements of the ACP
>>A communication
>>Privileged persons
>>In confidence
>>For purpose of seeking or obtaining legal assistance
4. Waiver of the ACP
5. Exceptions to application of the ACP
6. Criminal convictions based on attorney testimony
7. Survival of the ACP
8. ACP in international context
9. Ethical concerns
10. Purpose of the WPD
11. Procedural matters
12. Elements of WPD
>>Documents & tangible things otherwise discoverable
>>Prepared in anticipation of litigation or for trial
>>By or for another party or that party's representative
13. Qualifications on WPD
>>Substantial need
>>Unable to obtain substantial equivalent
>>Balancing need for information against WPD policies
14. Protecting attorney's mental impressions
15. Exceptions to the WPD
16. Waiver of the WPD
17. Underlying facts not privilege protected
18. Procedural issues
19. Deposing & testifying counsel
20. Waiver of privilege in government prosecutions or investigations
21. ACP & WWD in the Electronic Age
22. "Two strings to the bow" raising both ACP & WPD
23. Interplay between FOIA and ACP/WPD
24. Conclusion: Whither the privilege

For more than two years now I have been doing document review work in the discovery process regarding large class action lawsuits. Probably the most complex aspect of the work I do relates to identifying documents as protected by the ACP, WPD, or both. When I make such identification, then I have to document my beliefs in what is called a Privilige Log (see pages 1188-1215 for discussion of privilege logs). And that's why I purchased this book. It does a wonderful job helping me determine when, why, and how to document my findings regarding documents I see fit to include in a privilege log.

My favorite part of the book was Part III where the author covers Privilege Logs, "In Camera" Inspections, and The ACP/WPD in the Electronic Age. And I especially liked the deep coverage of various court cases cited. As a result the book sort of has the feel of a legal digest since it included many quotes from many cases on point.

I would have liked the book better if it had been organized a little differently. I think the material in Part III should have been moved to the front of the book so the reader can ease themselves into the book before facing the technical rules of ACP and WPD. I think summary chapters of both ACP and WPD should be added to Part III if it is to be moved to the front of the book. And then the ACP material in the current Part I can be moved to Part II. And the WPD material in the current Part II can be moved to Part III. The other thing this book needed was an index of terms. I can't go to the back of the book and look up "Privilege Log." No such index exists, and one should. But this book is quite a resource. 5 stars!

For any educator who would hope to understand and properly handle Autistic students' special needs

Review Date: 2008-05-06
There are more children with autism in schools than ever before in the history of American public education. "Autism in Your Classroom" gives educators the practical information and guidance they need to support these children with ASDs, or Autism Spectrum Disorders. "Autism in your Classroom" is a much-needed resource that gives teachers the understanding of the types, causes, characteristics, and treatments of these ASDs. Deftly written by Deborah Fein, Ph. D., a clinical and research neuropsychologist with 35 years of experience and serves as Professor of Psychology at the University of Connecticut; and fellow Ph. D Michelle A. Dunn, an Associate professor of neurology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine with 25 years of experience. The combined expertise of the two make "Autism in Your Classroom" invaluable to any educator who would hope to understand and properly handle Autistic students' special needs. Also very highly recommended from Woodbine house is "Autism 24/7: A Family Guide To Learning At Home And In The Community" (9781890627539, $19.95) by autism specialist Andy Bondy and speech/language pathologist Lori A. Frost.

A unique, fascinating survey

We are recommending this book to the visitors of the designzine.com Web site, the online newsstand for design. While many of the voracious readers of design book have become familiar with some few auto designs by Le Corbusier, Gropius, and others, there was no intelligent study before this contribution by Ivan Margolius, an architect himself, that so fully documents the subject. Happily, the literate text is not infused with the kind of macho techno-speak found in most standard car books. We like that the book was made easy to read by the non-intrusive graphic design of Alun Evans and Katy Hepburn (not the movie star).

A Classic
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-10-03
Since this is a children's book I'll keep it clean. Actually a classic, this is a dekliberately corny cash grab by the original sell out Martin Luther. A children's book advertised as serrious yoga. O.k., but the artwork should've been a lot better and marketed at adults. The poem itself isw a timeless masterpiece about the birth of Jesus, illustrated. If sung aloud, can be very serious and powerful yoga. My niece has a lot of children's books and my mom gets them they're not more than 5 dollars, but come on it's the reading equivalent of drinking corn syrup. Fix the artwork for adults please. Says this reviewer. I'm getting a copy for my two nieces for Christmas this year and got one for myself and will get one for my best friend and grandmother as well. This might be worth money some day.
