The Way of the Master is an excellent introduction to personal evangelism. The on-the-street witnessing clips are powerful and illustrative of the approach the program teaches. Our adult Sunday School class is excited about this. It has proven very effective.

This book is used along side the DVD version. It is like nothing you have seend before!
Do people say that you are a good person? Maybe you think you really are good in Gods eyes.
Do you really understand why Jesus had to die for your sin?
Way of the Master Basic training shows you how God sees your sin and how to share your faith without getting into an argument. Do you know someone who is not saved? A mother, father, brother, sister or just a friend? Then this training material is for you. It may even help you to answer those hard questions that come up around the office. WOTM has helped me to share my faith more boldly, but most importantly biblically. The way Jesus did.

A Great Witnessing Tool With a Different Approach
Helpful Votes: 8 out of 8 total.
Review Date: 2007-03-29
Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort have teamed up to produce what I think is a great witnessing tool. May authors use the approach that accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your life will make you feel happy and fulfilled in this life. Instead, Cameron and Comfort use the Old Testament Law (10 Commandments) to show how EVERYONE at some point and time in their life has broken at least one of the commandments and is danger of God's judgement. Additionally, the emphasis is also on the next life since we will spend far more time in heaven or hell than here on earth.

We had this course taught at our church and the basic class format is as follows: go over what we learned from the previous week's assignment, watch the DVD that goes with the book, discuss the DVD, and go over next week's assignment.

The book's chapters are as follows:

1. Cultivating Compassion for the Lost.
2. Discovering Hell's Best Kept Secret.
3. Learning to Overcome Fear.
4. Practicing What You Preach.
5. Crafting the Message.
6. Answering the Top Ten Questions.
7. Exposing the Myth of the Modern Message.
8. Spreading Your Wings.

If you or your church are looking for another witnessing tool, this is an excellent one to consider.

Enjoy reading the book and be challenged. Highly recommended!

This is really a great product. I had read a commentary by Ray Comfort and his approach to evangelism online and I bought this book and cds after investigating his website. What a powerful and useful approach to those who need to hear the message of Christ. I bought this along with Ray's book as a kit. This CD kit is an 8-part series on "The Way of the Master" that is basically the video series on Biblical Evangelism in sound-only form. It is a real bargin, although I would invest in the videos if I was teaching this to a class. It thoroughly walks you through breaking down the barriers that people have to hearing someone share their faith and it helps you to break down your own fears in sharing your faith. I look at this as another great tool that God is providing to reach people for Him. I strongly recommend this to anyone who feels the fire within but is worried about how to reach those around them for Christ.

I have been a middle school teacher for 15 years. No other book comes close to this one when it comes to practical, easy to explain, writing lessons. Even "voice," which I have always found exceedingly difficult to explain, is covered in a coherent manner. I use this every year to kick off the writing process. For some kids it is review, others not so much, but either way this book, for me, is a must-have.

For a realistic, hearfelt look at what it was like to dance at an infamous strip club, have a long love affair with porn king Artie Mitchell, and hang out with Hunter Thompson, this is the book to read! Full of uncanny detail, Corday's story is affectionate, funny, sexy, and a real page-turner. With a searing account of Artie's slaying by his brother Jim and the motives behind it, the murder trial which cost him $1.3 million, and the political connections that helped him get off with serving just 3 years at San Quentin.

Simone Corday not only provides intimate details about working at the O'Farrell Theater, she kept track of conversations between she and her long-time lover Artie Mitchell, and her compadre Hunter S. Thompson in journals.

In her memoir, you are like a fly on the wall, drinking in so many delicious details about her life with these over-the-top counterculture icons.

It's a sensual, emotional page turner. You won't want to put it down, and then you will be crying out for more, lingering on that final page, and searching for old Mitchell Brothers' films to get more glimpses on her extraordinary life.

This book worked so well for me, I'm being presented at the International Coach Federation conference as an example of branding! I also brand clients on the Internet, and found this book tremendously helpful. It gave me theory, but also vocabulary for explaining complex concepts to clients -- as to why I insisted on this or that for their websites, email responses, etc. For instance, Mr. Temporal asked research participants to rate personalities of two companies with Internet presences. He found that consumers preferred to buy from the company that appeared "easy going, modest, helpful, caring, approachable, and interested," rather than those that appeared "sophisticated, arrogant, efficient, self-centered, distant and disinterested." And, not surprisingly, the latter company was ahead in the competition. It helped me resolve those efficiency-care issues we face. If you're serious about having a branded presence on the Internet, I'd take a look at this book if I were you.

Age of Entheogens & The Angel's Dictionary
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2005-12-26
The Age of Entheogens is a radical re-examination of the history of western civilization, exploring the brutal suppression of ecstatic, experiential religions by the 1600-year-old Pharmacratic Inquisition, leading up to the contemporary Entheogenic Reformation, or frank replacement with genuine entheogens of the placebo sacraments at the hollow center of today's purely symbolic religions.
The Angel's Dictionary is a lexicon of 318 words pertaining to sacred inebriants, ecstatic states and kindred topics; with 290 definitions supported by 445 quotations from classic drug and general literature in six languages; including 37 neologisms as well as 70 entries from 29 non-European languages; made in response to R. Gordon Wasson's trenchant call for "a vocabulary to describe all the modalities of a Divine Inebriant.

Another Masterpiece by Ott
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-03-02
As indicated by the title, what we have here is really two books under one cover. Together they add up to a mere160 pages but as with all of Ott's books that I have read, it is densely packed with knowledge.

The Age of Entheogens is a call to draw us out of the Dark Ages in which we live into a brighter future where people can reconnect with the spirit through the immediate experience of the sacred with entheogens (sacred plants, hallucinogens, psychedelics or what have you) as our distant ancestors did before the world tree of knowledge and life was cut down to build the church of artifice, dominion and repression of the sacred within all of us.

The basic message is in essence the same as Terence McKenna's concept and book The Archaic Revival; that in the distant past humanity lived in harmony with Nature and in connection with the sacred through the shamanic use of vision plants; that history has been the story of the repression of this practice and thus the banishment from Eden; that religion, as an institution, is the flaming sword that bars us from reconnecting with the sacred and that as a society we would do well to now reconvene with that natural harmonious connection through the use of these sacred plants. This is the "Archaic Revival" that McKenna speaks of or the "Entheogenic Reformation" that Ott speaks of.

That having now been said, allow me to state that the way in which Ott and McKenna present this message are significantly different yet complimentary. McKenna's presentation is perhaps better suited to wider audiences and/or as an introduction to this quintessential important idea. Ott's presentation, on the other hand, seems to me to be much more suited for scholarly readers - people who require academic-style citations and references to foundational works already established and well respected or for people who have gotten McKenna's message and would now like to delve into the sober and scholarly knowledge that support it. Whereas skeptics may understandably dismiss McKenna's Archaic Revival as lacking in supporting evidence and pay the idea no further attention, Ott's Age of Entheogens would likely convince them - if they are at all reasonable - that this idea is at the very least very plausible and very important. On the other hand, the more general reader interested in entheogens may find Ott's Age of Entheogens too difficult, too bogged down by notes and details whereas these same people may be immediately swept up in McKenna's more fluid and easy-to-read Archaic Revival. Personally I find The Archaic Revival and the Age of Entheogens to be complimentary.

I will now turn from this comparative exercise and give Ott's book a much-deserved direct look.

The Age of Entheogens opens with Ott's Exordium, a tour de force. Here, in something like a manifesto, Ott shatters the empty hypocrisy of organized (non-experiential and non-vital) religions and the so-called "war on drugs". Here Ott triumphantly wins back the high ground for that real "old time religion"; the original, organic religion of direct experience of the spirit through entheogens.

The first chapter is entitled The Age of Entheogens. In recent history it has been the widely held position of orthodox anthropology that although what is called shamanism is the universal root of all religions, the shamanic use of psychoactive plants is a "decadent" form of shamanism as compared to shamanism that relies on what are classified as ordeals to alter consciousness (i.e. fasting, isolation, prolonged pain, marathon drumming and so-on). But, as Ott demonstrates, Wasson and other scholars have since shown that quite the opposite is the case; entheogen-based shamanism is indeed the original shamanism and it is only when no entheogens are available that shamans turn to other less effective techniques.

In the next chapter, The Pharmacratic Inquisition, Ott argues convincingly that the rise of Christianity as the state religion of the Roman empire meant the downfall of Western civilization into the Dark Ages in which all effort was made to eradicate science, independent thought and any practice involving entheogens and knowledge thereof. Central to this plunge into ignorance was the deliberate substitution of the ages old entheogenic sacrament provided to seekers in the Eleusinian mystery rites - the sacrament that gave one an undeniably profound experience - with the innate Christian Eucharist that gave no experience but which required faith in order to have any meaning at all. As Ott puts forth, it is no coincidence but rather a direct consequence that, "the forced imposition of Christianity as state religion in the reign of Constantine, far from being a progressive change, as Christians would have us think, plunged Europe into a millennium of atavism and book burning, of barbarous destruction and desecration of classical art and literature, in which the torch of science and learning, lit in such a promising fashion by the Greek philosophers, was all but extinguished, and during which the hard-won pharmacognistical and other scientific knowledge of the ancients was forgotten, if not lost completely."

In this chapter Ott also discusses the centuries of repression, persecution and eradication of any folk-knowledge of medicinal and entheogenic plants in Europe. Witch hunts and inquisitions abounded. Grab your torches, Bibles and pitchforks! Onward Christian soldiers! As Ott says, "I suggest that, as far as religion goes, we are still in the Dark Ages, and that the Entheogenic Reformation at last heralds the dawning of the Entheogenic Renaissance, a spiritual Renaissance which hopefully will do for religions what the mediaeval Renaissance did for art and science a half-millennium ago."

This takes us to the next chapter entitled The Entheogenic Reformation. Here we look at the various entheogen-based forms of spirituality that live on outside of the empire of church and state.

Finally in Agape: Vac or Logos, Ott looks forward to a possible future, the dawning of the Age of Entheogens. "Christianity and suchlike symbolic, dogmatic religions," he writes, "will prosper only by forsaking the Pharmacratic Inquisition and embracing the Entheogenic Reformation with open arms." Indeed.

Now then for the second book within this book. In the actual text this second half is more descriptively entitled The Angels' Dictionary: Toward a Vocabulary for Sacred Inebriants, Ecstatic States and Kindred Topics. As anyone who has experienced entheogens as such or who has carefully studied the way in which these plants and fungi are traditionally used, such words as "intoxication" and "hallucination" can be dreadfully inadequate. It is rather like trying to describe the colors of the rainbow with only the words "black" and "white" to describe them. As R. Gordon Wasson wrote in 1961, a few years after he rediscovered (for the modern Western world) the traditional use of psilocybian mushrooms in Southern Mexico, "What we need is a vocabulary to describe all the modalities of a Divine Inebriant".

Here then we have Ott's answer to Wasson's call. The Angels' Dictionary is a dictionary of terms related to divine inebriants, shamanism, psychonautica and the like. The entheogenic experience of the ineffable is still beyond language, but this dictionary is at least a good start.

Overall I found this book to be excellent like all of Ott's books. It deserves a spot on the shelves of all serious students of entheogens. It would be quite at home beside the works of R. Gordon Wasson, Albert Hofmann, Carl Ruck and other masters in this field. As this book is out of print, interested readers are urged to acquire a copy before they are gone. Despite the fact that Ott's books are undeniably amongst the very best that deal with entheogens they all seem to be printed in limited numbers and they all go out of print. After that used book sellers tend to charge a good deal of money for Ott's books because those who know how well he writes are willing to pay a good deal of money for them. Some of his books are being sold for hundreds of dollars but for the time being, one can find this particular book for a reasonable price. I would imagine that this will not last.

A solid 5 stars. 2 excellent short books in 1:

The Age of Entheogens, The Pharmacratic Inquisition, and The Entheogenic Reformation. Describes that the ancients used psychoactives all the time, then the power establishment suppressed them, but now entheogens are becoming available again.

The Angels' Dictionary, which is a dictionary of entheogen religion terminology.

This book is widely available new; simply search. Highly recommended. Ott is one of the very few writers, even one of very few entheogenists, who have their head ... on right about psychoactives, in this twisted world. He tells it straight about the motives behind the prohibition-for-profit gravy train. See my Amazon info area for more information.

This series starts with the ultimate in basics and moves rapidly, in a well ordered fashion, to the essence of Algebraic concepts. The book takes what you learned in Arithmatic and shows you how it applies to upper Mathematics. The explainations are clear and precise with no fluff. We used it when my daughter was struggling with the conceptual jump from Arithmatic to Mathematics. The book leaves no gaps or guess work. When she was through with the exercises in book 1 she tested into the upper half of Algebra 1. I highly recommend it for any student. Forget the expensive, boring, repetitive, & typically hated curriculums. We did follow it with the second book which is equally as well done.

I am delighted to use this excellent, thin (77 page) algebra text with my son. I have been homeschooling my five children beginning in 1993. After dragging through Saxon Algebra with my two daughters, I was weary of the cluttered, text-rich format that covered way too much material. In about a month and a half, we will have covered this book completely. I look forward to receiving Algebra Book 2.

I plan to supplement with Saxon and Barron's Algebra the Easy Way for word problems. However, I want a clear initial presentation of the basics that progresses logically. This book delivers in a very pleasing way.

Thank you, Stephen Jahnke!

It is so good that we simply refer to it as "The Good book" because everything that comes out of it is goooood! Lots of pictures, easy to follow receipes, and a wonderful index. This book has lots of receipes that look fantastic, taste even better and are easy to make. But my favorite thing about this book is the index...I know what you are thinking, what kind of kook likes the index?? Well, let me tell you. Not only is it listed alphebetical by name but also by catagory and subject. If I have chicken breasts, I simply look under chicken breasts and voila! A list of all the receipes that use chicken breasts! If I am making brunch, I can easily flim through the brunch section and pick out something. I love it! This book is like a cooking bible! Some of my favorites are pecan pumpkin torte, barbecued shrimp with spicy rice and pork roast with sausage and spinach stuffing.

As a custom knifemaker I'm always excited to see new publications related to the collected works of knifemaking. Of very special interest to me are those books which focus on the art and ingenuity of custom art knives; books which explore the art not only with good photography of quality knives but also with accompanying text providing insight into the methods and intent of the maker. Truly this area of artistic endeavor has been but scarcely examined and over the years I've found only a few books which approach these criteria and which, for the most part, now sit on my bookshelves. There have, however, been two books I've come to treasure above the others; Art and Design in Modern Custom Fixed-Blade Knives and Art and Design in Modern Custom Folding Knives, both by Dr. David Darom.

In these books can be found not only the exquisite photography which occurs occasionally in other collective works but also a depth of writing exploring the knifemaker and his focus on the knives being regarded. With his writing Dr. Darom provides rare and wonderful insight into the world of knives which transports the reader, both those experienced as well as novice, to a higher level of understanding the unique experience of knifemaking. His critical selection of art knives and insistence on only the highest quality of photographs reproduced using top quality printing methods and materials have created the finest art knife books I have ever owned. Coupled with Darom's focus on quality is Amazon.com's ability to bring this treasure to the public for an amazingly low price. I applaud Dr. Darom's efforts and welcome the long awaited USA release of Art and Design in Modern Custom Folding Knives. It is my hope Dr. Darom continues to explore the rich and diverse field of custom knifemaking and finds it worthy of producing future volumes not unlike this one.

In short; Art and Design in Modern Custom Folding Knives is without a doubt indispensable to both professional and the enthusiast alike. This book is of such fine quality I truly must wonder at the ability to offer it for so low a price and advance the suggestion this serves to make it the perfect unique table book or addition to any fine art book collection.

I want to say right up front that I am David Darom's partner in his third knife book, "The Art of Modern Custom Knifemaking, 100 Custom Knife Related Projects in the Making" (soon to be released). I very much wanted to write this review, but because of my current relationship with David I was concerned that some might question my motives. But I can tell you that I would not have even met David had it not been for this incredible book.

I first heard about "Art & Design in Modern Custom Folders" a couple of months prior to its release. I am a part-time knifemaker, and a member of a group of online forums that are devoted to custom knifemaking. David had "teased" us with sample photos from his soon-to-be-released book. And the preliminary taste worked...Like most of our 7000+ members, I was more than a little bit intrigued.

Hard bound, printed in Italy, 260 full-color pages filled with breathtaking photos of the some of the most exquisite knives in the world... The book sounded incredible and I couldn't wait to get my hands on a copy. And so with the single-minded goal of acquiring my own copy, when the book had its world premier at New York's annual East Coast Custom Knife Show, I drove up with a few friends.

When we arrived I made a beeline for David's table...I was fortunate enough to meet him, if only for a few minutes (he was swamped with fellow enthusiasts trying to get their own copies). The meeting was brief but enjoyable...and I got what I came for...my own signed copy of the exciting new book.

As soon as I got home I dove in...Every page was a delight and I spent hours and hours fully immersed. David's love for his subject matter was apparent...Never before had we seen such a collection of photos...no props, no distracting backgrounds, just page after page of beautifully-done, world class photography, that showed off the knives in all of their glorious detail.

Needless-to-say, I couldn't wait to tell all of my online friends about this wonderful new book and I posted my own review, followed by much discussion. This ultimately led to an ongoing, long-distance correspondence with David. We became good friends. Several months later he asked me to write an article for his second knife book,"Art and Design in Modern Custom Fixed-Blade knives"...and that experience eventually led to our partnership in the 3rd book.

Not a week goes by when I don't refer to my copy of "Art & Design in Modern Custom Folding Knives"...The pages are now quite dog-eared. I have a sizeable collection of knife-related books and magazines, but this is easily my single, most often used resource for inspiration and ideas.

Am I prejudiced? Absolutely! But I can say without reservation that for overall production value and presentation, David has set the bar high with this book. Nothing else out there comes close. The skill and love that went into the making of this magnificent "coffee table" book of museum quality, folding art knives is unequaled. This masterpiece led me to David...And I am honored to have become his friend and associate.

It is impossible to glance at even one page of this book without being completely drawn in. If you are a knife enthusiast, or if you simply appreciate any form of extraordinary art and craftsmanship, this book is a joy to own.

I have known and worked with Ed Primeau, the author of this book, since I started my speaking businesses in 1993. This guy is an experienced professional and knows what he is talking about. In fact, he is the first person to ever professionally audio tape my speeches, and has filmed and produced several videos for me. Together we have created both demos and products and I can say that it has been one of the most enduring friendships and business relationships I have ever had. Not only is he a great audio and video producer, he is also a great friend, an honest business person, a creative force and the ultimate cheerleader for those he works with. I could not recommend him or his new book more, and I look forward to many more years of his expertise and friendship.
