I've read countless other books about saving, investing and spending. This is one of the best, if not the best book so far...please try these tactics, I do. Use some of them,They work ...WELL!

This book is a good way to mix satire with your money. Yet, if you want real finacial information look elsewhere. If you want some simple referances this book has some redeming values. If your money is a joke to you look at this book.

A daily task or 365 ways to save money works if you can stay focused that long. Yet, this is life and one person saying they can do it doesn't alway work for other peoples money. Specifics other than an author saying me, me, me all the time is how I have learned to invest.

Hello. I'm Donn Pearlman, and I'm the author of "Best Buys in Rare Coins: What Expert Dealers and Collectors Advise." It was enjoyable to write, and at the time it came out -- way, way back in 1990 -- it was informative and useful.

Coin collecting is still fun, and people can make money with prudent purchases of rare coins and bank notes. There are still nuggets of useful info in my book, but it's long outdated. You won't find a word about the Internet in any chapters. You can buy the book at the deeply discounted prices you'll find for it these days, and read what experts have to say about various coins and get "a feel" for the enjoyment of the hobby.

Then, purchase one the very best, up-to-date books about numismatics: "The Coin Collector's Survival Manual" (fifth edition, 2006) by Scott A. Travers. That book will save you money, and perhaps make you money. I know Scott personally, and he's a straight shooter, consumer advocate. The New York Times once described him as "the Ralph Nadar of numismatics."

Happy collecting,
-donn-

Although well written and researched, this book was a let down for me. I expected a slew of clear pictures with maybe some color shots, but had to settle for poorly developed black and white shots that left me wanting.
The second factor was the repetition of facts. We all know every Chevy dealer sold Corvairs.....why shove it in our face every chapter?
All in all, I think this book could well be skipped by Chevy fans.

Better Books Out There

This book takes what many would consider a mid level drug dealer and the search for him across the world - hence the "Marco Polo" tag. Well the villain here is not that bad so it is hard to get excited about the chase. He is no choirboy to be sure, but he is not a Pablo Escobar either. The detail of the police tactics used is interesting. The disappointing thing to me was the detail of how disjointed law enforcement is in the western world, nobody wants to work with any other countries? The book is ok and you can probably guess what happens in the end. If you are interested in this type of story, Killing Pablo by Mark Bowden is far better and more up to date.

...but that's about the only advantage. This book is not at all thorough enough to take hunting for actual identification of finds. Very general info w/ very bad photos.

Unconvincing plot, unsympathetic characters, and a feeling that the author is at all times referring to a manual on mystery writing. It did keep me wanting to know "what happens next" long enough to get to the end, but I don't plan to seek out more by this author. This book is ersatz du Maurier more than ersatz Christie.

Roy Heath is a nice writer. He probably made so much unexpected money on "Kwaku" that he thought:"What the heck, let's continue this". Washed out and no good.

If you are looking for usable information, don't look here. I can't believe this was offered for sale. It is a basic overview of a business without anything of interest or value.

The characters are trite, the main character boring and without any redeeming value, and the story slogged along without excitement. I read about 100 pages, then the last chapter, and that was enough for me. Perhaps somebody else will find it interesting, or think it has psychological intrique; I found it unreadable.
