Bucyrus International has built heavy excavating machinery for over a hundred years: it began in 1880 building equipment and became the leading supplier of draglines, shovels and drills for the mining industry, purchasing competitors and today building about 90 percent of the walking draglines in existence. Mergers, pivotal changes, and construction techniques are detailed along with plenty of color and vintage photos in BUCYRUS, of interest to any in the equipment industry.

The book outlines the progress of the company and its machines such as drilling rigs, stripping shovels of the '60's, electric rope shovels and draglines. A must for any heavy machine enthusiest.

Great pictures, simple text. We've taken this book out of the library so often, the library thinks we own it. Well...now we will!

Probably one of the best books we own!

If you have a boy who loves building machines, this book is a definite must. There isn't a storyline in it - it's just full of building machines operated by Teddy bears, with descriptions of what they're doing, what the machines are used for, and how they actually work. They're cartoons, but it's so informative, that my little guy just loves knowing what all the machines do. He even knows what rebar is now! I can't say enough how neat this book is and what a great find it is too. My personal favorite is the underwater bulldozer. Who knew that existed?! A great, great book and something every little boy should own. I'm going back for more in this series!

The BEST and ONLY book of its kind!

I have wanted to make my own snowshoes since I was 14 years old but did not know how. I stumbled upon this book about a year ago and knew this is what I was looking for. I have read it several times and am in the process of building my steam box. This is the best, and as far as I can tell, only book on how to build snowshoe. It is extremely clear on the lacing and frame building proceedures. Thanks Gil!

Having misspent a great deal of time in the outdoors from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Alaska Range, I've wanted a quality pair of snowshoes for some time - and let's face it: plastic just doesn't cut it for serious outdoors gear, and neither do the mass-produced snowshoes meant to be hung over the fireplace - if you want good gear, build it yourself! This book is a detailed shop guide to building a pair of snowshoes that will beat anything you can buy. The directions are clear and well illustrated, and perhaps best of all the auther doesn't assume that you're a master woodworker with a complete shop at your disposal. There are several other books on how to build snowshoes (I have several of them), but my advice is don't waste your time looking for them - get this book first and use the time you saved to build a pair of snowshoes!

Yes, this book is adorable. The pictures are wonderful. They range from images of canaries eating in a large group, to canaries at a show, to canaries in cages, to a canary-breeding room, canaries in nests, canaries canaries!!

This book is very detailed, and covers bird accomodations, nutrition, breeding, history, illness prevention and cure, type canaries, color canaries, and song canaries.

There are examples, very well photographed, of many of the type and color canaries.

He is a real fan of song canaries, and gives interesting examples of the types of song, the breeds of song-canaries, and their potential.

Just like the visual support for the color and type canaries goes beyond mere description, I would have loved to have a supplementary song-cd to go with the last chapter. It is inspiring, and than it leaves you off, wondering about this magical sound that he describes.

Very cute, very nice, relaxing book; a journey into the world of canaries.

Most comprehensive canary book.....

I recently expanded my bird collection to include two canaries and as I knew little about these pet birds, I purchased several books on the subject from Amazon. According to Barron's THE CANARY HANDBOOK which I have found the most useful of the four books I bought, there are three kinds of canaries: "type", "song" or "color". My birds (two bright yellow brothers) are supposed to be song canaries, but according to the breeder, the dominant one will do most of the singing. Apparently, girl canaries don't sing but not all boy canaries can carry a pleasant tune.

Barron's handbook is filled with many up-close photos showing the many different kinds of canaries as well as various stages of development including breeding tips. In a charming chapter entitled 'Understanding the Canary' the handbook shares some history of the domesticated bird along with a little bit of information about canaries in the wild. The handbook says the canary has been domesticated for five centuries and breeding and marketing these birds via peddlers once formed the chief industry of the Harz region of German Black Forest.

The handbook includes a section on `Feeding Canaries' and discusses "color" feeding. Beginning in 1870, cayenne pepper was mixed with canary seed to improve the red color of the Norwich and Yorkshire canaries. Later on, breeders and owners discovered sweet red peppers were more effective. The authors of this handbook suggest mixing canthaxanthin in egg yolk. This handbook includes many similar tips for helping your canary obtain the best food and care.

Gil Gilpatrick's Canoe Guide's Handbook is a "must have" for anyone interested in canoe trips. It's not just for people who want to become canoe guides. My wife and I regularly canoe the waters of Southeast Alaska. We have found Gil's book to be as useful and practical in Alaska as it is in Gil's home state of Maine. I've used this easy to read and down-to-earth book to help plan several canoe camping trips. The information and techniques presented are simple and effective.

The best advice on canoe tripping I,ve read.

This book gives the best advice for wilderness canoeists that I,ve read in my 28 yrs. of paddling. I.ve just met the author on a wilderness canoe trip in Maine and he mentioned wishing to make a few revisions and updates concerning environmental pollution. It's great to know that he and his wife are still running canoe trips in Maine. I recommend all his books to anyone interested in outdoor woodcraft, and the history of the Maine Woods.

The book holds nearly 500 pages and the text is supported by plenty of usefull illustrations and tables. It covers pacing therapy and the indications for internal defibrillators. Although the space is limited you will find a good discussion of details such as venous access and the various causes of cardiac syncope. The text often gives a historic perspective on the use of leads and generators and it is generally well written. It can be recommended for the clinical cardiologist who is not specially trained in electrophysiology but who needs a better understanding of modern pacing therapy. It is allways a problem to by books on a subject that changes so very fast. But if you need a survey this is the best way to do it. This book deserves to be read accordingly. It is a very nice book.

We can know that water problem is not lying in the future but now. Especially Dead Sea basin is the source of armed conflicts over years. The Aral Sea problem shows no sighn to recover.
As previous reviewer said, this books let you blue. But it's necessary to think over the water management problem for our future.

Water is the main issue of our security in 21st century.

i bought this UN publication for research into my Masters thesis on Caspian pipelines. I was curious about the impact that such hydrocarbon exploration could have on the environment. I need not of worried the ecology of Central Asia is already beyound hope.

This book is technical yet informative - and sad to read - it reminded me of a chapter in James Critchlows book on Uzbelistan about the rape of the environment. Divided into 5 sections of which 2 focus on the Aral, and the Caspian and a third on the Dead Seas - the other 2 sections proved and introduction and a final commeentary on the role of IGOs.

There are some colour satellite image maps and photographs, useful charts and there are useful recommendations made by some contributors.

It is very useful in relation to the Caspian that until recently ecological and environmental concerns were not adequately addressed - this book is a must for any seeking a factual analysis of the water crisis that is already here. Other newer books may seek to cover topical material but this is a must for those who want regional commentary on the problem. I recommend it.

I bought this book to help me with my UFI to CFI-SP transition. It presents clear explanations of the content that will be covered by the test questions. It doesn't waste much time on content that is not on the test. Each and every FAA question is listed with the answers on the bottom of the page. Explanations are also given as to why each answer is right or wrong. There's no way I would have passed the written if I had not studied this book first.

The book did well to walk me through repairing my washer. It does a good job on the moving parts and a great job on the electronic parts, especially for the novice.
It could be better by going into some preventitive maintenance topics. I felt there were probably some additional things I could have done while I had the machine opened up and taken apart.
I saved between $100.00-$150.00 by fixing it myself.

A must for Users and Providers
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2000-08-17
Bierma and Waterstraat have very accurately described a proven outsourcing process to reduce both chemical usage and chemical costs. The book is excellent for newcomers looking to use chemical management as a tool to reduce usage and costs but has enough information for those that are using chemical management to improve their programs. At any level the book offers "practical and proven" examples to illustrate implementation and documented the results. The authors have cleverly descibed the total life cycle costs associated with chemical use and why it make both economical and environmental sense to implement chemical management. If you are a user of chemicals or a supplier of chemicals this book challenges you to look outside of traditional buy/sell relationships and move towards outsourced chemical management. This book sets the stage for a rapidly growing industry that is no longer a trend but a very effective management discipline. It's a must for users and providers of chemicals.
