I absolutely Love this book. I had soooo much fun looking up all of the different CPT codes...both for college (at New England Institute of Technology) and for my online college school (called US Career Institute).

Now in an updated and expanded second edition, Creating An Inclusive School is the collaborative editorial effort of education specialist Richard A. Villa and special education credential and masters programs coordinator Jacqueline S. Thousand (College of Education, California State University, San Marcos). Inclusive education, loosely defined as a process by which schools strive to give an education to all students with disabilities in such a manner that the differently abled students are not excluded from the general student body or separately schooled as little as possible, is described and presented as more than a series of strategies; it is a belief system that promotes and optimum educational environment for all. Individual essays by a diverse assortment of experts discuss such issues as the rationales for creating and maintaining inclusive schools, promising practices that foster inclusive education, practical advice concerning inclusive education, "voices of inclusion" individual and community testimonies. An excellent overview and resource guide especially recommended for teachers, principals, and other educational professionals.

This book provides all the answers for people who think inclusion can't work--that it's too expensive, that parents of typically-developing kids will reject it, that severely disabled kids won't get anything from it.
While I appreciated all the "how-to's" and a clear description of the philosophy behind true inclusion, I found most inspiring the true stories of how children with very involved disabilities grew, learned and became friends with their classmates through an effective inclusion model.
This is a must-read for both parents and educators.

Mediavilla provides librarians with what they need to know in order to create a fun and effective public library homework center. She includes such things as sample surveys, recruitment flyers, application forms, staff and volunteer job descriptions, and grant applications. She also provides creative funding examples from around the country, advice on how to collaborate with schools and educators, and guidelines for collection development to meet the needs of the homework center. (summary by South TX Library System)
I wish I'd had this guide in hand when we set up our homework center. It might have saved us some of the aggravations that we finally resolved through trial and error. Marketing a homework center in your library is a real draw and builds community support for the library.

This book is an excellent guide to establishing homework programs in public libraries; very direct, quite easy to follow and interesting enough to hold the attention of the most jaded library board member. An excellent collection of material around which to center a funding campaign. Half your work has already been done for you by the author.

My God, I write books on creative thinking, for example, "Thinkertoys: A Handbook of Creative Thinking Techniques," and this book by Sternberg is definitely a five star book which is excellent and informative. Why it is priced this high is beyond me. I mean let's get real and price it to the market and not to what some academic idiot thinks its worth. No book is worth this kind of money. Anyway, it's excellent. Check it out at the library and spend the money on something else, like take your loved one out to dinner.

Joseph Krug's insightful and thought provoking opus, "Credit and Free Enterprise: A Chance to Survive" is even more relevant now than it was at the time of its publication in 1977. The author's depth and breadth of knowledge on this topic seems endless. As one of the few people in the world to actually possess a copy of this priceless classic I treasure it as one of the most prized volumes in my business library. The following quote from page 64 of this book summarizes the authors thoughts perfectly, "Our country cannot survive on free lunches eaten by free-loaders sponsored by free thinkers." Amen Joe Krug, Amen.

Customer Service Excellence is a concise, yet thorough, guide for librarians interested in providing outstanding service focused on the patron as customer. A Professor Emeritus of Library and Information Studies, Weingand begins with customer-centered business theories and applies them to libraries, focusing on the needs of the library customer and determining excellent library service. Such practical topics as improving communication, solving problems, resolving conflicts, empowering staff, and implementing teams are explored as management techniques that encourage libraries to have a more customer-centered organizational culture. Each chapter includes a library scenario and a "What Would You do?" feature to encourage thought and discussion; there is an excellent bibliography for further reading included. The book concludes with strategies for continuing success. This is an excellent resource for librarians wanting a quick overview of methods used in today's rapidly changing environment by successful, customer-centered businesses.

In 1950, John W. Nichols created the world's first public oil and gas drilling fund registered with the Securities & Exchange Commission. The novel idea, which attracted some of the nations wealthiest investors, changed the way drilling programs were funded. As a young CPA, Nichols had become intrigued with the petroleum industry and how he could legally shelter income of Americans who were being gouged by high tax rates.
Nichols' poineering efforts in financing oil and gas operations had a dramatic, worldwide impact on the energy industry. For his efforts, Nichols has been called one of the 100 most influential individuals in petroleum history.
Nichols' creation, Devon Energy Corporation, is now a $21 billion company and the nation's largest oil and natural gas company, producing four percent of the natural gas used in America.
This is the story of an exceptional innovator, shrewd entrepreneur, generous philanthropist, devoted father, loving husband, and a man of deep religious faith who always played by the rules and lived the American dream.

An extraordinarily informative and detailed book. The Book answers almost all the questions you might have about the application of the Rules. The Rules of golf often seem simple, but their application can be difficult. Additionally, some of the rules are quite arcane, verbose, and difficult to understand. Yet, Decisions on the Rules of Golf contains actual questions from actual players, and actual answers from the USGA -- over 600 pages of questions and answers! All of which are divided according to various rules and their subparts. A very helpful index makes it easy to find quickly any answer to any question you might have. Additionally, the book sets out each pertinent rule verbatim at the beginning of each chapter. All of the definitions needed to understand the Rules are set forth and all Rulings on what each definition means are included as well. The strangest thing about this book is not only that it is informative and detailed, but that it can also make quite entertaining reading. It doesn't take too long before you realize that the almost all of the questions concern actual events that actually happened to some unfortunate soul, along with the USGA rulings about what the correct application of the rule should have been in those circumstances. For example, Greg Norman was recently disqualified for hitting a provisional ball after he hit his drive into a water hazard, found his first ball playable when he got to the hazard, and then played his first ball -- all perfectly acceptable if a provisional ball were allowed to be played after hitting your ball into a water hazard. Reading the rule on hitting into a water hazards and the rule on playing a provisional ball (I don't have my Decisions on the Rules of Golf by my side when I'm writing this review, they are in my golf bag where they should be, so I can't tell you what the specific Rule numbers are), a normal person could eventually discern the fact that provisional balls can be played only in certain circumstances, and that those circumstances do not include water hazards. But rather than having to page back and forth between two or three different rules, you could simply have looked up this question in the index to the Decisions on the Rules of Golf, and found that it forms the basis for several questions and answers in the book. Let me give you another example. Let's say you're playing to an elevated green where you cannot see the green's surface, but you can see the flagstick. You hit to the flagstick only to discover when you climb to the green that some joker has taken the flagstick out of the hole and jammed it into the other side of the green 50 feet from the hole. Do you get relief? Read the book and find out. Many even stranger events form the basis of the questions and answers, along with the questions and answers to more common questions. I highly recommend this book, and although it is approximately an inch and a half thick, it fits easily into most golf bags. It ought to be a required possession of every clubhouse.
