Veerman has written an excellent book to help the reader understand how to apply biblical concepts to everyday living.

Among the important points covered include:

1. What application isn't and steps to application.
2. True Bible application involves both study and action.
3. Excellent notes on the 7 literary types of the Books of the Bible: (history, law, poetry and wisdom, prophecy, gospels, epistles, and Apocalypse) and how to apply them.
4. Application techniques.
5. 3 ways to find application for your class or church.
6. Reasons for weak applications and misconceptions of application.
7. Sprinkling applications through the lesson and sermon.
8. Using the present, parallels, priorities, and plan to apply Bible passages to our lives.

All in all, an excellent and highly recommended book to help you learn how to apply the Bible to your life!

Read and enjoy.

I enjoyed this book immensely. It was refreshing to note that the "brief psychodynamic" perspective detailed by Book did not refer at all to the Freudian model of the psyche (id - ego - superego). Indeed the model presented could as easily have been termed "interpersonal relationship therapy", as there was little to betray its psychodynamic roots. Book had no need for the traditional psychodynamic model in order to use this therapeutic modality so, citing parsimony, he left it out.

Thomas Leech's book, How to Prepare, Stage and Deliver Winning Presentations, 3rd Edition, is a 'must read' for any presenter. It applies to all speaking forums - large or small (customers, corporate, Board of Directors, employees and even informal team meetings). The "15 fundamentals" make it easy to learn, practice and refine your skills, resulting in improved, successful presentations.

Best and most complete book on business presentations

Thomas Leech is a nationally known consultant on presentation making. In this book he distills his years of experience into a single volume of useful information. The book is packed with tremendously valuable information to make sure that your presentation is a winner.
No stone is left unturned as he goes through a complete system for creating the presentation. Not only are the technical aspects discussed but also gauging your audience and customizing your presentation to meet the needs of the audience. He even covers special problems in presentation such as an international presentation.
This is the best book on putting together a successful presentation that I have seen. Whether you are presenting an position internally to change the direction of a business or externally to generate new business this book is extremely useful. For generating additional business and presentations to potential customers I would recommend using it in combination with Tom Sant's book on Proposal writing. A winning presentation and a winning proposal results in winning business.

Best book I have read on the subject.

While working on an assignment for a graduate level managerial communications class, I browsed several books on business presentations. Mr. Leech's book was the one I chose to use. It provides a wealth of information, while being very readable. Reading this book added to the knowledge I gained from the class. This book will become a valuble part of my business library.

This book is a great synthesis of the spiritual life and is good for all Christians. P. Marie-Eugene explains all the facets of Carmelite spirituality in a very down-to-earth, practical way. He takes the reader through all of the different stages of the spiritual life (purgative, illuminative, unitive) with the aid of spiritual powerhouses like Sts. Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross. It is also a good primer for those seeking a foundation in spiritual theology; it also serves well as a moral theology text.

It is a great summary and an easy to grasp digest of Carmelite Spirituality. It is a wonderful read either individually, in a book club format, or with a Spiritual Director. The subtitle explains the goal of the book: A Practical Synthesis of Carmelite Spirituality. This information can become practical knowledge by answering to these questions after each chapter: What does this mean to me? How can I implement this information in my life? It is a priceless book for those who search for truth and want to grow in the love of God.

I first read this book when I was in college, and fell in love with it. I still read it about once a year, just to stay in touch with it. It's the best book I've ever found on goal-setting and establishing a place in the world for oneself--it packs a maximum amount of wisdom into the minimum number of words and does so in a way that is very enjoyable to read.

I've heard the title of this book quoted for years. When I saw a copy at my inlaws house, I decided to read it.

Although it doesn't take lots of time to read, the return on time invested can be incredible. This is probably the best book I've read on goal setting--and I've read a ton.

I particularly like Campbell's realistic approach. He doesn't try to get you to squeeze your life into a predetermined, micromanaged mold. Instead, he offers lots of advice on how to increase your options as you go through life.

I'll be getting this book for my favorite high school grads for sure. But if you're a little past high school, as I am, don't count yourself out. This book could help just about anyone.

Fantastic - required reading for EVERY highschool student!

This book helps you to understand the things you should consider throughout your teenage years, or even later, that will influence your adult life. It particularly focuses on choosing a career. The primary point is how to ensure you get and keep lots of options open throughout your life. Although it's really written for highschool students, college students would find it useful also. Actually, it's valuable even for adults. Very easy reading; only takes about an hour to read, but is well worth the time.

If you're the kind of person who has ever picked this book up, you covet it. You know you do.

I've had this book for a year or two and can still wile away hours just flipping through. The illustrations are beautiful and if you don't find it here (and you're in Yosemite), you've probably misidentified it. Includes most invasive species even.

That said, if you're not an amateur botanist, you'll be sorely challenged to find much of anything in here. It is arranged taxonomically, so you can't look up flowers by things like color. If you can't use the dichotomous key, you'll end up doing a LOT of searching and often not a lot of finding. Often, if you can't get beyond whether or not the plant has superior or inferior ovaries, you literally hardly narrow the choices down at all.

Oh by the way, this book is probably at least 5 pounds and won't even fit in the average day pack. This is by no means a field guide!

We purchased this book in Yosemite and talked with Stephen Botti at length. He is a conscientious student, and now master, of Yosemite plants. Before our hike, we studied his book and were rewarded on the trail with plants he described. The book is full of color pictures; a nice reminder of what we saw in Yosemite this summer on those cold days back home in winter.

How innovation really works
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2005-01-25
If you're looking for a definitive guide to the way that innovation really works, then this book is for you. With decades of experience as a successful innovator, including 25 years at 3M, Mr. Gaynor knows the subject well.

There are abundant gems of wisdom in this book, many of which challenge conventional thinking about innovation. As Gaynor emphasizes, every organization needs to innovate, and innovation must permeate every department of the organization. Innovation is only meaningful when it is oriented to customers and produces beneficial results in the marketplace.

While the entire book is excellent, two chapters offer great quick takes on innovation. Chapter 11, "The Virtual Innovation Prevention Department," is a roadmap for how to kill innovation, and Chapter 13, "Making Innovation Happen" is the guide for how to make innovation work in the real world.

I enthusiastically recommend this book for anyone who is serious about promoting innovation in their jobs and organizations. Come to think of it, that should describe us all!

This text is a great treatment of the topic of innovation. Innovation often seems as a random event or personal characteristic. Mr. Gaynor's book describes a more structured framework by which innovation can be approached, encouraged, and fostered. It describes how organizations can be formally, although possibly unconsciously, resistant to innovation in products and processes. The first chapter is required reading and the chapter on the Innovation Prevention Department would be funny if it did not ring so true. A keeper.

This book is an excellent treatment of the topic of innovation. Innovation is a difficult subject to address because it is believed that innovation is a characteristic that either exists or does not. Mr. Gaynor's book put structure to it and describes ways that organizations are formally, even if unconsciously, opposed to innovation and how it can be remedied. The first chaper should be required reading and the chapter on the "Innovation Prevention Department" would be funny if it did not point out painful realities. A keeper.

Essential Reading To Comprehend Mid East

Review Date: 2003-09-19
Written in 1990,one might think that this book is incredibly out of date and of little relevance. To the contrary, the book contains a wealth of information which is still extremely appropriate for our understanding of current events involving the PLO.

The book describes how Yasser Arafat, after being driven out of Lebanon in 1982, travelled the World with all of the fanfare and honour normally accorded a head of state. Despite, as is described here, the extensive knowledge of his involvement in International terrorism with Arafat even being described as the " father" of international terror and the "inventor" of aircraft hi-jackings.

This book contains often shocking information, often from intelligence sources, about Yasser Arafat & his followers plus the complex structure of the PLO and it's International machinations. Besides the many terrorist elements revealed are also the "protection rackets" and extortions which have helped the PLO to become the richest terrorist organisation in the entire World whilst ordinary Palestinians are allowed by their leadership to live in squalor. The book also reveals the direct involvement of Yasser Arafat in the murders of at least two US Ambassadors. The book pulls no punches in describing how the PLO under Yasser Arafat has lined up politically and militarily with the enemies of the USA.

The book, which as stated was written in 1990, states that even then Arafat had yet to demonstrate his ability or desire to "police" his own community and provide the kind of assurances necessary for Israel to take him at his word. (Page 29). The book elaborating that a PLO ruled state in the "West Bank" and Gaza might "might even turn out to be an even greater source of instability than the present stateless PLO...".

The book also queries the potential relationship of such a future state with what would be "neighbouring" Jordan, whose population is described as mostly Palestinian. The possible dangers and potential "military alliances" are voiced.

The book describes, how even over a decade ago, public appearances of Yasser Arafat were carefully orchestrated to downplay his "terrorist" image and to make him appear more benign and "statesmanlike". It being further stated that Arafat's "handlers" were always careful to ensure that he looked the part of the "victim".

Much of the PLO's history is documented from it's establishment in 1964, including the "Black September" conflict with Jordan where some six to ten thousand Palestinians are stated as having lost their lives in fighting with Jordanian forces, before the PLO was forcibly ejected. The book describing the end of a "state within a state" in Jordan and the beginning of a "state within a state" in Lebanon.

The book reveals Yasser Arafat to have been born in Cairo, Egypt in 1928 with the name of Abed a-Rachman Abed a-Rauf Arafat al-Qudwah al-Husseini. Also illustrated are his claims, based on political expediency, to have been born in "Palestine" in both Gaza & Jerusalem. The book depicted how, early in life, Arafat dropped any reference to his last name to distance himself from what the book describes as "his illustrious relative" Haj Amin al-Husseini who collaborated with Adolf Hitler during World War 2 & the "final solution" to the "Jewish problem".

The book describes the internal structure of the PLO, it's constituent elements and it's relationship to other terrorist organisations throughout the World, plus it's "secret agenda" pertaining to Israel and the Palestinian National Charter that calls for the eradication of Israel.

I respectfully recommend that all those interested in the "peace process" obtain a copy of this book.

I used to design open channel (and pipework based) hydraulic systems for a living in the UK. This is by far the most comprehensible (and comprehensive) collection of loss data for different types of fittings I ever saw. I used them regularly. The author is/was affiliated with the British Hydraulics Research Center at Wallingford (UK) - home of the famous Wallingford charts. They are an excellent buy if you can find them.

This book is by far the most comprehensive text describing hydraulic losses in flow sytems that I have come across. It includes many different configurations, such as bends, diffusers, dividing flow, and combining flow. All information is presented in an easy to follow graphical format. Consideration for different flow conditions is made, such as if fully developed flow does not occur on the upstream or downstream ends of the elements being considered. I definitely recommend this text to anyone needing to calculate hydraulic losses.

This is the second edition of THE book on copulas; there are others, eg Joe, and Drouet and Kotz, but this is the best reference work I know of on this topic. The second edition does not frankly have a huge amount of new content; the most obvious is the very useful set of scatterplots used to illustrate the appearance of copulas. This I think shows up some properties like symmetry better than equations could do. If I had purchased the first edition, I probably wouldn't feel it had been worth upgrading---it depends on how deeply you are `into' this topic. On the other hand it's reassuring that there hasn't been a lot of recent work we didn't know about!

I thoroughly recommend this book, and, if I meet the author, I shall reckon that he owes me a drink.
