I recommend this book to basketball fans because it tells a lot about great former players. from wilt chamberlain's 100-point game to jerry west's 60 foot jumper to michael jordan's buzzer-beater vs cleveland in the 1989 playoffs. it also has duels like magic vs bird and iverson vs carter. this 180 paged book is filled with all those facts. RECOMMENDED!!!

If you are an avid professional basketball fan like me who appreciates the history of the game, you should know that there are so many captivating memories surviving to this day. This book focuses on the more prominent players and plays of the NBA's past and present; the buzzerbeaters that have won championships, the slam dunks that defied gravity, the amazing assists that made you wonder if he could see through his head. All these memories come alive again in NBA's Greatest. From James Naismith's invention of basketball to George Mikan, Bill Russell,'Houdini of the Hardwood' Bob Cousy and the early dominance of the Minneapolis Lakers and Boston Celtics, to the era of great swingman such as Dr. J, Magic Johnson, and Larry Bird, to the continuity of today's superstars, this book has them all.
There are some feats in professional basketball that you simply never forget, such as Jerry West's last minute heave from sixty feet out, or Willis Reed's comeback in the 1970 NBA Finals, or when Michael Jordan executed a flying dunk from the free-throw line, or when Anthony 'Spud' Webb won the slam dunk contest standing at 5'7". This book reviews those highlights in great detail, plus extra statistics that summarize the changes that have taken place over a century.

An awesome basketball book. I just love it. Informs one about the best players ever in the NBA, from guys like Cousy, to Wilt, Jordan, to Ewing, and Duncan to Kidd. Also, shows the best NBA duels from Bird vs. Magic, to Iverson vs. Carter. Don't forget about the best teams ever assembled in the NBA like the 95'-96' Chicago Bulls. Then, read about the best guys to ever lead their team to glory . . . the coaches. Daly, Jackson, Auerbach, Wilekns, Riley . . . you can find them all here. And finally, catch up on the best momenets ever. Remember "Havlicek stole the ball" and the year Oscar Robertson AVERAGED a triple-double. Well, there all here in this book.

Definitely a book that all basketball lovers should own.

THE BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NBA's Greatest
by John Havlicek
This book is about the greatest NBA players of all time. It is also about the greatest games. Also it tells about the best teams in the league.
I think an interesting part is when Scotty Pippen told about Dirk Nowitski. Here are some words he said, `' He's definitely shown me a different dimension in the power forward game,'' said Pippen.''He's probably the only power forward that I've seen that can do the things he does being a 7 footer.''
I think that people who like basketball would like to read this book. Also if someone just wants to read about certain players in basketball , and he's a legend, this would be the book for them. Finally if you want to find out about the greatest moments in basketball look at this book.
I would give this book a 10 out of 10 because it is a good book to read. If you want to learn about the NBA's Greatest check here.

I'm a multi sport athlete who trains all year round regardless of what sport I play. I bought a few of these Ultimate Guide to Weight Training books, and they definitely helped me train specifically for the different sports that I play. Then about a year later I received an email from amazon that there was a new edition out. These upgraded editions are even better than the originals, with more articles and a lot more sport-specific information. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone who plays a lot of sports or wants to specifically focus on training for one sport in particular.

I was recommended this book from a friend of mine who is also a soccer nut like myself. I found that this book clearly outlines how the individual player can exponentially increase their level of effectiveness on the pitch. Besides improving my general performance on the field by increasing my level of stamina, strength, and flexibility, I found that this book serves as a very good starting points for players of all abilities and ages.

This book provides advice narrowly tailored towards soccer players. Where other books fail to provide advice about how one can prevent injures and make training fun, this book undoubtedly succeeds!!! Overall, a great buy.

Its been a long time that I've found a book to be as functional as this one. It outlines soccer specific programs that are easy to follow and even easier to understand. My efficiency in the weightroom has increased ten fold, and I am now faster and more powerful than ever before. Also, I am quicker and able to make sharper cuts on the field and can jump higher now to reach up for difficult headers. All in all, this is a great book that I would recommend to anyone interested in enhancing their soccer playing performance.

Betsy and Mary-Jean have done a great service to the Campground and the Camp-Meeting Association by providing such insight and memories of the Campground experience. The true flavor of the Campgrounds has been captured in this marvelous book. Photos and script leads the reader through the delightful history of this endearing place. Watching it change over the past fifty years, I can say it never looked better. Although long overdue, the talents of these two gals brings the Campground to life. A book to be cherished.

I read this in college a couple years back in an english class. I had always seen war from the winner's side, forgetting the pain and heartache felt by the opposition. This work made me reflect on how horrible and devastating war can be. I recommend this reading to anyone interested in exploring the complex results of winning a war.

I first read The War Prayer when I was in college during the Viet Nam era, and now am using it to teach my children about war. Schools teach students the "glories" of war. Sam Clements shows us there is another side to this coin. Would that we could learn his lesson before it is too late.

Required reading for everyone.

The universality of this book should provide ample evidence of the senseless and futile excercise of "war". I doubt anyone who has been to war can read this to no effect. If one had no knowledge of the writer it would be impossible to date the story. It could apply at any time in the past or future.

Mark Twain's lesson- "be careful what you pray for you may just get it" comes through loud and clear in this poem he would not publish during his life. I first read it during Vietnam and handed out multiple copies... This is more than a poem its an anthem against war. The sepia drawings in this addition add greatly to the message.

..The best example of opposing viewpoints ever written.

Mark Twain's The War Prayer forces us to examine the hypocrisy that lies beneath our patriotism. It either shatters our comfort zone and leaves us reeling with a feeling of shame that we can be so inhumane to others, or it compels us to place the "lunatic" burden out of print. The War Prayer should be mandatory reading for high school students.

After decades of attempting to promote women's sports, the first successful women's professional basketball league was launched in 1997.

Spurned on in part by the successful performance of the women's basketball team at the 1996 summer games, the WNBA was explicitly positioned as the fulfillment of Title IX and something that everybody (women and men) should become a supporter of.

The Women's National Basketball Association succeeded because it had media visibility, could generate money to do additional promotion of the teams, and WNBA teams received separate names from their male counterparts. This reinforced the idea that these women are professional athletes.

I have been a devoted fan ever since that historic first season. I especially loved that my Comets were the first league champions (a title which they held until recently). Because so many other people had placed bets on New York (which at least in the 1970's was an epicenter for women's rights) having Houston lead the way in professional women's sports was a nice surprise.

There has been some reshuffling of the teams (Utah, Cleveland, and Miami's teams have transferred cities or folded all together). However this league is surpassing the expectations of people who assumed that the WNBA would not last. We have shown the doubters that women's professional basketball is here to stay in America.

Although there are salary (the players in this league are paid low for professional athlete standards) and financial issues (the WNBA has yet to make a profit as defined in business terms) the WNBA scores lots of points in my book.

It can definetely help answer the questions of how and why things in our lives are the way they are and how you can change them through your own thoughts and actions.

If you're not into organized religion but want to follow a spiritual path I would highly recommend this book. It explains the spiritual laws which govern our world based on the readings by Edgar Cayce. However, you don't need to be a believer of Edgar Cayce to accept its precepts. The advice in this book actually makes sense and helps put life and our purpose on this planet in perspective. This book is especially helpful since it delves into specifics and then illustrates based on the principles presented, how to take a different, often more effective approach.

Every police officer, deputy sheriff, firefighter, EMT, and others should have a copy of this book. I am a 20 year retired law enforcment veteran. My wife purchased this book for me. It was one of the most thoughtful gifts I have ever received. This day forever changed our lives. Our children and our grandchildren will deal with the aftermath of these events for years to come. Every time I pick this book up and even now as I write this review my eyes tear up. We must never forget the courage and service of those that fight and have fought to protect the many freedoms we enjoy as American citizens. This book helps us to remember.

This book starts off nicely by remembering 9-11 and that section is quite moving. In fact it is excellent. Then the book begins hero worship of the President, the Prime Minister of Great Britain and a parade of world leaders. It loses sight of 9-11 and thinks only of the "big" people. It continues into the war in Afghanistan then Iraq. I understand Afghanistan but the Invasion of Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11. That part should have encompassed another book.

When future generations look back upon this event these are the pictures they will study. Hopefully, looking at them will give our descendants a sense of what it was like to be an American at the beginning of the 21st century.

Yes, there are pictures of "important people" like Bush and Blair. While "little people" worked to repair the damage of 9/11, leaders like Bush and Blair had to decide how to respond. The response they chose was to destroy the Taliban and topple the pirate-ocracy of Saddam Hussein. Perhaps these actions aren't popular with some but what they did is now "history." History isn't composed of events and decisions that are nice, easy, sensible or popular.

Look at these pictures and consider the people who's own history ended on that day.

As a novice soccer-playing mom, I can authoritatively recommend this book. Araton captures the essence of the soccer-mom playing movement: the pure joy - both physically and emotionally - that comes with playing a team sport for the first time. This book is more than soccer. It's the story of a great group of women who made a difference in their community.

Finally, somebody has taken seriously the phenomenon of women at play, and given this trend a cultural voice. Araton went to a great deal of reportorial trouble getting the story right, interviewing and chronicling the suburban mothers who have decided that sports can both empower and entertain. The characters come to life through both crisis resolution and athletic achievement. On and off the field, this book scores a hat-trick.

Learning to play soccer at 30, 40, or 50 is nothing like learning to play tennis, ski, or snowboard at that age. This book captures the essence of the challenge, exhilaration, and camaraderie that adult women experience in taking on one of the most demanding sports. Soccer moms who have tried what these women have done will really empathize with this book. It also accurately depicts the group politics that arise when organizing a playing league of women who are new to team sports and expect fairness to be applied. "Alive and Kicking" is extremely well-written and is a highly enjoyable fast read. Circulate it amongst your teammates and significant others; they will all be delighted.

There is a recent surge of interest in the subject of Men's Health as it is well- known that on average women live longer, and have lower rates of mortality from major diseases, excepting Alzheimer's. This comprehensive guide presents in its opening sections a guide to healthy living, including a detailed covering of such topics as diet, exercise, dealing with stress, avoiding risky behavior etc. The aim is to enable the reader to understand how to improve his own life- style. The second section provides a medical guide to the 'systems of the body'.
The work is not focused on simply teaching us to try and extend life but rather how to make our lives healthier and happier.
My sense is that almost every reader will find some tip here or there which will improve in some way their health.
