The details of how to perpare the many unique recipes is easy to read, follow, and understand. Although it is primarily for wild game, many of them can be substituted with domestic meat to provide an excellent meal. Most of them are very easy and quick, the one's I've tried are excellent.

This cookbook is perfect for anyone whether you eat wild game or not. These recipes can be converted to use pork, chicken and beef. What I really like is that the recipes use spices and different ingredients that I have in my cupboard and I do not have to run to the store for every recipe. Saves time and money and I do not have a bunch of ingredients that I will never use again, because this author incorporates alot of the same spices and ingredients over and over. The recipes are easy to read and do not need hours of preparation. In the back of the book is a wonderful section of savory dishes that compliment the other great recipes in this book. A must cookbook for everyone!!!

Bookstall 99 is proud to add "The Accelerated Job Search" to our list of recommended business and professional books. We look at many books, recommend very few, and our reviewers must be in total agreement before we issue our approvals. This book we felt was exceptional in it's use of resources, in-depth research, timliness, and ease of reading. It is the only book on job search we are recommending. Dr. Wayne Ford has done an excellent job in producing a complete text for the job hunter, regardless of the level of experience. He logically lays out a sequential approach to getting organized, setting up an effective strategy, and following proven methods in achieving success. A particularly well thought out book with the reader in mind.

Interviewing is one of the most stressful things a person can do. I have been out of the workforce for 3 years. My children are grown and I decided to go back into the field of Administrative Secretary or Executive Assistant. Something I have always enjoyed and never got bored. Just being off the market for only 3 years, there were so many things that had changed about interviewing and I was extremely nervous about this. Of course all this information was coming from my family and friends. I know they all meant well, but I needed an expert. While searching on Amazon, I came across the book by Tony Beshara, "Acing the Interview." After reading this book, I have never felt the confidence in myself that I feel right now about going on a professional interview. I didn't even feel this relaxed 10 years ago. Tony Beshara's book is absolutely easy reading, down to earth and straight to the core of what you need to know about interviewing. I would recommend this book to anyone that is struggling with the thought of going on an interview, whether you have been out of work awhile or just ready for a change.

Sincerely,

Judy Turner

What a great guide to taking control of the interview in a positive way - when and how to.

How to pick up on key phrases indicating where you stand in the process and how to move yourself from candidate to employee without offending or coming across too aggressive.

Excellent book on when and how to be assertive in a hiring situation where most feel like a helpless victum or rag doll without any control of the process.

More importantly - exactly what to say to get the interviewer on your side and a call to action on your behalf.

WHAT AN EASY BOOK TO READ!
Great writing.

Acing the Interview

Review Date: 2008-03-24
The title Acing the Interview doesn't really describe the breadth of knowledge Tony Beshara communicates in his latest book. If one does not venture to the Table of Contents, the book's cover tagline stating its inclusion of "450 Sample Questions" sounds very much like a dozen other self-help books for job seekers. But make no mistake, Tony is not pandering to the insecurities of those suffering from interview phobia with a warmed over collection of typical interview questions. As in his first book, "The Job Search Solution," Tony wants you to look inside yourself, and to question the common precepts about the job search process. Tony's "questions" include those you ask yourself and those you ask the employer, in addition to the questions asked of you in the interview.

Tony leverages his experience from interviewing more than 24,000 candidates in a 30-year career to make you understand that `acing the interview' is more about the research, planning, and practice you execute before the interview than it is about regurgitating rote answers in the interview.

Acing the Interview is a very strong sophomore performance from the acknowledged King of Recruiters. Those who viewed any of Tony's appearances on the Dr. Phil Show will recognize his conversational tone and sincere passionate concern for matching employers to employees. Not many recruiters can claim more than 6,700 placements in their career. Unlike most authors in this genre, who have very little, if any, real world experience in getting a job - Tony has done it, and is still doing it, every day.

Excellent advice!!

Interesting book. I jumped on the first job offer after college but was burnt out in less than a year. I like reading and was strolling through Barnes & Nobles when I came across a number of books on how to get a job. I started thinking about changing jobs and ended up going on a few interviews. It was very frustrating. One part of me wanted to just quit and stay at that same lousy job but the rest of me knew I was too young to give up.

Then I saw Dr. Beshara on the Dr. Phil show. Something in his energy and sincerity made me know that what he was saying was true. If he could get that loser Dr. Phil threw at him a job, he could get me one. I bought the Job Search Solution and couldn't put it down.

Have you ever seen those TV shows that reveal how magic tricks are performed? That's what this book is like. There's no rabbit in the hat, the lady really isn't floating in mid air, employers hide behind a bunch of smoke and mirrors. Yet if you look closely, like Tony teaches you, it all makes sense.

It's crazy, but there really is a method to the madness - just as Tony tells you. The key is working your plan and staying motivated.

WARNING: don't skip past his chapters on personal motivation. You may think you're pumped up at first, but finding a good job takes time and you have to stay pumped.

I got a good job. I did interview for a couple of others that seemed even better, but they couldn't get their act together so I think they probably weren't really that good. After reading Dr. Beshara's book it all made sense. Buy this book - it'll be the best career choice you ever made.

I've loved all the Capstick books and own and have loaned the ones I own many times, mostly to husbands of friends. But I must admit that I can only read one or two and then I have to stop for a while. Times were different then and there were lots of animals. No talk of endangered species. Today when I read about macho men slaughtering beautiful animals for sport it can get to be sickening. But, again, he is an excellent author and the books keep you on the edge of your chair. When you see the movie based on the Lions of Tsavo and have read the book - the book is soooo much more exciting. And - no love interest.

I could not put this book down. What a sad world we live in today when there is no dark continent to explore the way that the professional hunters and wardens described in this book had to experience around the year 1900. What a sad world and what a bunch of counterfeits the Croc Hunter and Croc Dundee are. Author Capstick puts you there a hundred years ago, where prides of lions manage to devour 450 villagers before being shot, or where 30,000 elephants are shot in one country alone just to limit crop damage! These examples give you an idea of the world the hunters profiled by Capstick in this anthology of sorts walked into circa 1900 to 1940. Lions walking into huts populated with 100 sleeping people, only to leave without molesting a soul, only leaving their footprints around the myriads of sleeping African tribesman. Big cats jumping through windows to snatch infants in bassonets, toddlers grabbed off porches, the head being found a day later in the grass, Cheetahs killing humans just for the fun of it. Guns jamming and cartridges failing in the face of wounded lions. Deadly snakes, Puff adders, Black Mambas, no antidote, one example of these snakes even dropping out of trees to bite a human victim.

Make no mistake about it, Africa was all the danger you ever dreamed about and more at the turn of the last century. ANy game animal in North America is tame in comparison to the African beasts described so vividly by Capstick. Get this book and dream of an Africa unspoiled, full of game more cunning and ferocious than you, and dream about the original tribes, and the Englishmen that first made contact with them.

I will work my way through all of Capstick's books. I am hooked. This book is fanstastic.

This being the first of Bell's three books it was also my first title on the subject of elephant hunting. A testament to it's quality would be that even today, twenty years after the purchase and roughly eighty years after it was written, I often revisit these pages. The chapters on hunting rifle, shooting angles, adventures in Uganda and previously undiscovered country in western and central Africa are classic Africana. I am not alone in my fascination as Walter Bell continues to be among the most recognizable names in big game hunting today a full one hundred years after his first safari. His accomplishments with the rifle continue to be the standard by which all others are compared. Considering the number of sportsman who visit the continent, this is quite an accomplishment. Unlike Karamojo Safari and Bell of Africa, this book is strictly a collection of articles that were written for a local outdoor magazine in Scotland. In them, Bell describes the equipment, hunting techniques and shooting angles he used to become the most successful elephant hunter of the era. Even though these chapters address a vast range of topics Bell never drifts far from the pure hunting experience he strives to describe. He lived the life of an elephant hunter during that brief point in history when it was still a feasible profession to take up. The sensations associated with leading a heavily ivory laden safari out of the deepest jungles of Africa must have been truly magnificent. Fortunate we are that Bell took the time to put down his rifles and pick up his pen.

This is an excellent narration by the premiere elephant hunter of the early 20th Century. This extraordinary man presents adventures as simple matters of fact, as calmly as if he were recounting a normal day's work in some office. There is droll, and I believe "unintended" humor throughout the book. He gives a glimpse into the everyday life and perils of a short-lived profession that became a staple of early Hollywood adventure movies. Karamojo Bell was a master hunter who believed that the size of the bullet was not nearly as important as the placement of the shot. He hunted elephants with calibers that would only seem suitable for deer in today's hunting circles.

A CLASSIC AFRICAN HUNTING BOOK by W.D.M. BELL
Helpful Votes: 6 out of 6 total.
Review Date: 2006-03-22
Walter Dalrymple Maitland (W.D.M.) Bell(1880-1951) roamed Africa for a quarter of a century between 1897 and 1922. His main interest there was to collect ivory, and it was much easier back then, as safaris and safari outfitters were uncommon. The elephants and other African animals had no cause to fear men, and shots from the rifles were rare except those made by slave raiders. The best part was that there were plenty of elephants with tusk weighing 100 lbs or more on each side. Bell took full advantage of the situation.

Armed with low calibre rifles, he ventured into the elephant country on foot, and knowing the vital spots of the elephants, he drove the bullets right into their brain, heart or lungs causing instant death to the animals. The bullets were cheap, perhaps a box of 20 for a shilling. But the ivory collected from one elephant brought a luxury life, and Bell collected virtually tons of ivory during his wanderings in Africa, especially an area known as Karamojo (see Bell's 2nd book 'Karamojo Bell' published in 1949)

According to a biographer, Bell was 'arguably the greatest ivory hunter: Certainly the last'. Wanderings of an Elephant Hunter was Bell's first book, originally published by Macmillan in 1923. It contained several sketches and paintings prepared by Bell 'on the spot'. This reprint by Safari Press also reproduced all the illustrations and art works from the original edition, and to me it is much superior in quality than the ones published by Neville Spearman, London.

After learning tracks and tracking for two years now this book, by its title alone "Animal Tracking Basics," seemed a step back. After reading the chapter on aging on google books I knew it was at least worth a once over.

I plowed through my copy in a week and now I'm sorry to be done. This book is packed full of ideas and exercises to take anyones tracking further. Throughout the book it stresses the importance of ecology but also explains how this knowledge will help your tracking. It is a book you will reference again and again.

The track journal was great. I have drawn many tracks in the last year or so and thought I was doing well and getting the information I needed. But, after seeing the FOUR PAGE track journal outline I realized how much I overlooked. I loved the section on birds as well.

Tiffany Morgan has done an excellent job of creating the ultimate beginners guide to animal tracking. With the assistance of Jon Young, creator of the Wilderness Awareness School in Washington State, they weave a highly readable instruction guide laden with the most valuable information for those setting off on the dusty trail. Most of the information found in this book is based upon the author and co-author's extensive training and "dirt-time" with animal tracking. If you follow the procedures set forth in this book for one year your tracking abilities will noticeably improve. This information was previously reserved to student teacher relationships where the student would pay a considerable sum to attain this level of knowledge. Enjoy this awesome read!!!

If you want to learn how to find animal tracks, to follow those tracks to the live animal, and refine the ability to scout up to the animal and touch it, then Jon Young is the person that you want to meet.
Jon Young teaches tracking and nature awareness using both the naturalist and spiritual applications. I have found his approach and methods to animal tracking much easier to learn than having to stare at a single track for hours at a time.
Jon Young incorporates the "big picture" as he teaches tracking using the landscape to assist with finding animal runs and beds. His storytelling ability is unmatched and has an incredible way of bringing in the mystery and excitement of discovery.
This book should be a starting point for anyone on the learning path to be a master tracker.

Gives various reasons for ADD, some traditional and some not as traditional. Very helpful to the self-image of people with ADD and clarifies that society is part of the problem. Some key points include;

1) Education is conditioning and is particularly hostile to children with ADD.

2) ADD is now an industry with victimization and illness now fashionable.

3) The industrialized world provides an environment particularly challenging for people with ADD for reasons such as lack of exercise, lack of exposure to sunlight and too much television.

Far be it for me to even read a book. At 41, I started and run a public company. My 10 year old son was diagnosed with ADHD at age 4. This book not only helped me understand my son, it helped me understand myself. The result, I finally understood a logical explanation on why I thought I was different for so many years, and my son and I have never been closer. The challenges and the theories found in the book are incredible. I felt I was reading an explanation of how I think and act (or react). I wasn't looking for something to believe in, or to justify certain behaviors. However, almost every sentence drew me closer to the edge of my chair - just to see how my son and I operate. Thank you Dr. Hartmann!

So many books look at ADD as a "problem" that must be diagnosed and dealt with. Thom Hartmann looks at ADD another way, a way that makes a lot of sense! This book is a MUST read for anyone who has ADD or anyone who knows someone with ADD and wants to understand. The Hunter/Farmer explanation puts it all into perspective. I am an adult with ADD, and the parent of a child with ADD. I often use Hartmann's theory when explaining ADD to other people. It is positive and empowering.

I am a long time hunter but am heading on my first black bear hunt in June. This book was exceptional in the way it explained tactics for taking a black bear. It was great learning about bear hunting from experienced and successful hunters/authors. I learned a lot about habitat, diet, and and bear activity. Although there were a few paragraphs about anatomy, shot placement and post-kill activities, I would have liked to have seen photos or diagrams showing vital organs from various angles. Also, preparing meat, head, and hide appears to be quite different for a bear in comparison to a deer. Again, I would have liked to see pictures/diagrams of post-kill activities. All in all, the book if chock full of good advice and I, too, will read it again before our upcoming hunt.

In order to have any successful hunting adventure, it is necessaary to gain all the knowledge possible about where and what you are hunting. I found Black Bear Hunting by Lewis & Vantassell to be well written, and very informative. I will even read it again before heading to Prince of Walse Island, Alaska in June of 2008 for my first black bear hunt. I have hunted dangerous and non dangerous game animals in North America, New Zealand, and Africa, and I highly recommend this book for the novice and for the experienced hunter. Good Luck to all of you on your next adventure. John D. Beals, D.D.S., Redmond, Oregon

Having successfully applied deer and elk hunting tactics gleaned from Gary's previous titles Hunting Oregon and Deer Hunting, this current title from Gary Lewis has me eager to be in the field for the upcoming 2008 seasons.

From the perspective of someone who is relatively new to bear hunting, I found "Black Bear Hunting" by Gary Lewis to be a very good read. It is packed with great tips and insights that have me more prepared than ever to succeed during my 2008 Spring and Fall bear hunts.

This book is an excellent addition to my hunting library.

My husband, Bob, is 68 and preparing for his first big game hunt this spring; Alaskan Black Bear. He has read numerous books, consulted with experts, watched videos all in preparation for the hunt. Bob just read Gary Lewis' book, Black Bear Hunting and had the pleasure of meeting him. He found answers to his most basic and advanced questions in this fine work and Gary really "walks the walk". We highly recommend it to beginners and experts alike.

A Collection of Bowhunting Adventures

A great gift for the bow hunter in your life...
Reviewed by Debra Gaynor [...]
Breathtaking Bowhunts is a book for those that dream of stalking their prey. Mike Lamade is a talented author. In his book Breathtaking Bowhunts, he shares his many experiences. From bear to turkey, Lamade has sought his quarry. He stresses safety and responsibility. The rules include "Don't shoot!--unless you've practiced properly, unless the deer is in range, at running game, or if rain or snow is in the way." The photographs add much to this book. Breathtaking Bowhunts will make a nice gift for the hunter in your life.

While I have never gone bowhunting and only went gun hunting once, I am no stranger to the sport. My father was an avid hunter and was gone from before dawn until after dusk every weekend during the Iowa bowhunting deer season. He managed to kill one nearly every year and he is listed in the Iowa record book for the quality of the buck that he killed with a gun.
Therefore, while I have no personal knowledge of the events Lamade relates in this book, I certainly understand the thrills he had while bowhunting. Unlike hunting with a gun, bowhunting requires patience, guile and a cool hand. Even the most talented bowhunters must get within twenty yards to make sure of the kill. Furthermore, they only get one shot so they have to make it count.
Lamade describes his adventures on the North American and African continents. He successfully hunted everything from turkeys to moose to stingrays, including some animals capable of hunting him. His exploits are true and he writes with such flair that it is not difficult to imagine your presence at his side. Lamade is also a hunter in the purest sense of the word. He has very strict rules regarding the shots that he will take, passing on the opportunity to shoot if he is convinced that the probability of the kill is too low.

Scranton Times-Tribune, June 17, 2007

At age 6, Mike Lamade made his first connection to what would become a lifelong passion.

An aunt, returning from a trip to Yellowstone Park in 1941, gave her young nephew his first bow, an item he said he treasured as one of his most-prized possessions.

Some 40 years later, Lamade experienced his first kill with a bow, taking down a 6x6 bull (six points on each side) on his first try. He was hooked on the sport and never looked back.

Lamade decided to share his experiences, submitting an article, "Turkey tactics for bugling bulls," to Bowhunter Magazine. The article was published and Lamade began what has become a more than 20-year career writing about bowhunting.

Lamade has since compiled a book of his published articles beginning with that first one which has been published by Tribute Books in Eynon. "Breathtaking Bowhunts" provides an exciting insight into bowhunting and should be a must-read for any outdoors enthusiast.

Lamade will be at Barnes & Noble in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday, from 2-4 p.m. for a book signing.

"Bowhunting keeps me young," said Lamade, 72, who grew up Kingston and now resides in Cold Spring, "on the road to Upper Woods Pond, a top trout lake for many NEPA fishermen."

Lamade will be celebrating his first wedding anniversary Oct. 7 with his wife, Kathleen.

"The only problem is," he said, "I have a bowhunt for mule deer booked in Alberta this coming Oct. 6. Shes a very understanding woman."

Along with the articles, Lamade provides an array of fascinating photographs, from his youth to his impressive trophy room, which showcases a number of his triumphs.

Each article is followed with information, including the date and publication in which it ran, as well as some background on how the article came about.

For example, his article, "Scout like a hawk: One hour in the air can save days on the ground," provides a helpful tips on the advantage of using a guide plane to scout prospective hunting sights. Lamade follows the reprint of the article with background on his own skill as a pilot, and details the kinds of planes he has flown.

The book, which retails for $[...] and can be reviewed and ordered on line at [...], is worth every penny.

Bowhunters will enjoy the stories while non-bowhunters can learn alot.

Mike Lamade has hunted the continents from Norht America to Africa. One thing I was impressed by is he tells beginners to long time hunters to be responsible hunters. He says more than once "Do Not Shoot." Unless the animal is presenting the proper shot angle for placement in the vital chest area behind the shoulder---do not shoot.

Sometimes people can be so caught up in the hunt that they shoot not taking the time to wait for the proper shot. Then the animal will wonder off and if not found can die a slow death.. Mike has hunted just about every type of game that is allowed. He even went along with a friend who was hunting gators with a bow. While Mike did not hunt he was still taken on a wild ride.

This book teaches you not only about the responsibilty of bowhunting but the history as well. Angus Brown is a professional bow hunter and outfitter in Africa. He was instrumental in getting bow hunting legalized in this country.

I come from a family of hunters. They only hunt for the meat. My husband Larry hunts with either a bow or rifle. When I showed him Mikes trophy room his eyes opened wide and he said, "I want to read this book when you are finished."

This is a great book for all outdoor enthusiast.

My husband read this book and even though he's not a hunter, he thought it was excellent! Mike's writing style paints a very visual picture of the action/location of each of his hunts. A very readable book.

Have you ever seen a dog with the face of a porcupine? What if I told you this bristle-faced mutt could become the best fox dog in the country? No this isn't Ripley's Believe it or Not, just an ordinary dog in an ordinary place.

A boy who has lost both of his parents runs away after his uncle, who he's forced to live with, gets drunk and beats him. After he escapes questions run through his mind, "Where will I go? What will I eat?" But after finding a bit of company on the lonely dirt road, he gets attached to the ugly hound, and his life begins to change.

I love this book because the vivid description paints a picture in your mind. For example, after the panther fight, the author states, "I looked him over and found he was ripped bad down both sides and one ear was chewed almost clear off." Doesn't that make you think of a dying dog lying helpless on the ground (I know that isn't the best mental picture but it helps you plunge your self into the scene!)?

I also love the deep southern accent used through words such as, `ain't', and `electioneerin.' The author, Zachary Ball, tells the story from the boy's viewpoint rather than a bystander's, which gives the book an amazing twist.
I recommend this book for grades six and up because of vivid description however both adults and teenagers may find this book intriguing.

Judging from the reviews, it looks like I wasn't the only one who was affected by this book...
I was 12-13 yrs old when I read this book. Bristle Face, and it's sequel "Sputters", still bring back fond memories. Just as "Where The Red Fern Grows" is a wonderful story of a boy and his dogs with a tear-jerker ending, so is Bristle Face. It is also the equal of Red Fern, but just suffers from not having as good press. I waiting with baited breath for the time when my 6-yr-old is a little older so we can enjoy the story together at bed time!

This is a great book. It makes a great read aloud for the family. Jase Landers is a young boy who is running away from an abusive uncle. He is headed to Memphis, Tennessee when he stumbles upon a shaggy, glassy eyed, dog. Even though Bristle Face is not much to look at he will show much more character than most dogs. He is full of love and loyalty for Jase. In Bristle Face Jase finds a friend when he needed one the most. Jase will not be a boy forever because this dog will change his life.

I read this book when I was in Jr. High school, great book.

This book made an impression on me that I will never forget. My girl friend hit me in the head with it, just kidding. This is a great book for anyone who feels all alone growing up. I will never forget Bristle Face and Jase and the love they had for each other. I was 13 when I first read it. I recommend this book for troubled teens.

I was browsing some book titles today and saw it listed and a rush of old memories came flooding back. I can remember the book as if I had read it yesterday. This book is a wonderful tale of love shared between a lonely man, a lonely boy, and a wonderul dog. It is masterfully written, the character developement is top notch.
