The price beats what most college bookstores charge. I always reccommend purchasing online it could cut the cost of the book in half. However if your going to purchase your college book online you should visit the college bookstore and find out what the instructor requires for the class a few weeks ahead of time so you dont get stuck paying for expedited shipping.

Frederick R. Brandt & John Wilmerding's "American Marine Painting" is a 152 page trade paperback. Published in 1976 by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, VA, this work is a catalog of an exhibit entitled 'American Marine Paintings' which occurred from September 27, 1976 through December 12, 1976 at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Mariners Museum. Brandt was at that time the Assistant Project Director at the Museum, and Wilmerding (author of a 1968 work with the same title) was a consultant to the exhibition. The work includes over 70 illustrations, including 5 plates in color, which are fine examples of marine paintings, nautical themes, sea and shoring in American art. Many artists, such as Birch, Corne, Salmon, Cole, Whistler, Homer, Eakins, and Bellows, are represented.

As a Social Studies teacher at a Middle School I found this book valuable as a resource to share the events and stories of the American Revolution with my students. The book is readable and provides the inside story on key events that shaped the American Revolution and our country. I recommend this book to anyone interested in American Revolution history and especially to teachers searching for insights to share with their students.

Landon Covington Bell's Cumberland Parish, Lunenburg County, Virginia 1746-1816 is an excellent research tool and historical account of the area. Included are family descendants of the Rev. James Craig and the Rev. John Cameron. Many other families are included in this work: Gee, Hardy, Bacon, Claiborne, Stokes and many more. The second part of this book includes the Vestry Book 1746-1816. This is a valuable source of marriages, tithes and property information.

War within a War

Review Date: 2006-12-14
During the "French and Indian War" both Britain and France tried to "hire" Cherokee mercenaries. The interaction between the British, the Provincials, and the Cherokees evolved into a full-blown, separate conflict which twice required action by the British military in the southeast, especially in the colonies of South Carolina and far western Virginia. This is a well indexed and chronologically ordered collection of various documents from that conflict sent by, and to, the Commander of His Majesty's forces; Jeffrey Amherst.

A Concise Look at Ancient Wine Jars
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2001-03-21
The late Miss Grace was the foremost authority on ancient wine jars, amphorae, and worked for many years at the Agora in Athens. This book is the result of years of experience and therefore gives the reader all the benefit of her wide knowledge. Nowhere else can one find such a succinct look at these very interesting jars. The pamphlet is particularly valuable for the non-expert who just wants to know which type of jar is which, how they were used and what they contained. Very well done!

I received this book as a Christmas present and read it the following week. Since then, I have either recommended it to friends or purchased copies as gifts to friends.

If you are interested in Appalachian history, American history during the depression years, or interested in the current debate in our country about eminent domain, there is something in it for you. These letters and the research that they inspired give a unique perspective of a particular time and place in American history. It helped me to understand better the complex fabric of our whole country.
