A great roadtrip planner!

I was searching for the perfect gift for a friend who was about to embark on a two-week roadtrip -- and this was definately the perfect gift. This book covers all the states east of the Mississippi and maps out the best drives in each state, complete with the main attractions of the cities and towns along the way plus hotel and restaurant options at the various stops. It even highlights the driving laws of each state. Definately a great tool for someone who wants to be spontaneous while still picking the best drives along the way.

I purchased this book to plan a trip to Tennessee. I always purchase Fodor Guides when planning vacations as they always give the best lodging, dining, and sight seeing information. It's definitely worth purchasing if you want a local's view of the area you are visiting.

Great gift idea for Christian friends who speak Spanish

I do volunteer work in Guatemala and have been looking for a book that I can give my Christian friends as a "thank you" for their kindness! This book is perfect! The pictures are beautiful and each is paired with a scripture that is meaningful. I am returning to Guatemala in late July and I can't wait to see their reaction to this wonderful book. You should include this book in the spirituality section so that no one misses it!

This is an excellent book. If you can find it, and if you don't mind looking a little bit silly as you read a book while walking through the streets, you should absolutely take this with you. I lived in Israel for a few months and used this book on several occasions. Kaminker directs your attention to details that you would otherwise have missed. Highly recommended.

The ultimate help guide
Helpful Votes: 20 out of 21 total.

This is a VERY helpful travel book! In 357 pages it gives you access to the Online Travel Directory and has a large pull-out color map, yet it is small enough to fit in almost any handbag. Sites of interest covered in the book include Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios, Water Parks, Golf, Tennis, Islands of Adventure, Daytona Beach, Kennedy Space Center and More! It gives pretty accurate ratings of rides, restaurants, hotels and such. This is especially helpful if you are taking the kids, you can use this to plan out the vacation, know what rides and food your kids will enjoy and even gives sample itineraries. The information is reliable and the details are wonderful! If you, or someone you know, are planning a trip to the Orlando area, this is a MUST!

Current, Thorough, and Informative

Of several Orlando/Disney World books I have read, this is probably the best for several reasons.

Probably the best feature of this book is that each attraction has a letter grade rating and a recommended age. This was very helpful in planning our trip and eliminating boring attractions and those intended for a different age group.

This book had current information on the new Universal Studios Escape Park, but did not have much info on Asia in the Animal Kingdom (other books did.)

Overall, this was the most useful book in planing our Orlando vacation.

Excellent guide to seeing the USA from behind the wheel
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2006-02-10
Excellent guide to seeing the USA with a car or a fat RV. You will enjoy some great driving tours and routes through the good ol' US of A. This review is for the 3rd edition 1997 publication.

Frommers has recently come out with more "Best-Loved Driving Tours" series ... guides that are not very inexpensive, but are very well researched and quite comprehensive. One will have plenty of driving tours and routes to chose from, whether you like arts and museums, scenic roads and breathtaking views, urban towns and shopping, or just want to experience a regione's culture and life.

Unlike the other Frommer guides that are fatter and heavier, this little book gives you not too many specifics on lodging or eating. It is geared strictly for the person behind the wheel and her or his passengers.

I have had a great experience using this guide (although a bit old) and will recommend it to anyone who can afford it. Also, you might want to check to see if your library carries it and check it out for the duration of your visit abroad.

When I backpacked 4 months through Europe I had a copy of the Lonely Planet for Europe (a thick and heavy book) because it covered more cities and esoteric towns, a ripped chapters of all the international youth hostals Europe of the countries I visited, and as primary guide for nominal cities and capitals I used Frommers (ripped the book and kept only chapters of countries planning to visit - so I can keep the weight down).

Excellent guide to seeing Austria with a sports car or an RV. You will enjoy some great driving tours and routes through this historical region of Central Europe.

The Only way to see the UK
Helpful Votes: 28 out of 44 total.
Review Date: 1999-10-04
As a limey living in the US, I get fed up of yanks, when finding out I'm British asking me which part of London I'm from. Britain isn't just the crown jewels and piccadilly circus, and the only way to see the real Britain is to get in a car and drive. Britain is such an interesting diverse country, yet small enough to drive round easily, that driving on the wrong side of the road and paying five bucks a gallon for gas are just small problems compared to the wealth of beauty you will experience. I say forget London altogether, hit the road and head out.
