I have read this book and i strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to become "familiar" with basic technology employed in contemporary "Gbit"/F-O devices utilized in fiber optic communications. The book is not meant to be used a text book but rather as a detailed survey of techniques and methods developed over the past ten-fifteen years.www.daghighian-henry.com

Excellent book. It really helped me in my first PC build. Thorough description of all aspects of Building a PC. Excellent description of component selection. Great step by step guide to the PC build. A very good overview of post build procedures including: creating floppy boot discs, setting up raid and partitions, installing and setting up drivers, optimizing performance, maintenance, benchmarking, etc. However, the book would have been more useful if it had included a more thorough and extensive overview of Installing Windows.
ExtremeTech also published a companion book called, 'Build the Ultimate Custom PC' which does include a thorough overview of installing Windows, but it's not as thorough (in other aspects) as this book. It would have been nice if ExtremeTech had combined the 2 books into one more complete book. But as it is, Build the Ultimate Gaming PC is the best book that I've read on building a PC and I've read 4. It's relevant to building a PC for any purpose, not just gaming.
I also found a great DIY Guide to Building an AMD Socket 939 PC at HardwareZone.com. It's a little dated (summer 2004) but it's thorough, well written, easy to follow and free.

if you follow the plans verbatim, you are basicly screwed. Use the basic diminsions, but double check or calculate for yourself most of the cuts. The plans are not real accurate, but do propose some REAL nice stuff. I've built 3 of them tables so far, and I love them. Just be careful.

To get the most from your router, you need a versatile router table that works. In Build Your Own Router Tables, expert woodworker John McPherson shows you how to design and build three different router tables, each serving the needs of different types of woodworking. The portable job-site table, the shop table, and the contractor's table are proven router table designs field- tested extensively by the author. Step-by-step drawings and photographs show you exactly how to make your own personal router table right the first time, and what must be done to make each design work with the router you own. And rest assured, once you've built your router table (whether a large, do-everything contractor's table or a small, versatile bench-top model), McPherson is ready to help you customize it with specialty fences, jigs and fixtures to suit any routing application. Build Your Own Router Tables leaves nothing unexplained. You'll quickly learn how to build, equip and use router tables safely and effectively. And you'll get a personal, step-by-step walk-through on how to design, plan and build the right router table for you. Every page is peppered with information that could take you years to learn on your own. With Build Your Own Router Tables, you'll fast acquire the knowledge and confidence to build tables that add depth and precision to your router... and beauty to your work.

Though definately written in the 70s, this book gives instructions on how to make many types of craft equipment, including a floor loom frame (not the reed or the heddles) and accessories for weaving, Pottery equipment, a number of different easels, and other craft items. There are detailed lists of supplies, and all in all, it is an easy to read book.

Durability vs a crisis of confidence

Most water control projects in this country rely on big gravity damns, but in the early 20th century one John S. Eastwood designed dams which minimized the amount of concrete involved. While his designs were less expensive, he faced much opposition from engineers and politicians alike who believed their more fragile appearance would damage public confidence in their durability. Donald Jackson provide insights into dam building history and describes how in this case the illusion of stability strengthened by concrete won over Eastwood's innovative design plans. A 'must' for any collection strong in engineering, conservation, and energy generating issues.
