I hesitate to use the word entertaining when describing a crime of the magnitude contained within this book. Rather, I believe compelling is a better description for this narrative. It is excellently written and flows easily from one horrifying episode to the next as the author relates how a drinking water supply can become contaminated because our elected and appointed officials in government protect industry and their own self interest rather than the people that need their help. Conrad presents a wealth of documentation to support his case and in the end one feels that a great injustice has occurred. That the very individuals who were responsible for this tragedy where able to walk away without any significant repurcussions is appalling and yet probably commonplace. One does feel satisfied, however, that at least within the pages of this book they have been held accountable. I enjoyed this book on many levels. It is in one sense the story of an individual effecting his community through perseverance. In another, a warning of how we must not accept on face value the assurances of our elected leaders. Finally for those interested in the problems we face with our toxic waste dumps it is certainly a must read.

This book chronicles in engaging fashion the terrible and true story of how a city's water supply was contaminated when multiple measures to protect the citizens failed. It presents an interesting story on a personal level of one man who recognized a problem and did a tremendous amount of work on his own to bring it to the attention of elected officials. In this sense, it is a encouraging story because it shows one person can make a difference. It also emphasizes that the individual must attempt to make a difference because our representatives can not always be relied on to protect our interests. I think it would also be a very interesting read for anyone interested in environmental issues or who has a similar problem in their own community. This incident was not as well publicized nationally as some more infamous catastrophies. But to the residents in this area, the problem is well known. It is sometimes hard to comprehend how a disaster like this could occur. This book explains how it happened to this unfortunate community and is a must read to raise people's awareness. It could happen anywhere....

I suggest you correct the title of this book you got it as "Digital Designing in the Programmable Logic Device". Shame on you. I am just starting to read this book so you should here from me.

This is possibly the best book I have purchased on this subject.
It contains a thorough coverage of logic design with Finite State Machines. Examples include various
Programmable Logic Devices from PAL16L8 to 10R8 and even ROMS.

Introduction to micro code and CISC. Address Bus Decoding is covered towards the end as well.

All in all a wonderful book - and found just in time given my interest in digital design. I am probably
going to read it a second time, before delving into my own projects.

In short you should come away from this confident enough to purchase a CPLD/FPGA board and
start experimenting.

Torres, begins by providing you with an introduction to Mixing and how its done; as well as, an explanation about the mechanical process and the musical or performance side, that is essential to modern DJing. Then, the author covers some specifics that may assist you, assuming of course that you want to get paid for what you do and that you want to get work in the first place. Next, he concentrates on the types and some makes of equipment you'll encounter. The author then covers sound basics in greater depth and what you need to know bout the technical aspects of the controls you'll operate. He continues by taking a quick look at the mix, the different types of mix and the way to achieve them. Then, the author takes a quick look at some things that might help the mobile DJ. Next, he makes you aware of the potential hazards of being a DJ: health and safety, etc. The author then discusses career progression. In this most excellent book, you'll find advice in choosing equipment; as well as, setting it all up and getting the best sound out of it--whatever the venue. More importantly, don't forget that there's more to being a successful DJ than just playing records.

What a great book for a beginner! I just recently moved into a solar house and this book has given me a great basic education about solar electricity. Easy and fun to read!

As a woman who is not too interested in charts and endless technical discussions I found Mr. Pieper's book refreshingly easy to read and to understand. His sense of humor with which he addresses most topics makes this book stand out from most books in this genre. It is nice to see that learning can be fun. I strongly recommend this book to any one who wants to learn the basics of solar energy be it to educate oneself or to purchase a solar system for her/his home. In that respect it is also worth looking at his second book with the same title, Part II

This is really good if you are starting a school news show from scratch. It has great project ideas!

This is a good book if you are looking to start a school TV program, or improve the program you've got. I am a school media specialist, and we do a lot these days - librarian, web-master, research teacher, TV producer. This book helped me improve my school TV program. It described a lot of equipment that was previously unfamiliar to me. It also told me what to look for in various equipment (audio mixer, video mixer, etc.) My next purchase is probably a video editor, and this book tells me what features to look for. My students have created several of the video projects enclosed, and students and teachers like them alot. Buy this book if you want to improve your school tv studio.

Anyone serious about understanding the Aztec mind and social order should read both "Time and Sacrifice in the Aztec Cosmos" (K. A. Read) and also, "THE JADE STEPS" by Burr Cartwright Brundage (University of Utah Press; (c)1985; ISBN# 0-87480-247-4). FYI, Dr. Brundage has authored nearly a dozen extraordinarily well written and researched books on Aztec civilization; most are (sadly) tough to find.

If you read introductoion book for DC/AC circuits before read this book,you will comprehend this book more and more easily.
When I first read this book,I regretted not reading before. As a student in electronics,I have no problems in reading and understanding any other book after finished this book.It was helpful to me for having confidence for future .It will be a conerstone to understand electronics.

You can teach yourself with this book. Dr. Hassul, who is an excellent instructor at CSULB, has a unique way of communicating difficult facts in a most interesting way. This book made everything click!

Ending Hunger in Our Lifetime describes the world hunger challenge in the globalizing world of plenty. It proposes sustainable solutions to world hunger. The problem about hunger is that it creates food insecurity, which ultimately implies diminished investment in human capital. Low human capital stock, and arguably its productivity, will threaten food production worldwide and food shortages will eventually induce the prices of all scarce resources to increase. Whereas fossil fuels are the backbone of an object-intensive economy, food security is the backbone of an idea-intensive economy (liberally paraphrasing Paul M. Romer here). As food prices rise, disposable income falls, and social welfare suffers, as there is an inverse relationship between measures of well-being such as GDP, HDI, PQLI, and poverty.

To end hunger we must produce more stuff and distribute them better. More production damages the environment, making us even more insecure. Only science (not pseudoscience) holds out a promise for rescue. Successful science requires new and better institutions. Moreover, here is where the rubber burns when it hits the road: this institutional change will need stronger investment in hunger-solving projects than before. All this can happen only if humans really want it done.

I liked this book because it shows there are still some economists who can write clearly about issues in the real world without geting bogged down in jargon or hung up on abstract theories. This is not a casual read, but the analysis and writing are very clear and accessable to any intelligent person who might be interested in world hunger, food security or food trade issues. It was also nice to see a university press willing to include photos taken by Sebastiao Salgado, who I think is the world's gretest living photographer.

As a student of international health policy, I found this book contributed greatly to developing my own perspective on the plight of global hunger and the issues surrounding food security policy. It was an interesting read, easy to comprehend, and very well written. I recommend it not only to students, but anyone with a desire to become more aware of the important issues regarding the world's hunger. 5 stars!

I worry that the products in my home may be detrimental to my health. I worry that the waste our consumer society generates is degrading the environment. So I was glad to see a guide like Essentual Environments which points out simple changes we can make to have healthier homes. For instance, stop using scented candles and drinking sodas. Replace your laundry detergent with a biodegradable, non-toxic, laundry detergent. Get a filter for your shower since chemicals in the water get absorbed through your skin.
There are more involved recommendations as well for those willing to invest in improving the health of their living spaces. We owe it to ourselves and to the earth to cut down on clutter, chemicals and waste.

This book is absolutely amazing, and the title could not be more appropriate. This book is filled with practical and useful advice on how to bring your life into balance, and avoid those things that we all think we need, but really make us worse off. You might think that using these strategies your life would be more complicated or difficult, in exchange for living healthier, but instead, you are likely to enjoy your life more while living longer! This book is simply amazing.
