Several of us on KRNET who are building KR-2
aircraft refer to this book as a guide during the
design and building phases of construction.
I consider it a excellent treatment of the topic,
and it is a valuable reference. I plan to use
it during the flight testing phases of my project.

I found this book an excellent introduction into flight testing a homebuilt aircraft. Not only does it go into the "how" of flight testing but "why".
It is aimed at the homebuilder who wants to test his/her own aircraft and it is a good guide on how to prepare a proper test program.
I thought it was worth the money.

Excellent text on introduction to flight training. Author walks you through his experience as a student pilot and shares honest and critical insights into the rather challenging yet fun endeavor of learning to fly and being safe. Authors sense of humor makes the book easy and fun to read compared to other similar text.

I have several books in this series called "The Complete Fly Fisherman." Most of the books, including this one have been very useful to me. I have been fly fishing for about 2+ years. I bought this book when I started and found it extremely useful to use. It helped me select equipment and prepare me for a Trout Unlimited Fly Fishing Class. I would highly recommend this book (and the series) to beginning fly fishers!

As a newcomer to fly fishing I had many questions about what gear I needed. This book provides the answers quickly. This book is well written by a seasoned veteran and it's a quick read. The quick guides to selecting the right gear allowed me to select a rod and reel that will provide versatility for several fish. This isn't the last book I'll read on fly fishing but it got me started in no time at all. Thanks John!

I've always been a Richard Collins fan -- even when I was 11 and bought "Flying" magazine off the drug store rack and pored over every article -- understanding maybe 15%.
The percentage is higher now, but I still need to read and re-read to fully comprehend all the material presented.
The chapter on Lows is worth the price of this book. Every IFR and VFR pilot should buy and read this book. If you find you don't understand half of what Dick is talking about, it's time to go back to the basic Aviation Weather texts and get up to speed. Nothing is more critical to GA flying safety than the PIC's complete understanding of the Weather picture before launch and during flight.

This is one of the best books that I've come across. Richard L. Collins does a great job of covering the basics of weather and what is really going on in order to build on real useful knowledge. Once he completes that, Richard takes you on 40+ actual flights where he talks about the briefing that he got, what the weather is really like and what the NOOA maps showed after the flight (since they always look at the past).
You learn more than just about weather. You learn about how to work with FSS, what to ask, and why forecasts are sometimes so different than actual when they shouldn't be. After reading this, I felt a lot more confident about my IFR weather planning and flying and look at the weather with a whole new mind set.

I wanted to read this book because of the family connection I have with it. My gg-grandfather was a member of the West Virginia 8th Mounted Infantry. As I read the book I realized I couldn't put it down. As Averell rushed to escape to the North, his decision to burn the Island Ford Bridge, my heart began to sink. For I now know what my gg-grandfather must have felt like to know that he was part of the rear guard that was left behind on the wrong side of the river. If you want interesting reading of a little known event in the history of the Civil War, then this book is for you.
A well told tale of a little known Civil War episode.

I ordered this book hoping to learn more about my great-grandfather's regiment, which served under Averell in the Army of West Virginia. The excellent Order of Battle appendix told me right away that the 8th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry hadn't joined Averell's command by the time of this December 1863 raid, but that was my only disappointment. This is an easy reading, well documented story of a little known episode that shocked the Confederacy. More important, it is a gripping tale of men succeeding against the elements, and against overwhelming odds. Averell and his small brigade "marched, climbed, slid and swum" 355 miles through enemy held territory in the dead of winter, going without food and sleep, climbing mountains and crossing rivers, avoiding Confederates sent to intercept them, and striking the depot at Salem (today a suburb of Roanoke, Virginia) to threaten the lines of communication between Richmond and Knoxville. The book documents the extraordinary leadership and tenacity of Brigadier General William Averell, but it also highlights the streak of hesitancy that eventually caused Phil Sheridan to sack him during the Shenandoah Valley campaign of 1864 (in which my great-grandfather's regiment did take part). Abundant photographs and simple, readable maps complement the text and help bring the characters and the story to life. A truly good book, highly recommended for descendents of the Gray as well as the Blue, and for anyone else interested in the Civil War.

I started reading it right away and realized it was over my head. But then as I continued through it, I knew there was too much information for just a quick read. I gave it to my husband, and he's going through it now. Since he works offshore, he's able to read and reread and even read again those parts that are 'foreign' to us. But once you've eliminated the parts that won't pertain to your cattle, it's a great book. There's almost enough to make it 2 separate books so it would be easier on a novice. It's a book every "wanna be" cattleperson should read.
Fantastic--as usual!

I have a number of Heather Smith Thomas' horse books as well as Storey's Gude to Raising Cattle and I think this is one of Heather's best so far. As is typical of her writing (and Storey books in general), everything is presented in an orderly, interesting, and easily absorbed manner--the great illustrations are icing on the cake! I have only one bovine, a pet steer at that, yet the cattle care information in this volume was as applicable to my one steer as it would be to a herd of farmed beef cattle. This is by far the most useful small-scale cattlekeeping guide I've yet seen. Highly recommended!

We made a dozen Friendship Brownies for my daughters (3 1/2) teachers for Christmas and they loved them! My daughter loved layering the white and brown chocolate chips the best. We cut out fabric circles for the tops, and I made our own recipe tags on the computer instead of using the ones included. They turned out very cute!
Not only was it something inexpensive to give but my daughter could help out as well. My only advice would be to mash things down a bit as you go...we got to the end and the last big ingredient overflowed the jar otherwise.

The development of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) over the past few years has been one of the triumphs brought about by more powerful computer hardware, software and big hard drives. Conceptually GIS came about in the 1960 with the ideal of co-registered overlays of what's underground. One layer (or more likely three) covers water (clean, waste, storm), one set covers wiring (power, telephone, cable TV), other layers cover steam, subways, gas distribution, or whatever.
The 1990's saw the more powerful systems being combined with more advanced GIS software that was significantly easier to use. Finally GIS has reached the point where its use in smaller towns, smaller systems is not only practical but almost mandatory.
This book, as the title says, specializes in GIS for Water. It's written about water, for water oriented workers. It uses terminology that is familiar and concentrates on software that is specialized for water use.
Dr. Shamsi is director of the GIS and Information Management Technology for Chester Engineers (Pittsburgh). Chester is a leading-edge engineering and scientific research firm that provides water, wastewater and environmental solutions to public and industrial clients worldwide.
