LIparulo continues to release suspense filled novel that grab your attention and wont let go. When I found out he had a new novel I had to read it. This book deals with four friends take a remote wilderness expedition. They come across a group who have taken a remote town hostage and plan on destroying the town and its people with a new weapon. The friends must lead an attack to release the towns inhabitants from this group. Liparulo does a great job bringing the characters to life. A must read for all suspense fans.

Because it turns the pages, holds our interest, and promises more than the average TV show. The characters, some at least, are well drawn and give us reason to care. Our disbelief must be suspended, because the reason for all the killing turns out to be ridiculous. But the author is talented enough to keep us up at night.

INTRIGUING but also discouraging. It is almost scary because it could really happen. It surely did keep my attention throughout. What would I do if this situation ever occurred in my town or neighborhood? How would we ever counteract something devastating like this? The games that exist today seem to me to be so realistic and "hard core" that people lose all concept of what is moral and/or amoral. It truly scared me!!!!!

A fun, entertaining and bold read

"Deadfall' is a great book to invest in for anyone who is looking for an action-filled plot that contains authentic believable characters who must go through nearly impossible situations to either overcome, surive or die.

Each character in this book is easily to believe in, connect with or to genuinely feel that "such a person must surely exist", whether they are protagonist, villain or innocent bystander.

The plot moves along at a gripping pace and a solid stage is set well before the ride takes off. Perhaps what R.L. does best here is that he is willing to create such real characters but is unafraid to submit them to very real realities and consequences, even if such realities mean their removal from the rest of the story.

When all is said and done, your heart has been broken, you have wanted to jump out of your seat and cheer. You have hated, sympathized, held your breath, and shed a tear.
Having said all this, as wonderful of an emtional and mental journey this wonderful story is, I'm afraid it left something lacking in depth. Where there were opportunities to explore deeper questions and issues, the action stole such moments away.

R.L. is a great author and this is another great work, but perhaps just something more is needed before we go from a good read to memorable literature...(here some would say that is not the goal, but why should such a gifted author not aspire to something timeless and life changing?)

Robert Liparulo is an animal! He just happens to display quite a talent when it comes to writing great thrillers. In the best-selling anthology, "Thriller," edited by James Patterson, Liparulo merely showed a glimpse of his genius with "Kill Zone." In "Deadfall," he lets it all hang out. He goes wild and crazy, and that's when he's at his best, thrilling the masses, and leaving us speechless. I was craving more after "Comes a Horseman," and going GA-GA after "Germ" bit me. Now he gives us "Deadfall," and Publisher's Weekly think they have it all figured out. Publisher's weekly sucks on this one! This was great!!

Taking a camping trip in Canadian woods is just the ticket for a group of four friends. They are looking to live with the wildlife for the time being, while doing some hunting and other guy things. But it looks like those plans are going out the window, or should I say, the tent! There are problems in Fiddler Falls, a town that suspiciously sounds like a bad musical trying to go Broadway, or if you're Canadian, to Toronto? And with a whole new set of plans, and weapons like they've never seen, they aren't prepared for what's in store. They just have the weapons that they brought with them. Is that enough?

Liparulo drives this with a savage force! And yet he gives us lessons for life at the same time. He doesn't hesitate to put the pedal to the metal, and he doesn't even think to apologize for it. I like that! Author Thomas Perry said that this deserves the name THRILLER. I agree wholeheartedly with Mr. Perry. Robert Liparulo has found his audience, and he's giving them what they want each and every time. That's a great read, and that's what keeps me coming back. Keep bringing your A game with you, Mr. Liparulo! Not many authors are doing it better.

This book is a great read for those who cannot hunt on guide hunts on game farms, etc. (that's most of us!) The book gives real tips on how to hunt whitetails that you can put to use right away. I liked the book so much I mbought the 3 DVD set that will soemwhat redundant to the text, contained a bunch more great info. These guys know what they are doing and they don't have a ranch or staff of guides, scouts, etc doing the work for them. The DVD series is not however a bunch of hunts captured on video. It is instructional stuff... and good!

Very Disappointing

As the title indicates, I found this disappointing. I knew there wasn't going to be much in this book when the entire first chapter used charts and graphs to demonstrate that pressured bucks are harder to find!!!

Also, he spent a good number of pages telling us how to approach landowners for permission to hunt! That is NOT what you buy a book like this for.

He also presents a regimen for success that is so drastic I don't think many will follow thru. For example -- he prepares 80 different trees for stands.

The book wasn't a total loss, as he does give a prioritized list of the 4 things to look for in the woods that are best places to find deer.

I recently read the book and I did learn some new things. However, the book really pushes a scentlok suit and I would adivse saving your money. These suits are costly and not necessary. Just go out and buy scent free detergent (basspro,cableas,wal-mart etc.) and the scent proof spray and you are good. We are talking a price difference of hundreds.

I wish the author had really gone into game cameras. If you really want to know what size of deer you are hunting and when and where they are at a camera is the best tool out there. Also, he didn't mention baiting much, but if it is legal in your state do this along with cameras and you stand a great chance of taking a good sized deer.

In conclusion, this is a good book and if you are new to hunting I would strongly recommend it.

John Eberhart manages to take nice bucks year after year from one of the heaviest hunted and poorest manage states without having to pay anyone to hunt their land. this book is worth every minute of your time ,but if you only want to read one of John's books then make it "Precision Bowhunting" much the same info just laid out a bit nicer.

Just as the name implies if you are bowhunting whitetails in pressured areas this book is one of the best. Theres something here for everyone but if you are a begining bowhunter this book is a must own. The author also has 3 DVDs on hunting pressured whitetails, they are the best instructional DVD's I have seen. I wish I would have had this book availabale when I started bowhunting.

Altough this book was very well written and full of imformation, I felt it was a book definately for a novice or begining bowhunter. Having been a serious bowhunter for several years, there was really nothing new to me.
Again, for a beginner looking to learn about camouflage, scent control, lure use, and equipment selection, this would be an excelent book.

If you are involved with archery, this book belongs in your library. Howard Hill posessed skills that are nothing short of incredible when it came to hunting and target archery. This book will inspire you to pick up your bow and go out and shoot. It might even inspire someone to but down his compound and pick up a real bow. This book is a compilation of accounts from Howards career that would be written off as fantasy if so many people hadn't witnessed what Howard was able to accomplish with a longbow. Howard attempts to describe making bows and other archery tackle. I wouldn't buy the book for these reasons. There are other sources such as the bowyer's bible series that do a much better job.

The first 2 chapters of this book locked this reader to the pages like an arrow nocked to the string. The thoughts and feelings expressed by Howard Hill as he came to full draw on each of his adventures put me in the saddle or atop the mountain looking through his eyes. Any archer's heart will race at the reaccounting of each hunt, but only archers of traditional caliber will be able to appreciate the flight of the arrow as it's loosed and hits its intended mark. The bond between fellow hunters is well expressed and gives proper account to the knowledge and wisdom passed down at the campfire by older more experienced hunters. But for the fact that Howard Hill has accomplished things with his bow that I wouldn't begin to consider, I found it difficult to associate with some of his underwater adventures.

Hunting the Hard Way is the best book I have ever read. This book is about the adventures of Howard Hill and others that accompanied him on his hunting trips. Howard Hill used a laminated bamboo longbow that he made in his archery shop. He was an excellent shot with the bow also. He took some amazing shots at animals in this book. The most amazing shot in my opinion was at an elk at over 150 yards! He also went hunting with his bow and arrow.

GREAT GIFT FOR ANY TRADITIONAL ARCHER

I received my book on a friday and read it cover to cover in two days. I loved it. Howard Hill was not only the greatest archer in the world, but an excellent story teller. He does everything from shooting a buffalo while riding a horse, to bowfishing under water and shooting a large shark. He even has a technical chapter on bowmaking, and his style of shooting. Any archer will enjoy reading this book.

This is a serious Bowhunting book for serious bowhunters. This book took me beyond my current knowledge level (Bowhunting for ten years) and answered several of those questions that seem to have a hundred answers (a different one from everyone you ask).
There is an excellent section on the rut and answers several questions like when is the rut, how does it start, how do deer respond during different parts of the rut and rut hunting strategies.
The first section has excellent chapters on habits including diet, bedding, scraps, and rub lines.
The book also has hunting strategies of several "expert" hunters with some excellent advice on stand placement.
This book has so much more and I feel there is something for every bowhunter, novice to expert. This one will stay in my library and be passed on to several friends.

Finally a bow hunting book with some scientific validity.

A lot of hunting books are antidotal accounts of the authors hunts and never really give you any solid information. This is NOT one of those. It is a collection of articles written by various big game hunters/authors/experts. Yes, there are some hunting stories, but the vast majority is well researched information put into a form that you can use. It is actually a good read. I find myself not wanting to rush through this so I get full enjoyment out of it. Since this is a collection of articles, it is easy to read one a night before I drift off to sleep and dream and big bucky.
Several articles explain how the rut works in great detail. Some of the information is controversial-such as timing the peak breeding by using the moon-but the research will make a believer out of you. For any hunter looking for even the slightest edge in hunting big game, there will be something in this book for you.

I have read all of Greg Miller's earlier works and enjoyed them. When I saw that he put out "Greatest Whitetail Adventures" I figured I would not read another. I mean, this guy is all over the hunting shows, on the sports show circuit, magazines, etc. He could just put out a series of compilations based on his previous books and milk the cash cow that is the modern deer hunting industry.

After picking up this book I have to admit: I was absolutely wrong. This is the most honest book he has ever done. This is not the "glass the crop fields and find the hardwood funnel" tactics of 90% of the deer hunting books out there. It reminds me of the John Eberhardt bowhunting books in that it really shows you what it takes to be a consistent hunter in these environs. The work, preparation, and especially mental attitude. Greg is not preaching: he readily explains his own feelings from his earliest attempts at bowhunting.

I figured Greg Miller succumed to what is the modern deer hunting industry machine. Instead I get the sense that Greg is using his position within the industry to ensure a future of respect for the quarry being hunted.

I always hope, when I sit down to read one of these books, that there will be some piece of information in there that will make me say, "ahha! -- so that's it!". Well I've never found one before and this book doesn't have one either.

For example, one of the hardest things about deepwoods hunting is determining food sources. I think his answer was that you have to scout to see what the deer are eating. But, in the deepwoods, what they're eating is probably everywhere -- so what good does that do you? Besides, how, other than by actually catching them in the act, do you determine what they're eating? Since deepwoods deer are so scarce, catching them in the act of eating is going to be very tough.

His big secret is LOTS of scouting and he says it will probably take you 5 years of this type hunting (and all that scouting) before you finally figure things out.

I DO like the way Greg comes across in his books and I found his descriptions of his father's deercamps, his own, early-adult deercamps, and the ones he shares with his son, now, to be touching and definitely one of the better parts of the book.

Greg Miller is one of the foremost experts on the habits of Whitetail deer and the techniques used to hunt them. So much that is written now on the subject can be classified as just warmed over rewrites of previously covered subjects, but Greg Miller's approach is noteworthy because it covers the five "W's" of research - "What, Where, When, Why, and hoW!" He promises no shortcuts but does promise results if the hunter applies himself. Great read and great information. I recommend this book as well as others Greg Miller has written on the subject of hunting for Whitetail deer to anyone aspiring go after this great game animal.

This book was written in the late 1980's. Archery and deer hunting have progressed a great deal in the last 20 years.

Bows have changed, the arrows have changed, scent blocking clothing has been introduced and ground blinds have also given hunters additional choices.

On the positive side the author does know how to hunt and shoot and does a good job explaining how to do the same to the reader. An updated edition would be a very good idea.

I was impressed by the depth and breadth of the authors knowledge and presentation. It is quite readable and I will use it as a reference for years to come. Some of the advise was related to locale though. I took to heart his "stump shooting" concept as a fine idea and now that I am scouting and setting up my fall hunts I took my bow and some fields points. A hint from and eastern bow hunter... You'll have a hard time getting those arrows out of a hardwood stump! GREAT BOOK!

Anyone who reads this book whether a beginner or an advanced archer will learn something from Bear's years of experience. There are many exploits in the book which tell of his adventures. Fred Bear is one of the few men I know of who traveled the world, hunted and killed every type of animal, even a bull elephant with a recurve bow. This books sound practices and tips will help every archer improve even if you hunt or just enjoy shooting targets.

Ted Bear maintains the ancient tradition of hunting with a recureve--the closest thing to a longbow used in hunting today, while exhibiting an ethos uncommon in the hunting world today. He believes in skill, rather than the brute strength of a gun or compund bow. This is an excellent "how to" book for hunters. Bear starts at the beginning of recurves bow shooting, and takes you through to the end. He also interjects plenty of personal interludes, which prove that this is a man who acutally hunts with a recurve, and knows what he's doing.

This book takes on the daunting task of supplying some solid information about EVERYTHING in bowhunting. I have used it as a place from which to start research on a given bowhunting topic. For instance, if you've never hunted mule deer, but have an interest in learning some of the ins and outs, like where to hunt them, how they differ from whitetails, what you can expect in terrain, shot distance, etc., this book is great. If you want a treatise on how to become an expert mule deer hunter, you'll need to look elsewhere. However, since the purpose of an encyclopedia is to cover breadth above depth, this book accomplishes its goals. A great gift book to give a bowhunter.
