I met the author of this is over 15 years ago I think, while enroute to Bangkok Thailand. I am never easily fooled ... I will vouch that this man is the real deal, Now in his 80's and still quite vigorous, but the impressive thing is how devoted he is! Always attempting base ALL spiritual truth on the Bible ALONE and in it's entirety. I have found his books to be carefully written and very well researched but more than that they are so clearly written of a sincere desire that a reader might benefit greatly even to thier becoming convinced of their need for God's mercy and Christ as the only hope. Buy and this book! And lest you think the author would make a single dime on his books, I think if you contacted him at family radio he would give you a copy free if you can't afford it and I am serious! But if you buy it new, used or it is given to you, please be like the Bereans were when they were originally presented with the gospel ... don't believe anything or trust anything until you have prayerfully checked it against what the Bible says ... look up the Scripture refrences and see what rings true and what does not ... just don't trust your own ideas either! Let God be true and every man a liar is what the bible charges us with! May God richly bless you! Doug

Put your pride to the side, and listen to this book!

In the Bible, the book of Matthew chapter 24, Daniel, 1 Peter, and of course the book of Revelation sums things up very clearly. When the second coming will happen and how, and what to look out for: For instance we hear about how, "false prophets will rise up and deceive many",Matt. 24:7-11. Well we are seeing this everywhere in a lot, but not all, of the local churches. Proof? Like it or not, many pastors, though mean well, are taking scripture so terribly out of context. They don't do their homework in scripture comparison. God purposely wrote the Bible so it takes patience, humility, and love to read and more importantly understand. (I can write a book here, forgive me, but there's not enough room. So I'm trying to cut to the chase.) Falling down backwards is a serious NO-NO, yet it's everywhere. Speaking in tounges is a big time satanic tool, and it's duped nearly every congregation! The Bible is written, God gave us all we need to know in That ONE and ONLY book. No longer are we to get visions, and speak in tongues. Oh, you may, but it's not of God!! "Christian" rock, oh, Lord, don't get me started. Divorce rates even among the pastors! This never would of been allowed 30-40 years ago. Times may change, but God's law - the Bible- doesn't. There are no longer any morals in the congregations, no meat and potatoes in the pastor's Sunday message.
Rev. 13:7 -"authority was given over to him.."
Daniel 7:21 & 8:11-12 - "then the saints shall be given into his hand..he exalted himself as high as the Prince."
Don't believe me yet, or more importantly the Bible, what do you do with these three verses then?
1 Peter 4:17 -"time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God.."
Matthew 24:15 -"when you see the 'abomination of desolation' spoken of by Daniel...standing in THE HOLY PLACE.."
II Thes. 2:3-4 -"..man of sin sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God."
Who is standing in the Holy Place (Churches)? These above verses clearly show that the time was to come that God would give Satan victory over the churches!
Look, a lot of people don't like Family Radio or Harold Camping, I understand this. He's actually a very nice man, but his talk show, "Open Forum" he takes very seriously, and doesn't have a sense of humor on it. Matter-of-fact, he doesn't like people calling more than once a month. His 'tell-it-like-it-is" approach certainly hasn't won many people over, and I'm not saying I agree with everything he says. But if you're concerned about the direction of our churches, and if you're really wanting to make sure your children and family are getting a bible-based education, (and for Heaven's sake, I am not talking about "religion" here... religion DOES NOT save us or protect us from our sins..Jesus does. "Religion" has started more wars, trouble, etc.) you owe it to yourself, and your family, to order this book, and study it. Then come up with your own conclusion. Remember, when it comes down to it, in all seriousness - church, any kind at all, is a business. Business, is made up of people! So don't be surprised if you show this book to your pastor and he tells you to take a hike or feels threatened. And remember, "after death, comes the judgment," (book of Hebrews). Where will you be?

I hope amazon posts this, I believe it's good information on this book, and helpful too. Although, it may be too risky for them to, I don't know? But, if you don't, amazon, there's no hard feelings. Thanks

This book is a lot of fun to read, and I would recommend it to any kid who wants something that is exciting and mysterious. It brought back some memories of the time that I went camping, and it was really great to remember it. The story has a lot of twists and turns, and it keeps you on edge throughout the whole book while still having a really great and even cute storyline. If you are thinking about buying this book, you have made a good choice to do so, and hopefully you will decide to buy it! :) Hope this helps!

This book's title infers it is about nature walks, including pictures of nature trails and plants. Some of the reviews say it can be used for hikes. However, it is about CAMPING -- overnight.

Many of the ideas could be used without camping overnight. But I know it will feel to my children like we are not reading it start to finish, or not using it in the way it was intended.

For instance, it will say "Games... for CAMPING," "Food... when you're CAMPING," "Animals may share your CAMPSITE," "I like to pick up leaves... at our CAMPSITE."

I think the title should say CAMPING.

But if you are going camping, it is very nice :o)

This book is a valuable educational resource. I have several books on botany and plant identification, but this book puts it all together on wild food plants. God's Free Harvest is a must for anyone interested in taking advantage of nature's free foods.

The Exciting Review of the Grizzly

Have you ever been stuck in the woods, clawed by a grizzly, or do you love adventure books? If you have, The Grizzly written by Annabel and Edgar Johnson is for you.
David and Mark were camping in the woods near a river. They were finished fishing and were on their way back to camp. When they got there, they saw a black grizzly bear. You'll just have to read The Grizzly to find out.
We recommend you read this book, and we give it 4 out of 5 stars. There were a couple of boring chapters, but otherwise we liked the book.

Have you ever been stuck out in the wilderness by yourself? That's what Sign of the Beaver is like, written by Elizabeth George Speare.
It's about a boy named Matt and his father. It takes place back in the 1800s in a cabin in Main. His father has to ride his horse and walk to Mississippi to pick up Matt's sister and mother. How long do you think it would take his dad to walk and ride a horse all the way there and back? Then his son Matt makes an Indian friend named Attean later in the story, he asks Matt if he wants to join Attean's tribe.
What will Matt say? Will his dad ever come back? Will he join Attean's tribe? We can't tell you, you just have to read the story and find out. We give it five stars because it's a great adventure and thrilling book.

If you like adventure books then "The Grizzly" is for you, but evidently it wasn't a book for us. It was a real letdown book. We were expecting so much more excitement. We wouldn't recommend it to our class. This book written by Annabel and Edger Johnson seemed a little too boring. It starts out with David (son) and Mark(dad) going on a weekend camping trip, but then all goes down hill from there.
What will the grizzly do?
What will happen to this father and his son?
Will they survive?
You'll just have to read "The Grizzly" a*** three star book.

I concur with the review of Hawkeye. I will add that the book has a glossary which can be helpful at times, especially for the beginner. It also has an appendix of "Safe Families" which is unique and gives one a good place to focus your research if you are concerned about misidentification. Book is full of useful tidbits most of which are included in the "edible properties", "medicinal uses" and "other uses" category. The pictures and the plant descriptions are lacking. Apparently no one reviewed the book carefully because the author states in the introduction while speaking of being a responsible forager "We may put tobacco or mulch under the plant, or we may just breathe on it so that it can inhale our carbon monoxide." Carbon monoxide is what comes from car exhaust and carbon dioxide is what we exhale that plants use to make sugars...their food! Maybe an honest mistake but a disappointing statement when you would expect the author to have a good understanding of the inner workings of plants. I am not trying to bash the book or the author, one should look past this and I still feel that the book is useful for what it is and there are things to be learned with the information it contains.

A great companion book...

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Nyerges's book is weak on its photos and plant identification but is excellent as a companion book to all those boring plant ID texts. His book provides excellent background and practical information from someone who has actually used these plants. While geared for California, many of the plants are found across the U.S. especially in the West.

This is very complete as a guidebook to the Flat Tops area. The information about each trail is good, and there are some nice pictures. Since the Flat Tops have such a large network of trails, though, it's sometimes difficult to find a description for a particular stretch. But overall, a nice guide.

This is the "absolute" guide to this Colorado wilderness!

Al Marlowe has "been there - done that" when it comes to the Flat Tops Wilderness Area of Northwest Colorado. He shows a love of this area, not only in his book, but because he comes back to the wilderness every year, as much as his busy schedule allows. Al is a wonderful person to know, and a true lover of the Flat Tops. I would recommend this book to anyone who is considering visiting the area. I used the book as a guide while filming "Island Of The Rockies", Sights and Sounds of the Flat Tops Wilderness during the summer of 1997.

Like father like son! If you remember Bill Adler's Letters from Camp you will enjoy this delightfully humorous, audacious & cute collection of missives from your munchkins! Lot of 21st century rainy days, bunk rot, virtual trips, falling down mountains, strange new camp customs, computer comedy, counsellor shenanigans, ahhas! about peanut butter & chewing gum, skunks & lightning.

Often it's what is NOT said that is hair-raising!

Summer is around the corner, parents why don't you wise-up & pack a copy in your campers' luggage - that way you might get some inspired & funny messages while they are gone!

The Adlers have done it again -- to perfection!

This book is a remake of the famous and huge best-seller, "Kids Letters from Camp" written more than 40 years ago. In this modern version, "Kids E-Mail and Letters from Camp" Bill Adler Jr., son of Bill Adler, has captured the sweetness, poignancy and side-splitting humor of what kids send home via the internet as well as through written letters and postcards. Just as the original reflected the 1950s, this book reflects our current life. (Read both and you'll see some amazing changes in our society.) For example, yesterday's asked for 'CARE" packages with candy. Today's kids are asking for their parents to send them new and interesting fonts for their computers at camp. Some things are the same, though. Kids still won't eat their vegetables.

I teach Leave No Trace skills and awareness of outdoor ethics to Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Scout leaders. The Boy Scouts of America has adopted the principles of Leave No Trace, which is very important for us to practice. As members of the Boy Scouts of America, we should be good stewards of our environment through training and practical application. This book can serve as a valuable resource for Scouts and all citizens concerned about our environment. We all must take responsibility for our decisions when we use the outdoors, and we should treat the environment with respect so future generations can enjoy the outdoors as we do today.

A nice pocket sized guide for beginners.

This little book could be handy for anyone new to the LNT concepts. It gives a good bit of information on techniques and then gives additional information on specific forms of recreation. Little information here will be new to die hard campers (unless they are die hard tailgate campers) but I'll find it extremely usefull in giving instruction to others on LNT concepts. This would make a great stocking stuffer for a Scouter or nice addition to a backpacker's library.
