We bought this book for my 3y.o. son a couple of days ago and he loves it. Though it is very simple compared to what we usually read (he's a big Seuss fan), the pictures are colorful and very creative, and it's a great introduction to animals and colors. Plus, because of it's simple lines and rhymes, it's easy for him to remember and he likes to "read it" himself... as he is interested in "reading" stories to us this is a great experience (with his favorite Seuss books such as The cat in the Hat this is not so easy). I was a bit doubtful about buying this book because he is used to more complex stories, but I'm happy to say that it was a great buy! :-)

I bought this when my son was only a year. I had it on the shelf for a few years without much use. He picked it up one day, and we read it together when he was 3. He wanted me to read it again. That was all he needed, he started to read it back to me.. and to his brother.. and to anyone who would listen. He even recites it when the book is far away. What an impact it has had. A good buy, but wait until they are a bit older than 1. ;)

We bought this book for our twenty-one month old grandson and he just loves it. You have to read it to him four and five times and more every day. It's the book he gives to you to read to him before he goes to bed. It's a great book because he can learn his colors and see different kinds of animals. I would definitely recommend this book.

I started reading this book to my son when he was only a few months old. He is two now and still loves it. Great rhyming and colors.

as part of the bedtime routine for my now 18 mo old boy. Of course, I am able to recite it by rote after oh, about 10,000 times. I don't even have to pay attention any more, as he knows where to turn the pages. Why do I keep doing this night after night? Because every time I ask him if he's ready for his story, he giggles with delight and runs to get Brown Bear, and Goodnight Moon, the other book of our nightly ritual. Brown Bear always comes first, Goodnight Moon always comes last. In between, we vary it with others, like Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear; Quick as a Cricket; Are You My Mother; The Very Hungry Caterpillar; Thomas the Tank Engine; etc. I love Brown Bear for making that sweet little boy express such delight at reading it.

I read this book back in 2002 and 2003 while I was training for my first marathon. I just pulled it out and started reading it again recently and it is such a great book. Full of information and motivation to help with marathon training. I wish I would have gone to a college that offered a marathon class!

I liked the book: it is well-written and has a lot of useful information on how to start running in general and how to train for marathon in particular.

I am a physical therapist who also enjoys (???) running. This past Fall, I finished my 2nd marathon in Appleton, WI. My first was Grandma's in Duluth, MN in 2002 (before children). This second marathon I used the same program but had to add the walk to run progarm in also as I had a one year old and a two year old at home now! I was not quite in the same shape I had been for the previous marathon. The program is wonderfully flexible with only 4 days of training a week. I printed the small schedule in the front chapter up and used to mark off my runs. Reading the chapters a second time still was important to train the mental endurance. As a therapist, I really love the stressing of completion and not speed. Reading each chapter a week helps to mentally prepare for the runs and stay focused on the weekly runs and the marathon itself. It is such an accomplishment to complete the race that setting time goals should only be broad- I'll finish in under 7 hours. I would be very interested in reading the women's book but would love them to write another book for 'subsequent' marathoners. The issues of mental endurance, life balance, and aging bodies would be good additional chapters to write about.
I have used the walk to run program for many of my patients who want to return to their prior level of running after injury with very good results. If you are even thinking of just getting into running this book is a great book and you may just decide 'why not try the marathon'.

Bought this book to start training for the Chicago Marathon. I am 50 years old and have never run a marathon. It is a week-by-week training guide that essentially guarantees that you will be able to finish the marathon if you follow their plan. The book is very easy reading. The chapters are written to read for each week of training. Works with your physical and psychological potential obstacles for completion of the marathon. So far, so good. I'll let you know whether it delivers after October 12, 2008!

As a parent that reads ALOT to her two kids, I need books that will entertain me as well as them- and this is one of those books! The story is funny and the illustrations are wonderful!

This book is an excellent addition to any child's library. The board book edition holds up better to little ones who still chew on their books.

This book makes me chuckle when I'm reading it to my daughter. She's not sure why I think the illustration on the sand castle page with "she got pretty good" is so hilarious--- but it'll slay you if you're a grown-up. These books are really really witty. you hear this a lot- but they're great for kids AND grown-ups!

I would highly recommend this book to any parent who has pre-school aged children. It is a great bed time story.

This is the story that captivated by interest in this author's storytelling. My students love the books! Plus, the book came in excellent condition.

If you give a mouse a cookie is a fabulous book from the mouth watering food pictures, to the non-stop hilerious literature. I love the cute little mouse shown in every fantastic image. I would recommend this for ages 1 to 100. It starts out as a tiny mouse wanting a cookie, then wants more and more. A fun picture book, estatic is a great way to describe this grand piece of art.

Anyone who gives this less than 4 stars is a soulless android. There is NOTHING to not like about this book in a series of 'If you give a ...'! It is laugh out loud funny, great to read, and the pictures are cute and hilarious! The story has a nice touch of irony without forcing a MESSAGE.

I think its wonderful to have a children's book that is so clever and whimsical - hard to find one nowadays. Not only does my 6-yr old love it, but I love it myself. :-)

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie is a modern classic, beloved by children everywhere. It is also a book that teaches about sequential action and consequence. For example, if you give a mouse a cookie, he is going to ask for a glass of milk. If you give him a glass of milk, he will probably ask for straw. As the book continues, the drink leads to a napkin, which leads to a mirror (to check for a milk mustache), which leads to a haircut, which leads to cleaning up, etc., and so forth. The tale eventually comes full circle, with thirst leading to a glass of milk, which leads back to giving a mouse a cookie. And of course, if you give a mouse a cookie...

My three year old and I love reading this together at bedtime. I start the sentence on each page ("If you give a mouse an xxxx...), and she shouts out the end of the sentence (",...he is going to xxxx."). The result is lots of giggles which are very nice right before bedtime.

This fun, entertaining book is beautifully illustrated with rich, detailed, colorful drawings. I highly recommend this book for small children and beginning readers, and I guarantee that it will quickly become a family favorite.

I have to bow down to this book as the best grilling book EVER. We've tried many of the recipes and never been disappointed. Plus, it's entertaining to read with great pictures. Can't ask for much more than that.

Fantastic book with lots of great grill instructions and recipies. Wished that every recipie had a picture but it does'nt.

I received this book as a gift,all have benefited! We've tried about half of the recipes, each is easy to follow with simple ingredients, and delicious.

Here we have one of those rare culinary volumes which is actually helpful, and inside, you'll discover a treasure of grilling knowledge. Clearly, this is the bible for outdoor chefs.

I sort of specialize in gourmet outdoor cooking effecting all techniques including (but not limited to) grilling, smoking, dutch oven, cooking on a spit, and open campfire, utilizing many different woods and devices to achieve my ends. I don't limit my outdoor cooking to meats and barbeque -- I do Chinese, desserts, seafood and all manner of side dishes. This book contains very excellent rubs, sauces, and meal recipes that you'll find are difficult to beat -- the methods are quite clear and the book is as useful for the grilling veteran as it is for the newcomer to these skills. I know of no better work on this topic.

i just got this a few days ago and my first impressions, without actually trying any of the techniques, were that it wasn't looking very practical. but the author cautions not to just go through each technique (among dozens) in the order presented but to try a couple that look like they might interest you most and play around with them and then go on from there.

so after scanning awhile i saw what is supposedly salvadore dali's image generation method. yeah right, i thought. well, that worked the first time i tried it. and i sketched it out and it didn't look like a dali, but it was the most imaginative sketch i've ever come up with. it was a man riding through the air on a hobby horse above a pavillion tent. and he was thinking about how glad he was that he didn't crash into the tent. i added more adults in the air playing with childrens' toys (jump rope, pogo stick, tricycle etc.) and the children down outside the pavillion wanting their toys back. beats going out to the park and 'copying' as van gogh called it.

so next i took those words associated with the image and i plugged them into a technique that looked to me like one of the most impractical in the book. and i got an idea that i've been looking for. and that idea rendered a cool poem. most of the examples in the book look to be "business/career challenge" oriented but at least some of these techniques will also inspire raw creativity. be creative about using the toys.

take it from a skeptic. this stuff rocks. but you have to actually use it, not just read about it. i'm so thrilled that i have this book. YAY!

As a consultant, I am regularly engaged in combined sessions with clients. This book gives an excellent overview of the tools and techniques to use, but is more broad than deep. For me, it works fine. For someone who wants to do very specific creative activities, it doesn't give enough examples and practical application.

I have about 400 books in my library and Thinkertoys (with Thinkpak) is the best book I've read so far. The book is full with creative tools and puzzles to play with. The book comes to me at the right time since I am about to start my own business and the book provides a lot of insight, ideas and techniques. Thank you Mr. Michalko for creating the "toys".

This book, together with my treasured Roger von Oech books, sit prominently on my bookshelf when working on a variety of problems - software development, film production, creative writing for scripts or novels, and developing opportunities in this mediacentric age. These books break open your mind from the restrictive fences imposed on our thinking by the conventional world that we are surrounded by. These fences need to be torn down. If you are an older person (probably older than 30!), then your thinking will become ossified. Just like using your muscles, you need to rework your brain and your thinking with effort to create opportunities and connections to emerging technologies and new developments.

This book is a must for anyone in business who is in need of fresh, limitless ways to create the ideas and creative strategies businesses need these days of uncertainty and complexity. I got my copy from my manager who gives one to all new employees.

This was one of my favorites as kid. Then, sadly, I forgot about it until stumbling across it in the school library. It is once again one of my favorites. Cynics might roll their eyes at this tribute to good ol' days gone by, but I personally appreciate the nostalgia and the house with its subtle face parts is adorable. You feel so bad for the cute little house! It is also an observation at the change of time. I don't know how intense that is as a theme, but I found it touching and Burton tells the tale with such heart and care.

We live in a very old house in the country and this book was such a cute story about just that. We enjoyed it.

Another timeless classic by this author. It's an amazing story about appreciation. Completely entertaining and like the other books in this series, the artwork is phenominal!!!

The book has excellent content, however the new version, 2003, is printed in an awful font, hard to read, boring to look at and so on. The original version was written in an easy to read font and contents were in different colors. It was easy to find what you were looking for when your up in the middle of the nite with a sick baby. In their attempt to cut costs, the publisher has really diminished the value of this product.

This book has finally combined all views of medicine from the conventional to the all-natural. I enjoyed sharing this book with my pediatrician, who had great things to say about my approach. I love this book and reach for it every time I suspect a cold or illness. We use it for the entire family! Great all around book. I would give this book to ANYONE, not just those seeking natural treatments.

This is the book I get for all of my friends when they are expecting.It has been incredibly helpful for me with my 3 kids and also with the children I watch (I do home daycare). I highly recommend it to everyone. The adult version is excellent too.

I used this book and a homeopathy book in raising my two children. It is all you will need. It gives you the right information to make decisions on whether you should rush them to the hospital, or give them a homeopathic remedy or other natural treatment. The book aids you in making logical and informed decisions for you children. For those of you who still might think homeopathy is "snake oil", think again. I cured teething problems, colics, ear aches, tummy aches, coughs, bumps and bruises, minor burns, bee stings, and if you pick the right remedy, the kids get better in seconds. If you don't vaccinate your kids, this is an even more important resource because of detailed information on conditions that even the (allopathic, that is) doctor may not know about. Thank you Janet Zand and other authors for giving parents the knowledge and tools to treat our children naturally and keep them healthy.

I bought this hoping would help my daughter and my family, but was very disappointed when something really happens, I can't find a way to deal with it. Take a easy example, my daughter has this eczema and I tried to find a easy way to help her at home, but all I could find from the book are some very strange medicines that I've never heard of before. I guess maybe it's strictly for people who are familiar with homeopathy, but not for me definately!

It has been a very long time since I cried all the way through a book. With pleasure. I read half of it in one sitting, unwilling to break the spell of the stories and emotions it contains. For the horses and the children portrayed in the book this remarkable woman's life is a testimony to the value of faith and love. For the rest of us, we can take inspiration and do our best to do what we can to bring change and healing in our own spheres.
Hope Rising: Stories from the Ranch of Rescued Dreams

This book took me a little longer than normal to finish because I had to put down between stories as it kept tearing my heart out. The stories of healing and compassion are so very heartwarming but it was the author's own story of overcoming tragedy and how she managed to turn her life into one of servitude to broken souls is what truly captured my attention. Many people would have sunk into a deep depression and a life of "why me?" but she instead turned it around to help others and if she got a little preachy I was able to brush it off because it seemed like her faith was something that helped her get through the rough days. This was a very inspiring book and I hope she someday writes a book based on her life and her struggles to get where she is today.

To all of us men that grew up not knowing how to cry (and being ashamed if we did), it is probably best not to get this book. Otherwise, you will shed tears and it will touch your life.

If you can overcome that, make sure you get the next book that Kim Meeder wrote after this one.

The one story of the little boy and the horse that hugged him...well you're just going to have to read it. This book is filled with wonderful stories that is a must for every horse lover out there! (Christian or not)

Hart, in refreshingly plain English, tackles this condition for effective business decision making in a free market economy. Rupert Hart's book is very timely. As he quotes John Kenneth Galbraith, 'financial memory is about 10 years. That is about the time between one episode of sophisticated stupidity, and the next.' Given that we've not had a real recession for that amount of time, a book like this provides a useful refresher on how to survive and prosper in a recession. The book itself reminds me of my MBA marketing course, covering key subjects such as the business environment, customers, pricing, new product development and new markets. It is a very useful primer, reiterating what we probably have already learned but maybe do not pay attention to day to day, but it is more relevant because it is targeted at today's business environment.

Recession storming is a relatively short book that presents a collection of strategies on how to compete in recessions or down-markets. For the most part these strategies are applicable in any market where a company is faced with strong competition.

The book is well organized in five sections. The first section covers
understanding the business environment during a recession or down-market and its impact on your business. The next four sections present strategies for maximizing your profits, revenue, or market share through leveraging a business's existing customers, pricing strategies, and the development of new products and new markets.

I enjoyed reading this book and found it thought provoking, informative, and full of pertinent real world examples supporting each strategy. Its value is as a primer or survey of competitive techniques rather than an exhaustive textbook. I recommend this book to anyone responsible for establishing or implementing strategy in a business facing a down market or aggressive competition (sounds like most businesses today!)

Rupert Hart's book "Recession Storming" is chock full of practical, insightful and resourceful tips for helping your company thrive during an economic or sector-based downturn. Hart's book is easy to read with a massive amount of real-world examples. It is well organized with a very detailed table of contents and index. In addition, each chapter is well structured with the concept, the supporting sections, and the summarizing conclusion.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to help their company not just survive but thrive (except my competitors who I hope never read it)!
