What do you expect? It is a comprehensive overview of these model bikes. Covers in depth information, but I wanted it for basic maintainence. Unless you are MacGyver, this is good for oil changes, chain maintanence and other basics. Otherwise, you can figure out how to turn your ZX-7R into a mini-submarine.

I have always had a secret liking for Harley-Davidsons. My brother used to own one and would let me ride with him every once in a while, and then there is always the bike run that stops at the Dairy Queen. I sit on my patio faithfully every year and listen to the thunder leave town.
I received a book in the mail a few weeks ago from an old friend of mine about a trip he and his three friends had taken. A motorcycle trip (on none other then Harley-Davidson's) through Mexico. They say never judge a book by its cover, but I did and much to my surprise, it was an awesome book.
Their adventure starts in Laredo, Texas and it literally takes you through Mexico without leaving your chair. The way the author writes it you feel as though you are along on the ride and you are seeing what they are seeing first hand. He talks about going through customs, Spanish speaking locals, banditos, road conditions - toll roads as opposed to back roads, and just plain fun fast riding. The pictures, maps, and informative information in the book complete the story. It is an easy and enjoyable read.
They rode 3,000 miles in 9 days and they got a whole lot of great memories out of the trip.
You hear the song " Born to be Wild" - and one of the verses goes like this, " Get your motor runnin'ead out on the highway lookin' for adventureand whatever comes our way," you truly get that feeling reading this book.
The name of the book is La Ropa Sucia, by Owen L. Riess.

I love riding and I love reading motorcycle adventure books. Unfortunately I was left wanting more after reading Dirty Laundry - as it's a fun little read about the travels of four friends through Mexico, but for me it felt like Riess was skipping over way too many of the juicy details of the ride - which just left me wanting more. So here I am on Amazon buying other motorcycle adventure books and writing a review. I do admire the adventuress spirit and courage required by Riess and Co. to take such a trip - "bravo"! Pictures are a fun addition. Easy, 1 hour read.

As a Laverda owner (1997 Diamante), I feel there has been little written about these amazing bikes. They are Italian, have exotic components, but aren't Ducatis! Mick Walker covers the subject matter well in about 172 pages, but I would have liked to see more information about the Zane bikes. Perhaps a separate book on Zane bikes alone would be worth considering. If you own one, better grab a copy of this book while they're still available.

Author Mick Walker, a man who is passionate about Italian motorcycles, takes a stab at the exotic Laverda twins and triples. As an owner of many of these incredible machines, I found this book to be very insightful and detail-oriented. Many great pictures, most unseen before with a fantastic color photo section. Plenty of new information. A must-have for the Laverda owner or for those who desire to own one.

the book is an above average Motocourse which is great, but the dust jacket is defective, seems like it is coming apart, and covered with a wierd film, people tend to collect these, so it probably warrants a return, has anyone had a simliar experience?? are they all like this??

This is not the perfect book about MotoGP or Superbike, but it is rather close. The facts and information are very good in this book...the presentation is also well-done and the photographs are wonderful. I only wish that there were more statistical information about races past. (I bought the "MotoGP Results" annual for that purpose.) However, I would definitely recommend this to the veteran race fan who needs to get his or her race information fix in a rather large coffee table book! If you like photos, this is a good book for you!

I have been tinkering with motorcycles and dirtbike for 39 years now. I really enjoyed reading and re-reading this book. It contains practical examples on many different models and years of commonly available bikes and also the theory behind how it all works.
I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to get better at riding and maintaning dirtbikes.

This is a good book and the only one of its kind of which I am aware. On that basis, I can recommend it heartily. However, there is plenty of room for improvement in future editions. Most obviously, the balance of coverage needs to be tipped in the direction of 4-strokes. At present there is a 4-stroke chapter, but it follows three longer chapters on 2-strokes engines and repairs. The other serious weakness, in my view, is the lack of a complete and detailed index. The publisher cut more than a few corners here. There are tons of missing entries: tire, tire pressure, tire selection, tire mounting ... just to give one example. And some entries are silly: "two-stroke engine" with two pages cited, despite the fact that there are three chapters relating to the subject. But all that said, there is plenty of really useful information in the book. The chapter on tuning tips, for instance, is wonderful, as is the extensive range of illustrations.

This book has some very interesting information on the areas of western NC. The details are accurate and I do plan to take the motorcycle tours as the book describes. This book is ideal for anyone planning to visit western NC, motorcycle or not. If you live here like I do, you will still get some useful information.

With basically one day to plan my trip (so I am a bit last-minute these days), this book was an indespensible boost in the good-time department. It is a great book to get you started, and provides all the necessary clues to create your own journeys. After a couple of days, you get to understand the way the maps illustrate the individual roads, and marty's book helps you identify the best kinds to explore. Sometimes the routes get confusing, but that just adds to the adventure. Makes a great gift, as I told the friend who got it for me.

This book is a collection of articles published about the RE big twins (500 - 750). I had expected a comprehensive history, written by a knolwedgeable person, rather than a compendium of reproduced period articles. What is missing as any overall insights into the bikes, from which models or years had what kind of problems and strenths, to selecting a big twin and making it into a reliable modern-day daily rider, to any type of aggressive riding comparsion between it and any of its popular contemporaries (Norton twins, especially the 750/850 isolastic series, the later unit Triumph 650, unit BSA twins, etc.). It was enjoyable for what it was, but I felt the lack of any insight provided by an expert in 50s-60s British twins.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I ordered this book, but as a 1970 Series II Interceptor owner, my curiousity pushed me into the purchase. It turns out that the book is a collection of articles and advertisements that appeared in the British and American motorcycle press "back in the day." A few of the last articles in the compilation were published recently in magazines devoted to classic bikes, but the vast majority of the material was written and published at the time the bikes were offered new for sale. I remember reading some of the articles when they were first published, but there was enough material I hadn't seen before to make the book worthwhile in my case.
Most of the articles and advertisements were reproduced at a decent quality level. Figures and tables were generally OK. There was one table on "carburretor" adjustment that was so dark that it was unreadable. The reproduction is faithful to the original, so errors in the original manuscripts are carried over into the compilation.
I thought the coverage was quite balanced. Both good and bad reviews were included. Positive and negative marks were shared. It was interesting to see the evolution of the Interceptors from 1962 until the end in 1970. It was also interesting to watch the evolution of the defense of the marque against the speculation about its demise. As you undoubtedly know, Enfield's motorcycle manufacturing in England ceased in 1970. Manufacturing of single cylinder 1955 model Royal Enfield's in India began in 1955, and continues to this very day.
If you have an interest in the Royal Enfield twin cyclinder motorcycles, I think you'll find this book to be well worth its modest cost. I was disappointed when I first saw that it was just a collection of articles, but as I read it, I really enjoyed it.

Very well written; I have several books by Falloon and enjoy them all. Great pictures and interesting data. Some of the tables are a little hard to decipher, but with time and patience it can be done. I would recommend this book to any Ducatisti or Ducatista and any follower of Falloon. Great service from the Book Rack also.

I own a Suzuki GS450TXZ, and bought this manual as a supplement to the Clymer manual I've had for years. The first thing I noticed was that the photography and diagrams were excellent. Very close, clear and detailed pictures of the parts being worked on. I also found the text to be consise and straightforward.
If there is anything lacking in the book, it was that the bulk of it only refers to the 250 and 400 models. All information about the 450 was put into the last couple of chapters. One was expected to flip between the instructions for disassembly in the front of the book, then flip back to find the proper calibration numbers in the back.
In the end, though, I find the book worth having.
