This book will help u get to your stages u want to get to. Some of the tricks you have to do on bigger jumps because you have to get more air time but build up slowly on ramps and get into bigger tricks. You never know you might be in the x games or gravity games.

Not for beginners

Being a beginner, I was hoping to see at least one chapter of "how to jump" or even a few chapters on "beginning freestyle jumps". But, if you are an experienced jumper, this book is for you. Great pics and instructions. Just too advanced for my abilities.

This book was easy and very helpful with my performance.

If your looking for tips and how to ride like the pro's then you got to get this book. It was easy to understand if you know all the terms. It really helped my performance and now I do better on the track. This is a must get for any dedicated MotoCross Rider.

From Cross to Cross was fantastic! The author takes you with him
and you are totally absorbed.I couldn't wait to pick the book up again to continue on the adventures. You will laugh out loud and
feel all his happiness and sadness thoughout the journey. I didn't want it to end-but I did love the ending very much.

I loved the book. It brought me back many years into my own head, my own thoughts and my life growing up. His language is just so free and easy to read, it seems as if he's sitting next to you and talking directly to you.
His writing voice is wonderful. Now I just have to hear what he really sounds like.
The book is a treat, and I highly reccomend it.

From Cross To Cross is one Hell of a ride. The actual motorcycle trip being just the skeleton for the trip he takes in his mind.
The author has a wonderful way with words, and relates some very funny stories all the while questioning his life as a Jew in the Christian world.
I enjoyed the read. I laughed out loud in many places and I'm hearing his questions over and over in my own head as if they were my own.
I recommend From Cross To Cross no matter your religious belief or your ethnic background.

This is the perfect garage calendar for any man. The models in this calendar are sexy and can operate some heavy equipment. Ms. September has an interresting array of tools on her pegboard. The vivid photography is well laid out and very pleasing to the eye. You'll want to spend more private time in your garage with this calendar. The actual calendar part is kinda small and out of the way, but every day is like Christmas with the 2001 Garage Girls in your garage.

.

If you own a Sportster made in the years covered by this book, you need this book.

Buying this book and using the tools you already have (you do have and know how to use hand tools...right?) you will save a lot of money doing your own basic maintenance and some not so basic stuff. Even if you just use the manual to tell your wrench what is wrong.

This is also very helpful if you plan on customizing your ride. Mine is now a bar-hopper. It helps in selecting parts that will fit your ride, by knowing what parts are stock and what after market parts will work. Buying parts that don't fit is an expensive lesson.

Good book but with a few shortcomings

Lots of good info. Lots of diagrams and the book is broken down into chapters about specific areas of the bike and goes step by step for fixing most problems. Some good troubleshooting info. Not much info on some areas like the wiring for the lights and some things are hard to find but overall DEFINATELY worth the money. If you own one of these bikes and want to do your own maint. Buy this book.

The level of maintenance I was to perform had me apprenhensive about buying a maintenance book that is less comprehensive than factory manual. This book actually surprised me and took details down to levels that were more than adequate. Very little was left to imagination. Comprehensive enough for the back yard mechanic.

Review Date: 2006-02-25
The manual is quite comprehensive but the differences in the 220 and 300 engine are substantial and the book focused on the 300 engine. It will say something like, "do this procedure, but if you are working on the 220 engine there will only be one screw instead of two. The engine pictures are of the the 300 so they don't necessarily match. Book is great if you own a 300. Only OK if you own a 220 like me.

A history of past and present riders and safety information
Helpful Votes: 15 out of 15 total.
Review Date: 1998-03-08
Hear Me Roar is a fascinating chronicle of the lives of past and present female motorcycle riders. The inspiring riders date from the early 1900's to the present, street and race drivers, young and old. Any female motorcycle rider who reads this book will feel proud to be a part of this ongoing history.

The practical sections in Hear Me Roar regard safety and risk management, rally information, clubs, and advice on choosing a first bike. This is a great addition for a person's personal library as well as for a club lending library. The information in the practical sections is "must reading" for new riders.

"Why do I really love this book? Not only because I respect the hard work and sacrifice required to produce it, but because I want a copy for my grandchildren. I want them to know that I was a participant in the middle years of the struggle to gain acceptance for women in motorcycling. I want them to be proud to know that their grandmother cared about motorcycling and women and that she joined not a group of scuzbags, but a group of interesting, exciting, energetic, on-the-edge women who ventured into a man's world and made it a world for all. What a concept!"

Empowerment for Life from a Two-Wheeled Thrill
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 1996-10-11
When we see a woman on a motorcycle, we can't help but wonder who she is, what her life must be like, and what makes her ride. Author Ann Ferrar traveled across the country on her own motorcycle to answer those questions for us. And the answer vibrates as resolutely as an American V-Twin, crosses boundaries in dual-sport fashion, and powers motorcross style over life's bumps and potholes. Ms. Ferrar has documented the history, heritage, and heart of women motorcyclists from California to New York. Not content for this to be merely a lesson of the past, she has captured the essence of current female motorcyclists. Her final reference chapters regarding choosing motorcycles, gear, training, and camraderie, light a high-powered halogen headlight for our future women riders.

A book that gives women wings

Review Date: 1997-12-19
This is the first book of which I am aware that identifies and follows--literally "on the road"--a group of women who have found a sport that is at once an exhilarating physical activity, a mode of transportation, and a recreation that makes its own political statement: I can do it myself! I don't need to cling to the back of a man while he guides the machine through the traffic of the world. I love the way the author, Ann Ferrar, has shown the multi-class, multi-cultural, multi-spirit of the women described here. I love her spirited prose and the photographs she (mostly) made herself. I love the fact that she--a tiny, curly-haired intellectual woman--committed herself to this idea and this project to show the rest of us what we are missing. Read this book, women, then try your wings!

This is what a good, accurate, detailed motorcycle book is supposed to be. You get great information and fantastic pictures of original, historically important motorcycles, their riders and the facts that go with them. There is so much speculation these days by people who think they remember what happened, or what a bike was supposed to look like, or when a particular feature was added or changed in a particular model line. This book sets a lot of that straight. It seems the author knows and has spoken personally to the factory racers, mechanics, engineers and competitors to get the information. I got the impression that the author and the historic people themselves were good friends! I got a kick out of the Soichiro Honda quote the first time he rode the great CB 750 in 1969. It really brings characters to life.

Jeff Hackett is frequently used as a resource, as he is one of the top authorities on photographing and restoring old Hondas among other motorcycles. Many of the top authorities, authors and restorers have been accessed to create this book. To top it off I get great, color, engine-out photos of the famous RC-166 and RC-160 motors that so much legend has been made of.

This all in consideration, the book is not the absolute last word on Honda motorcycles, as many models, specifically US models and some others have been omitted or intentionally left-out. Thankfully, there are other top notch books like that written by Bill Silver that pick up any slack that was omitted herein, but this is the best effort so far at being far better than any "coffee table book" and definitely a must for the restorer or researcher. This is not a re-hashed and fluffed-up "coffee table book", as it is really an up-to-date, detailed history with a bit of myth and legend mixed it for good balance and flow. You should read it end to end; but, you can just as easily flip through it now and then for a "fix" as well. Either way, this is one book you should have in your collection.

For the record, I have personally started restoring old Hondas and this book no doubt will pay for itself repeatedly over the years as I take on new projects!

Jon Kosmoski, the pioneer of custom painting for motocycles and autos. His name just says the phrase "House of Kolor."

This book is well written. The content is well related to custom painting a motorcycle and a truck. You need to be very creative to do this type of custom painting. This book definately helped me do my custom paint job. I would recommend this book to anyone, but then again, like I have said earlier, do not rely only on this one book as your sole source for custom paint jobs.

The book was helpful but spent a lot of time on no brainers like staying clean, etc.

Absent was any decent discussion of HVLP painting let alone technique differences. This is the way starters will paint and more should be devoted to it.

I found the Illustrated Directory of Harley-Davidson Motorcycles a very informative and enjoyable read, but field guide or reference book it is not- less a reference book/ field guide and more of a non-fiction novel about Harley Davidson.

It required you to read it chronologically and is not very handy as an identification guide (there is no more than one picture per model listed). You have to read several pages before the page you are reading to really get what the author is talking about.

I live in California, and there are racing bikes and Harley Motorcycles all over the place. It's nice to have some kind of reference for Motorcycles. I bought three copies, but this edition is the best in that it is portable and is very comprehensive. It includes relevant statistical information such as speed, engine size, and year; plus there is a written portion on the history of each bike. Many important Harley's, such as the XR 750 are covered. The Salamander/Motorbooks/Illustrated Directory series is very good and I highly recommend the whole series.

If you own a competition ski boat such as a Malibu, the least thing you should be concerned about is spending $25 on a book. This book will answer just about every basic maintenance question you have. It includes all of Indmar's service schedules, lots of pics. of equipment that you will recognize because it's in your boat, and some wiring diagrams.

Every Malibu owner should have this book! There is no other book out there with this much Malibu specific information!
