After purchasing this book I was able to repair both front and back brakes and put on a new rear tire. Doing my own work with the assistance of the step-by-step directions in this book helped me save many dollars in repair bills. When putting your machine back together, this book points out any little quirks that you might run into when you reverse the order of the steps you took in the tear-down. This is much better than other repair manuals that simply say- reverse the steps- or some such.

All fluid levels and tolerance are listed in easy-to-find tables. The book is divided up into sections that make it easy to find whatever area of repair or maintenance you are focusing on. The blown up diagrams clearly labeled and described in the text are a real plus.

A must have for the owner of this classic machine who is also a do-it-yourself type of person too.

As a non-mechanic, I found this book to be easy to follow. The great illustrations and photos makes motorcycle repair and maintenance to be a breeze!

As with all Clymer motorcycle manuals, this one walks you step-by-step through everything you need to do to do everything from changing sparkplugs to rebuilding the engine. I used it replace the clutch, set valve clearance, synchronize the carbs, and many other tasks, saving myself, literally, hundreds of dollars.

This manual provides reasonably good black and white pictures and drawings of parts to accompany detailed descriptions of teh GS850 motorcycle. Particulary good is chapter 7 that explains the changes post 1981. I am not a technician so the accuracy of certain topics may not be 100% however it is perfect for my needs. (Actually a technician that helped me was thrilled to have the manual to refer to!). The british lexicon makes some spots difficult to understand but the dictionary of synonomous terms helps you get beyond this hurdle. This manual is a must for the near antique GS850 owners.

This is a great book for someone who loves working on cars/motorcycles. If you've used a Haynes Repair Manual for your car, you know you'll expect the same great detail from this book too. The only drawback in this book (as is in most Haynes books) is that there aren't many basic explanations on components. I would highly recommend "The Essential Guide to Motorcycle Maintenance" by Zimmerman to augment this repair manual. This book will give you an insight on the workings of the motorcycle so you know how the stuff works when you use the Haynes repair manual.

I have been riding bikes for years, and I have been riding hard. Because I end up doing my own repairs, I needed a GOOD book. The Clymer's Manuals have been invaluable to me. One of the best overall guides to any motorcycle. Specs, diagrams, accurate pics...you want it, the Clymer has it...

So far I have not had a problem with my bike that I could not fix myself with the help of this book.

the thriller book by Polidoro is unique and a historical fictional story at the annual NH Motorcycle Rally and Races at Weirs Beach. It is a mystery that will take you through a unexpected death or two, lots of tattoos, sex, black leather and motorcycle history and a bucolic NH town turned deadly. A must read for motorcycle enthusiasts who ride Harleys, rice rockets, Ducatis or attend the Bike Rallies at Sturgis, Dayton or Laconia each year. 2007 is the 84th year for Laconia. You dont have to have a tattoo to read it and it may make you want one; then again, maybe not! Keep the rubber side down and face to the sun!

This book has been out of print for years and it is hands down the best book out there on roadracing a motorcycle. Code's books are obtuse and difficult to read and this is simple and direct from one of the most talented roadracers ever. It covers set-up, training, bike prep, testing and more. All more from the perspective of what Roberts did when he raced rather than a step by step process of "how to". The book is ghost written in the first person and is a little cocky (which you'd expect) and dated (since it was written in the 80's) but none of this really detracts as it's a fantastic insight into one of the greatest racers of our time. If you race motorcycles you must have this in your library.

Apparently this nifty book has not received sufficient attention yet or been noticed among the dozens of tomes about Harley this year, but in my estimation it is the most coherent and certainly the most wall-worthy. The clever publishers have made the 100 year history into a 15 page fold-out suitable for display on walls in gearhead garages worldwide. On the reverse, the Harley models are summarized. My highest recommendation as an inexpensive yet comprehensive guide to all things Harley. Even the facts and dates about the Hells Angels are correct!
