This is a fun book about a very healthy form of exercise. Great photos of bikes for everyday cycling as opposed to racing from around the world.

Informative, up to date, and beautifully illustrated.
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 11 total.

This is one of the most up to date bicycle repair manuals that I have seen. Includes sections on selecting a bike, necessary tools, quick fixes, advanced repairs and maintenance, and bike extras. All information is given in easy to understand language (there's even a glossary for those of us who want to learn the latest cycling jargon). What stands out most, however, are the full-color photos and illustrations. This book is not only useful, but fun to look at. The Bike Book is definitely the best value in a bicycle repair and maintenance manual that can be found anywhere.

Mind candy

I purchased this book and also the Bicycle Builder's Bonanza by the same author because I wanted ideas on how to build my own recumbent bike or trike. The plans and details are awesome, and Brad often explains why certain design decisions were made. I think the best thing about the book is that it inspires me to go out and build something. My mind is already cranking on how to modify the designs presented in the book. Now, my only problem is deciding between the Delta Wolf and the Street Fox!

Blood, Sweat and Gears - A must read for all motorcyclists!
Helpful Votes: 13 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 2000-12-06
Yes his name is Flash Gordon and he is a medical doctor with some very interesting experiences and credentials. He is also a motorcyclist who rides a fine BMW motorcycle. Doc Flash, like many of us motorcyclists, will use any excuse for a ride and I count him among my favorite riders to look for at rallies and ride-ins. His book is a collection of articles that he wrote for a California based cycle periodical. They are pithy, humorous and are very useful. After reading the chapter concerning what one should carry in their first aid kit, I immediately checked out my kit and realized I wasn't really ready to take care of anything more that a scratch. I have already checked out my local pharmacy for the gauze, ointment and tape I should be carrying. The section concerning what should and should not be done at an accident site is must reading for everyone, not just motorcyclists. This chapter alone is worth the price of the book. As Doc Flash points out those first few minutes at an accident scene can make all the difference in the world. I'm sure my riding friends appreciate the fact that I am better informed and will be able to do the right thing should the occasion arise. Doc Flash has quite a sense of humor and it shows in his writing. Don't be surprised or offended at the language he uses at times. Just his way of making a point. And he does make quite a few points in his articles. The book is easy to read and can be finished in one evening. My wife asked me what I was laughing about several times and when I read her several sections she laughed as well. We both enjoyed the book. I highly recommend all motorcyclists get Doc Flash's book. Entertaining and useful reading.

Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.

It's concise and cheap and it says a lot of how the R100RS was thought and projected. The pictures are interesting. If you don't know the history of this bike, and you own one of it, you should really read it: you'll know you ride a piece of motorcyclist engineering history. If you already know, buy it all the same!

The book is very factual and very well written. It covers the history of the Salt Flats from the beginning in the early 20's. It brought back some great memories for some of us veteran drivers. I've been going there since 1949. The club I'm in, Land Speed Racers, has 2 of the original participants still racing. Dwayne McKinney and myself, David Ratliff. The pictures show a wide variety of cars, drivers and equipment. I'm glad to have been a small part of this history and happy to still be going to the Flats. See you on the Salt! Dave Ratliff

This book, which I first read nearly 30 years ago, still fills me with awe as I turn the pages today. The line illistrations and photographs are so sharp and crisp that I have been able to identify the two models I have seen immediately I viewed them. It also gives an insight into the characters who developed, built and road these original Super Bikes long before the term came into modern vogue. From 2,3 and 4 wheels George Brough built only the best. This book is truely superior

This is a great book on the history of BSA motorcycle production. Wright tells the story of how the Company lived and changed through decades of manufacturing. BSA was a very strong brand at one time and even advertised themselves as, "The Most Popular Motorcycle in the World." Wright explains the marketing decisions BSA made through the years and why they moved in the directions they did. Wright is obviously well informed and interested in the subject, which makes his style very classy. The Birmingham Small Arms Company did not always make the best decisions, but even when describing the company's downfalls, Wright treats the subject with respect. His reader is kept interested with "insider" details about the Company and there are enough pictures of BSA bikes to keep any owner satisfied. The book contains detailed information about individual models, so you can learn about bikes you may have only heard of or seen once. All the bikes are in there, from thumper to tripple with clearly reproduced photos. This book is a must-have for your BSA library.
