Helpful Votes: 18 out of 19 total.
Review Date: 1998-07-08
The book contains hundreds of photograhps of mainly the BMW R12 and some of the R75. All photographs are taken in Worldwar II and represent valuable historic information on how these bikes were used in combat. It also reveals the strategies being used by motorcycle companies and shows some of the human suffering of this era. Furthermore it contains valuable technical information, drawings and exploded views of the BMW R75. Highly recommended to anyone interested in this part of the history or for those who are involved in BMW R12 or R75 restoration.

An outstanding review of the first 3 years of the BUB Trials for motorcycles. Horst does an excellent job of capturing the bikes, the Salt and the personalities that populate the salt during the event. This is a great book and exceedingly well done and tells the bike week story perfectly.

As all the Haynes Workshop Manuals I've bought, it was exactlly what I was looking for.I consider this manual is the first step of a proffessional restoration of a classic bike.

Best A7/10 manual available

This was Haynes' 1st repair manual and it is the best single-source manual for pre-unit twin BSAs. As in all subsequent Haynes manuals, their staff actually dismantles and rebuilds a BSA, presenting readers with photos of the whole operation. This book and a copy of the spares manual are all you need to keep your Golden Flash, etc. in fine trim.- Bill Litant, president emeritus, BSA OWners Club of New England

If you saw the movie, "The World's Fastest Indian", and want to know more about Burt Munro, BUY this book. It was written by one of Burt's closest friends and tells Burt's life story. It rambles some at times, but is full of information on Burt and has b&w and color pictures.

There is much more to Burt Munro than the movie could cover and he led a fascinating life, actually racing motorycles (including the Indian in the movie) in Australia and New Zealand for decades before going to Bonneville numerous times in his later years. If you want to know the whole story of Burt Munro, this book is a must.

This guy was smart. Not book smart but real world smart. A good read and as R. Merritt said the movie does not come close to capturing the complexity and realality of what this man did in his life. I'm inspired by this book but unlike the NY Times writer who said this story is "...just Seabicuit on wheels.." I consider this story a common mans tale of the human spirit

Chiltons is the most extensive and well known repair manual available today, not only to help newcomers to the mechanical field, but also as a reference for experienced mechanics. I almost always consult my Chiltons repair guide before getting my hands dirty. THANKS CHILTONS.

This book is quite a tome and seems to cover everything to keep your K series in top shape. Anyone who has some mechanical ability and wants to do their own service and mechanical work should have few problems by following the step by step instructions. The only complaint I have is the continuous warnings about various possible dangers; for example, using petrol/gas as a cleaning solvent. Do we really need to have these warnings repeated ad nauseum, sometime 5 times on the same page? I think the book could be 20 pages less without these! I suppose the warnings are there to avoid litigation problems in the USA. Otherwise, a very useful book. I personally would have no hesitation in tackling any repair work with this book at hand.

There is finally a saviour to us millions of owners of single cylinder OHC Honda engines and bikes.

Clymer have produced a book with a wealth of information on every Honda unit (as best I can tell) for the last 35 years. Regardless of wether you want information in regards to general service or for a complete overhaul this will have it.

Wether you have the original manuals or not you will require this book if you wish to do your own service work. Just make sure you check you are reading about the right engine/bike before you do anything.

This book was packed full of very useful information, and was a joy to read. I normally can't just sit down and read a book like this, I've got a very short attention span. The Complete Idiot's Guide to Motorcycles, 4th Edition (Complete Idiot's Guide to) had just enough humor packed in with all the information to keep me from being overloaded, and kept me looking forward to the next page. It took me less than a week of evenings to finish reading this, and I find myself re-reading sections every now and then.

Definitely a great book for the first-time rider. I own my own motorcycle now, and had a much better idea of what to expect thanks to this book.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

Ducati Twins Restoration Guide: Bevel Drive 1971-1985 (Authentic Restoration Guides)

If you are serious about bevel twins this is a "must have"

Mick Walker has been into Ducatis for as long as I can remember. He had a dealership in the 60s and 70s, as well as being involved in the racing side. Now Mick and his brother Rick spend their time giving advise and supplying those hard to get parts at reasonable cost from Wisbech, Cambridge UK. Yes he is still at it. This book (I borrowed a copy) is a very comprehensive reference guide. It is not a workshop manual, it is a history book and a technical book in one. Chapters on various cycle parts, electrics, engine, carburation etc. Hints and tips abound ( did you know that there are 3 different types of Lucas Rita I did not - I bought the wrong one ). There is a half page devoted to petrol taps (petrol cocks) for example. This is a very comprehensive guide for anyone with a bevel twin it has an abundance of photographs (B/W) and much technical data. Excellent bedtime reading from a leading authority on things Ducati, Buy it,read it, and then keep it by your bedside .

Thorough and detailed

This is the book to have when you either need to check on the authenticity of a Ducati "bevel drive" twin cylinder motorbike or wish to restore one. (If the latter, and you wish to do it properly, bring mucho lire.) For such low production numbers, it's surprising how many variations of gadgets Ducati used to build these beasts. If you wish to make certain that your bike has all the proper bits for its serial number, you'll need this book. Incidentally, though Mick Walker writes (lots of) good books about motorcycles in general and Ducatis in particular, this book by Mr. Falloon is both more thorough and detailed than Mick's books on the same subject. I would compare this book in quality and utility to the excellent "Original..." books intended to carefully document collectable automobiles -- except that the photos aren't as lush.
