Almost Worthless

This book is pretty much worthless as a "guide" to anything. The front cover says: "Your Guide to Jumping, ...(etc.)." Yeah right - jumping is first in the list and there is a grand total of senventeen sentences on jumping, all of which could be deduced from watching one ski jumper jump once. Some of the pictures are okay, but if you want to learn anything about skiing, forget this "guide." National Geographic and Pamela Pollack should be ashamed of producing such a worthless and deceiving book on "Extreme Sports." The only thing extreme about this book is how bad it is.

A disappointing book

I have seldom read two volumes appearing so promising on such a beautiful subject that would lead me to such disappointment. The second volume in particular is, to me, a step above a disaster. Some words do not even figure in the dictionary ("scientificite" "cryptoteleonomie"). If you do not know ancient Greek you are lost. So the book addresses only those who can understand this terminology, and even though, after a while, it becomes extremely cumbersome. Latin sentences are not translated, unless they are part of quotations from different authors than S. Murr, and those authors have been respectful enough to translate their Latin citations. The whole volume II could have been written in one or, at a maximum, two chapters linked into the first volume very easily. It is all what French people call "verbiage", and if you want to see samples of pedantism and "jactance", you really are in the ball with this volume II at each and every page. I was thinking that this poor Father Coeurdoux must have been tossing around in his grave, feeling so dissected by those endless and useless classifications and levels I and II and III for this and that ad nauseam, in a terminology sometimes close to absurdity like: "the absent presence of".... and "the being of the beings" (L'être des étants), and... let's mention "homogénéité linéaire isomorphe" or " axiomes théologico-rationnels" just to name a few and spare other readers from being victimized. A magnificent subject completely butchered by a lack of simplicity, and, yes, a lack of respect for the reader. And we will never know how the Père Dubois got the manuscript which he sold to the English, although it seemed from the beginning of the volume II that we were on an intelligent detective work. Terribly disappointing.

Wow, I picked this up for my son, hoping to find a good, up-to-date and well written book on this subject, and was I ever disappointed. As a single parent with a small income, I am really careful about the goods I buy, and I just don't feel that the price of this book merits what it contains.

If there would be -5 on scale of reviews - that will be proper rating for this.
I didnt expected much to start from, but what this book is - ad bouqlet with bunch of ad photos, plus some huge print general sentences. Can find better things on the web for free.
Dont waste your money.

Apparently if one is "informed" enough by "Whiteness Studies" it is revealed that Rush Limbaugh, skateboarders, Lance Armstrong, Limp Bizket, Larry The Cable Guy, Andre Agassi, Green Day, white paralyzed rugby players and an endless list of other undeserving privileged white males (i.e. all of them) are engaged in a "conservative" and "reactionary" social and cultural counter revolution to "reproduce and extend the power and privileges of whites and men not only in sport, but in American culture and society."
I was left wondering just what a white guy could possibly do that would not be seen as problematic by Kyle Kusz. "Old moneyed white males", "white trash", "alternative rockers" like Kurt Cobain, Gen X slackers, NASCAR fans, and it would seem any white male mentioned positively in the media are part of or at best pawns in a grand racist conspiracy and the fact a man has white skin makes him undeserving of anything but derision and suspicion.
What is a silly white boy to do? Toss the skate and snowboards, eschew any white sports figures and plant themselves in front of the TV and just watch sports while admitting any activity they pursue is poison to the rest of the planet?

...how did normal conservatives barley against the enomourous anti-white anti-western tyranny that has politcal control through all government factions and policies in Europe become "right wing fascist evil extremists". In my opinion this is a case of Altrustic punishment, Europe and the western world is on its last stand unable to defend herself whatsoever from the invasion that is taking place. Why is the white European race in a straitjacket unable to defend ourselves without a barrel of propaganda vocabularies. We can't even have open ethnic overtones on important policies like immgration want to know why this is read " the culture of critique". In the end hilarious moralizisms and name calling isn't going to stop the organic predetermined nature of human groups and civlizations-the next century in all of Western civilzation will be a VERY interesting one indeed.

This is a 64 page e-book that contains a very average summary of some basic elements of reading.
The text has been published with double spacing such that it will waste your paper when you print it.
I thought I would buy an e-book as I could instantly access it.
It is three times the cost of other material on this subject and not worth $US19.95! -
