This is perhaps Mr. Wells' best Star Wars book yet. It's cleverly modeled after a the type of field guide used by bird watchers. It's very small (five inches tall, four inches wide, and a little over one inch thick), and contains a great SAMPLE of full-color images on high-quality semi-gloss paper. For example, there is at least one sample images -- and usually even more -- of each card type from the original Star Wars action figure line (Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Power of the Force, Droids, and Ewoks). There are also sample images of most of the new carded figures from the 1990s all the way up to 2004. And that's not all... There are sample images for dozens of other items, too! Vintage examples include loose figures, 12" figures, Topps trading cards, comic books, vehicles, playsets, lunchboxes, glasses, etc.. Newer items include Lego, Hallmark ornaments, and newer trading cards, comic books, etc..

That said, this book is NOT, nor was it designed to be, even close to 100% comprehensive with regard to images (it just gives you a sample image or two of each type of item so you will be able to identify something when you come across it). But, it DOES include fairly comprehensive lists of most items in most genres (both vintage and new), and a pretty reasonable price guide for each item it lists (I'm not a big fan of price guides, but the prices in this book are at least as good as any other I've seen).

It is not the best or most comprehensive Star Wars collectable book out there (if that's what you want, I recommend John Kellerman's Star Wars Vintage Action Figures: A Guide for Collectors). But, that book costs a lot more and you can't and wouldn't want to carry it around with you. This Star Wars Field Guide contains tons of photos and valuable information in a small, high-quality package.

Handy little pricing guide!

This book is not as complete as "Tomart's Price Guide to Worldwide Star Wars Collectibles", but it is far more useful as a pure pricing guide than Beckett's "Official Price Guide to Star Wars Memorabilia". It's small (about 4" x 5") but contains over 500 pages, including 250 color photos.

The items are arranged clearly and logically into 20 categories, with brief but useful introductory paragraphs alerting you to important background about each category. A very handy pocket reference tool to carry with you when attending a trading convention, flea market, or anywhere else you're looking to buy or sell Star Wars memorabilia.

This is and excellent book. I was looking for a good book of workflows to use in my work and class like university professor. Out there there are many "empty" books. This one is rare one excellent book deep and simple and the same time. I strongly recommend it.

This is an excellent book containing principals, patterns and practices of workflow systems. The theory of workflow is covered with terms of Petri nets, the relevant concepts are clearly explained, and a lot of practical examples with thought provoking questions are included. I enjoyed reading/studying it. Workflow practitioners will find this book very useful both for practical and theoretical aspects. Finally a book that connects the practice of workflow with simple but complete theory!

Workflow design with a twist

Review Date: 2002-10-28
This book has significantly changed my thinking about and approach to workflow management. Prior to reading it I based workflow systems on process chains based on frameworks such as entry-task-validation-exit (ETVX) or plan-do-check-act (PDCA). While process chains are a valid approach, the only level of formality I imposed was cost and value analysis, which I realized after reading this book was not the entire picture of a workflow.

What I learned is how to view workflow as a logical network using Perti Nets, which are both graphical and based on a formal language using Boolean logic (AND and OR joins and splits), programmatic views (iteration) and analytical logic (causality). More importantly, this approach has resolved a misalignment between the design of workflow systems with which I previously used procedures and events and the development approach used by my company's software engineers who were using object-oriented methods. Petri Nets are based on states instead of events, which more naturally aligns object-oriented development of workflow systems to the underlying design. Discovering this is what so significantly changed my thinking and approach to workflow.

Although this book is heavily slanted towards Perti Nets, it also contains a wealth of material about workflow from business process and operations perspectives, and does not obviate process chain approaches. Instead, it provides you with a good grounding in the basics of workflow in general, and provides you with tools, techniques and an approach to developing workflows in a formal manner. If you are involved in process design, workflow development or business process engineering/reengineering this book is an invaluable, thought-provoking resource.

This book was purchased for use with a newly formed women's group at our church. I facilitate the group. It was awesome how in the twelve chapters at least one women felt a direct connection between her life experiences and the lives of the women written about. Everyone enjoyed it and spoke out side of the group about it.

I was lucky to have found this and it has made my church group a great success from the get go!

The first person narrative is truly wonderful. Thank you, Marci.

Equal parts informational, inspirational and encouraging is this new book by Marci Alborghetti. 12 Strong Women of God offers twelve first person narratives of biblical models, some better known than others. Alborghetti has the ability to infuse these women with life, turning each into an example of strength and courage.

Each chapter concludes with an "active meditation" passage, as well as a series of reflection/discussion questions. The book would make a fascinating resources for group study, prompting excellent discussions. Timely and thought provoking topics such as war and its causes and consequences, prayer life, family relations and more are covered. The book would also be excellent for any individual looking to deepen his or her own Biblical knowledge and personal prayer life. Thank you to Marci Alborghetti for this resource - educational and encouraging!

A detailed survey

Jon Stanaway's 475TH FIGHTER GROUP joins others in the 'Aviation Elite Units' series to focus on a superior fighting force, the pet project of an air force chief which made headlines from its entry into combat in August 1943 until the war's end. Vintage black and white photos compliment color plane specs and history in a detailed survey of special interest to military aviation collections.

'Satan's Angels' in Action!

Review Date: 2007-04-05
One of only two USAAF fighter groups formed in-theater, the all Lightning-equipped 475th FG set a blistering scoring pace following activation in May 1943, eventually outscoring all other 5th AF fighter groups except for its arch-rival, the 49th FG. Credited with 552 victories, its ranks included two of the top aces in the Pacific including the legendary Tom McGuire. The combat history of this illustrious group is nicely covered in this Osprey volume by noted aviation historian John Stanaway.

The 475th was 5th AF CO George Kenney's pet project, who raided existing 5th AF fighter groups and 7th AF units in Hawaii for manpower. Initial missions, flown against Wewak and Rabaul, got the 'Satan's Angels' off to a flying start but the group really hit its stride when Charles MacDonald became CO in November 1943. Paced by aggressive pilots like Harry Brown, Frank Nichols, Danny Roberts, John Loisel, Verl Jett and Tom McGuire, the 475th became the fastest scoring fighter group in the Pacific.

Author Stanaway does a good job of covering the ferocious air battles and outstanding personalities that made up this top-scoring group. Stanaway's text is nicely complimented by 10 pages of color profiles by Chris Davey and over 120 black and white photographs.

All in all, a fine addition to Osprey's Aviation Elite Units series!

For the definitive history of the 475th, see Stanaway's "Possum, Clover and Hades" published in 1993.

Scratchbuilding is a lost art these days, but this book does a good job of explaining how it's done. The book assumes the reader knows little, and it tells enough that a first-timer can build a successful and satisfying project. Of course the photos in the book can spur a seasoned scratchbuilder to try to do better also. The book primarily deals with inexpensive materials and simple tools, making it ideal for the beginning or intermediate modeler. One of the projects involves making a caboose out of paperboard and wood. You'd never know from the pictures it was made of paper.

There are materials and tools available today that weren't available (or just not practical) when this book was written, but the information in this book is timeless. You can easily apply the same techniques to 2005 technology. And you'll still be able to do the same in 25 years.

Book is simply amazing!

Harley riders develope a passion for the bikes. Maybe it has something to do with a safe vent for midlife crisis. If you are looking for a Harley novel read "The Second Coming Of Age" by: C. Vedrine

Much more than the title suggests...

While the title suggests a listing of parts you can buy for your Harley, the book actually covers "What you can do to your Harley". The sub-title says it better: "A Guide to Personalizing Your Bike". The book is loaded with fabulous photos (and diagrams, where needed, like where they tell you about the real meaning of dyno numbers). I read every single page with great care and attention, and I know I will do so again.

The table of contents clues you in right away about what awaits you inside: Paint, Seats, Handlebars and Foot Controls, Powertrain, Suspension, Wheels and brakes. The subtitles in each section go much further. Installing inspection covers, re-jetting the carb, how to lower your bike (and why you may not want to), practical advice on changing handlebars, choosing an exhaust system, and setting up your suspension are just a taste of what you'll be getting into in here.

If you're wondering what are the possibilities for modifying your Harley-Davidson, here's the place to start.

This is one of those theses that comes along every few generations and redefines how man looks at himself. I read this thesis dozens of times and every time I discovered something new about myself and the fate of man.

The pictures are phenomenal, too.

If you think you knew everything about muscle modeling, think again. The author deals with the subject in a unique way that forces a paradigm shift in the way that we think about, feel about, and look at muscles. In many ways this is the completion of Leonardo Da Vinci's long forgotten dream, to accurately model not just the bones of man, not just the blood vessels, but the very muscular structure on which all motion and strength depends.

The illustrations are tops, by the way.

Very good!! finally a book on the state-of-the-art in numerical techniques for passive waveguide components. A lot of original and very efficent numerical techniques are described in detail to compute the modal admittance matrix of both common and arbitrarely shaped waveguide junctions. I found simply fantastic the BI-RME method and the integral equation technique, but I'm not so crazy to try to implement them!! However I think It's very important and instructive to know about these advanced techniques.

To be coherent all over the text, the authors deliberately make an intensive use of the concept of multimodal admittance matrix (GAM), although in some cases working directly with the generalized scattering matrix (GSM) is more simple and efficient.

Even though examples of the developed software are available within the book, only sometimes the authors give enough information about the implementation, so the book may be very difficult for the beginner. Hence I think that a good experience in numerical techniques for electromagnetism is strongly required to really appreciate this work.

I read this years ago as a child and I can honestly say everything I know about germs and internal organs comes from this book. I never liked science or biology but Micki's adventures were fun and even now, years later, I can remember most of the details. The illustrations are beautifully done and the storyline takes Micki from the edge of a glass of milk to the lungs, ears, nose, throat, teeth, pencil eraser, towel and plenty of other spots. He meets interesting microbes, some good like himself and others bad. I'm searching for it again for my friend's children.
