Dr. Fosha has given us the gift of an important book, which combines easy access (fine writing), leading edge concepts in relational psychology and Intensive Psychotherapy, and the most helpful texts of clinical psychotherapy examples I have ever encountered. In fact, her running commentary (pithy and informal) on video transcripts from her own treatment is the perfect voice to accompany her chapter-long (and very helpful) illustrations of how the theoretical material on attachment and emotion-affect apply in real-life psychotherapy consultions and treatment. There are also some marvelous literary quotations sprinkled around, and solid recognition of the pathfinders ahead of her, from Darwin to Davenloo.

In this most important work Dr Fosha describes in clear prose and with engaging case material an emerging trend in the practice of effective short term psychotherapy. Her understanding and honoring of the internal landscape of the patients subjective experience and affect regulation will be an inspiration to new clinicians and a source of wisdom to seasoned veterans. Theory is presented in a clear accessible manner free of fluff and is enhanced by her lyrical narrative style.

Excellent book on a subject. If you are interested how trauma influence health, this is a must read.
You will find a trauma pyramide, explanations that trauma is, description of most common traumas, including perfectinostic parents, setting unrealistic expectations, physical, sexual abuse. This is a good read for someone who is interested in Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
Trauma and abuse history is thoroughly explained and supported by research. Colin Ross describe his theory why SSRI are effective in treating various disorder and how trauma gradually develops in a human being by age 10, if this person grow up in abusive environment. He give some ideas about the way cognitive therapy is done to his patients and the way patients respond to it.
The book is full of memories how his psychiatry training was done, which is a fun read. I've found Dr. Ross remind me Eric Bern the way he describe things and his sense of humour is fascinating. It is very compassionate book.

VERY Technical, but extremely interesting!

Although it is obvious that this book was written more for other physicians and workers in the mental health profession (the vocabulary is quite advanced to say the least), I found each new chapter held something in it to help me learn more about the effects of trauma and the different outcomes of a traumatic childhood. I, having Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder) was relieved to read that I was not different in the fact that I had been diagnosed with almost everything and have been in and out of hospitals. I've also worked with the author's staff as well as his assistant and, although I'm not quite sure of my thoughts on his view of memories, I totally agree that memories are not the point. The point is that we wouldn't have problems if life had been bliss. I highly recommend this THICK book to anyone who, if they don't have a complex vocabulary, is willing to look up words as they go. The significance of trauma

In this landmark work, Dr. Ross challenges the field of psychiatry to make a giant leap forward in the treatment of mental illness. After 21 years of carefully listening to patients and weighing scientific evidence, he has hit on what should now be obvious: trauma causes and/or contributes to most psychiatric disorders. This is especially true for comorbid (many diagnosies) patients. Just as a single disease can produce multiple physical symptoms, unresolved trauma can generate multiple diagnosies. He describes why the single gene-single disease and biomedical reductionist models don't work for psychiatry. He also points out many flaws in logic in the DSM IV diagnosies, making specific revision suggestions. His hypothesies will pique the curiosity of many reseachers and lead to many dissertations. He concludes if trauma therapy is added to medication for many patients, outcomes will be much improved. This is a must read for the serious mental health professional.

Guilty pleasure A-Go-Go

Review Date: 2006-07-06
This is a nicely crafted piece of fluff that almost manages to hide its underlying cleverness. Rosemary Martin has fashioned her charmer of a heroine, Bebe Bennet, to fit neatly between Goldie Hawn in "The Cactus Flower" and Maggie McNamara in "The Moon is Blue." For those so young that those references suggest little or nothing--most of Martin's potential readership, I suppose--I mean that while Bebe is outwardly young, sweet, naive and charming, inwardly she is constructed of titanium and stainless steel, even though she herself is not yet aware that is the case.

I find myself to be an almost exact contemporary of Bebe's. Her world in this series of books is a pretty accurate depiction of the world of the 60s--not so much as it actually was but as many of us thought it was. I began seriously to work for a living at about that time. I shared office space with a number of near-Bebes and at least one absolute dead-ringer for her. Bebe's concerns with glamor, fashion and music are accurately depicted for at least that small segment of the population with which Bebe would have identified herself--as is the singular inability to see, even to the point of willful blindness, the grimly onrushing crises of Vietnam and civil rights.

Ms. Martin's prose is solid, if not especially memorable. Her sit-com characters are no more than lay figures, but they are used with writerly skill. Plot and pace are sufficient to keep the pages turning on a regular beat.

I think Ms. Martin's goal is simply to entertain. I think she achieves that goal--and perhaps rather more.

A ditsy, slightly guilty pleasure well worthy of five stars.

After leaving her hometown of Richmond, Virginia for the excitement of New York City secretary Bebe Bennett follows her boss, the handsome and sexy Bradley Williams when he becomes head of the Ryan Modeling Agency. She loves him even though he calls her "kid" because he is a decade older than her twenty-two. She does a lot to light his fire including have her stewardess roommate buy her mod clothes, mini-skirts and go-go boots (after all the year is 1964.)

However, Bebe gets no satisfaction because Bradley is emotionally involved with the company's lead model, Suzie Wexford, a woman who knows she is beautiful and sexy, and uses her attributes to climb to the top of her profession. One night Bradley leaves Suzie's apartment to buy chocolate syrup, but when he comes back, he finds she is murdered, strangled with a scarf he gave her. The police, called by Suzie's neighbor, arrest him. Bebe intends to prove his innocence as she is sure that the killer is one of the many people who confided in her that they hated Suzie.

Using the vernacular of the youth of the swinging sixties, the music that was popular then, and the other aspects of the subculture of the teenage baby boomers, Rosemary Martin makes the era go-go in cool mod Technicolor. The heroine is an adorable character, a combination of steel and sock it to me vulnerability; readers hope that her boss sees her inner beauty and falls for her. There are plenty of suspects with viable motives and guessing who the killer is becomes part of the fun of this wonderful historical (my God my teen years are historical!) amateur sleuth mystery.

Little tid bits of history and flashback lace this very cute mystery to the end. This newest book is better than the first even and will not disappoint the reader who buys it. I loved BeBe and her zany Roomie Darlene's antics. Of course BeBe only has eyes for her boss and he is trying his darndest not to fall head over heels for her. This ending took me totally by surprise. A cool whodonit to the end.

This is a wonderful guide for anyone who is into collecting Corgi toys. I especially enjoyed the value guide in the back even though this book was published 10 years ago.My only disappointment was that the author didn't put more information about the "Character" cars which I am so fond of collecting.

This book is the first of its kind to address this particular economic model in detail. It is thoroughly fascinating. The points outlined are exciting and fresh. They leave one curious as to what it might actually be like if such a model were implemented. Many will find this motivating and will help in researching such a model. Bowen brings this model to light with faith that it will work and bring a better world. Now with the world in more turmoil than ever, this will indeed be a light to everyone participating. Everyone! It appears that 'better way' Communism has failed and 'beloved' Capitalism has wronged us. What now? A United Order. It's possible for everyone to truly live equally and to live with an abundance of all that is needed, even Peace, Prosperity, and True Joy through Free Choice. Many thoughts have been compiled within about the different angles of a society with this model. It's evident by the author that many activities will take place and many more people will have to make this their focus in order for this model to be the standard. This book is a fantastic start. The author does a good job of helping the reader see what it might be like to live in a society with such a model of economy. He breaks down the positive and the negative points of previous and current models-including his United Order-to help illustrate what we desperately need and then explains how to achieve it. This is a great book and a perfect economic alternative to what the world has hitherto seen. Please pray for the naysayers. Thank you.

I was one of the first people to have had the opportunity to read the entire book. It was fantastic! Ingenious! It was very well written, easy to understand, and very well organized. The contents of the entire book were very analytical yet uplifting, positive, and gave me a feeling of hope for a better future.

The book provides a superstructure or foundation for an entire global system (a New World Order) that could be used to help bring justice, equity, unity, and peace to the world someday. The United Order model presented seemed viable, and it was very interesting. It obviously needs to be tested someday before one can conclude of its plausibility.

I especially enjoyed the literature review in Chapter 2 and the Bill of Rights located in the appendix. Preserving democratic processes using administrative law was new to me. I suppose administrative law could be a way to prevent elitism. I thought the analysis of the possibilities of implementing a money-less type economic system was very thought provoking.

Although the price is a little steep, I recommend this book to everyone. You can learn a lot from it.

I concur with all the positive feedback on this title. There's a lot of information here, especially specifics about which divisions did what, where, when and how. I am doing research on a relative who faught with the 17th Airborne, (a division that has not been as exhaustively written about as the 82nd, or even the 101st), and this book has supplied a lot of answers I couldn't find anywhere else.

US AIRBORNE DIVISIONS IN THE ETO 1944-45 joins others in the 'Battle Orders' series, discussing the mechanics and operations involved in delivering entire divisions to battlefields behind enemy lines via parachute and glider. Chapters survey the organization and operational history of these units throughout the war from 1944-45, charting their missions, details of their deployment and equipment, and military strategies alike.

I was pleasntly surprised with this book. It has everything that you wanted to know about an Airborne Division in the ETO and didn't know how to ask. The coverage regarding the organization is exhaustive and complete. The photos are great and appropriate, the diagrams superb and informative. The organization and equipment from WWII carried over to the postwar years and is even reflected today in how a modern Airborne Division functions. There is much information here that I have not seen elsewhere (e.g. the diagram and text regarding the use of the V of V formation for mass drops). This book is probably the most informative (along with its Sister books on the Mediterrean and Pacific Theaters)available for its size on the market. What a great buy! If I were restricted to one book on the U.S. Airborne (& I have a very extensive collection put together over 45 years), it would be this one. Great job Steve Zaloga, and another great work for Osprey Publishers!!

Not only is it a very nice and straightforward catalog, but every product also gets its own colour picture so the result is quite inspiring for modellers - even if in the end you don't use the Verlinden products but build your own. Concerning the comment that no price list is included, there is a pdf-document with recommended retail prices on their site, which is updated every now and then. And shops as well as online stores regularly offer discounts, so the list is quite relative. But the book is simply beautiful and beats all other model catalogs.

For the price of a movie plus popcorn, you get hours of fun.

Miniature car racing is a thing of the past except for some beautiful old race cars and a few nostalgic followers. My grandfather was an avid racer and is mentioned in this book, which is how I came across it. My family has one copy which we pass around to remind us of "the old times". This is a wonderful book with all of the great names and the GREAT cars. It's good to see that all of the fun and work that went along with this sport is wonderfully captured to be remebered forever.

From a scale modeler's viewpoint, the book is a goldmine of information and inspiration. The photos are large, in color, and extremely vivid and clear, with new details popping out at you each time you look at them. Especially useful are the many views of the complex turret bustle rack with the "ball and chain" armor, and the often neglected turret top. The only area not covered at all is the bottom of the hull. The text is well-written and supports the photos very well.

Most of the 24 pages are dedicated to the Mk2 and Mk2B versions, with only a few covering the Mk3.

Overall, a wonderful publication which I would recommend highly to modelers and armor enthusiasts alike.

This is an excellent book containing principals, patterns and practices of workflow systems. The theory of workflow is covered with terms of Petri nets, the relevant concepts are clearly explained, and a lot of practical examples with thought provoking questions are included. I enjoyed reading/studying it. Workflow practitioners will find this book very useful both for practical and theoretical aspects. Finally a book that connects the practice of workflow with simple but complete theory!

Workflow design with a twist
Helpful Votes: 94 out of 96 total.
Review Date: 2002-10-28
This book has significantly changed my thinking about and approach to workflow management. Prior to reading it I based workflow systems on process chains based on frameworks such as entry-task-validation-exit (ETVX) or plan-do-check-act (PDCA). While process chains are a valid approach, the only level of formality I imposed was cost and value analysis, which I realized after reading this book was not the entire picture of a workflow.

What I learned is how to view workflow as a logical network using Perti Nets, which are both graphical and based on a formal language using Boolean logic (AND and OR joins and splits), programmatic views (iteration) and analytical logic (causality). More importantly, this approach has resolved a misalignment between the design of workflow systems with which I previously used procedures and events and the development approach used by my company's software engineers who were using object-oriented methods. Petri Nets are based on states instead of events, which more naturally aligns object-oriented development of workflow systems to the underlying design. Discovering this is what so significantly changed my thinking and approach to workflow.

Although this book is heavily slanted towards Perti Nets, it also contains a wealth of material about workflow from business process and operations perspectives, and does not obviate process chain approaches. Instead, it provides you with a good grounding in the basics of workflow in general, and provides you with tools, techniques and an approach to developing workflows in a formal manner. If you are involved in process design, workflow development or business process engineering/reengineering this book is an invaluable, thought-provoking resource.
