The DISC system of identifying personality traits is the best I've ever read. This book not only explains the the traits of a person's personality traits but how they interact and react to others. I quickly discovered why my High C personality conflicts so with my High D employer and how to possibly approach each other to maintain peace. Even my teenage daughters had fun identifying their personalities and how they related to biblical characters.
This is great material for a small bible group or accountability group!
P.S. My boss still doesn't have his book back. I think I'll buy him another - complete with highlights on the High C personality!
DISC in a Christian contextReview Date: 2005-06-14
In chapter one, they discuss how people are different: perceptual differences, motivational differences, and needs vs. values. They argue that personalities are by God's design and that no personality style is wrong or bad .. that every personality should be balanced, not letting strengths be emphasized to the point of weakness.
Next, they introduce the DISC personality system and explain its vocabulary. They review how expectations and environment can have an impact on how people express their personalities, and they give examples of the DISC personality styles in daily living.
In each of the two chapters about a particular personality style, they hit on 11 points:
1. Primary drive of the style
2. Personal giftedness of the style
3. Potential spiritual gifts of the style
4. Instinctive fear of the style
5. Strength out of control
6. Stress response
7. Blind spots
8. Areas to work on
9. Best complementary team members
10. Related Biblical model
11. Bible study references on strengths and weaknesses
The authors illustrate the D style with the life of Paul; the S style with the life of Abraham; the C style with the life of Moses; and the I style with the life of Peter. Finally, they argue that Jesus demonstrated a perfect balance of all four personality styles as was appropriate for the situation.
The only thing lacking in this book is a DISC-style personality test so that readers can determine their style.

Your Cabin in the Woods by Conrad MeineckeReview Date: 2002-10-18
Really a spiritual guideReview Date: 2002-08-07
Amazing, simple, philosophical bookReview Date: 1997-11-27
Any day now....Review Date: 2006-04-25
In very general terms, Conrad Meinecke can show you how to build your own cabin in the woods, but maybe the most important thing about the book is its buoyant optimism and can-do spirit. A saw, a hammer, a few nails and some canvas and you'll be well on your way independent living in a natural setting.
The book's frequent illustrations are filled with smiling guys with pipes in long-sleeved plaid shirts and ties. The shirtsleeves are rolled and the guy is building a fire in his newly constructed fireplace while an Irish Setter romps in the background and the wife and kids prepare food. This book has it all!
The breezy effortlessness and style with which Meinecke accomplishes all of this in words and pictures makes H.D. Thoreau look like a preachy, solitary drudge.
If you sometimes think of chucking it all and moving back to nature, this is the book for you. I've had this book for years and I keep it handy at all times. Heck, who knows? I might even build a cabin some day.

12 Steps to a Worry Free Retirement by Daniel KehrerReview Date: 2003-11-17
income. He advises us to study the top plans in industry and
then to try customizing the successful elements of the top
plans into our own investment program. He indicates that
fast growth in overseas markets could benefit our own portfolio.
The author cautions that an early retirement could deprive us
of the maximum social security allotment. He praises the Keogh
plans for providing fully taxable contributions now. The overall
thrust of this book is excellent. I would supplement it with
investments in real estate to maximize cash flow in the
retirement years. If you don't own a house now, buy one.
If you already own a house, make the sacrifice to buy another.
The added cash flow from a second home will more than supplement
your future social security check. There are many programs
out there which deal with real estate accumulation. The
Carleton Sheets Program "Nothing Down" is an excellent source
for purchasing real estate. Dave Del Dotto is another good
source. Matthew Lesko has books out there which show you how
to maximize government grants to accumulate wealth.
This work is a solid value for the price charged. As mentioned
above, I would supplement this work with real estate investments.
The United States Government, the States and local municipalities
are doing more to get people to purchase their own homes than
at any other time in our history. Interest rates are at an historic low level. Good luck and utilize all of these tools
to maximize your own personal portfolio of investments.

Practical and EncouragingReview Date: 2002-04-17
Although I've read several articles and books on fitness, this book gave me enough new, practical information and "sisterly" encouragement to motivate me to resume my walking program.
AND this is the first source that explained the importance of strength training and flexibility exercises in a way that has motivated me to start doing both. The recommended routines are easy to do and require few "props."
Most important, I think, is the authors' caution not to expect to see weight loss right away and to focus on the many other physical and psychological benefits of fitness.
It's occuring to me as I write this that I should give this book as a gift to my two daughters-in-law and to at least two friends...
Finally a fitness book that is realistic!Review Date: 2001-06-26
The book also speaks to readers in a way that is motivating not condescending or scolding. The authors well understand that sometimes we slip on our exercise regimes, and they don't give us slack about it. Rather they provide steps for how to get back on track on our own schedule.
All in all this is one of the best books I've read on fitness.
