I got this book for my friend as a Christmas present and I ended up reading the whole thing before I gave it to her. This book is hilarious how we all seem to function with the same hates on many tiny things.

It's just what you expect to get when you order the product, hilarious. The pages are filled with almost any awkward situation you have ever been in and then some. It's great to pick up and browse through for a few minutes when you want a good laugh.

I was overwhelmed and under pressure the day before Christmas Eve at Barnes & Noble. This seemed funny, but I started to put it back because it was just another one of the many useless gift-y books... but every time I flipped to a random page, I laughed hysterically.

It's just extremely witty and well-written. I've since decided to order more as gifts for friends of mine. These are the things we think but do not say, or sometimes don't even admit to ourselves because they're so obsessive or silly.

Worthwhile, humorous, and entertaining.

This is the only book I've ever read that basically gave me one long continuous laughing attack.

Flashbang is a humorous look at life and Christianity. It is entertaining, but it also has substance.

The book consists of various situations in the author's life, a humorous look at them, and a spiritual application. It is pretty subtle at times, but the point is made. The writing style is a bit disjointed and is a bit of an acquired taste.

The common theme addressed is that Christians aren't and don't need to be perfect. They just need to trust the Lord more to do His work. It is good, but certainly not great.

This book came highly recommended to me and it has exceeded my skeptical expectations. I love how Steele takes the lion share of the beginning of each chapter to recount hilarious personal stories and then takes the last few pages of each chapter to make challenging applications that I did NOT see coming. I have been so entertained and challenged- an unusual combination- by this book. The result is that I am now more challenged to live a life that will leave a lasting effect and NOT just a life that makes me FEEL like I am doing things that matter. Read it, you will love it!

I didn't know that this book was a "spiritual" type book. I usually don't read them....honestly, I didn't get the spirtual message....it's that subtle. The writer is awesome. Had me crying and doubled over in laughter with some of his stories. Will probably read this again....it's a quick read!

An awesome read... a must for anyone who wants to challenge their faith and grow. Taking the pain and living it, finding God in it. In getting over oneself. Unfortunately, it happens with hindsight... and I'm not there yet...

If C.S. Lewis had been a standup comedian, I think he would have written a book like this.

I've heard some people accuse this work as being too simple, but I disagree. It's easy to read, yes, because it's ridiculously funny. I've never laughed out loud so much during a book. But that is no indication of it's depth and rest assured, it gets deep.

Steele writes in a way that reminds me of a good sermon. His anecdotes and musings keep you entertained and interested, but then he brings it all together to show you the point he's making...and it's a wakeup call. One minute you're doubled over in laughter and the next minute you're in deep conviction.

Perhaps the most endearing quality the author possesses is his ability to be real. Steele shares his thoughts with no hint of finger-pointing, high-and-mighty theology. He simply bares his soul and tells his story, and he tells it in such a way that makes it easy for the reader to relate.

If you're looking for literary fluff, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a refreshingly humorous book with true Christian roots, get Flashbang.

I found "Your Disgusting Head" on the clearance rack and just had to have the rest of the series. These books make for great conversation and are actually interesting coffee table books. Giraffes Giraffes tickles funny bones you never knew you had.

This is art and one rarely comes across art that is this beautiful and this close to being relevant. It's hard to deny the randomness in the order with which thoughts, figures, questions and answers appear in this book but that's what makes it so much more enjoyable. The story seems to be powered by a secret source of energy that exists at the boundary between "real" and "imaginary." The authors frequently cross this boundary on either direction without missing a beat, reminding us how great it is to think freely. What's really great is that this story has no beginning and no end so you can really go back and read it over and over again. Just make sure you don't read it 12 times...

I bought this book yesterday and haven't stopped laughing. I work at a zoo and we just got Giraffes so I thought it might be educational. Boy was I right! It's the funniest book I've read in a long time. I highly reccommend it if you are wanting a good laugh or need to know how to make sandwiches for them.
As for the reviewer who gave this book one star (the only negative review I might add) Are you disappointed that you didn't read what the book was about ahead of time or just unable to laugh at anything? You act like this book was in the reference section! This book is hilarious to humans and giraffes!

Simply one of the most informative books ever written. I would recommend "Your disgusting head" as a good second read.

A story presented in comic book form that follows an ordinary Joe (named Gray)in uniting his company's division to make changes before the division is eliminated. Tremendous wisdom presented in thinking about others viewpoints and dealing with sensitive (ie aggressive) egos in getting things done. Humorous and engaging -it's a great way to introduce those who are entering the work world or the world weary who have forgotten the subtleties it takes to motivate others. Questionaires and questions, specific recommendations about what you can do to help with sales or cost savings.

"I never really wanted to be a PM but the company recognized my efforts in supporting Widgets XYZ and therefore they decided to promote me by becoming a PM!!" I am sure most of u ended up like that. Well I certainly did. I will tell you that this job is not easy and especially if u are not an IT background PM, u r in trouble!

This book believe it or not I used to read in between trips to Italy before I took this new job I am in. Forget PMI (well don't forget but ...) this book will give you're the instant PM Adernialin u need and it will also manage your expectations of how things should happen. It ahs a people side in this book which most other techs books fail to see. It was allot of fun to read. I have been 12 months on the job now and I think I like it now!

This is the first business book I've read that teach you great lessons about how to succeed in business and in your career in a humoristic manner.

It references stuff like the 8 commandments for selling people on your ideas, and the 7 Deadly Workplace Sins and how to overcome them.

This is definitely a must read book.

I approached this book with an attitude of "I know this content already," "I could have written this book". . . . But a few pages into the book, I realized I was learning.

The content is surprisingly complete. When skimming the Table of Contents, the topics did not seem comprehensive. But after reading this book, the important things were covered; including sensitive areas that are usually not discussed.

I appreciate that much of the content is in comic strip format. I know, I know, this doesn't sound good. But I have so many books that I've started and stopped because I don't have time to read it all. So it's very gratifying to get through the content of the book in one evening.

In summary, I learned some important stuff from this book and know that I can return to this book for reminders and details. Five stars!

Gray matters is disappointing in many respects. First, the cartooning is crude and not up to standards set by syndicated strips. Second, there's not a single laugh in the whole book -- this is no Dilbert. Third, the advice is common sense to the point of being patronizing -- it features such brilliant insights as "listen to people." Wow, who'd ever think of doing that? Finally, several character actions are highly unethical and could get you in hot water if you did the same, such as breaking into a co-worker's computer, or moonlighting without your boss's knowledge at a customer company strictly to get inside information. You want to talk lawsuit? Read "The Dilbert Principle" instead -- its insights are hilarious and telling.

When I contacted the author at his email address listed in the earlier review, he answered and said the book was guaranteed to work and if it doesn't he buys the disgruntled reader a new Cadillac. How To Marry Money is full of the same wry humor.

This is a book that whets the appetite for more light-hearted takes on American society, status and snobbery.
Pure entertainment, although I'm sure there will be those who take it as gospel.

I send it as a gift to my friends in Europe.

It took a while to get past the first few pages, but I kept reading and the remaining chapters had helpful pointers about life in general,love,work and self image. I called the author's publicist and received his email address kevindoyle42@earthlin.net and have been exchanging dialog since.

An easy, fun read, but the reviewer SOCIAL CLIMBER from Sonoma CA listed the author's email address incorrectly. It's kevindoyle42@earthlink.net. Doyle answered me with a list of other titles when I contacted him. HOW TO MEET BEAUTIFUL WOMEN and DATING YOUNGER WOMEN are also written with tongue firmly in cheek.

It was annoying to find my wife reading a book with a title like this but, after picking it up and reading it, I found it to be a lot of fun.
Now I take the advice of another reviewer (who found as "entertaining as it is instructional") and often give HOW TO MARRY MONEY as a light-hearted gift for clients, graduates & hostesses.

Just thumbing thru the book already has me laughing out loud. The business plan in disarray... the Family Friendly policy... and my personal favorite - the office thermostat! I wish I had Alice's chutzpah." I wouldn't be freezing to death all day!!!

It's amazing how Scott Adams is able to produce hundreds of hilarious Dilbert strips that revolve around just a few themes -bosses are stupid, engineers are geeks, and the whole purpose of management, marketing, and the like are to squash productivity. This book is proof that Adams is a genius because not a single strip fails to produce at least a chuckle. Get this book and laugh your a** off.

Dilbert is the perfect hero for the modern office, which consists mostly of cubicles, or cubes as we frequently refer to them.

What happens in a cubicle? Oh, you know. The boss comes around and indicates that he is the great power behind everything, though he actually knows nothing about the product. If anything goes wrong, downsizing of those best suited to fix the problem follows.

What of marketing? Well, they are selling a product we have yet to build, for a price we are unable to achieve, with features that marketing neglected to tell engineering about. When all else fails, hire a consultant!

But Dilbert also has to face things like synergies. What are synergies? Ah, well, Dilbert can tell you that when you hear a cliché word like synergies, down-sizing is sure to follow in Cubeville, along with additional doses of cluelessness.

Any Dilbert book is perfect for a modern office worker, especially if they are in engineering, as Dilbert is. This collection of cartoons published from 9/1/96 to 1/18/98 are sure to give you more than a few chuckles as you recognize behaviors from an office you once worked in, or, if you are unfortunate, an office your are currently working in. At least you get gain some perspective and humor from your misery!

These books are Christmas gifts for our granddaughter. She loves thenm and I was pleased with the quick delivery of them from the vendor.

I have never seen my child go through a book this fast!!! We got it for him last night at about 6:00pm, and by 9:00am this morning he was like, "Wow, that was a great book!" He couldn't put it down. He read it at dinner last night, before he went to bed, when he woke up he immediately grabbed this book, he read it through breakfast, and he finished it in the car on our way to the store this morning. I am SHOCKED! All this from a kid who refuses to read anything for more than 20 minutes (which is the amount of time his teacher requires all the students to read their assigned books for homework). I'm buying him the Junie B. Dumb Bunny book for Christmas. It is the only other one rated 5 stars on this website.

Junie B. does it again...she makes us laugh during one of the most memorable holidays in a young child's life!! We see a soft side of Junie B. which rarely shows itself, but allows us to get to know her that much more AND teaches us a life lesson! My daughter and I loved reading this together!

Another story in the series by Park! Keeps you laughing - and will take you down memory lane as Junie B. gets ready for Christmas & will remind you of ALL those "fun" lyrics we made up to Christmas songs! She's still irrepressible & even though her language is "becoming more adult" there are still enough "Junie B.-isms" to keep you in stitches. If you're collecting the series, get going to the cash register!

This is a collection of Doonesbury comic strips telling the story of D.B.'s return to the U.S. and recovery from a leg amputation due to injuries sustained in Iraq. The book contains the now famous strip (at least among Doonesbury fans) depicting D.B. without a head covering. D.B.'s struggles and his interactions with friends and family are touching and very funny. I look forward to following the story.

I have been a fan of Doonesbury since high school in the early 1970's, I read it
every day. One of the first books I bought was ``Call Me When You Find America.''
This string of cartoons had an unusual tone -- Trudeau gets a forward from John McCain who used to regard him with ``utter comtempt''-- a serious and dark one behind the humor. It was the first Doonesbury book I could say was moving.

People die and get hurt in war. That's something we all "know".

But for people who actually have to deal with this fact, the rest of us, our ignornace can be a hurdle.

Trudeau presents this issue with in a way that is accessable to all, and with a humor that may seem out of place; but as my Dad used to say, laughter heals more ills than all the pills.

Sometimes, people can express thoughts, opinions and emotions in cartoons that are difficult to express any other way. Gary Trudeau created some very good characters for his "Doonesbury" strip and over the years he carried out some very sharp and effective social and political satire. However, at other times, he took on very serious themes, and the cartoons in this book demonstrate one such instance.
B. D. is on patrol outside Fallujah, Iraq when his Humvee is hit by an enemy RPG. The blast destroys his vehicle and takes off the lower part of his left leg. Fast medical action and medical evacuation saves his life. This book follows him through the process of realizing what has happened, through the physical recovery process and the at times harder process of dealing with other people and getting on with life.
My wife Kathy is a rehabilitation counselor and her internship for the last part of her master's program was at a Veteran's center. She also read the book and she said that the coping process as depicted in the book is exactly right. After I have completed this review she wants the book so that she can add it to her reference collection. She considers it so good that she may use it in the future.

I really loved this book. It was recommended to me by my graduate thesis professor who is a leading edge researcher in prosthetics. I am also the mom of a disabled son AND I've worked with amputees during my graduate school years. This book speaks to the realities, doubts, and fears of being a disabled person, yet it's hopeful, too. Trudeau really captures the feelings and thoughts of both the amputee and family members. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is wrestling with amputation and/or disability issues and who wants a thoughtful (and sometimes lighthearted--there IS light in the darkness!) view on it. This book is realistic and human. Don't miss it.

As an African American who frequents Michael Ian Black's blog I can unequivocally say that "My Custom Van" was the best book I have read since "The Color Purple." Never has one man said so many things in so few words in such a profound way to so many people. From the philosophical essay "Taco Party" to his treatments on Erotic Fiction, Black has solved every problem that is facing Black America (and regular America too) in the new century. He is truly a credit to the African American race. As for giving a voice to the oppressed: sorry Barack Obama, Michael Ian Black has beaten you to it.

Michael Ian Black's foray into the literary world is quite impressive. Thoroughly entertaining, he mixes random scenarios and observations that will appeal to the slightly twisted daydreamer in us all.Another added bonus is each essay is short enough to grab and retain the full attention of everyone from the average ADDer to to the oldest dementia patient(and anyone between).

I have never laughed so loud (while reading a book, no less) than I did while reading My Custom Van. I could not put this book down, and, in fact, read it from cover to cover within hours of buying it. This level of sustained hilarity is hard to maintain, well done Michael Ian Black.

This hilarious book is proof in point as to why Michael Ian Black is very famous. Unlike so many of today's celebrities, he's got both brains and talent. Actually, I'll go out on a limb here and say the guy may be a better writer than comedian. That's how good this book is. Warning: This book is not for dummies. This man went to college. And graduated. So he sometimes uses big words. Can you handle it? I hope so. Because it's high time we rebel against the dumbing of America, raise the bar for comedic writing, and embrace the witty, snarky, satirical voice of Mr. Black. Bravo, Michael.

Michael Ian Black (very famous) is a genius! He makes me laugh, anyway. If you love absurdity and reading and Michael Ian Black, consider this book!

To be honest, I was surprised at how excellent a writer (I spotted zero grammatical errors) he is.

If you're a fan of anything Michael Ian Black has been involved with (The State, Stella, Wet Hot American Summer, etc.), I would find it almost impossible for you not to agree with everything this comedic gem has to offer.

Even still, funny is funny, and this book should appeal to anyone who is capable of laughing (reading).

I love this book. I love Michael Ian Black.

Kathy Patrick's book was a quick read but one which kept me coming back to re-read it. It is an entertaining and inspirational account of how to change directions in life and make the most of it. Kathy invites us into her life, then sits us down and gives us a make-over. It is sprinkled with notable quotes from the famous and not-so-famous, and lots of book recommendations. It is a springboard book, because now I have another stack of books to read! It is also a springboard book because it inspired me to start my own book club and to spread some literacy. Oh, and it contains some good recipes too!

Kathy Patrick is a force of nature. She's generous, funny, and life affirming. She created the Pulpwood Queens, the largest book club in America and she's a definitely the head queen. If you don't know about her you'll want to. Her book is a must read. So what are you waiting for?

Kathy Patrick is one of the great souls of Texas--an inspired writer and personality. This is a great book--a true celebration of life and literature--and I can't think of a better way to spend the day than by reading it!

The book is written as if I was having a private conversation with Kathy and she was my best friend. I became captivated from the beginning to the end and wanted more. She drew me into her life-her hopes, dreams, joys, and sorrows. Kathy Patrick has written a wonderful excerpt of her life and times. This book was a walk down memory lane for me in a lot of the chapters. I really feel like this book underlines where we as women get our strength in good times and in bad. Support of each other, and I read it loud and clear in the pages of Kathy's book. Women share their sisterhood and support with their family and friends and then most of us will reach out to anyone we see in need. Faith, family, friends is what it is all about but said in such a warm and humorous way!
