The Truth About Self Protection Review Date: 2008-01-22
DATED BUT WORTH READING.Review Date: 2007-08-20

Very Comprehensive Overview Review Date: 2007-09-03
As many have said, there is a large amount of dated information in this book. The chapter on telephones is woefully inadequate. Rather quaint to read about somebody recommending touch tone phones because they are the newest advance in technology. The chapters on dogs are very interesting, especially since I am not a "pet person". I'd love to see this section updated to include the proliferation of "pit bulls" in society. It's been a long time since I have seen anyone with a Doberman.
A worthwhile addition to you library. It helps the reader expand their thought process to consider virtually everything in their environment and how it can increase or decrease their level of personal security.

Priceless resource-BUY IT FROM AMAZONReview Date: 2008-09-28
By the way, I originally tried to buy this book used from another seller on Amazon and a month after I ordered they told me they didn't have any more. I had to contact them, they didn't even bother letting me know. The seller even had good feedback, so feedback sometimes doesn't mean squat! However, I ordered this book new from Amazon and it got here reasonably fast for ground shipping and I am very pleased with the service I got from them (actual communication, what a concept!!). I recommend buying from Amazon because you may end up not getting it and wasting a month worth of time if you try someone else. Buy it, you will be armed with knowledge, no pun intended.

Review of "The Truman Show"Review Date: 2006-06-01
Andrew Niccol wants to show the impertinence of the media which do not respect the rights of human beings.
In my opinion the subject of the book is very interesting and it is worth dealing with it. But in this case it is easier to watch the movie because the book is difficult to read because of all the stage directions.
Fake Reality ShowReview Date: 2006-06-01
The author wants to warn people of the danger of the modern media
culture and high technology.
We must be mor critical of the invented world of the television and think about its effect on us.
I like the book because it includes everything: lovestory, friendship, tension... It is dramatic but from time to time also funny.
TSReview Date: 2006-06-01
The duration of the show was for 29 years without bigger problems but one day, Truman, the main character, seems to find out the truth about his life. He notices that everything is artificial and that his whole world is made fake only for him. Christof, the director of the show loses the control over Truman when the latter tries to escape. Christof does everything to stop him and keep him in the town where the Truman Show takes place- Seehaven. The message of the Truman Show is that our society is losing control more and more and that we let ourselves be influenced by the media and TV. We think the book is good, because it shows the problems of our society and what the manipulation of the media could result in. It is represented in a very funny way.
Reviw of "The Truman Show"Review Date: 2006-06-01
Imagine you find out that nothing in your life is genuine, you are controlled by others and everythin is filmed by cammeras so that millions can watch you. This is the message of the book. And it should make you think about how the media control our lives.
I like the story because we can identify with Truman and his situation. I recommend the film and the book because sometimes it is quite funny.

Awesome legal thriller with a Christian background.Review Date: 2006-04-14
This book also has just as much, if not more, Peretti-style Christian content than "The List" has. It is very noticeable from the beginning, and weaves its way throughout the entire book. This helps to make the book a very enjoyable read.
In my opinion, this book is developed very well, however some areas could have been a little more realistic. For example, Kay going to church and immediately hooking up with the pastor and his wife, going out to lunch with them, and hearing the pastor's amazing testimony just seemed a little too convenient. At the same time, I realize that the plot of the story required Kay becoming a Christian and then influencing Scott to do the same, so that is what Whitlow came up with to fill that necessity. Even so, that section of the plot was just a little unbelievable. A few other sections had similar problems, but this was probably the most prominent.
A very good part of the book, in my opinion, was the hidden identity of "the bomber". It kept me guessing through much of the book. I found it interesting how Whitlow dropped clues that seemed to point to Lester being the bomber. At the same time, however, I found other clues that helped me to guess who the real bomber was before his real identity was revealed.
One thing that I found somewhat strange is how Whitlow never actually reveals whether or not Lester is guilty. He just leaves you guessing at the end. I had a few guesses about his involvement as well as the person with him, but they were never confirmed or rejected. The book just leaves you with Lester accepting punishment whether or not he was truly guilty.
Overall, I would highly recommend this book. It is a very interesting book that really keeps you reading. It is full of sudden twists in the story which help keep the flow from becoming too slow.
As for other reading, Whitlow's book "The List" is good, but not quite as good as "The Sacrifice". Some of Whitlow's content is rather similar to the style of Frank Peretti, and I would recommend Peretti's books. For legal thrillers, the best author I know of is John Grisham. His books are non-Christian, but they are still really good. Read and enjoy.

Suarez appears to speak from experience, is definitely a focused shooter, and puts the reader in a frame of mind that is engineered towards combat effectiveness.
Some might find the intensity of attitude off putting but the knowledge provided far out weights the aformentioned intensity.
I would definitely recommend this book, along with several others as an addition to a shooters library.

Watershed MomentReview Date: 2008-08-09
It has been on my favorites shelf ever since, and I've lost track of the number of times I've read it.
Col. Cooper (rest in peace) herein sets out a little of everything. Perhaps most importantly, though, is what he addresses up front, which is just as applicable now as it was when he wrote it: Mindset. It has become acceptable, even fashionable, to allow oneself to be victimized. Cooper, right up front, points out that the way to prevent future attacks or affronts against one's self, family, country, property, etc. is to resist, to stand up, to fight back.
Reading this book definitely changed me as an individual.
I heartily recommend it to any and all.

NOT for novices. I repeat--NOT FOR NOVICES. also...who edited this thing?Review Date: 2008-04-05
Where should i even begin to complain about this $23 I will never get back? Well, let's start at jump street...The first and most glaring problem is, this is NOT an instructional book for the aspiring traditional bowyer, as I thought it might be--and as the back cover led me to believe. Rather, it is more of a sourcebook for those who already have a pretty strong working understanding of how to build bows. This is the book you ought to buy if you've already got a handful of bows under your belt; bows of different types and styles. I could imagine some bearded old Jim Bridger type sitting in his den, reading and re-reading it, with a hundred different bookmarks in it, and about 10 sentences highlighted on every page.
But if you are trying to learn how to build your own bow, and you don't know too much about it--by all means, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND LOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE. This book uses shop talk about every other sentence, and from page 1, nobody ever bothers to actually define what all this shop-talk actually means. You kind of have to just try and infer from the context very crucial central concepts--like which side of the bow is the back, and which is the belly...or what string follow is, or about a million other things. Case in point, there is a section in the chapter on bow construction (chapter 1) where the author describes a "standard wood bending test." He explains how to put a standardized staff of wood in this little device to test its flexibility characteristics--they even show a picture of the little device (which you are to build yourself for this purpose)--but he NEVER ACTUALLY EXPLAINS HOW to build the device. G
All I'm left with, after reading this junk, is the hope that someday, after i read a few better books on the subject, and build a dozen or so bows of my own--well someday this book may be handy. As for now, if the power goes out and i need something to burn for heat, this is it. I just sit and scratch my head as i leaf through the pages, thinking, Oh that might make sense, if i knew what this word meant. Or, wow, I know what tillering is. I wish this damn piece of crap called THE BOWYER'S BIBLE actually detailed the process, such that i might actually be able to follow some step by step instructions on how to do so!
I just wonder who edited this book? How does a professional editor not realize that this book creates more questions than it provides answers?
Yikes.
Anyway, not to keep Amazon from getting any new business--if you know how to build a bow, and you want to see some interesting pictures of like 50 different kinds of Northwest Indian patterns you can paint onto your work--or if you feel like looking at pictures of bows some guy made out of junk wood, or reeds, or broken arrows, well this is the book for you!
As for me, the search continues.

Three fantastic Tintin adventures in oneReview Date: 2007-11-29
This volume brings together three of the best loved Tintin classics in one handy volume- and for not much more than the price of one.
They are:
Cigars of the Pharaoh
First published in Le Petit Vingtième between 8/12 1932 and 8/2 1934. The book appeared in 1934 . Redrawn in 1955. It was first published in English in 1971.
A colourful and detailed adventure , Tintin and his dog Snowy meet up with an eccentric Egyptologist on a cruise , taking Tintin on a danger-filled adventure from Egypt to Arabia to India , in a hunt for whoever is behind the mystery of the Cigars of the Pharaoh , he is framed for heroin possesion , caught up in an Arabian war and sentenced to be executed , lost in the desert , locked up in a mental assylum in India , before being led to an international ring of drug trafficers. It is amazing the amount of detail Herge worked into these adventure comics.
Many of us grew up on them and love them for the nostalgia value.
I loved the animation in the underground Pharaoh's tomb, and the incredible dream sequence there.
The Shooting Star
Set in the 1930's, another great Tintin adventure begins in Brussels
Tintin notices that there is an extra star in the Great Bear constellation, that keeps growing bigger. He heads to the Space Observatory where he makes acquaintance with Professor Phostle and also encounters a madman who calls himself Philippulus the prophet. Phostle's prediction of the destruction of the world being imminent turns out to be off the mark, but Tintin joins important expedition to Greenland, to find the new mineral on the asteroid that has crashed into the ocean there, headed by Phostle and under the auspices of the European Foundation for Scientific Research.
A rival expedition financed by Sao Rico businessman Bohlwinkel does all it can to sabotage Tintin and friends, as the good ship Aurora heads out north.
A surreal dreamlike Tintin album with, as usual, lots of exciting colourful detail. Exciting and a lot of fun.
The episode of the anti-semitic stereotype of the international banker Bohlwinkel, Herge insisted was a genuine error with no malicious intent.
and
The Secret of the Unicorn
First published in French in 1943 as The Secret of the Unicorn (Le Secret de la Licorne. An epidemic of wallet snatching in and around Brussels affects the Thom(p)son twins as theylose wallets by the dozen. Meanwhile Tinin sees a curious model ship and decides to buy it for his friend , Captain Haddock , after which he is pestered by dealers to sell it to them.
The Captain unpieces the mystery of the adventures of his ancestor Sir Francis Haddock , who lived in the reign of Charles II , and his battle against the pirates. Meanwhile Titnin finds himself on the wrong side of rogue art thieves , the Bird brothers, and gets kidnapped by them where he does battle with them at their headquarters at Marlinspike Hall.
This is the first in a two part series leading up to Tintin's search for the centuries old lost treasure in Red Rackham's Treasure. As usual , full of adventure and fun-filled confusion, not to mention the historical flashbacks to the escapades of Sir Francis Haddock and the villainous pirate chief , Red Rackham.
