Practical, common sense wingshooting instruction from an uncommon man!

In Leon Measure's excellent book and DVD the student is taken from the basics of safety through proficiency with a shotgun. This product provides a building block approach to becoming the wingshooter you always wanted to be. Beginners will benefit by learning a repeatable, consistent method of shooting moving targets. Experienced shooters can benefit by experiencing a proven technique for repeatable success. This book/DVD will help overcome such mental and technical faults as:

-Overthinking (Paralysis by analysis or trying to consciously think WHILE shooting. Do that thinking at the appropriate time.)
-Inconsistent gun mount
-Failure to follow through after the shot
-Lack of practice

The product becomes not only an excellent training document but a valuable reference tool as well.

I particularly appreciate the ability to be able to practice the activity I love in a frugal manner (I can shoot in excess of a hundred targets daily for less than $1.00) and the sense of accomplishment that results from practicing these clear cut instructions.

It really works

Unbelievably simple and straightforward instruction will really have you shooting where you look in as little as 10 minutes a day for 2 weeks. You will wipe your friends eye on the skeet range or out hunting. Simple effective system, that really works! DVD is a huge help over just the book; Leon makes it so much more understandable and includes many points that are not covered in the DVD. NO BB-gun is required with the new program, so get it now and learn to SHOOT WHERE YOU LOOK .... If I can, You can (Leon's Trademark saying!)

A meteor falls to earth in the oceans of the far north

One night a star appears to get larger and larger and a strange heat wave strikes. Tintin goes to the observatory to inquire, where he finds that the falling star, a meteor, will soon strike earth and cause the end of the world. The meteor strikes but earth is still OK, and so a scientific expedition is launched to find and study the meteor. What will they find?

As you can see they find huge mushrooms. This adventure is very humorous with an insane astronomer. Captain Haddock and Snowy play slightly bigger roles than usual for some comic relief. Spiders, which terrify Snowy, keep pooping up throughout the story. Its pretty weird, but fun as always.

If you are reading this to help learn French, Tintin comics are good for reading at a French 2 level. There are a lot of words that aren't basic vocabulary but it is still easy to follow the story because the writing and pictures tend to reinforce each other. This one is fun and the vocabulary tends to be practical, with words such as "oil" and "plane".

Tintin faces the end of the world and giant mushrooms

In 1942 the continent of Europe was totally embroiled in World War II, which may well explain why Hergé offers up the most fanciful of les aventures de Tintin, told in the grand tradition of Jonathan Swift. In fact, nothing else comes as close to "L'Etoile Mysterieuse" ("The Shooting Star"), which begins with the world about to end because of a collision with a giant comet and ends with Tintin dealing with giant mushrooms. In between there is a race to find a meteorite that contains a new element of great scientific importance (another case of Hergé's remarkable premonitions based on meticulous research no doubt). Tintin is aided and abetted in this adventure by Captain Haddock, who we first met in the previous tale, "Le Crabe aux Pinces d'Or." But I must say the supporting character who caught my attention was the seaplane pilot who helps our hero in the throughout the episode and in the thrilling climax. You do not usually see such as a realistic, levelheaded, intelligent person helping out Tintin. I find it to believe Herge did not even give this fellow a name, who more than makes up for the eccentric college of eggheads whom Tintin is trying to help. "L'Etoile Mysterieuse" is one of the best of les aventures de Tintin and his adversary is more often the elements than the bad guys trying to beat the good ship "Aurora" to the meteorite. The contrast of Hergé's simple drawing of characters against more realistic backgrounds finds several excellent sequences in this story, the first to be originally printed in color.

For any of you fortunate enough to actually see the restored "Lost World" now completed by George Eastman House, this is an invaluable extra that reminds us just how much of this fantastic film has been missing for over 70 years. (Well, actually half of it!)

If you haven't seen the film in it's restored state, then this is the next best thing to being there.

Editor, Roy Kinnard gets us up to date with an informative introduction to the history of the film and the shooting script itself is eye-opening to read just how much story would have been there had the dinosaurs been removed.

(Rumor has it the producers were nervous that the dinosaurs would be a flop so had the screenplay written such that they could be edited out and still have a story if it was necessary.)

If you are a fan of this film or "King Kong" this is a must! The photos are great, including a lot that I've never seen anywhere.

(Sadly, as of this writing there are no plans to release the restored version of this great film on home video.)

This is THE book about the Luger pistol
Helpful Votes: 21 out of 23 total.
Review Date: 2000-06-08
The author, John Walter, is a leading writer on military firearms. His other books include, 'Luger', 'The Luger Book', and 'Rifles of the World.'

The Luger pistol is probably the most immediately recognizable pistol in the world. I doubt if any silhouette is better known, unless perhaps it is the Colt .45 Single Action Army. The first Luger was produced toward the end of the 19th century, when Georg Luger came up with it as an improvement on the Borchardt pistol.

This book is an extensive history of the Luger, from its inception (and before) to the present. It will be of great interest to Luger aficionados, as well as to firearms enthusiasts who are merely appreciative of its unusual design.

The Luger is unlike any other pistol in current production. Yes, it is still produced and available from Stoeger Firearms Company, an American company that has owned the Luger name since the 1920s. As a matter of fact, I have one that was manufactured in Houston, Texas, of stainless steel, with a six-inch barrel.

The Germans do not call the pistol the 'Luger,' but rather, 'Pistolen-08,' because it was adopted by the German Army in 1908. The Swiss adopted it first, in 7.65 mm in 1900, with the first pistols arriving for service in 1901.

The German Army adopted it in the 9mm 'Parabellum' (for war) caliber.

The Luger is easily identified in silhouette by the unusual toggle action, on the top rear of the receiver, and the raked grip, which makes the pistol a 'natural pointer.'

This book, in addition to a detailed text concerning the history and variations of the pistol, also contains many fine photographs of specimens, many in a special center section on coated paper. There are also several detail drawings of interest, and descriptions of many of the markings of the various versions offered.

This is a book that will be especially of interest to people who are attracted to famous firearms, and of course to Luger collectors.

The Luger Story covers the entire history of the Luger pistol, from the original design concept of the toggle action in the 1800's, to the last production run of pistols in the 20th century. A very interesitng volume for history-minded persons as the author includes biographical information about those persons associated with Luger development, as well as information about those companies pertinent to its manufacture. Also present is commentary on the times surrounding Luger advancement, and useful explanations are provided about what motivated development choices at particular times. The book includes an index of all Luger production runs, with relevant dates and other information, as well as a "rarity index." The result is a comprehensive volume about the Luger pistol and the facts relevant to its history.

If you are looking for a how to book on woodcock and grouse hunting look elsewhere. Valdene spends a great deal of time painting a picture with very fine brush strokes. As you read you will smell the smells, feel the ground under foot and see the enviroment as it really is. This is not a book about hunting as much as it is a book about appreciating something. I have read it several times (it is an easy read) and I am sure I will read it again and again. There are technical aspects to the book. When you are finished you will know pretty much all there is to know about woodcock. From the singing grounds in March through migration in the late fall. You will definatly have an appreciation for this simple little bird.

This is the shooting script to the most watched miniseries of 1998. All of the film's wonderful dialogue is included here along with some things that were cut and weren't seen in the miniseries. This edition also includes a short history about the film, a fine introduction, some pictures, and cast & crew notes. Great for any fan of the miniseries, any lover of King Arthur lore, or any serious film student.

As a semi-retired attorney, I know Michael Clayton. He fixes problems created by attorneys and clients of a large law firm. Attorneys come with all mortal and moral flaws plus some never dreamed of by those not within the legal profession. The role of Karen, the female corporate defense attorney, is so perfectly written as to describe any number of women who have risen to the top of the profession. There are many Karens in the legal field. I did not expect to enjoy the movie, but I truly did. Normally I hate to watch movies about lawyers because they are either poorly written or bring back sad memories. I want to grab the script writer and shake him or her and say, "That is not the way it is done, you idiot!" That is not true of this script.

A simple, effective shooting method
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-13
English shooting instructor and three time former World FITASC Champion, John Bidwell, has developed his own method of shooting which he calls Move, Mount, Shoot. It is a new form of maintained lead method (i.e., a technique where the shotgun's barrels stay ahead of the target throughout the shooting process). The appealing quality of Mr. Bidwell's method -- nicely explained and illustrated in his book -- is that it is very simple and straightforward. I will not try to explain all the facets of Move, Mount, Shoot in this review but I do like the technique and I think it deserves more attention -- especially in the United States.

In the U.S., Jon Kruger is probably the best known proponent of Move, Mount, Shoot. Currently, a sponsored target shooter by way of Krieghoff, Jon is in his early 40s I believe. However, when he was in his 30s, Jon Kruger was with little doubt one of the most successful sporting clays shooters in the U.S. -- he was unbeaten in over 40 consecutive tournaments in a 12 month period (an American record that should stand for some time). I cannot think of a better endorsement of the Move, Mount, Shoot technique than this.

Besides John Bidwell's excellent book here, that I feel should be read by all serious shotgun shooters, there is also a companion video which gives an excellent visual representation of Move, Mount, Shoot along with Mr. Bidwell's personal explanatory comments and a chance to see John actually demonstrating his technique on a variety of sporting clay targets. I think Bidwell's DVD of the same title as his book makes a great duo.
(Jon Kruger also turned out a video/DVD using Move, Mount, Shoot entitled, "Jon Kruger's Secrets to Success in Sporting Clays" by Sunrise Productions in Orlando, FL.)

Although I have not read it, John Bidwell has written another book on his shotgun shooting technique called "Shotgun Magic". Readers who enjoyed Move, Mount, Shoot would probably be well served by looking at Bidwell's second book also.

Perhaps not for the absolute beginner, but required reading for anyone who wants to excel at the various shotgun games that are available to us, especially that of English and International Sporting Clays. Though heavily focused on the "Maintained Lead" method, very good detail on shooting techniques for some specific "trouble" shots that I've been struggling with.

More importantly, this book does provide a very good and strong basic understanding of how to actually use your shotgun. Bidwell takes into account specific fundamentals like gun fit, sight picture, point of aim and impact, shot-stringing, and pattern placement. Also, a fair amount of space is dedicated to probably the most important aspect of successful shotgunning, a correct and consistent mount.

Anthony P. Mauro is back, hot off another African safari, with wisps of smoke still rising from the mopane logs and the pen in his hand. But his latest work is more than a re-account of a game-laden safari.

The New Age Hunter asks the question that has wrinkled the brow of anti-hunting urbanites since the practice of vegetarianism became en vogue; a question that is imperative hunters answer before the inevitable political battles over the future of hunting come to a head.

Mauro asks why a modern person, who does not depend on procuring his own protein for survival, still chooses to hunt.

He writes, "... it is the spiritual aspect that is the most compelling reason for why we hunt, but it ranks as the least understood by non-hunters. ..."

Using an anthropologist-type study of human evolution, a psychologist's analyzation of the human psyche, and combining his empirical and biological data with a hunter's insight and a writer's gift to weave theory with entertainment, Mauro takes as good a shot at nailing this critical question since the influential words of James Swan.

If you are a hunter intent on preserving your way of life, a conservationist, a student looking for truthful answers, or a non-hunter with a desire to understand the hunter's unwavering mindset, "The New Age Hunter" by Anthony Mauro is a worthy read.
