The quotes from the young males are very powerful and let me as an outsider get a better understanding of how young urban males adapt to their hostile and violent worlds. The book helps to make sense of all that we hear in the news media about urban youth violence. The conflicts that the young men participate in and the ways that they use guns to get status was alarming but understandable in the context of their social worlds. It is a depressing story with much to say about what's wrong with society.

This book truly impressed me. The information is all up to date, in-depth, and accurate. The pictures are in color, the average price of the weapon is included in its statistics, there are cut-aways, and above average amounts of information on the weapons and the companies that produce them. Any serious collector or enthusiast looking for a great referance volume would pick this one up. As a final note, though the title is "Hand Guns" there is a section in the back with the most popular and current sub-machine guns. I believe this was done because Mr. Diez has three books in his personal weaponry series, and wanted to give a wide scope of currently used infantry weapons. These books are entitled "Hand Guns", "Assualt and Precision Weapons", and "Support Weapons and Combat Equipment".

I'd would like to learn how to build a Gatling gun. If anyone could send me in the direction to obtain plans for this. Thank you.

I ran convoys in VIetnam and the gun trucks are what protected us. They were unique vehicles, made by the transportation companies themselves. This book documents them in detail and tells their stories well. The author was on a gun truck himself and with the aid of the internet and the trust of the other gun truckers, has compiled the most detailed picture of them you can find. The Army has found it needed the gun trucks once again in Iraq. The author assisted them in developing a new gun truck, but that will be in the next book!

I rate this book as exceptional. It provides an excellent historical perspective of the transition from the Pennsylvania style of gunmaking to the post-Hawken years, and the impact both upon and by Jacob and Samual Hawken and their Rocky Mountain rifles.

As a resident of St. Louis, I have access to the Hawken House in Webster Groves, Missouri, and to the Missouri Historical Society's Museum in Forest Park. It is exciting to see references to these resources mentioned in the book.

I am also planning to build my first true "Hawken" rifle, and this book gave me tremendous insight into what is historically accurate and why, for each period in the evolution of the Hawken Rocky Mountain Rifle. With this information, I am in a much better position to make informed decisions about what my finished rifle should be.

Hired Guns presents us with a plethora of all the sci-fi alien races, gadgets, space ships, weapons, and action we would hope to experience, intertwined with a love story and something more.
Belcher adds a fresh dimension to science fiction that is often overlooked in the genre; the practical aspects of how people (or aliens) support themselves on a daily basis. The economics of how individuals earn their livelihoods, business & industry operates, and how governments fund their operations, all on an interplanetary scale, all come into play for intrigue.
But that's not to say it's a dry read. Far from it.
Belcher's fluid style keeps the reader engaged, always wanting to see what happens on the next page. In short, there's something for just about everyone.
We would like to see a sequel containing something along the lines of "The Further Adventures of the Hancock Family."

I'm very pleased with this book. It is an amazing resource--a MUST HAVE for all Internet marketers. Ted shares his secrets to his Internet success....an excellent book!

This is a clear, concise and very well-written guide to gun ownership and avoiding jail time. With so many celebrities like Puffy Combs and Jay-Z, along with scores of average citizens being arrested for gun charges, this book provides a practical how-to guide to avoiding the slammer while packing heat. A special shout-out to Wallis, who contributed to to this review.

John Breck is a widower, who has left his ranch and two daughters to go to the aid of his dead wife's sister and family. Elizabeth, the sister, has also lost her husband, and is having difficulty with a daughter and son, who are starting to get wild. The other daughter is her mother's joy. John is using a derivation of his real name, and is now an upstanding citizen in his community after an earlier life as a gunfighter who was widely feared by lawless men. His nephew wants to emulate the uncle of his youth, but John has been changed by his marriage and fatherhood into a decent, upstanding man and no one in his county knows his true name. In his sister-in-law's town, the banker has the community under his thumb, and John is going to not only get Elizabeth's husband's gold claim properly restored to her, but try to help with the two wayward youth. This is a really good story, and I recommend it highly.
