MORE GUN BLAZING ACTION WITH BAMBI!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2006-04-20
Bambi is...well a hot, pink-haired, killing machine with a pink gun. Bambi has kidnapped a small boy with orders to deliver him to the mysterious "Old Men". Who they are and why they want the boy are not revealed, not yet anyway. But someone else wants the boy back. The Word goes out to professional hitmen and two-bit slime balls all over the country...they are to kill Bambi and bring back the boy unharmed to collect a 500,000 Yen reward. Pretty soon every pro and amateur hitman is on Bambi's trail looking to take her out as she encounters Yakuza hoods, skull masked assassins, a deranged serial killer teacher, and gunslingers in cowboy outfits...all looking to send Bambi six feet under. At the end of the first volume, Bambi faced off against a gun shop full of Cowboy killers and while she killed most of them, some managed to get away with the boy, "Pampi" in tow.

The killers are all a part of the Bloody Gang Mama, whose leader is the wretched, mean, peg-legged Mama herself. It doesn't take long for Bambi to track the gang down as she's determined to tear down the entire town to get Pampi back leading to a no-holds, battle to the death with Mama. I'm sure you can guess who wins. Later, a group of 18 wheeler trucker assassins use their rigs to box Bambi's little car in, trapping her in her toughest situation yet. The Gabba King is not giving up on his goal to get Pampi back, however, as he sends an undead, behemoth masked wrestler named "Platinum Mask" out to kill Bambi next.

Assushi Kaneko's Bambi and her Pink Gun continues its wild thrill ride of raw brutality as our heroine continues to wrack up an impressive body count of would be assassins. The battle with the truckers is particularly exciting as Kaneko uses a minimum amount of dialog and instead relies on his art to tell the story in cinematic fashion. Highly recommended!

Big Game and Big Game Rifles

A book equally excellent on hunting, riflery and ballistics.

Taylor writes extensively and expertly on the rifles and ammuntion used throughout his life as a professional hunter and perhaps as inter-war Africa's most notorious poacher. Since many of the sporting cartridges he used are obsolete this book is a valuable reference work for the student of the big game sporting rifle. Unlike many ballistic technicians Taylor repeatedly comments on bullet performance and that a sporting rifle bullet must be used according to the designer's intent. It is the fisrt such book I have read that repeatedly and forcefully cautions against using too-powerful rifles and too-tough bullets on game because of the danger of the bullet passing through the target animal to wound one or more behind it. All the more interesting is the fact that Taylor's experiences span the black powder express days, the rise of smokeless powder express rifles and the advent of small and medium bore high velocity "magnum" sporting cartridges. He provides sad comments on dead sportsmen who placed too much faith in high velocity magnum small bore rifles. Taylor is one of the few African hunter-authors who has great experience with the famed .600 Nitro Express. His comments are enlightening, and tame the beast, so to speak. Taylor has strong opinions on rifles. He favors double rifles above all others, is fond of single shot rifles and does not like bolt-action repeaters. He speaks, of course, as one who shoots from very close range and admits that things are different in North America. He praises the excellent marksmanship of hunters from the USA who use scope-sighted, bolt action repeaters. He labels the USA as a nation of riflemen.

The definitive work on the subject.

Speaking as someone who spends his entire day immersed in research, research and even more research, I am instantly able to recognise a kindred spirit. From the moment I opened this book and began to scan through it's 250 pages, I knew I was in possession of an item of considerable quality which had been thoroughly researched by the author.

This is a large coffee-table size book laid out in the best way possible. For those who are not quite sure of exactly what is a "Big Gun Monitor," what better than to commence with it's origins. This is followed by sections devoted to the 14 in., 12 in., First 15 in., Ex Brazilian River Monitors, Ex-Norwegian vessels, Small Monitors, Second 15 in., Last 15 in. and the guns they used before the author offers a retrospective view. Altogether, I view this book as a most complete and competent work.

Not only does the overall standard of photography do the author and publisher much credit, we are largely treated to a large collection of images not previously published alongside a few which might be familiar to some. Alongside these, throughout the book, we also have the technical pleasure of line drawings and blueprints of a type of vessel of which there are no surviving examples anywhere in the world!

Whilst most readers will enjoy the complete history of this type of ship, I have no doubt that others will doubtless buy the book in order to make models of these intriguing vessels,

Whilst I cannot claim to have read every single word (yet!), I have cross-referenced a great deal of the material found within this book with other learned sources and have found no errors or omissions.

This is a lot of book. It contains a lot of history, a lot of information, a lot of line drawing and a lot of photography for the asking price.

Worth every penny.

Great old west black powder and cowboy gun info!

This book is what appears to be a compilation of SHOOT MAGAZINE's different articles. It is all black and white with the exception of a few full page inside cover ads. Material is similar to "GUNS of the Old West" Magazine, but the articles (chapters) are more in depth and has more about actual shooting experiences than just reviews of various guns. Also includes some black powder cartridge reloading info, which seems very hard to come by if you don't shoot long range rifle matches. Normally I am hesitant to buy magazine compilation "books", but the quality and variety of info in this book make it well worth even the full cover price. GREAT book for those getting into black powder shooting - especially those interested in Cowboy Action type shooting. People who enjoy reading about "old west" guns and related history will find it a good read as well. It may be slightly less useful to those solely interested in long range single shot black powder range matches, as there are better sources for that type of info.

To my view, this is an outstanding book. Beautifull pictures coupled to a great writing style. The historical data and the linked descriptions to the guns that appear in the pictures are one of the best parts of this book. Certainly, I plan on buying all the other books on the subject of British guns by the same author. No hesitation in further recommending it. Short of ever having a Boss (dream on) this book should be considered by myself as a second best alternative.

I was very lucky to obtain a copy of this book. I am disappointed that I did not have this book while in service. This book is the best training aid I have personnally reviewed for identifying various artillery pieces that are still being used in many countries today! I also enjoyed it because the majority of the artilery listed was still in use while I was an artilleryman. This book is an excellent book, for reference and historical purposes, with a great many photographs.
I wish to congratulate Mr. Shelford Bidwell and all persons in the service of their countries who who made this book possible. Thank you.
