Jell-o Books

This cookbook contains many excellent gelatin and pudding preparation tips. Since I purchased this cookbook, I have made dozens of recipes from it with good results.

I came across the Jell-O Easy Entertaining (Favorite Recipes) book in a closeout store this morning, and just had to buy it. Since it's only available used on Amazon at this time, you can get it for the same price (plus shipping.)

What a great little book! The photographs are amazing, and every single dessert in it looks elegant (it's much more sophisticated than the Jello Jewels of our high school cafeterias!) The pies are phenominal, especially. There is a parfait in this that will make me look like the best hostess in town.

I've read all the directions -- there is nothing in this book that the average person couldn't do, yet the finished products are awesome to behond. Beleive me, after flipping through it all I can tell you that they can be replicated with ease.

If you come across this in your local Ollie's or order it from Amazon -- you will most definitely not be disappointed.

This book is great. It has all of the classic Jell-o recipes you remember from when you were a kid, like Under-the-Sea salad, rainbow molds, ribbon salad. The book also has more modern recipes for the more recently developed "sparkling" jell-o. Great color photos throughout the book.

Jell-o desserts had fallen out of fashion over the last few years, but with the retro food craze, I think we will see a revival. This book is a great place to start. My only complaint is that I wish there were more recipes.

Bring back your old memories of those yummy Jello desserts that your Mom used to make you as a kid. My whole family loves all of the recipes that we have tried from this book. They satisfy your sweet tooth, but don't add to your waistline. Enjoy!

This is book is fun and informative. I bought it some time ago along with its companion volume 'Spam'. Both are awkward, square books that are too wide for any average shelf- but that's not the real production problem. It lies instead in the quality of the paperstock used in the cover which is too light and cheap- subsequently both books have curling covers which takes away from them. The embossed inks and raised fonts are attractive but they simply need better stock to carry them. Get it right in the next edition and charge 50 cents more if necessary!

This book is filled with various recipes involving Jell-O gelatin and pudding mix. In 1939,Jell-O pudding debuted in three flavors:vanilla,chocolate and butterscotch. Today,there are fifteen. The others are lemon,pistachio,french vanilla,banana cream,coconut cream,devil's food,chocolate fudge,white chocolate,cheesecake,chocolate cherry,chocolate mint and cookies and cream(white chocolate with bits of Nabisco Oreo cookies). The 18 gelatin flavors are cherry,strawberry,raspberry,orange,lemon,lime,cranberry,black cherry,berry blue,wild strawberry,mixed fruit,peach,apricot,island pineapple,grape,mango,strawberry banana and strawberry kiwi. Comedian Bill Cosby has endorsed the brand since 1974,starting with only the pudding. In 1987 he began endorsing the gelatin. Today he endorses every Jell-O item including the Smoothie Snacks(fruit and milk medleys) available in 3 flavors:peach mango,strawberry banana and mixed berry. The late Roy Rogers and the late Kate Smith previously endorsed the pudding and previous spokesmen for the gelatin include the late Jack Benny and Andy Griffith. Cosby,the longest-tenured spokesman,has done a multitude of commercials and print ads for the brand. Cosby said in a 1987 commercial for the gelatin,"You can't be a kid without it.". There are about 200 different Jell-O items on the market today. The gelatin inventor's wife came up with the name Jell-O. Today's Jell-O slogan is "because it's magic".

This book is amusing and informative. It is full of more facts about Jell-O than you can shake a stick at! The history of Jell-O and the marketing of Jell-O are explored in great detail (did you know that 500 million packages of Jell-O are sold each year?).

But, best of all, this book is full lots of amazing Jell-O recipes. As soon as I finished this book, I went thrift shopping for Jell-O molds!

Jell-O blends a culinary history with a recipe book, following the story of jello's evolution as a famous desert and offering recipes for both main dishes and desserts. It lacks an index, so you'll have to read the book if you want the recipe for Spider cakes and other classics. Humor also blends in as chapters discuss the promotion of jell-o.

The Essential Mormon Cookbook: Green Jell-O, Funeral Potatoes, and Other Secret Combinations This is a decent cookbook for what it is. It IS very simplistic, however, I do love the fact that it would be a good "first" cookbook for a teenager, bride or non-cook type. I do love the seasonal aspect of how the book is laid out. Bottom line: This book is great if you are learning to create meals/memories, etc, however, if you are beyond the "basics", this isn't for you unless you want it for asthetics.

Yes, the recipes in this book are 'simple', but you don't have to wonder if they are going to turn out. I own several (maybe 50 or 60) cookbooks, but this is the book I always go to when I need a recipe that is both good and inexpensive to produce.

This cookbook is filled with all of those recipes that you ask for from complete strangers at church suppers. Simple down to earth and even healthy!

This is definitely a great book for Mormons! The recipes taste great and don't take an entire day to prepare. The average recipe serves 6-8 people. My four kids eat what I make when it is from this cookbook. The other thing I love is that the book aranges the recipes by season, so all the ingredients are in season. Also, the recipes fit the occasions and weather. However, if you are on a diet this would not be the book for you. However, seeing that I lost 30 pounds when I finally quit dieting 6 years ago, and instead focused on eating regular normal meals, I'm not a fan of low-fat, low-carb, low calorie, vegetarian meals. If you aren't either, this is a great little cookbook!

Having grown up around many Mormon families, I was excited to receive this cookbook and try out some of the recipes at our neighborhood potlucks. The book itself is beautiful, but the recipes are so unhealthy that it would be irresponsible to feed these finished dishes to families and friends. It's easy to make something fattening and unhealthy - which describes nearly everything in this cookbook - and I was hoping that the recipes would at least have been modified to make them healthier for today's lifestyles. I'm not a health food fanatic, and appreciate a fattening meal here and there, but this book is over-the-top in the "what not to eat" category. For me, there isn't much in this cookbook that sounds like it would be worth the trouble making.

This little book includes a DVD of a short film was shown at the Fargo Film Festival a couple of years ago. (Yes, this is not an error, Fargo does have a great film festival every year.) It just goes to show that whatever talent they may or may not have Lutherans are good at making fun of themselves. Check out the rock music backdrop to the church basement supper.

This book is great for the jell-o fan! They have recipes for everything. They range from the normal jell-o jigglers to pies, popcorn balls, popcicles, even hot chocolate! The recipes let the imagination and the taste buds run wild. There are over 150 recipes that you can chose from and are great for that last minute dessert you may need for a special occassion. The desserts are quick and easy to make and the book provides many pictures of the finished product to give you an idea of what it will look like. With so many delious easy to make desserts, it is defitnatly a good book to add to your collection.

If you dig old film strips from the 50s and 60s, if you like laughing at the horror of what was considered "good advice" back in the day, then you'll love this book.
Presented lovingly, this volume contains reprinted brochures and pamphlets given to children to educate and encourage them to be well groomed, well behaved, asexual cogs in the wheel.
Deliciously hilarious. You won't be disappointed.
The artwork and photos are worth it alone.
