TheDarkAges
Ignoble is the first novel of the Dark Ages Trilogy by Sturmen Krieg, and immediately gives the reader a fascinating insight into how a military operation to tackle drug trafficking in South America could be carried out with devastating results. When experienced and tough American soldiers come up against determined and ruthless forces controlled by a drugs cartel there can only be one result, a tense and thrilling adventure full of betrayal, life and death struggle and a glimpse into the horror that can result from pure greed.
Team Bravo is led by a tough and experienced soldier called Captain Alexander Scott Richter assisted by the equally tough Sergeant-Major Clifford Ramsey whose mission is a secret joint DEA-Panamanian drugs operation in Columbian territory. Soon everything begins to fall apart when betrayal compromises the mission and the team find themselves cut-off and with the added trauma of finding a Colombian village where all the people have been horrifically slaughtered, showing us how difficult it is for soldiers to keep it together under extreme circumstances and how cheap human life can become when money is the driving force.
Sturmen Krieg obviously has first-hand knowledge of what he is writing about and tackles the subject well with a clear and very professional writing style that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the final page. I couldn't find fault with this book due to the fact that the author doesn't deviate from his subject and attempt to fill gaps with unnecessary verbiage. The plot is clear from the beginning and the story unfolds superbly as if the reader was there as an observer, making me think that this novel would translate well to screen. Personally, I have always been fairly dismissive of military style novels, but Ignoble has certainly changed my mind.
If you are looking for a thrilling military read then you need look no further than this. I only hope that Sturmen Krieg can keep up the pace for the rest of his trilogy!
In addition, at the back of the book the author has added nearly four pages of military acronyms and abbreviations, which I found helped a military novice as myself. Being the kind of gal I am, I read these first so I knew what they meant before starting the book. Having said that, I was surprised to discover I already knew more of these abbreviations than I expected to. I suppose that is down to having a son who plays war video games all day long! (or would, if I let him).
Author Bio:
Doctor James E.Fischer, a.k.a. Sturmen Krieg, presents the first volumne of his trilogy. A retired United States Army Officer, Krieg brings to the forefront the treachery, deceit and brutality of the human specie when confronted by the possibility of acquiring enormous wealth. Krieg, too, received his "blood-wings" from the 101st Airborne (Air Assault).

Book is a MUST for critical care and emergency practitionersReview Date: 1999-05-11
Each monograph contains practical information used by practitioners on a day-to-day basis. Dosing guidelines have hints for making rapid dosing decisions and the "tricks" of dosing conversions between different dosage formulations. A unique feature of each monograph is the Monitor section, which contains the common parameters that should be used to determine efficacy and safety of the medication. Practical guidelines for therapeutic drug monitoring are also included when appropriate, such as the timing for drawing serum levels and interpretation of the serum concentration value. Compatibility with other drugs is also listed. However, this reference only addresses Y-site compatibility issues since this is the most common compatibility information required by critical care practitioners. This pocket reference contains precisely the usable information essential for critical care practitioners.

I thank you Mr. Shabazz for your work and once again this proves that NO prayer is too small that HE won't answer.

Forever a Greatful reader

Terrific book on catsReview Date: 2007-06-18
First, the book looks at cats in history. As someone who once had cats as family members, I can get excited when I read that (page 17): "The heyday of the domestic cat was certainly in ancient Egypt, where the pets were not only useful members of society, but for almost 2000 years were deified as well." This section provides a nice context of the historical view of cats.
Second, there is a nice encyclopedia of cats, starting on page 39. My friends were a tabby cat and a calico. This lengthy section puts these into a larger context--from lions and tigers to the domestic cat.
Third, for those who have cats, the section on "Cat Care" is very useful indeed. I would commonly open the book to this section when my cats had any problems. The various ailments are well described and, at least to my experience, very helpful. Over time, I experienced with one cat having diabetes (and having to inject her every day), old age (my tabby cat lasted to 19 years of age), an onset of paralysis, what may have been feline leukemia (but was probably not, since both survived nicely), and so on. The encyclopedic coverage of ailments and how to address these was invaluable.
And there are lots of nice photographs of cats!
All in all, I found this a terrific volume to help me with my cats.

Copious research and insightful materialReview Date: 2007-01-22
Quite essential reading, reallyReview Date: 2006-05-26
Well, such stubborn people need to do some serious rethinking. Because what good is science unless it questions and investigates? But to make Spiegel even more controversial; he also experiments on animals when investigating why animals (and remember, the human being is an animal, too) choose to become intoxicated by various means. And also when they choose not to. These experiments clearly show how all animals use narcotics. So in other words, man is not alone in this struggle for a changed state of mind.
So what does this all mean? Well, it shows that the so-called War on Drugs is as futile as it is pointless, since there will always be and always has been people who choose to subject their bodies and minds to different drugs that the state or ruling class has decided should be illegal, and it also shows that it's indeed possible use narcotics and still be a very functioning member of society. Not all drug users end up as pathetic heroin junkies. The politics of drugs are extremely complicated, but arguing strictly from emotional points of views while refusing to accept new and mind-blowing ideas is, to put it simple, quite stupid.
Of course Siegel doesn't imply that everyone should do as much drugs as possible all the time whenever they feel like it. But what he does indeed do is giving all those millions of users of legal drugs - prescribed medication, coffee, cigarettes, and so on - something to think about, and he also clearly shows how all those Just Say No and other anti-drugs campaigns do more harm than good. After all, it's a human drive to become intoxicated, so why should some campaign manage to erase this drive? It's not going to happen, and people need to understand that.
Our culture encourages and even romanticizes the use of alcohol and cigarettes - two of the most deadly drugs man has ever come up with - and large corporations make billions of dollars from prescription drugs that are often a whole lot more harmful than the strongest your local dealer can provide you with. This is hypocrisy to such an extent that it's almost impossible to even comprehend, and Spiegel and his team of researchers therefore deserve all the credit they can get for trying to enlighten people they way they do. But just like any other type of fundamentalism, the anti-drug people will probably ignore Mr. Spiegel and all his knowledge, and this will in the long run do more harm to the human race than all the drugs in the world could ever do.

I have read everything on the subject of Iboga since 1990. My interest in Iboga (folkloric Benzogho similarly) has to do with coming to terms with loss of a loved one. I have used Iboga w/Nganga, to mediate the forces of life & death & to soothe (not remove) the grieving process with very positive, enduring results.
