This book is wonderful. Mark tells of his own battle with alcoholism and his determination to become sober. He gives a good insight on the root of alcoholism. His recovery alone is inspiration for anyone to believe that they too can be sober.A must read for anyone who is trying to over come an addiction.

I had four children in private school. So very true to life.

I wish all parents of high school age children would read it. It is so very true to life. I still have broken diningroom chairs as testimony to my children's highschool days.

Entertaining tale of one man's ordeals with alcoholism.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Judge's book. Not only does he provide educational information on the root of alcoholism, he tells a very entertaining story of his youth. Many times I laughed out loud. My only complaint (which isn't one concerning the story) is that the book was printed on paper that utilized only half the page. A lot of wasted space.

I am fortunate to have experienced Candy Finnigan's experience, strength and hope in person. I adore her huge heart and have often been deeply moved by her tears of joy when she listens to someone she has helped share about their recovery.

I'm so glad she has written a book so that people around the world can benefit from what she has so freely given to recovering addicts. There is nothing an alcoholic or addict can put over on Finnigan! Trust me. She always has an answer for every excuse, every "Yes, but..." She's amazing. She's a gift. She is Blessed. And she's heard 'em all!

This is the second copy I am buying - the first was for a family who needed it - this one is for me, even after 20 years in recovery. If you think you know someone who is having problems with addiction - - please buy this book. You may just save a life- like Candy has.

I fell in love with Woodworth's characters

I loved being a fly on the wall in Woodworth's town of Maywood, watching its delightful cast of characters go about their daily lives.
Although I'm an adult, I fell in love with the characters in the book, and wish Woodworth would write a sequel (hint! hint!)
This book takes place in a laid-back small town, but it is by no means slow-paced. The characters spring to life from the beginning. Lydia, the main character, is a spunky girl coming of age and really truly growing up (maturing). Actually, all of the characters are vivid, and I particularly loved the strong female characters, like Lydia's grandma (who is such a fireball!).
The ending was so satisfying--except that it ended.

I couldn't put this one down!

I originally bought this for my daughter and ended up hiding it from her until I was done - which wasn't long since I couldn't put it down! Woodworth's sharp wit and ability to transfer the reader into a 1962 small town in Indiana make it hard to believe this is the author's first published work. I look forward to her next book and highly recommend this one!

Excellent book. I couldn't put it down. Lydia is a great character who I believe people can relate to in some shape or form.

I want more.

Woodworth's first? I hope it's not the last.

This is a phenomenal book! Tav Sparks integrates, in tangible terms, the Twelve Step approach through the recovery "crossroads" crisis which affects all Twelve Step practitioners. There are some very good listings in what he calls The Treasure Trove--11th Step Doorways, with enough explanation to prevent the hocus-pocus paranoia common to less traveled searchers. For those seeking 11 step practices I would strongly recomend this book.

For those familar with AA's Big Book wanting to connected with their higher power and go on to oneness with the higher power. Tav Sparks compares the 12 step program of AA to Eastern Yogas and presents the steps and promises as a Western yoga with union of consciousness with the higher power as being the esoteric goal of the recovery process. Included are some modern means of accessing transpersonal reality such as holotropic breath work. The book may be hard to follow if one is not familar with any of the 12-step programs, yet, it is not technical but heart-felt and inspiring.

An Up Close and Personal View of the European Witchcraze

Sidky details all the true and horrific aspects of the European witchcraze. From the beginning to the end you will never become bored or think the book dull. Besides the written facts and charts, Sidky also encloses copies of several artworks of what people thought of witches and the devil. Everything covered is given sufficient detail and everything detailed is supported completly.

I used this book extensively for a paper I just wrote comparing the European witch-craze of the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries to the Azande in Africa. I used Sidky's book for most of my information on Europe and found it very helplful. It was informative, well researched, well written, and well organized. It presented material in a clear manner which made it easy to understand and also helped me find which sections I needed to talk about in my essay. I also enjoyed the numerous illustrations of artwork depicting the witch-hunts/torture devices/Sabbat rites/and illustrations of medieval texts related to the witch-craze. I highly recommend this book to anyone writing a paper on the European witch-hunts from an anthropological stance, to all anthro majors and minors and anyone interested in examining a bit of dark (but fasinating) history.

If you're into everything from schizophrenia to ergot poisoning, from the black plague to the dread Malleus Maleficarum, from the "thumb screws" method of torture to The Devils of Loudon and demonic possession, then this is the book for you. Add to that a collection of pictures that would shock any uncouth European peasant living in the sixteenth century, and you've got the making of a most bizarre book in the most bizarre field of "witchcraft studies". Here you get to see the shear ugliness of life in medieval Europe during the Inquisition up close and personal. You get to look into the mind of the "witch hammerer" as he singles out those members of society that alleged performed those sinister magical acts that included cannibalism, sexual contact with demons, and spreading plague and disease. Rather than arguing that "witchcraft was real to the people of the time so it was real" like other "mentalist" anthropologists in the field have done, the author condemns those who insisted on the existence of witchcraft and argues that it was used an excuse to persecute and mercilessly torture thousands. As far as lycanthropy goes, the author suggests that the mentally ill, social outcasts, and those infected with rabies may have been those persecuted as "werewolves". The pictures and bizarreness of the topic alone earns the book five stars, and while there are parts of it that I'm not sure that I can agree with (for instance, the author believes that cannibalism has never been a socially acceptable practice to any great extent in any culture whatsoever) the author does an excellent job of revealing the pernicious delusions which plagued the European mind during the time.

I bought this book for my husband who is suffering from mild depression but have read it myself from cover to cover. This was surprising because I am not a big fan of self help books.

Brilliant book for those searching to understand what is going on inside our mind and what are the origins of mental and even physical illness. I will make sure my husband reads this book because it is extremely helpful to change ways of thinking and behaving. Besides, there is a lot of interesting facts, for example, about memory of water and how our emotions affect the structure of water.

Very recommend this book for everybody not only for those who suffers from depression.

Glad to have this book

This is an absolutely amazing book - I started reading it and could not stop untill I was done. It inspired and at the same time surprised me with unusual approach to resolving my everyday problems and stressful situations. It made me look differently at things and people surrounding me. It's like everything came together to one logical explanation and started making sense. The author's methodology is simple and effective. I tried it right away and was surprised to see that my headache was gone! This was something I did not expect just from mental realization of my emotions!
I will also try his method of analyzing and changing information of dreams. This topic has always interested me, and I have read a lot of books about dreams and dream analyzing, but nobody has ever told me that I can change my dream and become a master of my destiny.
Author covers many topics and uses great anecdotes and metaphors to make his points. This book prepares people for life and should be a required course for high schools and colleges. I would very recommend it to everyone.

Book presents an interesting and unique perspective on causes of our problems, provides clear insight, and practical solutions. Author establishes connection between stress in the past and illness (or psychological problem) in the present. We always hear that all problems are from stress but until now nobody gave a sound explanation HOW IT HAPPENS. I liked the way this book is structured - skeptic opposes the author. It works very well. I decided to send this book as Christmas present to some of my relatives.

When I spotted the book on the shelve many years ago I blinked 3 times because I couldn't believe it was the same guy who I grew up with in Brighton Beach.

Well written and when I contacted him, he responded. Apparently never forgot his roots.

I write this almost 17 years after reading the book and mentioning the above, because after going through a pile of books to sell or donate, I realize this is one I'll cherish and hold on to.

Do not know what the author is doing today but sure he's living a fine productive life.

I read this book when it first came out after seeing the author on a talk show years ago. Since then, I have bought many copies and given them to young people who needed just what the book offers, which is a highly motivational, true life account of someone who, against all odds, became highly successful. I purchase copies for students in the school where I work. I'm purchasing another copy today. I only wish I knew how to contact the author so I could implore him to come personally to our school for a visit. What a difference he could make!

Reading this book will inspire every child to get a quality education, and to never let any obstacles get in his or her way. Drew is a relative of mine and he is a person who would tell the American youth exactly how it is out in the world and that even though the road will be tough to keep on going! This book is very inspiring.

As long as you have a nominal understanding of medicine and medical terminology, this book is well worth the price. As a matter of fact, it is priceless! Ever have a doctor scribble out a prescription and hand it over to to you without even telling you what it is, or does? Sure you have, we all have. With the PDR you can look it up and decide for yourself if you should seek a second opinion. Some doctors make a living just selling useless (and sometimes dangerous) medications. Moreover, if you know what medication someone is taking (especially if you know the dosage), you can look it up in the PDR and figure out whats really wrong with them. Therefore, this is a good text for lawyers and those who work in law enforcement as well. The PDR also functions as a primer on medicine and the US health care delivery system. And don't forget, this was Elvis' favorite book!

Even if you get overwhelmed, everyone should read this. We do have a instant gratification problem and thus a "drug it up" problem lately. The consumer editions are oversimplified. This gives you every bit of info possible. It has chemical compounds, all side effects, interactions, and a in-depth explanation of what it dose. Such as "serotonin reuptake inhibitor" which is all I need to know but the consumer editions explain glibly.

Great as usual

This book is not intended for the average homeowner, as it takes some practice to use it. It is, however, the best reference book out there to look up all you want to know about certain medicines. I am a nurse, and use it more often than my pocket reference when I need to know the minute details of a drug to answer patient's and my questions. One needs a pretty good knowledge of medications and groups to fully appreciate this book and not to be bogged down and lost.
