Better than I had expected

Review Date: 2008-05-03
I recently purchased a number of items to use in my Japanese scrapbook.
Most of my purchases have been very disappointing, but this purchase was quite the opposite!
The stickers were exactly as was shown on the front cover and on-line.
There are four stickers to a page with the average IMAGE size being 2"x1.5"
Each image is surrounded by a white border and is labeled at the bottom with the title of the piece of art as well as its author.
This makes each sticker approximately 1.7"x2.1"
There were numerous pieces of art included in the 16 stickers.
None of the images were repeated and they were acid free for scrap booking.

What I liked:
Great images of geisha and oiran (courtesan).
Two famous pieces of art containing Mt. Fuji.
Four images of everyday landscapes with cities, bridges, or window-scapes.
Coloring was not overpowering and had NO glitter!

What I did not like:
I need to remove the white borders because they clash with the scrapbook style I use.
As mentioned by another reviewer, two of the images are a little blurry.
I did not like "lovers becoming familiar" sticker.

Overall it was a good price of $1.50 from target and the stickers were worth it = )

Would have been better had it been larger

The stickers may be larger than a postage stamp - but not by much. The 4 1/16th by 5 3/4 size quoted is the size of the actual book, and the pages hold four stickers each. For the price I suppose it's decent enough, being acid free and adhesive, but the actual reproduction leaves a little something to be desired. I was upset to find that the reproduction of Hokusai - Kingfisher, Irises and Pinks was blurry. The other included prints are:

UTAMARO - The Courtesan Hinazuru at the Keizetsuro

EISHO - The Courtesan Midorigi
EISHI - A Beauty from the Pleasure Quarter
HIROSHIGE - Asakusa Rice Field
UTAMARO - Three Beauties of High Fame
CHOKI - Hanaogi with Maidservant
HIROSHIGE - Drum Bridge and Sunset Hill
HOKUSAI - Peonies and a Canary
EISUI - Somenosuke of the Matsubaya
EIZAN - Snow
HIROSHIGE - Maples at Mama
SHUNSHO - Lovers Becoming Familiar
HIROSHIGE - Crossing the Yoroi Waterway
HOKUSAI - A Favorable Breeze and Clear Weather
HOKUSAI - Stormy Sea Off Kanagawa

Activity book for LazyTown Lovers!!
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 2 total.

Yes, it's a coloring book. But to me, it was obvious from the price that it's not a reading book. And it's got stickers--what kind of reading book lets you put stickers on the pages? There are about 20 stickers, pictures on a prismatic background. You can cut up the back cover for a bike license plate.

The artwork is in the style of the LazyTown coloring pages from the NickJr website, large enough for little hands to color. Each page has a couple sentences at the top to carry the story along. The pages are perforated for tearing out. I would say this is appropriate for K-1 reading level.

I only gave 4 stars because of the price, but I bought it to support LazyTown!! Oh, and for my kids!!

Not a book but a coloring book

I was under the impression that this was an actual book that I could read to my child but it is a coloring book on that awful cheap gray looking coloring book paper not even the nice white kind.

This book is totally overpriced. I can get this identical book at a local store for $ 1.00. What was I thinking? I was sure this had to be a bigger or better version. This is the first time I have ever felt "taken" by Amazon.

Really cute idea...

This is a cute book. There are 4 pages of stickers. If you remove the cover from the inside pages, you can use the scene on it with the stickers to create various train scenes...and then change them as desired.

However, my 3 year old did not see using it that way - he would rather put the stickers in his own sticker book, so that particular concept failed. But the stickers are nice, and the concept is still cute.

This stickers hardly stick to the pages, and the book tells only half of the whole "Chicka chicka boom boom story."

not the best sticker book

This sticker book has some points to recommend it -- the vinyl stickers and glossy pages mean that the stickers really are reusable, the story itself is proven entertaining by the many children and parents who love it, and the colors are very cheery. Given that, however, this doesn't really make a very good sticker book. Maybe if the letters on the pages were just outlines and kids stuck the stickers over the outlines it would be a little more fun, or maybe if there were another scene after the storybook where you could place the stickers it would be fun, but as it is all you do is plaster the sticker over an identical picture of the letter within the action of the story -- not really interesting or challenging, and a bit expensive for the privilege. Just my opinion, but you'd be better off buying a nice big edition of this fun book rather than getting this sticker edition.

Loved it!

My son is 18 months old. I have to read this book 20 times a day. He loves the chant and has memorized most of the book.

Excellent source for learning abc's.

Good for learning letters

My two and a half year old daughter does enjoy this book when I read it to her and help her with the stickers. It is nice that the stickers are actually vinyl and can be reused easily. If your child is into sticker books, however, this one could be a disapointment. It just has letters...not too much of interest there.

These stickers do NOT stick!

Chicka chicka abc is a great book for little ones. My daughter memorized it on first reading (2 yrs old). But this sticka version of the book is not worth the money. We just received our copy from ... and the "reuseable' stickers do not stick. They come off almost immediately and my daughter is NOT impressed. Neither am I. Save your money, get the abc book or the full length version for an older child and try some of the many online book related activities you can find for this book on the web. For example my daughter and I just printed out a coconut tree picture and then using normal alphabet stickers we had in the house she proceeded to recreate the letters climbing up the coconut tree. MUCH more fun!

I was a little disappointed by this item - there are many stickers, but they are not easily re-usable (at least not for my 2.5 yr old) and there are not really that many options for creating different pictures if you want the machines to be in places where they make sense. My son, who is a construction site fan, lost interest after first use.

hmmm . . . I have a completely DIFFERENT experience!

After reading the other reviews, I went ahead and ordered this book for my almost-3-year-old son anyway. I'm very glad I did. I'm not sure if it's been reconfigured since the other customers received theirs, but we've had the Construction Site Sticker Picture out for about three weeks now, and we're still using and re-using the stickers. They're not Colorforms-quality, but they do seem to have some vinyl content, and they're definitely repositionable. In addition, the stickers are beautifully three-dimensionally illustrated and work so well with the background picture. I would HIGHLY recommend this book!

My son had a great time with this book. When I bought this I thought it had reusable stickers. Buyer beware! The stickers are your every day-to-day stickers. I thought they were the static cling kind that can be used re-used used again and again. My son loved it but after about an hour the fun was over. Not worth the $4.05 I paid :(

I agree with "Save Your Money" that Construction Site is not worth the $4.05 you paid for it. The stickers are only reusable if you are moving them right away. Once they sit for a few hours they are permanently stuck. Very disappointing. On the plus side is that at least there are a lot of stickers to keep a little one happy until they are all gone. But I would recommend not purchasing this product.

I've never been more disappointed in something I ordered from Amazon. Tiny four page book with just stickers; no activities even suggested much less included. Marked on the back for $1.50 not $3.49. Don't buy!

What a rip-off1

First, I was charged $3.49 for this item when it is clearly marked on the back as $1.50. Secondly it is a MINI-Book which is 4 X 6 inches and has 24 stickers in it that are tiny. What a rip-off. I am highly incensed that this was mis-represented. I expected a BOOK of stickers -- not a little insulting folder.
Do not buy this --I would return it but it wouldn't be worth the postage.

Well worth the price!

I purchased this book for the $3.49 price. To my surprise, it really is 4 pages, small pages, and the list price on the book is $1.50. There are about 24 small stickers, the size of a quarter. Save your money, it's not worth the cost of the book plus shipping.

Your Scooby fan will love this! It has 3 coloring books, one sticker book, and one marker. I say its misleading because the description leads you to believe there are crayons and sticker sheets. I give it 3 stars because it is a great price for the amount of books you get.

I was very disappointed when I opened this book. The cover gives every indication that this will be a nice short storybook or activity book similar to a Highlights book. Forget it. It is nothing more than a 99-cent newspaper-print coloringbook with a nice cover, and some cheesy stickers that do stink, but not like you'd expect. Save your money and go to the 99-cent store where at least you get a decent amount of pages for coloring on.

Cute but won't last long...
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2006-11-23
I've been looking for a reusable sticker book to try out with my 3yr old... This one looked cute and we ordered it. It's not much of a book... more of a fold-out chart; it only has 2 pages to the whole thing. But it was still cute and my daughter and I had an enjoyable time peeling off the stickers the first time and finding where they go in the chart. The problem came with the removing and resticking of the stickers... It is labeled as "reusable", but once my daughter started peeling them up again quite a few split in half, and now the $5 book is useless after only about 10 minutes of play. The stickers are made of a material that feels and smells a lot like Contact paper... so they are more plasticy than papery. I really do wish it had lasted longer; it is a cute design but just not realistically going to last very long. Not worth $5 I'm afraid, and my search for a reusable sticker book continues.

The illustrations are cute. But, the stickers tear fairly easily and do not not stick well for storage or reuse. You might get 2 play sessions out of this product.
