My family has enjoyed listening to the Harry Potter audio books for several years. Jim Dale's readings include a host of characters with remarkably distinctive voices that carry over from the first book, the Sorcerer's Stone, to the last. He reads with fabulous energy and makes these great stories come to life like nothing I've ever heard before.
The Prisoner of Azkaban is no exception. This audiobook is a fabulous way to enjoy several afternoon in the car or in your favorite chair at home.

Completely amazing.

A fellow Potter fan pointed out that this book was longer than "Chamber"
My bad.
I must have been confusing the movies. DOH!!!
I blame it on age. :)
As for the book, ahem....
In short, it's brilliant.
All the action and drama of the first two with twists and turns that made it almost impossible to put down.
The Prisoner of Azkaban further advanced the series with slightly more mature themes and an absolutely haunting atmosphere.
This book solidified the series as a force to be reckoned with.
Same as the previous two, highly recommended.

Like the first two Harry Potter books this book is great, it is in this book that parents should beware; it starts to have a few more moments that might scare the younger reader, it takes on a darker side as Harry ages and Voldemort begins to gain his power back, Definately makes you want to continue to read the complete set, this is my second time thru the books and I never tire of reading them. Great Reading for all ages

It's a great story, with much more detail and interest than the movie that was based on it. Jim Dale's performance is excellent and really brings life to the characters.

I took off one star because one of the disks was scratched & Amazon cowered behind their policy that they would not allow an exchange of an audio product that was opened.

The Bible...As You've Never Heard It Before. All-Star Cast Really Does This Justice With One Exception

Review Date: 2008-07-04
I was excited about "The Word Of Promise" after seeing an interview on TBN with Jim Caviezel about this production. Though I'd recently bought the King James Version of the Bible (probably the most authoritative translation of God's Word; the New King James Version OMITS the lovely pronouns "Thee," "Thou," "Thine" and the beautiful archaic language of the Elizabethan period and the NIV is THE WORST translation), I was intrigued by a dramatic audio version of the Bible. The all-star cast is excellent. However, I had to deduct one star because of one major thing: the actor who played Felix sounded like a woman (the actor who played Satan was a woman, but I guess the producers mixed her voice with sound effects and did it so well that it wasn't noticeable that it was a woman playing Satan. A minor complaint: Academy Award winner Richard Dreyfuss DOES NOT DO FULL JUSTICE to the part of Moses (woefully underused in the New Testament). I think that had Academy Award winner Charlton Heston ("The Ten Commandments," "Ben-Hur" [Best Actor, 1959]) not been ill, the producers could have gotten him to play the part which launched his career for this and The Word Of Promise Old Testament (coming Fall 2009). I've yet to see a good audio version of te King James Bible.

This New Testament Audio Bible brings the Bible to life. With all the high tech sound effects and the talented actor's voices, you feel you are right there, living the moment. It is really an outstanding production of God's word. I give it the highest recommendation.

Wow... with a few exceptions

Review Date: 2008-06-19
The WOW is how the audio book brings the New Testament to life. The sound effects help and rarely sound hokey. Plus, there is an amazing cast of actors who play the parts in the story. I was pleasantly surprised to see how many in Hollywood were willing to be part of a Christian project.

The exceptions were few. One thing in particular makes listening a little difficult. When Jesus is talking, sometimes his voice becomes incredibly choppy. The words are practically thrown, one by one, into the recording. It reminds me of the early days in Hollywood when an actor was portraying a stereotype of a Native American and trying to mimick the speed and accent. Fortunately, these sections of the recording are few and far between.

I have to say, the New Testament and CD has been a wonderful purchase. I would encorage you to buy it, enjoy it, and let is speak to your soul.

The Best I've Heard So Far

I own about a dozen different audio Bibles and this one is by far the best. The score and sound effects are beautiful and the actors did an excellent job.

They split the tracks by chapter and did a good job of putting the complete books on one CD.

My only negatives were that sometimes it feels like the actors are just reading it and the voice of satan/demons were a bit...shall we say trick-or-treat (I was hoping for more of an Exorcist/Omen).

carefully gives you step by step, I have not done transfer but will try it now. For beginners start with her earlier books, then move on to this book.

Excellent overview of clay techniques and basics

I was totally new to clay working, heading for a class in the medium, when I purchased this book. I was absolutely delighted, and was able to start my class with some background and understanding of working the materials. I sit in awe of Ms. Kato's talent, and did find the techniques more difficult than they look. This aside, it is an excellent accumulation of many of the techniques that makes polyclay such a joy to work with. Ms. Kato does list several varieties of clay, inks, paints and other products, but I appreciate that she enumated which she found easier to work with, and why. I did expect some bias towards Kato Polyclay, as she helped develop it, but have also found this an excellent product to work with and have not been disappointed with its performance.
The book is a MUST HAVE for the beginner reference library, and is also an inspiration with the images from Ms Kato and other artist's collections. I'm pleased I purchased this book, and plan to keep it as a cornerstone for clay working.

I found the book just did not live up to my expectations. When will crafting books realize that photo transfers done with xerox machines hardly ever work as they are shown in books? The techniques of photo transfer, which is covered in this book as if it works, is really frustrating. Also, the use of translucent clays to good effect is iffy and the high polish acheived by the author on many of the pieces. I just couldn't get it to work.

Beyond basic rubber stamping techniques!

Review Date: 2007-10-06

A beautiful book on using texture in paper crafts (not just in card making).

This book goes beyond being a "basic rubber stamping book",which is why I bought this book. I have been taking paper crafting classes for a few years and it's good to have a book like this one on hand because many of the techniques shown in this book are used in the "upper-level stamping classes" I've taken.

So often I have taken a paper craft class and then after a few years I've forgotten how to create a certain texture. Well, this book is great because it will often jog my memory of those upper-level classes that require skill and detail---BEYOND just inking a rubber stamp and slapping the design on paper.

In order to create a card or picture with color and texture, it's good to know the techniques shown by Ms. Curry in this book. Then, after practicing these "texturizing techniques", an artist can apply his or her own style to their art product.

For everyone who likes rubber stamps ...

This is not merely a picture book, nor is it a long-winded teaching book. The teaching is there, done via a series of projects which involve the reader in using the techniques. I love the clear way the content is provided. And I like it that Ms Curry gives her preferences, and reasons, for specific products. Altogether a great book.

If you are interested in learning how to carve your own art rubber stamps then you need this book as well as The Weekend Crafter:Rubber stamp carving.

Both books provide clear cut instructions on how to carve your own stamps to make artistic and fun stamps that are one of a kind. But this book is much better of the two and I'd suggest this one if you can only buy one book on the subject of stamp carving.
The projects in this book are lovely, artistic and not cutesy or cookie cutter similar to everything out there. You will easily be able to begin carving right away with this book alone. Well worth the 15 bucks here on Amazon! I recommend it.

If you need some inspiration, I strongly advise reading this book. Before reading the book, I didn't understand and was very intimdated about carving. After reading Art Stamping Workshop, I am now carving and printmaking!! I also teach this form of art in various schools and art stores.

One of the reasons I advise my students and online members to read this book, is because it is both teachable and progressive. It is an excellent book to study for classes, workshops, and personal study. With each technique, Gloria Page teaches in a way that you are bound to understand, and you are not left in the dark or in confusion in any way.

In an online group that I host -Artists of the Round Table- we read this book from cover to cover, and tried each of the projects. "ALL" of the member LOVED it.....adults, as well as the children!!! Gloria Page was kind enough to make herself available during the workshop to answer any questions, and to give advise and commendation. What an "encouragement" this was to the members studying her book!

Loving author.....AWESOME book. A perfect combination!

Review Date: 2008-06-06
This really is an excellent book. Although scholarly it is not dry and one might even call it exciting at times. It remains the definitive work on the period (most Oxford History books tend to have that distinction) and the latest edition (6th, I believe) contains additions and corrections well worth the bump in price.

The only reason I cannot give this book a full five stars is because in spite of the scholarship, it remains fairly light on ideas and when compared to other Oxford Histories such as "Battle Cry Of Freedom" or "What God Hath Wrought" it cannot hold its own.

Nevertheless, this book is a worthy addition to any historical library and is heartily recommended.

While Spence's "The Search for Modern China" may be currently the most popular survey of modern Chinese history, Hsu's work is indispensable for the student of wants a deep understanding of China and the Chinese. I was fortunate enough to have studied the material covered with Hsu at Santa Barbara, while he was working on the first edition and still using the then only good English language Asian history by Fairbank (+ others) as a text. While I still have my copy of Fairbank's two volumes, which remain useful for Japan and Southeast Asia, it is to Hsu's text I still refer on matters of Chinese history.

This book by Immanuel Hsu used to be my school text 23 years ago! Now in its 6th Edition, I must say is an excellent piece of work. However, there are still certain words which are wrong, for eg, page 100, 2nd Paragraph, "...He was "found" of Adma Schall von Bell, whom he appointed..."
The word should be FOND and not "found"....
I have detected several similar errors in the book.... Otherwise, this book would almost be near Perfect!

Definitive work to the rise of China as a superpower
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2007-02-19
This is the definitive work by Prof. C.Y. Hsu of the University of Californai, Santa Barbara.
It is a highly acclaimed history book which tells the rise of modern China which begins with her occupation by the alien power - the Manchus - from the border of north China and rules the country with an iron grip from 1644 to 1912.

The Manchus were an alien, warlike race which had an eye for China (just like the barbaric Japs in 1935) for a while, and according to Prof. Hsu and his marvellous research, the appropriate time came sooner than expected which altered the future course of China and eventually led it to become a world power a century later.

The Manchus enticed the Ming Dynasty General Wu San Kwei who was then guarding the walls at San Hai Kwan Pass (Mountain and Sea Pass) which effectively blocked the entrance of these warlike aliens to which the weaken Ming Dynasty couldn't well resist. Then internal political turmoil caused the last Ming Emperor to commit suicide and the rise of the rebel Li Zhi Cheng which looted and subsequently occupied Peking. Fatefully, Li abducted the mistress named Chen Yuan Yuan of Gen. Wu which compelled him to open the massive wall-gate and allowed the Manchus to enter Peking to chastise the rebel who was eventually captured and beheaded after many battles.

Then the Manchus began to establish their Manchu or Ch'ing Dynasty from 1644-1912 with ten succeeding emperors and one notorious empress named Tzi Hsi.

China, weakened by internal unrest and revolts and external pressure from the foreign powers - notably Great Britain, France, Imperial Japan, Germany, Italy, Germany, Russia and etc., almost brought the country to total ruin, division and a multiple foreign colony. China was forced to signed many unequeal treaties after she was militarily defeated which included the tranforming of Hong Kong into a British colony in losing two Opium Wars. With the country politically and militarily divided and huge areas curved out by foreign powers, the educated people along with the farmers rose up to try to overthrow the decadent Manchus. Then came the devasting and most barbaric war of conquest by the Imperial "bungsai" troops which climaxed in the so-called Rape of Nanking, whereby some 300,000 innocent and unarmed Chinese civilians were tortured, robbed, raped and summarily executed in cold blood by the contesting samurai swords. Iris Chang told this holocaust in her acclaimed book called THE RAPE OF NANKING (It is also sold by amazon.com too).

Eventually, after many local rebellions against the alien Manchus, Dr. Sun Yat Sen succeeded in overthrowing them and formed the Republic of China and eventually the founding of the People's Republic of China by Mao and Co.

Then in the 1970s, the Chinese people were proud to witness the entry of China into the United Stations and occupied a seat in the U.N. Security Council. China then started diplomatic releations with its once arch-enemy, the United States after the historical state visit of President Nixon. (The Chinese still consider Nixon as their friend today!)

Today, the rise of China as both an economic and military power owes its origin to the resolve of the innovative and determined Chinese people led first by Dr. Sun Yat Sen (Father of the Chinese Revolution) to Deng Xiaoping (Father of the Chinese Economy), which brought China to become a peaceful and superpower power - respected and feared by both friends and foes alike.

Prof. Hsu's thousand page long history book, well-researched and written in an understable language should be in the homes of all English educated Chinese people and those foreigners who are friends of China.

So please go for this highly recommended and worthy history book if you, the reader, has been to China and marvel at its seven thousand years of history, culture, civilization, inventions, battles and peace and rise to become a peaceful superpower of today. Cheers & thanks.

This is a very nice book. I enjoyed the projects and got some good ideas, particarly the simple book and the shadow box which I will definitely be making. For my taste personally there was a bit too much stamping on velvet, material, and jewelry. I would have preferred more paper crafts. But it is "making gifts...". SO I will definitely dig up more books with stamping on paper by Sandra McCall. I also recommend Tim Holtz' An Altered Journey DVD. He makes a cool brayer embossing gift & cool domino book. I love Penny Black stamps, they are my favorite, so I'm always on the lookout for anything using those materials.

Toulouse Sausages: Take bacon, run it through the food processor, add a few spices, stuff it in a casing, price with toothpicks and grill it? Looking at the big picture of Toulouse Sausage on the grill I decide to try it someday. Grilled Bacon Sausages. I bet this would go with char-grilled pineapple with sweet rum glaze. Bacon and rum glazed pineapple. Roasted Garlic Atoli (roasted garlic, mayonnaise from scratch and a bit of salt & pepper)

I have the hardcover book and decided it is worth keeping. The book is worth a second look.

"All around the world people cook over open fire. It's how cooking began and it has stood the test of time."

Eric Treuille and Birgit Erath have created an entire world of globally inspired recipes for the grill. Birgit loves to travel and owns a spice store with over 1,800 culinary flavorings called The Spice Shop. Eric is a favorite author who started cooking in his uncle's boulangerie in France. Together they have created a feast for the eyes and a sense of nostalgia for cooking outdoors.

After going through a number of gas grills, I think I'm going back to charcoal for a while because cooking over charcoal seems to be much more of an art form. The authors give instructions for making a fire and checking the temperature of the coals.

An entire section is dedicated to spices and you might want to look for some smoked paprika or Pomegranate molasses. While most of the recipes use ingredients you may already have in your kitchen, there are some more exotic ideas. Annatto seeds are used in the achiote seasoning and this in turn is used in the Recado Rojo - a honey marinade for pork chops, shrimp or chicken. You are truly creating recipes from scratch and you can make up seasoning mixtures from the spices you already own.

I am not a rubber stamper but I used to own a lot of them. Now that I have read this book, I really wish that I had held on to them! I am inspired by the author's use of a craft tool in a totally unexpected way. It makes me want to rush out and get new rubber stamps and try them to make some great looking one of a kind jewelry! Sharilyn Miller is a highly respected jewelry designer, and her books are always filled with great how-tos and super pictures. Who knew that rubber stamps could be so cool?

I bought this as a book to get me started with some basics. The first section is very detailed on basics other than stamping - some of which came in handy and I used immediately. I like the projects - although some are a little intimidating - such as the polymer clay projects - as I've never used that medium before. A little on the advanced side.

Lots of ideas well supported with clear instructions for the techniques required. I was particularly impressed with how well the techniques were illustrated. This is a real plus for clarifying text.

I love this book!

Well written, easy to understand with lots of great tips on techniques but the best was the fantastic projects. I wanted to make them all at once. It is like a big sister to scrapbooking giving you a chance to use your stamps for other purposes. Thank you Sharilyn Miller

I live in Washington, and spend more time than my husband would like in "Impress", whose owner penned this book.
It is a great book for style and substance..but most of all, starters. The designs are not too complicated for the early - medium crafter, but will require specific tools.

Ms. Perkins has great creativity (or a fabulous design team), which is evident in this book - but the suggestions also utilize several items exclusive to the "Impress" line of stamps and products. This fact wasn't as helpful to the friend I sent it to in Hawaii. She really loved the designs, but was apprehensive about spending so much on products and shipping from the author's web store.

All in all, I do use this book, and add my own sense of personal style to the building blocks she has laid before us in "Stamping with Style". Worth a look. ~*~

I received this book from Amazon just today and was simply thrilled when I browsed through it. I have been rubber stamping for quite sometime now and have wanted to get books with cards that look "professional" (cards that look more like what you buy from stores than those that look like "kid's art"). I find this book to give me the inspiration I need when I want to make a good quality card for someone special. The cards are simple-to-make yet look elegant. A good buy!

I love this book.

I recently started stamping cards and was so happy to have this book as one of the first in my library!! I loved the unique, classy designs - easy and fun to do!! The step by step instructions are great and the color pictures are very helpful. I shop at a local Impress store and love it! Each time I go in I have to control myself - they've got more great ideas in the store!!

All in all, a nice book.

It seems to be a great book for beginners with lots of neat card projects. The book is set out by months of the year and cards you could make that month. The card projects aren't as nice as I was hoping, but they definitely have potential and the instructions are clear and concise. There is even a section at the back of the book that lists stamping resources.

I didn't give it that 5th perfect star because I was hoping the card projects in the book would be nicer and more colourful. I also didn't give it the 5th elusive star because alot of the stamps used in the book are now discontinued and very hard to get a hold of.
