This is a great book for toddlers because so many of them love lift-the-flap books and they also love Sesame Street, so they already know and recognize the characters. Since my son also loves Halloween and candy, these 4 reasons make it his favorite book. It's very cute & not too wordy for babies or toddlers. I highly recommend it.

I got this because of the small size, I carry a couple little books in my bag to keep my 2 and 4 year old entertained while we are out. The story is fun, and they love the 'peek a boo' element that the flaps provide. It's a sturdy enough board book to withstand my bag, but the flaps are the thickness of a good card, not up to the task of getting pulled on by a 2 year old.

This book was given to us as a hand-me-down from my niece. My daughter was about 8 months old and loved it. It is still one of her favorite books. She can't open all of the flaps yet but works very hard at it. My only complaint would be that the flaps aren't the sturdiest and a couple (like the one with Big Bird) are attached with very little cardboard. But for $3.99, I am buying her a brand new copy for her first birthday which, appropriately, is in the month of October!

My second wife (a shrew of a woman if ever there were one) blessed me with three little kippers--and each bore a strong resemblence to a cabbage patch kid (Note: the woman had the largest cranium I've seen prior to Shreck). This encyclopedia was invaluable during the difficult child-naming process and has been a nostalgic reference these passing years since the harlot took the kids (and the pudgy judge-awarded palimony) to Kansas in order to follow some religious kook and raise the bigheads in an "upright" environment. I miss them occasionally, and when I do, I shed my tears with this fine book by my side. Thank you Schiffer Design Books.

This was an awesome book! As an avid collector of Cabbage Patch Kids, it is nice to know that there is some value to my collection. Further, this provided many of my friends and acquaintances with eager cries of "Mine looked like this one!" The research that when into this book is obvious. As one skims over the glossy pages of pictures, they find themselves stopping to read the stories behind the value of "kids." I enjoyed this book thoroughly and often stay up late rereading it.

Although I did enjoy reading the facts about the kids, their orgin, rarities, head mold facts.....and so on.....This book ONLY focused on MIB kids. Even though there are great photos (hundreds of them), several are duplicates and the author consentrated mostly on the beloved #4 head mold. ALOT of the kids talked about were mentioned as *hard to find* and *extreamly hard to find* MIB. I do not believe all head molds and eye/hair color combonations were pictured. I also believe that what one collector views as mint another may not agree upon. For instance, some kids are redressed and out of the box...is that still considered mint in the box?

The first 14 pages are very brief paragraphs of the different headmolds, clothing, eyes and hair colors, boxes and so on. No price guide on any clothing with the exception of animal sleepers, terry sleepers and rompers.

I feel as though in my opinion only, that a Collectors guide for Cabbage Patch kids has alot of potential if more information was given and less of identical photos. This book just didn't give ME the info. that I was so hoping it had.

With that said, this book is a definate read for any collector, but quite pricey.

I loved this book! It's the perfect gift for a grits lover or someone who should be. The biscuit recipe is one of the best I've ever tried. And the Grits Au Gratin is out of this world! Also don't miss the Seven and a Half Layer Bars and Carrot Cake! Grits make these traditional desserts more moist and delicious than ever.

This is no masterpiece.

After trying various recipes from "Gone With The Grits," I can say that I was not just dissapointed, but also annoyed. Beware! Many of the recipes call for certain amounts of time to cook the dish or certain temperatures to cook at. Well you just about have to be a master chef in order to get some of the recipes to turn out correctly. Many times the dishes were too watery, too thick, burnt, undercooked, and so on. As for the quality of the recipes that turn out right, they are usually on the average side, with the very few exceptions being quite tasty (but loaded with fat and cholesterol). For those that go zealous about grits, you will probably find it acceptable. For those who moderately enjoy grits and are looking for recipes that please the mouth, go elsewhere. Besides the few good recipes in "Gone With The Grits," the only other reason to buy this book would be for the humorous cartoons throughout the book.

I used to think that grits were something they force fed you at Waffle houses throughout the south but after trying a few of Miss Pfeifer's recipes I'm a devotee! I especially liked the desserts and the Italian oriented dishes. I found most of the recipes were easy to follow though some like "Aunt Jane's Barvarien Torte" were a bit tricky but the end result was well worth it.

i was reading a book just recently and a part of the book was about the vietnam war. this immidiatly brought me to think about albert french's "patches of fire" which has stayed with me for ever after reading it a few years back. the reason this book is so special to me is that not only is the book so touching and amazing but i had the most unforgettable chance to meet the man himself. i so happened to be working at a restaurant where albert french was being interviewed by an english newspaper. this man was something out of the ordinary and was the kindest to me. we got talking while is was taking their order and i will never forget that moment. alert said he just wanted a simple lunch nothing to fancy, as long as it came with fries. he explained how he had been eating or rather not eating during his time in vietnam and how that had affected him for life. he started telling me a story, which is also in his book, about how his food had bacically been "alive" one day during his servicetime but cause of hunger and no other option had to simply eat it etc and his story could had gone on but i was busy serving other customers. and to cut a long story short, he said he was going to have his book sent to me, so i could sort of hear him out and so it happened.
reading "patches of fire" had an enormos impact on me, and i must admit that i truly cried finishing the book.
i give my highest recommandations for this book.

French gives the reader real insights into what war is like, and what Viet Nam did to the men that fought there. I have struggled to find books about Viet Nam and other wars from the point of view of real soldiers, not generals and journalists. This one does the job terrifically well.

French, as an African American gives us insight into what race meant before, during, and after the war. But the book does much more than that. What is remarkable and compelling for the reader is to see how much the black and white soldier had in common in the foxholes and rice paddies in Viet Nam, and then, as deeply troubled psyches, in the decades of recovery that our soldiers have gone through.

Finally, French's book is a fascinating book about writers and writing. Here is a man that first had to write to heal. In that he discovered his remarkable talents as an unschooled, but brilliant writer.

a must-read for anyone interested in the Vietnam War

Albert French writes not only from the perspective of an American fighting in Vietnam, but also as an African-American, a view which is often neglected. I read this book for a college history course, and never before has an assigned text moved me to the point of tears. This book brings to life a time and place that many of us know little about. Though French obviously cannot, nor does he attempt, to speak for all Vietnam veterans, his story does offer an example of the long term effects of that period of time.

I fell in love with "Billy" and with "Holly" and French continues his exciting work with "Patches of Fire." I was expecting a story similar to his earlier work, and soon realized that this was going to be something different. A man who has found the strength and the means to share not only his horrific experiences of war but also his fellow soldiers. French's raw and at times conflicting narrative grip the reader with the same pain and torment with which he has been living with since the war. French has let us into a world that few can ever imagine. His story has allowed him to share his burdened conscience with his readers. The one that won't let him forget the smiles and the hopes and dreams of all these young men that perished needlessly. "Patches of Fire" is not simply a story of redemption for French, he is also redeeming the memory of his fallen comrades

Although this patch guide does show many patches, I did note that they left out many as well, especially patches of the Army Security Agency (ASA). I'll admit that they showed a couple of minor ASA patches, but not the main one of an eagle claw holding a lightning bolt. Such a disappointment. I spent over eight years in the ASA and am quite surprised at this glaring error.

A great book showing and impressive number of patches but also of tabs. It depicts a large number of variants and some inverted designs for combat veterans (righ shoulder). No classification by era (WWII, Vietnam, etc.) but by army, corps, division and arms (including some battalion patches). The book is principally on Army units with 6 pages on USMC units, and 2 about the Navy.
Rangers tabs and SF flashes are well depicted (no airborne flash). A good part on Army Aviation (8 pages).
A great reference for patches collectors showing a large number of patches I don't see elsewhere.

I run an e-commerce server with a very large Java application that I have developed, however, my knowledge of Windows Server is rather perfunctory, and I really don't want or feel I need extensive knowledge of the O/S. After a trojan trashed my server, I wanted to make sure that I had a better understanding of "best practices" and vulnerabilities, for example "back doors" in the O/S, so I could "lock it down." This book did not provide such an overview, and is written for the Windows system professional. It has this "You want to..." approach, like, "You want to encrypt the framzit block using the whoozit snap-in tool."
I was looking for a cook-book approach: e.g. you are running a web-server, here is how it gets hacked, so do A, B and C to secure the server. I don't think the book dedicated more than one page on using the Windows firewall tool. I guess the authors expected that you already know the basic tools.
In summary, lots of esoteric stuff that may or may not apply to your situation, explained in a way that only someone experienced with the O/S can use without digging much deeper than you may wish.

Mike Danseglio & Robbie Allen's Windows Server 2003 Security Cookbook is for the IT pro and systems administrator concerned with Windows security. Windows 2003 is much more secure than prior versions but you have to know how to set it up properly - and that's where Windows Server 2003 Security Cookbook comes in, offering recipes and formulas sorted by task domain or system service for quick and easy access. Many topics here are more advanced coverages not seen in competing titles, such as auditing and event log usage.

COOKING SECURITY WITH WINDOWS SERVER 2003!!

Review Date: 2006-10-04
Do you use Windows Server 2003 and perform security tasks as one of your primary job functions? If you do, then this book is for you! Authors Mike Danseglio and Robbie Allen, have done an outstanding job of writing a book that covers Windows Server 2003 and some amount of Windows XP security.

Danseglio and Allen, begin by setting the stage for the rest of the book by providing an introduction to Windows Server 2003 security concepts. Then, the authors show you how to secure an initial configuration. Next, they describe many techniques to help protect the computer at the TCP/IP protocol level. Then, the authors discuss how to protect local and network files with strong encryption. Next, they show you how to apply numerous options to your Active Directory forest. The authors continue by describing the use of Group Policy to configure and increase the security of both client and server computers. Then, the authors show you how to use security templates to save and deploy settings. Next, they focus on the tasks necessary to improve security on domain controllers. The authors then show you the vulnerabilities and security recipes you can use to defend against user account attacks such as password guessing or spoofing. Then, they describe how you can restrict rights and permissions to ensure that only desired users can perform specific needs. The authors continue by focusing on securing the grotesquely insecure DHCP component of Windows. Then, they describe how you can prevent several common DNS-based attacks. Next, the authors show you how to secure a file and print server, which is one of the most common uses of Windows Server 2003. The authors then discuss numerous methods that you can use to encrypt and sign network traffic using IPec. Then, they continue by covering the locking down of the much-maligned IIS. Next, the authors explore the remote access technologies of RRAS and IAS in depth, with a particular focus on improving their security. Then, they describe how you can help secure these remote access technologies, which are favorite attack vectors for evildoers. The authors then go into great detail describing how to plan, deploy, and use both PKI and certificates. They continue by showing you how to audit different types of events. Next, show you how to configure and manage event logs. Finally, they focus on and help simplify one of the most over-hyped security issues: patch management.

This most excellent book should not be considered the ultimate reference to Windows security--that's not the intention of the authors. More importantly, their intention is to provide efficient and innovative ways to complete tasks and resolve problems.

12 Lessons on Life I Learned from My Garden : Spiritual Guidance from the Vegetable Patch by Vivian Elisabeth Glyck is one of those books that might bring a joyful tear in your eye. Brilliantly written. She uses real-life metaphores from her beautiful garden. Most of them are about problems I still face in my life. Most likely this woman is wiser than she might realize herself. This is no vague spiritual stuff - this is a real-life reality check, quite tough and tender.

If my friends would read this, we could change our daily lives. Not only because we change our perception of events and therefore we may project other things and events in our lives, but mainly because we actually will change our behaviour.

I started to like the book in 1997, and it is getting stronger and stronger because it is still very practical and applicable. It is as if she's talking to me. It's absolutely lovely.

Guys give it as a present to your wives or girl-friends.

Girls go and get it and read it to your man while lying together in bed.

Go out buy it, read it and it will never ever go away from your life.

Vivian you did something beautiful to the world. What's your next project?

So much wisdom, honesty and insight.

This is book is a quick read with many wonderful thoughts
that make you reflect on your life (and even on your garden).

The author's sharp truths really struck home for me. So often we
just rush through our days trying to force our lives down a
certain path. Ms. Glyck's lessons help us to step back and see
the bigger picture of what's going on in our lives and what
action we can take to help our current circumstances.

You don't have to know anything about gardening to enjoy and
benefit greatly from this beautiful little book.

As a longtime harness racing fan I had high expectations for this book--and I was NOT disappointed.

The history draws you in and the photos keep the pages turning. I would recommend this book to anyone who has, or has ever had, an interest in harness racing--or who simply enjoys beautiful photography.

An unforgetable look at one of America's greatest pastimes.

Easy to love; hard to put down

The history buff in me could spend hours pouring over the details in these fantastic photos! Simply Beautiful! It is a fascinating peek into the history of Harness Racing and the Standardbred breed.
