Great reference book for the Last Independent automaker..

This is an excellent book, which ties together the entire history of the car from the early Jeffery thru Nash, and with the merger of Nash and Hudson, into the last form of independent automaking until it's death in 1987 ( although some '88 models were sold ).
Many technical sections, covering models and options, history and photos, experimental models. While not 100% accurate, there are some bloopers, it is about as close to fully documenting AMC's history as has been done nowhere else. A fine addition to anyone's home library.

The Standard Old Bottle Price Guide
Helpful Votes: 36 out of 38 total.
Review Date: 2000-05-01
Have an old bottle? Want to know what it is worth? Then the Standard Old Bottle Price Guide is a good place to look.

This bottle guide clearly describes the words, letters and numbers embossed on a bottle or the bottle label making identification easy. An example is "Abbott's Bitters: on base: C.W. Abbot & Co., Baltimore on shoulder; machine made; 8"; amber. $30-40."

The Standard Old Bottle Price Guide covers most bottles, including those early bitter bottles that began surfacing when England's George II was on the throne (1727-1760). At the height of the patent medicine phase, drugstores in the United States sold about 365 million bottles of elixirs known as "cures" in a variety of bottles. Most are collectible today.

Though the author died while completing the manuscript for this book, it adequately covers these sought-after glass bottles: poison, soda,, mineral water, gin, ink, and perfume. The book even devotes a few pages to fruit jars.

This guide is a good addition to any bottle collector's library

A great book for beginners. I bought used, and the little baggie of rocks that is supposed to come with the book when it was new, wasn't there any more, which did not surprise me, and I was able to find a lapidary shop to get a handful of pretty rocks to put there. No big problem, but I thought the ad should have noted that the rocks weren't there.

Second Edition, Yr 2000 Of The "Hottest Collectibles" Guide
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2000-11-06
This 496 page guide to the hottest current collectibles contains more than 1,300 black and white large, sharp photos and covers more than 10,000 items in 95 categories with current values !! Topics range from Animation Art, Barbie Dolls, Bobbing Heads, to Fisher-Price, Gambling, G.I. Joe, to Western Americana, Wrestling, and Yo-Yos. Even though the scope is so wide, there is plenty of useful background information provided on the topics. I especially like the "Collecting Tips," "Advisories," and other helpful hints highlighed throughout the book. There are even special "Future Treasures" included where appropriate. This book is a must-have for everyone that scouts antique shops, garage sales and flea markets for collectibles. There's even information about buying and selling collectibles on the internet. Well worth the price.

Toys & Prices 2004 is Informative and Useful
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2004-01-29
This book was acquired just a couple of weeks ago. I look forward to various price guides each year, and this is a definite on my list. What Toys & Prices brings is a very informative and useful tool in the ways of collectible merchandise. From action figures, to board games, to toy cars. This baby has it all. And as a price guide, it is worth the money you pay.

If you are in the collectible field as I am, you know that finding a price for various items can be difficult. This book tries to cover all relavent information. Though not perfect, I find that the listings are thorough and the prices are fair. There are many price guides on the market that try and dictate how a collectible should be selling. They raise values each year, sometimes to the extreme. Toys & Prices and the people at Krause are completely fair and do much research to determine the values of the items they list. They use many sources, from retail sales to online auctions such as Ebay.

So if you need a reliable source to seek a true market value of your collectibles, look no further than Toys & Prices by Karen O'Brien at Krause Publications. You can find many many items inlcuding Viewmaster, Disney, models, Pez, and much more! It's well worth the money.

My choice of 4 out of 5 stars is because I think it should even be more informative. I'm a stickler to include many things, though I know space is always a limitation. I'd rather pay $5 more and get much more info. But I was told by Karen that they will try and rotate some of the categories used year after year. Coloring books, which is rather a newer type of collectible, was removed. But possibly it will be reinserted every 2 or 3 years to keep the collector informed that there is still a market for items such as these, but is not an active one with price increases. Nonetheless, I highly recommend this book.
